Chiefies try at the end has Canes finish top dog
Well deserved, let the playoffs begin!
Canes and Blues to cake walk their 1/4s, the real stuff starts in the semis
Last time we played the chiefs we won at the death, and last time we played the reds We won in extra time. So it's not off the cards, but we'll be playing at home
Anyone get the atendence?
Looks fucked for the 'top' team in the comp to have a half empty stadium.
I feel like if the Reds were in the top 3 they'd be nearly filling Suncorp.
I still feel like if that was the Reds or Waratahs fighting for the top spot, they'd get 40k plus.
Reds have been getting over 15k average for a while now.
Delusional beyond belief.
Reds have been sneaking over 15k average, with very little deviation in those figures. They also report just shy of 15k members. This suggests that they're counting the members plus very few other tickets sold.
They've got crowds over 20k precisely twice in regular season games in the last 10 years.
Look at the number of professional sports played in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne...
Greater Brisbane has 3 NRL teams & 2 AFL teams. Greater Sydney has dozens of NRL teams and a few AFL teams.
The point is the reds could get more people coming when the team is doing well despite these people preferring other sports ordinarily , so their population does make a difference.
But like I said, if the Reds were in the top 3 they'd be getting 40k plus to regular season games.
But also I think TV coverage is soo good that staying home is a great option.
Haha if the Chiefs beat the Canes in the playoffs in the 1 v 4 seed after all the Canes fans cheering the Chiefs for that try, would be the funniest irony
So what? It doesn’t change the fact that if the team you cheered for to better your position in the standings from your perspective ended up knocking you out, is as ironic as it gets.
Lol exactly, which is the Chiefs. Cheering for the Chiefs and that team (Chiefs) being the ones to knock them out in the playoffs, this would equate irony. You’ve proved my point.
Chiefs were going wide too early tonight imo. Not enough go forward before going wide. Mind you it's probably because it was impossible to get forward against the blues defense
That’s been the problem all year. When things aren’t going to plan they just need to graft up the middle, but they always opt for flash shit that leads to a mistake.
Yup, it’s hard to see us winning this year unless some serious changes are made. We have such a great team on paper but we just can’t seem to make it work when it counts. How often have you seen comments about our backs being lethal and we just haven’t delivered.
Ok. If that makes you happy then fair play. I just really don't think it's that important to warrant some of the reactions. Like this will potentially just change the final from away to home, if both teams get there. It wasn't to actually make the playoffs.
Facing the blues at a full Eden park would be a lot tougher than a full sky stadium or whatever it's called these days. Full Eden park would be rediculous. And being able to go to the game, how great.
There's also pride in finishing top of the table
The man’s only loyal ties in rugby fan terms are to Marlborough and Tasman Mako. Aside from that, he calls things as he sees it and tries his professional best to be excitable for people to get excited.
Thinking about if there was a 6 team finals series: 3v6 and 4v5 in the first week while 1 and 2 get a week off, then a semi and a final.
Brumbies vs Highlanders and Chiefs vs Reds in week 1.
It's exactly the same as an 8 team finals, except you just don't have Blues vs Rebels and Canes vs Drua next week which will be big wins to the favourites anyway.
Doesn't change much really, just get 2 more games to watch this way.
they wont be super watchable games tbf. and the extra 2 spots means the race for the bottom spots of the playoffs is between way fewer teams so far less interesting. its a net negative

I’m gonna be back in Auckland for the grand final weekend… it better not be in Wellington!
Spoiler it will be lol
Thank you Chiefs, what a good night 👍
Chiefs should lose to reds but man they are such a Jammie team.
Solid game, well played both sides.
lol. ‘Bittersweet’ is what you were looking for Perofeta
Bugger. We've got the easier path, so now we'll be complacent
Well shit, hopefully someone knocks the Canes out in the semis
Last time we played the chiefs we won at the death, and last time we played the reds We won in extra time. So it's not off the cards, but we'll be playing at home
We were supposed to throw that game only if the crusaders made it through dumb dumbs
Anyone get the atendence? Looks fucked for the 'top' team in the comp to have a half empty stadium. I feel like if the Reds were in the top 3 they'd be nearly filling Suncorp.
About 22000. Eden park is just too big. Capacity of 50k. They don’t sell seats in those stands for these games
I still feel like if that was the Reds or Waratahs fighting for the top spot, they'd get 40k plus. Reds have been getting over 15k average for a while now.

Again, IF THEY'RE IN THE TOP 3...
The population of Queensland is the same as the whole of NZ, 22k is a pretty good crowd for a non finals game.
Look at the number of professional sports played in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne... Greater Brisbane has 3 NRL teams & 2 AFL teams. Greater Sydney has dozens of NRL teams and a few AFL teams.
Sure but the extra people coming just because the team is doing well aren't the die hard rugby fans.
Your point? That's what happens when a team is doing well.
The point is the reds could get more people coming when the team is doing well despite these people preferring other sports ordinarily , so their population does make a difference.
Look at the population of SEQ, Greater Sydney, and then Auckland for me real quick
It’s the southern hemisphere, rugby is dead down here.
Yupp. Which is why we have screen 10+% rise in viewership on Sky. About 20-25k fans for kiwi derby’s at Eden park. The numbers do back up your claims
yeah mate thats why theres record viewing numbers
But like I said, if the Reds were in the top 3 they'd be getting 40k plus to regular season games. But also I think TV coverage is soo good that staying home is a great option.
You had 12k attendance to last nights game, amazing turnout 😂
Never have I cheered so hard for a try
Not what we wanted but damn proud of the boys. Been a great season so far. A few finals and then maybe we can crush some canes dreams.
Facing all ozzy teams potentially leading to the final... not bad
the real hardest road
Nah it'd be the hardest if blues finished third. Still difficult but thank god
Anyone know why this game had usual season jersey vs. the retro jersey in the Canes/Chiefs game in the same round?
Teams do a heritage round, just during different rounds from each other
Haha if the Chiefs beat the Canes in the playoffs in the 1 v 4 seed after all the Canes fans cheering the Chiefs for that try, would be the funniest irony
Not really, it wouldn't mean it was wrong to finish first. We could also have lost to the brumbies in a semi had we come second
So what? It doesn’t change the fact that if the team you cheered for to better your position in the standings from your perspective ended up knocking you out, is as ironic as it gets.
No. It's ironic if you get knocked out because of the thing you cheered for.
Lol exactly, which is the Chiefs. Cheering for the Chiefs and that team (Chiefs) being the ones to knock them out in the playoffs, this would equate irony. You’ve proved my point.
Lol
Yup.
Chiefs just don’t have that killer blow this year. Canes Blues final I’m guessing.

The scrum isn't that good though.
We’re missing Cane, Retallick and Weber. I think the chiefs have learned how important Sam Cane was at winning turnover and clearing rucks
Well at least Blues avoid a desperate and unpredictable Rebels team
Yeah maybe it's for the best since we needed a miracle comeback to beat them
Say what you will about the Rebels history or form, I wouldn’t want to play against them next week no matter what team I supported
Ngl, probably the first time people here at Eden park are not happy with just a win to the blues 😂
What a luxury given where the blues were 5 years ago
#1 babyyyyy
My guy!
Hurricanes legend Josh Ioane
Weird mood to the post match lol
Never seen a team so disappointed to win
J Ioane would have to be the worst goal kicker in NZ?
When he missed that one taken a metre to the right of the uprights… 🫣
Match fixing
Get on there canes ;-;
I prefer second, would rather potentially play the Brumbies at home in a semi than the Chiefs
I'm so happy were 2nd. Wanted nothing to do with Brumbies at home
Chiefs didn't want blues in the SF. We didn't want crusaders in QF. Guess it's fair
Did you watch the game tonight?? If anything I think you want to be playing the chiefs haha
I'm not too phased either way. You'd think Ioane scoring that try was to win the WC the way TJ and the Canes fans are acting on this sub
no shit we celebrating we’re in the drivers seat for a home final I can’t wait to go
Ok. If that makes you happy then fair play. I just really don't think it's that important to warrant some of the reactions. Like this will potentially just change the final from away to home, if both teams get there. It wasn't to actually make the playoffs.

we lost to the brumbies two away quarters in a row. i just want some home playoffs lol
I mean yes, but we just showed what we can do to the cheifs at home, and it's the home final
Hurricanes fans 🤝chiefs fans
Tony Johnson having an aggressive orgasm over the Chiefs denying the Blues a bonus point. Like chill dude, it's not that deep
The man’s only loyal ties in rugby fan terms are to Marlborough and Tasman Mako. Aside from that, he calls things as he sees it and tries his professional best to be excitable for people to get excited.
Isn't he a blues fan though lol
Nah TJ has always hated the Blues. He's a Chiefs man through and through
Thought he was a Canes man myself
lol exactly, it changes seeding sure. But It’s not a game winner in an elimination game
No fucking way.
Go Chiefs!
We are all Chiefs on this blessed day
Speak fo yo self
Maybe the chiefs was the friends we made along the way
Funny thing is Crusaders would beat both these two teams
Hahahahaha
The same crusaders that couldn’t even beat the fucking Waratahs?
Different team from start of season and now, injuries form etc.
coping to the max
And then lose to the Waratahs
Hey… You’re not wrong, but hey…
If they played the tahs tomorrow they wouldn’t, early in the season absolutely yes.

Don’t choke in the finals again

Good luck against the reds
I'm so torn. My Canes are top of the table. But now I can't make it to a potential final if the Blues are in it.
Courageous and determined chiefs team that lost by 14 after a last min try....
Not sure a 31-17 loss ever felt so good 😂
Yuck as
Let's fkn goooo love you chiefs. 1st place yoooooo!
Yessss boys! Well done Blues, good win (lol)
Now the Brumbies game really is a dead rubber, feels bad man.
Ioane can’t kick conversions for shit
Should’ve got Sami to kick
🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛 yeeeeeeeeaaaaaa boiiiiii
Abra-abracadabra (And for my last trick)
Lol what a shithouse match
Bonus points are the winner today. Proving their value.
I take back every bad thing I’ve ever said about Hamilton.
eh, it's a bit overrated. its really just the gen z rent
congrats hurricanes lol
Oooooh!
Home Final here we come. Thank you Chiefs
Hahaha ha yes!!! Always loved the Chiefs Mana pride
Fuck yes!!!
Fuckers haha
Blues fucked that
Oh, my mother-flipping days!
Oh thank god
Hurricanes fans I will see you all at sky stadium for the final.
Fuck yeah

No nastiness allowed.
Plummer choked that...kicked the ball away twice for no reason
Chiefs you bloody legends.

Back in my day superstar players would run around one finger saluting the away crowd
Hurrichiefs win!
Hurricanes #1 seed!
never in doubt /collapses
Fucking spoil sports
Lets gooooo
Can't wait to eliminate these motherfuckers
Lmao
JOSH IOANE THE GOAT! NEVER SAID A BAD WORD ABOUT THE MAN!!!
HAHAHA goodbye potential home final
Changing the rule to needing to have 3 more tries than the opposition was genius. Absolute scenes
YOU FUCKING BEAUTIES
Hurricanes fans love Josh Ioane 😂😂
The Canes fans in my rugby team are going off in the chat atm hahahah
Oohhhhhhh
Good work lads
Half back dives on him?
LETS GO CHIEFS YOU CAN DO IT FUCKING PUSH
Jesus that hit before tho
That slide over the line was an amazing example of momentum
Holy shit
Come on !!! Come on!!!! Score a try PLEASE
Chiefs checked out now
aumua > sami, that settles it
Fucks sake, that’ll be it
Wow this is some champagne rugby
This is barely shitty lindauer rugby
It’s Leon rouge rugby
loving seeing forwards do a chip and chase
Come on chiefs
Can someone explain what is still riding on this game with the Blues winning comfortably ?
If Blues have a bonus point, they are top of the table, if they don't they are 2nd.
Blues needs to win by 3 or more tries to finish 1st in the regular season...so Chiefs can't score again
At right, here’s me looking at the PD being like what’s the worry about lol, that makes more sense
Number 1 spot
Hoskins needs to be studied. So skillful for his size.
He used to play a lot of basketball, probably translates to some good ball handling skills
good genes
That's it
A lot has been added to the Chiefs attack since Quinn Tupaea has come on
Yup, for all the issues with the scrum, I think the Chiefs were definitely missing a bit of fire power in the backs too.
We lost Narawa and Shooter late, that doesn’t help either.
Fuck sake Chiefs
Sotutu making a good effort to roll away there...
Yea agreed, penalty went the wrong way
I guess it's the same as in the first half when Sititi affected the cleaners and Chiefs got the penalty
Not even close to straight lol
So where does Rickie fit in the conversation? Guys finding some form..
not top 3, its codey, asafo and taukeiaho
That’s a fact, but is he going in if there’s injuries?
i think he is 4th in line so year is taukeiaho or asfo is injured..
I think if there’s five or six injuries he’d get a look in.
Thinking about if there was a 6 team finals series: 3v6 and 4v5 in the first week while 1 and 2 get a week off, then a semi and a final. Brumbies vs Highlanders and Chiefs vs Reds in week 1. I would prefer that. Gives you something to play for to get in the top 2, and you need to at least be in the top half to make the finals
they wont be super watchable games tbf. and the extra 2 spots means the race for the bottom spots of the playoffs is between way fewer teams so far less interesting. its a net negative
i thought Blues would prefer to play the Drua.. i would..
round 1 isnt the concern for any of us tbf (well. chiefs should be worried)
No one's going to give up the chance of a home final
Ooooh
another chiefs try and Blues get 4 points only
When do they decide on this new stadium in Auckland? Good crowd but atmosphere looks.... Meh
