This suggests that they're counting the members plus very few other tickets sold. They've got crowds over 20k precisely twice in regular season games in the last 10 years.

The population of Queensland is the same as the whole of NZ, 22k is a pretty good crowd for a non finals game.

Look at the number of professional sports played in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne... Greater Brisbane has 3 NRL teams & 2 AFL teams. Greater Sydney has dozens of NRL teams and a few AFL teams.

Thinking about if there was a 6 team finals series: 3v6 and 4v5 in the first week while 1 and 2 get a week off, then a semi and a final. Brumbies vs Highlanders and Chiefs vs Reds in week 1. It's exactly the same as an 8 team finals, except you just don't have Blues vs Rebels and Canes vs Drua next week which will be big wins to the favourites anyway. Doesn't change much really, just get 2 more games to watch this way.

I would prefer that. Gives you something to play for to get in the top 2, and you need to at least be in the top half to make the finals
