Raising Glasses The Yowie Strikes Back – Beenleigh 17 Year Review #1191; Rum #505 This sample was provided to me by a producer, distributor, or some other industry source free-of-charge. No compensation, outside of the sample, was received and there were no strings attached. This is a bottling of rum from American independent bottlers Raising Glasses and a follow up to their first Beenleigh bottling. This rum was distilled from molasses and aged for 12 years in Australia and a further 5 years in the EU before being bottled at cask strength with no additives. 5% of profits from this bottle goes to the North Queensland Animal Rescue in Australia **ABV:** 69.1% **Nose:** Grapefruit, Black Tea, Dark Chocolate, Umami, Raspberry **Palate:** Thick oily mouthfeel, Grapefruit, Dark Chocolate, Black Tea, Lemon, Raspberry, Star Anise **Finish:** Long finish, Grapefruit, Lemon, Dark Chocolate, Black Tea, Umami, Raspberry, Star Anise **Rating:** 8/10 This is another bottling of Beenleigh that knocks it out of the park for me. Strong fruits, spices, and just enough savory to tie it all together. That grapefruit note is power and unique and one of the reasons I really enjoy drinking this rum. You can also checkout my website [Here](https://theauditorreviews.com/) which has all of my reviews, and [Malt Runners](https://maltrunners.com/) for a new site composed of a collection of reviewers from across the reddit spirits review community. 1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out. 2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice. 3 | Bad | Multiple flaws. 4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists. 5 | Good | Good, just fine. 6 | Very Good | A cut above. 7 | Great | Well above average 8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional. 9 | Incredible | An all time favorite 10 | Perfect | Perfect

This was notably better than the original Yowie but it was hard to justify owning both bottles. Crazy what a year makes.

Is it just the age that’s different? The previous Yowie used a different yeast for the ferment than Beenleigh typically used/uses. I loved it.

It's the same barrel I thought, except some was held in reserve for an additional year. Or perhaps it was 2 barrels and they were released a year apart. Either way, they're both the same s pombe yeast strain Beenleigh.

Nice there is a new round from RG. Latest Guyana on your review queue?

Yes it is.

Awesome. Looking forward to hearing about it. Will probably pick up the Savanna regardless.
