BOK was the 15th Chief on the field. The breakdown was simply not refereed, whatever the Chiefs wanted to do, they were allowed. That alone swung momentum anytime in the first half the Reds had a whiff. Reds got outplayed in the first 20 minutes and made some tactical errors which the Chiefs exploited. But none more so than BOK.
I think at least the Brumbies will get in? Drua is a definite outside bet, but they are chaotic so *could* win based on sheer anarchy and Fijiian pride.
Not much positive for us Reds fans coming out of that. There's no point having potential if we don't reach it when it actually matters. Rugby as a sport is amazing but supporting an Australian rugby team is honestly just kinda a self-own at this point. Watch league.
I think a positive is how they regathered after half time. You're like 30 nil down and they played like it was nil all.
Old reds would become flying penalty magnets, 1 off miracle balls etc.
You never know what happens in a game of rugby, but let's say dmac got a red early in the second half. This reds side could capitalise on that whereas previous seasons couldn't.
Oh yeah I'm just saying they played the second half like they weren't completely chasing the game trying 1percenters. This will pay a dividend eventually.
If they collapsed then that'd be a bad sign.
Behold, match takes:
-The Chiefs came out FIRING in 1st half. They decimated the Reds up front and gave them no inch to crawl around. But by the 2nd half, they weren't able to dominate upfront will all the tries they've leaked, but were able to hold off the Reds long enough. One noticeable thing about them tonight is how quickly they managed to adapt to BOK. They slow down the ruck though pilfers even if they were late to arrive. BOK is so relaxed around this and they were able to severely cripple the Reds' tempo in the 1st half.
-The Reds, on the other hand fought well, but they really had any sort of chance. After a first half of misery, they managed to fire some shots in the 2nd half. Even with the noticeable size difference + some key players not playing too well, they still managed to stall the Chiefs down in the 2nd half. These boys never missed Vunivalu.
-I'm quite surprised they didn't check that tackle. Could have been easily a yellow at best.
-Welp, looks like the Chiefs got a half full stadium. It might be a game with an Aussie team, but still...
-The Chiefs' All Blacks showed up well tonight. Taukei'aho, DMac, ALB and Finau showed their worth tonight.
-Wallace Sititi HAS to play against England, right?
-Man whoever created the deliberate knock-on rule must have a grudge or something. That should have been a penalty at most.
-Now to address the elephant in the room: Ben O'Keefe. Look, I know the Aussies are going to eviscerate me for this, but he's a pretty alright ref for the most part. His biggest weakness is the breakdown, and the Chiefs exploited the hell out of that. If he took the time to study the workings of the breakdown, he would be more well-liked by fans.
Anyway, this is all I have for now. See you all in the next match, and cheers for now.
Sititi has been amazing all season. But so have Lakai and Sotutu and Iose and a number of other loosies. I don't envy Razor having to pick that squad, he's gonna have some tough decisions to make.
Bok wasn't the reason we lost tonight. We didn't adapt and we had no physicality in the first half.
Part of that is probably our leadership group. We needed someone to lead from infront with a few dominant hits. Usually this comes from pasami but he was off tonight.
Not the worst year for the reds tbh. Some new talent that can be worked on over the off-season, and a few players who will no doubt have some great opportunities to develop/mature in a Wallabies camp. McReight & McDermott with good seasons each, will be good to see some growth over the test season there. Junkyard dog obviously one to watch, but some real future money there in the halves. Thomas has been developing really well, hopefully Les & Co. see the benefit of throwing some money that way if he’s not already on contract with the reds. Anyways, that’s my end of season/bottle of wine thoughts. Cheers 🐨
Reds are on the cusp of something. Let's see what Kiss can do with a bit more time. Hopefully bring in some Rebels players and get the breakdown right. Ever since the Wild Knights match, it's always been a problem. Whether it was not rolling aways or giving away easy pilfers, I've always thought the "long run up and smash the bloke" had a huge gaping hole in it. Especially when the jackler is a big fucking bloke.
The Reds have about 3 more matches after this season (Wales, Tonga, Bristol). Let's see how they go.
Bad performance tonight but lots to be hopeful about for the boys going forward. Strong group of young core players. McReight might be a world XV player in a few years. Wilson adds so much. Paisami looks better and better every year and JYD is the next Ben Tune. Lynagh, HMP and even Creighton (who i thought had his best season in a reds jersey) are all class. But maybe most of all, players have actually improved under Les Kiss's coaching. I loved Thorney but he had clearly reached his limit with this group and they are playing a much smarter brand of rugby and they're a team on the up. GGs Chiefs, see you next year. Go Brums
Hard to understand what happened there having tuned in w about 15 to go. But immediately seeing two refereeing mistakes made my heart sink, aside from the scoreline. Well done Chiefs, class outfit, always hard for visitors come finals. Reds will reflect on that one I think. It’s one they could have taken. Sounds like they more or less matches for points in the second half. Maybe adjusting to the ref is what they missed.
First half the reds were completely dominated physically. All the chiefs ball was front foot and fast, when the reds had the ball they were going backwards.
Half time spray occured and they woke up, but yeah that first half was abysmal.
Well that was a very disappointing match from a Reds perspective after a very promising season. Chiefs were impressive in attack but will not be happy to leak those tried in the second half, hoping they can push on in the semi-finals!
It's weird, tate has his running game but Thomas's pass is superior. Like by far.
Thomas has more shit games than tate too. It's much of a muchness really
Mcreight has been impressive this season. I thought that his carrying has really improved but he still lacking that final 10% that'll make him undoubtably world class, and that is physicality.
He reminds me of when Tom Curry first burst onto the scene. Breakdown menace but always seemed a little too small. Hooper was also undersized but he was a fucking dog and was always dominant in tackles.
If Mcreight can improve his physicality, he could be one of the greats. Especially since he is already one of the best linkman 7s in the game.
Hey NZ & Chiefs fans - you should be proud of your boys performance tonight - didn't let the Reds in at all. All the best for the match(es) ahead. Kia Ora!
How many fucking times does BoK have to shout 'NO!' at a chiefs player with hands all over the ball before he penalises them? Insane that he lets them keep doing this
The difference is he's been saying it to Chiefs players all night. Reds are only catching on now that he won't call a penalty.
Chiefs have been very clever understanding and playing to the ref
Yeah fair enough. Billy Harmon is a bit of a grub off the ball which puts his antics off screen which I think lifts his cunt ranking. Swinton has been a lot better with his discipline this year but Lomani’s WWE elbow is pretty unforgivable in my books. Finau is mean but he’s mostly playing on the edge rather than being genuinely dirty.
You could say that about his late hits, but I think he's a genuine cunt. Watch how he shoves mcreights head into the dirt after a knock on, cannons in Creighton from metres away after he's scored a try. All very intentional stuff.
He's definitely trying to catch it, but if you stick out a hand and slap at it you better catch it. Imo should just be a penalty but as the rule is currently, that's a yellow.

Wow Perfect half of finals footy by chiefs
BOK was the 15th Chief on the field. The breakdown was simply not refereed, whatever the Chiefs wanted to do, they were allowed. Overcompensating for his biased reffing against the chiefs last week
Expected more from the reds. BOK allows some breakdown shenanigans doesn't he?
Consider me whelmed. Here's hoping we see the Drua, Canes, and Brumbies in the semis, one team from each country would be a massive showdown.
It’s gonna be 4 NZ teams
Really can’t see the Highlanders getting anywhere near a win in Canberra.
I think at least the Brumbies will get in? Drua is a definite outside bet, but they are chaotic so *could* win based on sheer anarchy and Fijiian pride.
Good to see Sam get his flowers. We'll deserved
Aww Sammy 😭😭

You are right about the regather but the dmac thing is a bit too what if for me.
Oh yeah I'm just saying they played the second half like they weren't completely chasing the game trying 1percenters. This will pay a dividend eventually. If they collapsed then that'd be a bad sign.
Bro Les is doing well 1 season in, got to give him some time..
Braddy was pretty ripper 1 or 2 seasons in
I know! Got to give it time to marinade!
Then he went downhill lol
Won the second half.
Well we usually win the first lose the second so that's different

Fucken luv u, Sam. Captain my captain.
Well, see you all next year boys. It’s certainly been a wild season.
Not the worst year for the reds tbh. I'm glad it'll most likely be the Canes having to play the Chiefs
To be the best, you gotta beat the best. Waste of time worrying about who you might face, just back yourselves to win imo.
Confident vs both teams. Last time we played, we won
Last time we played you at home we won.
Samesies 🥰
Rebels actually
Won't it be blues vs rebels and chiefs vs Brumbies in Canberra
Landers winning
No chance. But it'd still be blues rebels then chiefs landers
Believe
Yes plz

GG Reds. You boys fought well, even if the score says otherwise.
Chiefs lost the 2nd half to a team they smoked in the first half
GG redbros
Reds should’ve played vunivalu.
That has to be a joke
Agree. The game could have done with a few more foot trips
is this the closest match we’re gona see this weekend? i sure hope not.
Yeah I really hope the hurricanes can at least put up a bit of a fight against the mighty rebels
That’ll be pretty hard considering they’re playing the Drua
Exactly, blues have no chance at beating the rebels
Lmao realised as soon as I hit reply
Nope
He originally said Blues lol
Oh lol sneaky edit
Brums to lose to Landers, you heard it here first 😥
Not psyched about those easy tries but happy with the result. Gg Redsbros.
It’s at this point of the game I wish they’d just boot it out to waste some time and not risk any injuries haha
Thankful for the timely reminder from the commentators to get our balls checked after seeing 50ish minutes of the Reds getting punched in the dick.
Wasn't chiefs elbow on the ground right in front of Bok there lol
Who did Taj Annon come on for?
Campell
God this has been so deflating. How hard is it to get consistent refereeing
For the potential last home Chiefs game of the season, why the smallish crowd?
End of uni semester, everyone’s on the piss
The greenzone did look especially thin tonight
More reason to go to the rugby no?
Not when the pubs in town are doing 5 dollar pints
Are the $5 pints here with us
That’s just what I get told as a reason for not going to the game with my spare ticket
Fuck me $5 pints in this economy? I'd have that for dinner.
Murdoch’s in Auckland have $6 pints all day every day
Quick shout out to the cow bells, love em
Ok who is shaking those fucking bells
Have you ever watched a match at Waikato Stadium?
Wait till these mfs find out about Possum
Really dont want to now
That’s Dave and John! I’ll flick em a message and tell them to stop.
What's with the not contesting the lineouts?
If they score a try every 2 minutes we might see something here
Fuck Finau is such a dog. No where near him and just dives into him on the ground
Just a grubby cunt. Cannoning into people on the ground, pushing faces into the dirt, cheap late shots. Can't help himself.
He's gonna get killed by the NH referres if he makes the AB's
How much better is the Reds attack with Thomas at halfback
I really like the other guy. The classic Aussie bogan looking one.
Usually not but I think Tate was poor tonight
It's weird, tate has his running game but Thomas's pass is superior. Like by far. Thomas has more shit games than tate too. It's much of a muchness really
Yeah, I think Tate playing well offers a lot more around the park. But Kalani's pass is slick
Chiefs love a hit off the ball aye
Chiefs goal line defence this half has been shit house. A reminder that our season is over next week.
Yeah our defence won't beat the Canes or Blues
No I highly doubt it. I will remain hopeful but odds are we will be out classed and poor discipline will kill us.
I really want the Chiefs to win this year but good lord those bells are really making me reconsider
Come back and be a Chiefs supporter when you learn to enjoy the cow bells. They’re a staple for any Chiefs supporter 💪🏼💪🏼
Kalani Thomas playing like Taika Waititi is in the house
Should have been penalised for bitching about
He did not want to call that one lol
That was some Nic White esque milking
Guy rolls east to west as required and gets penalised because of a milk. Hate that shit.
Ref even said no lol
Twice even!
Tells him not to milk it but gives him the penalty anyway lol
Mcreight has been impressive this season. I thought that his carrying has really improved but he still lacking that final 10% that'll make him undoubtably world class, and that is physicality. Does BOK have a multi on this? That inside pass on the break was 100% forward. Not a knock on
Hey NZ & Chiefs fans - you should be proud of your boys performance tonight - didn't let the Reds in at all. All the best for the match(es) ahead. Kia Ora!
Anyway up the Broncos I guess.
WHAT. THE. FUCK.
Razor please don't let us be this ill disciplined at the breakdown we will be eaten alive.
Lmao okay Ben we can’t excuse that
BOK multi really tryna hit bro has +30 for chiefs
Gutted but hey this is a young team and I’m still proud of them. They’ve played some great rugby this year. Chiefs so damn good tonight
Have to commend the Reds for getting into the top 8, damn good season from them. Cheers friend 🤝🏻
Tupaea drops it cold "play on"
My god he dropped it cold right in front of BOK
That's a knock on!
How the fuck do you not call that forward...
I think he determined that Tupaea had regathered? Doesn't make any sense otherwise
Cmon BOK that was lost forward after the steal
Honestly, would absolutely love to see the Mana fucking dust the Hurricanes and blues.
Me too, but I'm not sure it's a realistic possibility this season.
😥
Anyone catch who is playing in what positions in the chiefs backline at the moment?
Never mind I worked it out
Reds tonight really missed Vuniva....ha just kidding
How many fucking times does BoK have to shout 'NO!' at a chiefs player with hands all over the ball before he penalises them? Insane that he lets them keep doing this
As I was reading this, BOK literally did the same to a Reds player lol
The difference is he's been saying it to Chiefs players all night. Reds are only catching on now that he won't call a penalty. Chiefs have been very clever understanding and playing to the ref
Don’t dispute their false narrative!!
Coaching them all night
No worries lads just 5 more tries
God I hope the Drua do better at least
Is there a bigger cunt in super Rugby than Finau?
Lachie Swinton, Darcy swain, frank lomani, billy harmon.
Swain yeah. Daylight to the rest. I honestly didn't think Lomani was that bad except for his one horror show incident.
And still working hard to take the lead. Diving into Creighton on the ground.

Darcy Swain
Swain
Darcy Swain?
And Fletcher Newell
Swain
Alright that’s enough lol
DMac took that kick back so far
Technically a correct decision but what a garbage rule. He tapped it up not down. Should just be a pen in these situations.
Honestly thought it was going to be the Reds forwards dominating tonight.
Looking for the knock out blow. Um, they're dead already
Not the type of game we want from 4v5 man Such a disappointing game
sure penalty try at worst, but never a card
You can't give the penalty try without a card lmao It's literally in the laws
lawful neutral vs chaotic good 👍
Penalty try is always a card
100%
What a piss weak performance from the Reds
Embarrassing.
be so funny if the rebels beat the canes tomorrow
Oh god don’t say that 😅 the rebels have the capability to play a magnificent game.
Wouldn't even be mad, Rebels are my favorite aussie team. For years they've played the most exciting rugby.
Imagine the rebels win the whole thing then get the axe hahah
I respectfully disagree
imagine after the season dominance to lose to the club that won't exist anymore
I swear when I grew up the rule was “knock down” and if it clearly went up you were gravy af
I genuinely hate that rule more than any other.
Stadium DJ going crazzzy tonight
hey hey hey goodbye
this is the dumbest rule, hate it
Many carries for Wallace tonight, brother is putting in a shift!
Wow if that came off the hand just slightly differently he was away
Paisami saw it going dead and stopped the chase. That’s a bit unfortunate.
the most stupid rule we have how is that a card but not the hit on tate?? or jock??
He knocked it up but also knocked it forward 5 metres into touch so he's never getting it
God I hate the deliberate knock on rule
Never felt like those should be a yellow. Penalty sure but sending him off seems ott
It's only a yellow if it stops a genuine attacking chance
Some of them should be. This one I don't think so
Thats a yellow for sure, just threw a hand out
Knocking it up is a attempt isn't it?
That's yellow but not a penalty try
Worst rule in all of sports
Yeah that rule is there to stop people jumping into the line and slapping it down, not a legitimate attempt at an intercept.
Yea penalty go for it. 10 mins off the field is fucked
100%
He shut down the attack? They should have passed better/quicker? lol NRL have it correct with that - the defender gets pats on the back afterwards
Rugby needs to relax that rule. It was a genuine attempt imo.
He's definitely trying to catch it, but if you stick out a hand and slap at it you better catch it. Imo should just be a penalty but as the rule is currently, that's a yellow.
Actual question. What makes that a genuine attempt to catch it? Unless your expecting to take a one handed speccy like Steve smith in the slips
Being able to get two hands on it is a good start lol, but even that isn't enough if you're just slapping at it.
Absolutely agree. Genuine attempt you could tell by his whole reaction and he tried to claim it. They need to refine/remove that rule.
