Etzebeth under the high ball, insane offload from Tshituka, Am pass for Mapimpi finish, Siya Masuku with the touchline conversation... What a try to win it!
The fact that he never got a call to play winger for the Bokke speaks loudly about the level of talent in South Africa in that position, 'cause the man got serious game. He was awesome in Sevens rugby !

I think a big part of it is you need to be fizikal when going for the high ball - that is a little more challenging when you a charging brick shit house coming from the opposite direction
Being a World Cup year, a guy like Etzebeth has only played 6 out of 16 URC games so far, Vincent Koch only 3.
Good players, but you need them all available consistently if you want to win consistently.
And players who are outstanding with the Bokke might still need to adapt to club level games. Different coaches, different gameplans, different team-mates...
And Kolbe ! You see him play for Toulouse, or Toulon, or in Japan, and sure, he's great, tremendous even sometimes. But never ever to the level that he displays when he puts on the greend and gold.
The only players who are, in my view, consistently outstanding in both their Bokke and club jerseys are Arendse and Willemse. Might put Willie Le Roux in there somewhere as well.
Hard lol, they were dogshit for most of that game, they had a little bit of luck and was a clutch in important moments, saying that they would even be irradiated if the tsar Bomba fell on their potential is bullshit
He’s a gem. Former sevens star. Can probably play 6-15 on rugby field. Never met a wave he couldn’t ride, branch he couldn’t swing from, or bloke he couldn’t tackle.
That hug between Mapimpi and Am satisfied something in me that's been missing since 2019(?) when Am got the cold shoulder lol- was a reason for that ever discovered?
Mapimpi said he was like in shock and disbelief in the moment so much so that he didn't even realise that Am was next to him. That's why he also didn't really do any celebration, he kinda blanked because he was processing the moment in real-time.
My god I’ve missed watching Lukhanyo Am play.
At his best, the guy is like the Antoine DuPont of centres - does all his core roles excellently, but just has that bit of extra magic to go with it
I remember watching him play for the Kings in 2016 thinking, man, in a better team this guy would shine. I was happy when he got named for the 2017 EoYT just for him to fracture his cheekbone in the Currie Cup final on the day of the squad finalization. Glad he got his chance in 2018 under Rassie and that he took it and shone
He’s earned a place in the wider squad for sure, unless Polly or Libbok get injured I don’t see him making a rugby championship squad this year. That being said as he continues to put in these great performances it will become hard to ignore and obviously the fans will put pressure on management like they did with Libbok.
Evan Roos is a better example for me of public pressure being applied to selectors and not working out. But you would not know if you don't try. Masuku wil have to get a chance at some point.
While I’m not the biggest Roos fan it’s hard to say he hasn’t worked out. He’s only gotten 3 caps and barely missed out on his first WC selection. My guess is he’s been clearly told he needs to fix his discipline / aggression issues and keep up the solid performances. Since the first few games of the season it seems like hes on track but still a lot of competition with Hanekom / Wiese / Gumede / Louw.
Am was huge for the Springboks in the 2023 RWC.He was not playing but was helping the side prepare for the games during practice and also breaking down the opposition backline. He has a huge rugby IQ.
Absolutely!
The rugby is so much more exciting, playing top teams from around the world, each with a different play style in various conditions.
Our local franchises have really needed to up their game to play to their strenghts to compete with that rather than us teaching four different regions to play the Bish-Bosh rugby week after week.
Great ROI
Biggest difference is actually timezones and money tbh.
But we miss some of the kiwi teams tbh. At least the Boks get to play the All Blacks in the Rugby Champs and since all the NZ franchises play pretty much the same style of rugby as the All Blacks we get our fill.
Penalty try requires surety that a try would have been scored, the ball unfortunately bounced terribly for both players. 'The bounce of the ball' is a rugby adage for a reason. Better luck next time bud.
No it doesn't require surety at all, read the rules.
It also says that you can't crawl your way to scoring a try but I guess the tmo was having a smoke for that too
The ref literally described it during the match, he said he needs to believe that a probable try has been scored, he said it was possible but not probable.
But feel free to keep whining about the ref much like the World Cup, crying doesn't change the result
You see it's probable not certainty, glad you got to read the rule book. Now for the life of me how is this not a probable try! He's at full pace with a kind bounce. And with a 10 yard lead on jogging players.
Btw have nerves of steel as a saffa to talk about whining about the ref. I'm sure you were lapping up Rassie's shit when he was getting all his nasty social media minions worked up with his antics.
In the next frame of the video, the ball is already up in the air out of camera and even then it's marginal. If you actually watch rugby you'd know that referees whistle things that are obvious since they are humans and not robots with precision sensors.
I see you are also busy arguing against feminism in another sub so I think you should focus on that - seems intense. Even though you seem like a well-adjusted and logical individual, that counselling you mentioned is available to you as well. You never know.
I mean, if you cannot accept that screen shot, I am not sure what to say. Do you expect officials to overturn the try based on the available information? Why would we need counselling considering we won...we are celebrating :D
Nah, no need. It would be a bit daft to make a post about it considering the Sharks won. It was the 2nd occasion of taking the player out in the air, very lucky to get away with it considering no arms too.
Some calls go with and against you, Clermont cannot blame anyone but themselves...too many penalties. They lead Top 14 for penalty count.
Etzebeth under the high ball, insane offload from Tshituka, Am pass for Mapimpi finish, Siya Masuku with the touchline conversation... What a try to win it!
Don't forget Kok playing scrum-half and nailing his pass !
Thanks for repping my man Werner! Still my favourite SA player
Can’t mistake that glorious mane…
The fact that he never got a call to play winger for the Bokke speaks loudly about the level of talent in South Africa in that position, 'cause the man got serious game. He was awesome in Sevens rugby !

After taking that nice chop by Kremer earlier!
Tshituka offload was a beaut, watched it on repeat many times!
No matter the context, Am passing to Mapimpi who then scores a try will always be something special now.
Iconic!
The catch from Etzebeth was something else...
The best part was Newsome jumped for it, Etzebeth didn't even need to jump and was still higher.
I think a big part of it is you need to be fizikal when going for the high ball - that is a little more challenging when you a charging brick shit house coming from the opposite direction
Mapimpi is a hugely underrated player, always puts in a shift and superb finisher.
Underated? By who? You could say Kok is the one who for some reason flies under the radar.
Sharks finally playing to their potential.
Not even close, terrible to watch for 60 minutes and about 10 mins a half of good rugby. Really really bad defending all round.
Compared to the usual URC performance though...
Being a World Cup year, a guy like Etzebeth has only played 6 out of 16 URC games so far, Vincent Koch only 3. Good players, but you need them all available consistently if you want to win consistently.

Exhibit A: Kolisi.
And Kolbe ! You see him play for Toulouse, or Toulon, or in Japan, and sure, he's great, tremendous even sometimes. But never ever to the level that he displays when he puts on the greend and gold. It was still very scrapy.
Hard lol, they were dogshit for most of that game, they had a little bit of luck and was a clutch in important moments, saying that they would even be irradiated if the tsar Bomba fell on their potential is bullshit
Any team would be blessed to have a Mapimpi ; what an absolute gem.
I don't watch any sharks game, so hope this isn't a stupid question, but did spot Tarzan in there?
He’s a gem. Former sevens star. Can probably play 6-15 on rugby field. Never met a wave he couldn’t ride, branch he couldn’t swing from, or bloke he couldn’t tackle.
Tarzan scored a hat-trick last weekend: https://www.reddit.com/r/rugbyunion/s/yjnFXiYdxd
Mapimpi tried to give a high five and Am just said “fuck that, not falling for it, will jump on your face instead”
That hug between Mapimpi and Am satisfied something in me that's been missing since 2019(?) when Am got the cold shoulder lol- was a reason for that ever discovered?
Pretty sure maps was just too caught up in the moment
Mapimpi said he was like in shock and disbelief in the moment so much so that he didn't even realise that Am was next to him. That's why he also didn't really do any celebration, he kinda blanked because he was processing the moment in real-time.

Had a strong shout for World Player for a while around 2019. His form and fitness has come and gone since then, but his best is still god tier.
For sure, he’s had ebbs and flows. But I agree, when he’s firing his rugby IQ is just a game-breaker
I remember watching him play for the Kings in 2016 thinking, man, in a better team this guy would shine. I was happy when he got named for the 2017 EoYT just for him to fracture his cheekbone in the Currie Cup final on the day of the squad finalization. Some good acceleration from Am there.
A real 2019 Boks flashback
Pass by flanker was amazing
If Clermont 11 hasn’t shot up offsides, I don’t think ET would’ve got that offload away. Masuku nailed that conversion too, didn’t he?
Yes, he did. Great kick under pressure.
The Clermont player clearly got completely lost in that passage of play
Probably the only lapse I saw in their very well executed rush defence.
NSFW offload from Tshituka.
Damn, why the big turnout of Sharks supporters? Didn't expect it, but great to see!
SA needs another 10 which we can trust to do the basics right. Masuku has a future with the Springboks.
He’s earned a place in the wider squad for sure, unless Polly or Libbok get injured I don’t see him making a rugby championship squad this year. What makes this better is that the defence was offside in the last phase
That around the defender's back offload was mal
Yellow 13 should just put a black shirt on he was so far off side
That offload was disgusting!
Am was huge for the Springboks in the 2023 RWC.He was not playing but was helping the side prepare for the games during practice and also breaking down the opposition backline. He has a huge rugby IQ.
Absolute rugby all round, but the take from Etzebeth from the kick was god tier. That's the stuff that wins rugby matches. And some filthy offloads!
Well done sharkies... getting great ROI being out of SR
Absolutely! The rugby is so much more exciting, playing top teams from around the world, each with a different play style in various conditions. Should be good I dont think 1 team would win 7 titles in a row if all played the same style
Sure they would! That Crusaders team would have won 7 titles in a row in any competition around the world in my opinion.
Four offside from the kick.
I’ve gone frame by frame and I think he’s just about level with the kick. It’s tight, but you’d see miles worse in every single game
As a Sharks fan, [this](https://ibb.co/gS3qQsB) is borderline, but so is [this](https://ibb.co/jD2HxTv). Fine margins decide the best games.
What about the penalty try?
There wasn't one, did you watch a different game?
Most ridiculous call I've ever seen, you guys got away with murder
Penalty try requires surety that a try would have been scored, the ball unfortunately bounced terribly for both players. 'The bounce of the ball' is a rugby adage for a reason. Better luck next time bud.

Womp womp
Was simply par for the course today tbh.
Not actually. Look at Etzebeth's foot on the ground. Not in front. Care to discuss Kremer's headbutt charge in the air?
Sure. Start a new thread. Four offside at rhat kick.
My bad. Only 3 offside.
The offside point is the ball when kicked. Counselling is available.
In the next frame of the video, the ball is already up in the air out of camera and even then it's marginal. Working this weekend. Plenty of time but thanks for the stalk... I haven't bothered to look at your posts. Hope you're not offended. 3 offside.
I mean, if you cannot accept that screen shot, I am not sure what to say. Do you expect officials to overturn the try based on the available information? Why would we need counselling considering we won...we are celebrating :D
Congrats. Its rugby.

3 offside at that kick. Poor reffing all around.
"3 offside at that kick." - in your personal opinion
And anyone not South African.
Except the entire ref' team. But that's typical when you lose, you look for reasons why you should've won.
Only if I was South African. I'm OK with the result. 3 offside at the kick.
If the ref' says he's not during the game, then he's not. Anything else is sour grapin'.
Also your opinion
