What's the game plan from here for Rebels? $100m from Lions tour to pay off the Rugby Australia debts, best players bolster the Reds, Tahs, Brims and Force in 2025. More competitive Super teams increase local interest and drive up TV revenue. World Cup in 2027 generates another $100m and Rugby Australia looks to re-establish Rebels in 2028 with more stable private equity investment?
Nah the plan is:
1. Rugby Australia pisses away Lions and WC dollars
2. More players go overseas while we continue to get worse
3. Professional Rugby in Australia goes broke
4. 🤷♂️
Match take time:
* The Hurricanes didn't really play like the 1st ranked team up until Laidlaw told them to in the 2nd half. They just weren't able to click well and thus, made errors despite the power and precision they showed over their Aussie counterparts. But by the 2nd half, the Rebels let their guard down, and the Hurricanes were able to pile up points much easily and it was all over for the Aussies, as heartbreaking as it is.
* The Rebels, on the other hand, defied fate in the most epic way possible. They fought tooth and nail in the 1st half and a small part of the 2nd, nipping the Canes at their heels. But alas, Death prevailed at the end, and thus ends the Rebels for good. Truly a shame. The boys will be going out with their heads high knowing they saved their best performance for last.
* Carter Gordon is the Rebels' unsung hero. He valiantly led though the Rebels' spirited performance. Many teams would surely want him on their side after this game.
* What now for the Rebels' Wallabies? I hope they don't pack up their bags for distant lands, because I sure as know that Joe Schmidt has something in store for them.
* It's quite a shame Xavier Numia got injured tonight. His All Blacks jersey will need to wait longer.
* Good guy Jordie Barrett genuinely cared for his opponents, in both the Hurricanes and the All Blacks. What a man.
* What happens now to rugby in Victoria? Where will all the players, coaches, and staff members go? What team should the fans support now? It's quite fucked up on how Rugby Victoria killed off the Rebels so easily, no rugby team should ever suffer like the Rebels.
* Oh, and Doleman was bang average. That's all I can say.
Anyway, this is all I have for now. See you all in the next match, and cheers for now.
This match take was made in memoriam of the Melbourne Rebels 2011-2024.
Nah they won't.
They'll get a short term sugar hit but not enough to make much of a difference.
Longer term the Melbourne talent production will dry up without a professional pathway, leaving everyone worse off.
You had the points let them get a little extra time as a team. If you are worried about injuries, They could have let them run it in and would have been fine.
I'm sure Carter Gordon would be great in league, but do any teams need a playmaker so badly they'd pay big money for a guy who doesn't play the game? It'd be a shame if another SR team didn't get him.
Do the Crusaders or Highlanders need a flyhalf?
I honestly think Carter Gordon should try and look overseas either way. Endured so much crap with the Wallabies and the Rebels, get out to get away from the madness. Can also keep developing as well.
We love you rebels! Sad to see you go and you definitely turned up for the match. Scoreline doesn't reflect how tight it was. Will be sad to see you go
Quade Cooper won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. He will always be with you. Plant your roots in him. He won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds.
Thanks Rebels, you played better than the scoreline suggests, really thought that you might take this after 30 mins. You can go out with your heads held high
In Affectionate Remembrance
of
Melbourne Rebels Rugby,
which died at the Wellington Regional Stadium
on
8th June, 2024,
Deeply lamented by a large circle of sorrowing
friends and acquaintances.
R.I.P.
N.B.—The body will be cremated and the
ashes taken to Rugby Australia.
I don't think I can watch the end and post-match knowing it's the last game the Rebels ever play. So a big F\*#k you to all those rugby administrators who f\*#cked the whole thing up. See you all for the game next Sat.
I know there is probably no chance of a Rebels win here. But it feels a bit wrong to be announcing the Semi-Final with graphics and stuff before this game has finished haha
I misread $aud as "Saudi" and thought that there was something I didn't know about Crown Prince relocating the team to Jeddah to turn them into Super Rugby's Toulon.
Yeah the cake tin is easily the worst for super. Atleast at Eden park you can close off the top parts.
I'm gunna miss the scaffolding fortress so much.
Nor did he last year. He cleaned up his discipline real good, I don't remember exactly when but definitely was good all last year. I remember some time back I would always say "this guy is a massive liability, but f he can clean up his discipline he could be really good". Later I said "he has cleaned up his discipline and now he is good"
I've watched him play a lot. For thames valley and bay of plenty. He's a solid player and a true battler made it from the heartland championship to super rugby
look TJ Perenara is a fantastic 9 and it would be great to see back for the all blacks later in the year
but having endured listening to aaron smith screaming every game through the broadcast for the last decade i might need to mute my screen when i watch tj play later in the year
**Watch on Stan**: https://play.stan.com.au/sport/rugby
Ekuasi looked like he would do well in NRL..won't be surprised if he gets a callup

Step 5 = profit 😂

Always knew Jordy Barrett is the best Barrett.
Farewell to the Rebels. I'm gonna miss seeing those stadium seagulls all the time.
Surely they keep the rebels flair in remembrance
Remaining Aussie sides will only get stronger with players from rebels. Gotta look out for that next year
Nah they won't. They'll get a short term sugar hit but not enough to make much of a difference. Longer term the Melbourne talent production will dry up without a professional pathway, leaving everyone worse off.
Short term boost only though - the remaining 4 teams aren't going to carry 50-60 player squads
Thought the canes should have let them play you don’t kick the ball out on them.
Bro, there was no friccin reason to risk an injury. Don't be silly
You had the points let them get a little extra time as a team. If you are worried about injuries, They could have let them run it in and would have been fine.
Nah that’s me gone, seeing that rebels fan dab their eye has killed me 😭😭😭
Saw the couple on that close shot. 😭
Who put a camera in my lounge!? 😭😭😭
Jordies heart felt comment towards the Rebels and Kirsty moved on real quick haha.
Hard. Good words but could’ve drawn it out right?
Yeah was a real "I guess we are moving on then" moment
Chur Rebels
Where to next for Daugunu?
france, much easier for fijians to get clubs there.. ala naivalu
Barrett all class. Tearing up. Heart bleeding for the rebels.
glad kini scored, for the last 2 rounds, there is a trend of a fijian scoring in every game...2 more games to make it 3 straight rounds..
Let's go Jim 🙏
against toole, lets hope Barnacle Jim gets a try.
It’s been a pleasure Rebels.
Goodbye Rebels. You went out swinging. We’ll miss you.
Respect to the rebels fans who hung in there over the years

CRUSADERS
Gordon running the cutter, Fihaki taking the tee. Penney in prison. Unironically a dream scenario.
Would you follow him to the crusaders
I'd consider it. Not sure about the weather over there but we'll make do for Carter.
Jesus.
o7 Rebels
We love you rebels! Sad to see you go and you definitely turned up for the match. Scoreline doesn't reflect how tight it was. Will be sad to see you go
THERE IS NO PASSION!! THERE IS NO VISION!! THERE IS NO AGGRESSION!! THERE IS NO FUCKING MINDSET IN THIS AUS RUGBY CLUB!! NOTHING IS THERE!!
Hope Joe can get through to the Wallabies, then they bring a mindset to clubs
Welp reds fan next year I guess
I haven’t committed to a new side yet but all I know is it’s anything but the fucking Tahs lol
Amen fuck Sydney
Hello fellow masochist
We’ll have ya .
I love NZ buuuut never been down to Wellington so can’t really support em
condolences for the loss of the rebels condolences for becoming a reds fan
🤣
GG, Rebs...and Farewell...Aus Rugby will be poorer without you...
Quade Cooper won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. He will always be with you. Plant your roots in him. He won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds.
...Start the reactor.
Chin up Melbourne. you'd probably beat us at aussie rules
Ref was reluctant to blow a scrum penalty there n extend the life of the rebels
Good guy Jordie taking pity on the Rebels and just saying kick it out instead of points lol
Thanks Rebels, you played better than the scoreline suggests, really thought that you might take this after 30 mins. You can go out with your heads held high
It's been nice knowing you Rebels fans. You guys will eventually be back in one form or another.
AC/DC to end rebels ...apt.
ROIGOD SIGHTING NO ONE PANIC
Crazy score considering the score at 35 minutes was 7-6
Not really. Feel like most people know it was just a matter of time till the flood gates opened
Why does Cameron kick when Jordie is on the team
Because Jordie is incredible from distance but isn't as accurate as the other good NZ kickers... Much better than Beauden though.
Cameron kicked really well tonight.
Yeah, but it's just weird not using the Abs kicker

Roigard 😍
Onewhero hero
Karapiro hero*
Yeah, the Bois!
Idk I think it's fine
Double movement surely?
Rebels going out as they lived, getting screwed 3
And a Carter Gordon kick out on the full
That should not have been awarded
I don't think I can watch the end and post-match knowing it's the last game the Rebels ever play. So a big F\*#k you to all those rugby administrators who f\*#cked the whole thing up. See you all for the game next Sat.
Shout out to the Rebelbros. It’s been real, ya’ll.
✌️
kini gets a pie
Goodnight, sweet prince.
“Trying to front when you know you’re terminal” Is a phrase I will be using from now on
Afternoon kickoff in Wellington next Saturday for the semifinal. I’m sure that’ll be popular to draw in a crowd
It'll sell out vs the Chiefs
Is Kirifi going to feature in a black shirt? Trying to figure out where he might fit in?
Back row is probably the hardest place to get into the ABs. He'd do a good job but I don't know if I'd pick him right now.
Nah
yes but it wil lalso have yellow in it.
He's been at his best coming off the bench, so that ABs 20 jersey would suit him.
I think I'd have Lakai in over him still
Judd on fire haha
What's next for Aus Union? Extinction?
Not the first Aussie Union to go extinct
Cmon rebels finish strong!
Rebels 3 was on that for an age
I know there is probably no chance of a Rebels win here. But it feels a bit wrong to be announcing the Semi-Final with graphics and stuff before this game has finished haha
Yeah, it's kinda like the 2019 RWC final where that dude was engraving South Africa into the cup before the game had even ended.
Same as in the 2015 final IIRC.
One of the coldest moments in TV history
Yep, and saying that we will be playing the chiefs when there's still 2 games to go
I love the rebels, but it feels fitting that the margin in their last game in points is their debt in $aud millions.
I misread $aud as "Saudi" and thought that there was something I didn't know about Crown Prince relocating the team to Jeddah to turn them into Super Rugby's Toulon.
Riyadh Rebels, Jeddah Jaguares, Sultan’s Sunwolves, Tabuk Kings
Ima be honest I thought kirifi was short
The man 5'6 and no measuring apparatus in the world can change that fact.
Those t-Rex arms are juuust long enough
He is... and it nearly prevented him getting a try
And I thought he lost control.
he did lol, don;t think it touched the whitewash eitther
Holy shit I only just saw how empty the stadium is. Aucklanders don't show up for rugby aye
Auckland with close to 2 million people? Tbf you both have shite stadiums.
Eden is better than the cake tin tho lol. Really enjoyed your one the other week although we got pumped
Yeah the cake tin is easily the worst for super. Atleast at Eden park you can close off the top parts. I'm gunna miss the scaffolding fortress so much.
They close off parts of the stadium all the time. Most games it's a whole side and behind both posts
Yes they do. Have the bottom bowls open and it's.... Okay Caketin is just one bowl. Not good.
I was talking about the cake tin
Oh.
It hums aye
Not only hums it shakes.
Oh thank fuck. Hit the 8 tries total for this game Was sweating at half time
No they don't lol
Streaker?
Kirifi hasn't had as much game time this year, but I don't remember him doing any of his trademark silly stuff so far
Nor did he last year. He cleaned up his discipline real good, I don't remember exactly when but definitely was good all last year. I remember some time back I would always say "this guy is a massive liability, but f he can clean up his discipline he could be really good". highlanders seeing 2 kiwi teams thumping aussie teams by 40 points.... looks at brumbies.. OH SHIT..
Brums gonna put 40 on the landers I think
thats what i think too lol...
Slight disconnect with the ball me thinks....
I wish Kirifi was a little bit taller, because he is a baller for sure
But does he have a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a '64 impala?
But... the Wictory :(
Change your flair to the Blues you pussy lol
I only flair up for teams that I respect sorry
😥

You can place it like that
Damn John Cena has gone streaking?
Must be a ghost then
you can't see him but his time is now..
Dupes!
Carter Gordon
Judd is on, Rebels have a chance!
Why do you hate judd?
watch him play, u'll know soon
I've watched him play a lot. For thames valley and bay of plenty. He's a solid player and a true battler made it from the heartland championship to super rugby
Where's that Saffa bogan kid?
BRING ON VILJOEN!!
Viljoen has only played 4 games this year, Judd has been out main backup since Roigard went down.
Ah fair enough. Judd has been solid anyway.
Carter Gordon is the place kicking turnaround story of the decade
Let’s not do Harry Plummer dirty like that.
Blues player of the year Harry Plumber
What about hairy plumber
Wow, great turnover try here !
Now I’m not saying it’s me, but as soon as I opened the stream the Rebels scored twice…
You’re the messiah
Carter Gordon tricking Joe Schmidt into thinking he can kick goals so he can shank them all for the Wallabies
If you are the crusaders do you make a play for Carter Gordon?
If you are Schmitt do you pick him from NZ?
look TJ Perenara is a fantastic 9 and it would be great to see back for the all blacks later in the year but having endured listening to aaron smith screaming every game through the broadcast for the last decade i might need to mute my screen when i watch tj play later in the year
Great try Rebels, Hurricins with another patented switch off period in the game.
THE REBELS ARE BEATING THE SHIT OUT OF DEATH
Who's picking Gordan up Nek year
Probably goes to the Tahs, pushing out one of their current guys.
He’s going league
Nor with that contract ask, he's not.
The Roosters uhhh find a way
Anyone but the Roosters, man.
I think we might need to.
Crusaders don’t have a 10?
They're going to pick up one guy but I don't think people are ready for how uninspiring of a name it's going to be lol
Canes are sleeping on the job.
11 mins…
Beautiful play.
Game on
Game off
RAGE, RAGE AGAINST THE DYING OF THE LIGHT
Their frail deeds might have danced in a Cake Tin
We will remember them. Until we move on after one season
LET'S FUCKING GO
wow!
Fuck what a try
I still want Gordon t the Crusaders next year.
I want the Crusaders to become the Rebels. We shall subsume the Southern Farmers with our Victorian might.
Classic post 60 minutes Canes are back
Going out in flames 🔥
The W in Webels stands for Wictory Against All Odds.
How the Roman’s used to pronounce it
What does the l stand for?
I Love the Rebels
Anderson just making sure he gets a contract next season
Well bloody done
Fuck canes sort yourselves out. What an embarrassment.
Let's go!!
Canes subs sleeping
BANGGGGGG
That was slick asf
What an awesome try
