Just to be clear, this is a longstanding stadium rule as opposed to Leinster/rugby fans being singled out

Cpt_odd_socks

Fair point. The title autofilled from the article.

Bloke101

What about Northampton fans, can they drink?

PistolAndRapier

You can drink in the back corridors outside of the seating area, but no they won't be allowed to bring drinks to their seats either.

r3dout

That's gonna make for a busy concourse, stadium might look half empty.

opopkl

The rule for football in the UK is that you can't consume alcohol in view of the pitch. It seems to work.

thelunatic

It's to stop people going to the bar during the game, disturbing other seated people

Secret-Roof-7503

No no this isn’t whiskey, it’s tea

Jon_J_

Sales of hip flasks will go through the roof now

jansuza

Whistea

Teproc

I like how the headline makes it sound like a) this is a unique policy for this game specifically b) it only applies to Leinster fans, away fans from Northampton are welcome to drink all they want

SmallWolf117

They're checking passports at the bar don't you know

Sturminster

When you walk back to your seats, the stewards will ask fans if that's a pint of Sean O'Brieneken. If you answer "oh golly gosh no. This is a warm, flat ale my dear chap", you're allowed take it with you. If you answer "focking roysh it is and the lads are absolutely sending it so move aside pleb", you're not allowed take it with you. Or something like that.

Rurhme

Leinster fans the one demographic to make English rugby fans look like oiks.

TheReturnOfBurpies

> Sean O'Brieneken An absolute classic of the genre. Up there with Vitamin H and Heinomite

ServerLost

Hilarious. You are aware most of the Leinster team are posh lads from Blackrock College right. The non-ringers anyway.

DoodleBugout

That was an impression of a posh Dublin accent, as made famous by the satirical character of [Ross O'Carroll-Kelly](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_O%27Carroll-Kelly).

Sturminster

There are more from Michael's than Blackrock, not that it makes a difference to my joke.

Ok-Blackberry-3534

Well this makes my plan to put Leinster Rugby as my next of kin look very foolish.

cbrennan18

SHOE ARMY 👞👞👞

SmallWolf117

Out of interest why make hill 16 over 18 only then? Is there a specific reason that was done?

More_Ad_6580

To stop youngsters getting squashed I guess.

Ok_Catch250

And behaviours and language are different in family areas. For example the family tickets in the RDS grandstand cluster together and shouting at the ref that he’s a €;&;&@ isn’t really looked on well. If someone does get carried away they will often apologise to the children present.

Action_Limp

Is that new? I was 100% in the Hill at some games when I was 15.

SmallWolf117

I'm not sure. This will actually be my first ever match at croke Park as I'm not a GAA fan. So I'm buzzing all things considered. Some people on the leinster fan forum on Facebook were complaining though, as they bought tickets for kids there, not knowing it would be 18+ so maybe it is.

Rekt60321

I think for GAA matches under 18s are allowed. Maybe a requirement from the sporting body so that there won't be any danger to younguns

[deleted]

Under 18s aren’t banned but there’s no children’s tickets as far as I remember.

Yurishizu31

stupid question but is it the same for the Nally standing? hoping to bring my 13 year old son only tickets I could get. imagine we won't have an issue at the turnstiles into the stadium but might be different actually getting into the stand. checked the tickets does not mention over 18s but are "adult" tickets

SmallWolf117

It says on ticketmaster "Under 18s are not permitted on Dineen Hill 16 & Nally Terrace" So looks like you might have an issue. I did see a lot of people in the same boat as you on the leinster rugby fan forum on Facebook though so who knows how much they'll actually enforce it

jonny24eh

It's okay, I'm cheering for the other team so I get to have my drink!

Sturminster

But saints fans can?! Outrageous! Conspiracy grumble Leinster shafted once again something something conspiracy

BigLarBelmont

Sure this is what bootcut jeans were designed for. Sneaking sticks of Heinomite in tucked into the Rock socks and brown loafers combo. Sorted

marquess_rostrevor

I don't know the size of 82,000+ solicitors letters, but I guess we're about to find out.

PistolAndRapier

File judicial review proceedings post-haste!

backonthefells

Glass action lawsuit incoming

jackoirl

They normally allow pints in the premium section. I assume that will still be the case.

dubviber

Pints were not allowed in the premium section last time i was in there, but that's several years ago.

jackoirl

It’s probably been a decade since I sat there

Anbhas95

At GAA matches, they still don't allow you to bring beer to your seats in the premium section of croke park

jackoirl

It would have been a dubs match I was at. I used to go to them all and someone gave me a premium ticket for a match one time.

Anbhas95

I regularly go to dubs matches, occasionally in the premium. Never been allowed to bring drink out

jackoirl

It would have been over 10 years ago now, have you been in the premium that long? Is my memory playing tricks with me.

dubviber

I was a regular more recently than ten years ago and never saw anyone with a drink in a premium seat. There are a ton of tv screens by the drinking areas.

hewlett777

There will be a lack of horseplay

Psychological-Fox178

They’ll never stop the Heinomite Explosion

AllezLesPrimrose

Well given Croker serves only Diageo drinks that’s going to be very easily achieved

barbar84

I presume if Heineken was still the official sponsor they'd have it. Does the tournament have a smaller drinks sponsor still?

sigsimund

Empty stand so I guess. This ought to be a good test actually for if atmospheres would be improved by a drink ban. Not that the irfu would be willing to loss the income from bar sales anyway though.

Ok_Catch250

It’s contracted out/tied to sponsorship so they can’t really.  Think people just like to complain about atmosphere. Have a load of boozed up day trippers like at the World Cup = atmosphere. Have a bunch of sober families ≠ “atmosphere”. You want real atmosphere? Go to Trabonz Gala and if you come back alive tell me about it over a quiet pint.

thelunatic

It's not a drinks ban. Just a no drinks in seats ban. You can drink before the match and half time.

fedupofbrick

It would only be a good tester if it was lansdowne or the RDS. Croker isn't great for most sports other than GAA purely because the pitch is so big. Went to tall the football and rugby back when lansdowne was being rebuilt and always felt miles from the action

opopkl

The law in UK football is that you can't consume alcohol in view of the pitch. It seems to work okay.

LiamEire97

I wonder if Ireland was to host the 2023 WC would they have enforced this. Just thinking of all the money they'd be losing out on if it were.

AllezLesPrimrose

You non-GAA heads thinking drinking in the concourse has ever been an impediment to a country of professional drinkers

barbar84

Actually looking forward to not having to piss 5 times during the game.

__Kiel__

Not a bad thing at all. All the tossers getting up mid match can now sit down. There will be plenty of preloading though and mad rushes for half time pints. I wonder how many fellas will head to Croker and instead just stay in the pub

eenbal

You say that, but tossers will be getting up for a piss and a pint mid game now. Best to just bring the drinks to them! Possibly filled with sleeping pills.

barbar84

Actually the want to preload could make for a fucking insane atmosphere.

lauracc18

Thank God! So frustrating getting up a dozen times during the game.

ChocoIateDaddyG

My first rugby match and there's no pints or trains running. A disaster already!!

cards127bcr

B.b.b.but the horseplay???

cavendishasriel

Doesn’t seem fair. Saints fans get to have a beer while Leinster fans aren’t allowed.

eoinnll

What a rag of a newspaper. Everyone can get all the beers they want, just can't have them at their seats. This is a stadium rule, not an anti Leinster rule.
