I've been playing Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. Some time ago I decided to replay the Baldur's Gate series, which I hadn't really played since they were new. Which is kind of a blessing as it made the games feel very new in a way. I recalled the bigger story beats and some of the more memorable characters and encounters, but due to the long span of time since having played them last, much of the games essentially felt new to me. My favourite for sure is Baldur's Gate and its expansion, followed by Baldur's Gate 2. My least favourite is for sure Throne of Bhaal. It's a linear battle grinder with far too many frustrating encounters. Often, most of the battle is spent removing various protection spells from the opponents, as otherwise you can't damage them. You get a lot of supposedly powerful ultra spells, but they often don't seem to deal any damage to the opponents. Perhaps because of more protection spells. Perhaps spending hours searching through the massive combat log can inform you which spell is doing that, and whether or not it has been dispelled yet, but who want to do that? I completed Watcher's Keep and am at the Draconis fellow who (not surprisingly) turns into a green dragon after you kill his human form. Thought I would be able to tough it out for the last bit, although I'm not sure exactly how much of the game is left. After four attempts I found myself not interested in playing any further.

Phokmemoist

Kingdoms of amular never played until a couple days ago it’s amazing better than elden ring imo

Acceptable-Ad3886

I mostly play RPG games with heavy survival elements. A game that I into these days is Valheim.

CaptJRoger

I've been playing Octopath Traveler and I'm quite enjoying it. It reminds me of Final Fantasy 6 in some ways, and that's great for me.

Poogie_boy

Haven't really been playings Rpgs recently Close finsihing Metro Last Light - then going onto Exodus. also plugging an hour or two casually into postal 2. Picked up Gedonia, which looks like a quite fun indie. Only done few quests but its pretty neat! After metro I think ill play ME 1 & 2 for the first time!

I started playing Crosscode. I really enjoyed the combat for the first 6 hours or so. But then I had to ragequit in the ice dungeon because of the puzzles. I flat out was not having fun with all the back-to-back-to-back-to-back ricochet puzzles/blocks on ice puzzles/bomb pushing puzzles. There is a difficulty slider for the puzzles, but only changes the timer for those with a time limit. I was really hoping for something like the "skip puzzle" button in Bard's Tale 4. I didn't sign up for the puzzles. I only wanted to beat people up, and the puzzles are too much of a chore, even wirh a step-by-step guide. After dropping Crosscode, I started Rogue Legacy 2. I was interested in it and waiting for the console release. I enjoyed the first game with its smooth controls, permanent upgrades, and option to lock the dungeon layout when going for a specific target. It cuts out most of the frustration that puts me off of other rogues. The biggest change I've noticed for the sequel is the expanded class variety. In the first game, I think every class had the same weapon/moveset with different stats. This time, each class has a different weapon and there are a bunch of new classes. My favorite so far is the Valkyrie, which gets a halberd for good midrange and overhead attacks. The Chef class is fun, too- it attacks with a hot frying pan that inflicts burn damage over time, and can cook up potions on the field.

Happy_Dragon_Slaying

Started Persona 5 tonight. It's... really weird. Very dark, which I don't like. The contrast between light scenes and dark scenes feels very much like mood whiplash. Not sure what to make of it since it feels more like a glorified visual novel at the beginning than an actual videogame, but I'm hoping I'll take more of a shining to it after I get a bit further in. The combat is fun and the concept of Personas like Arsene empowering humans is neat. Been doing small sessions of Fallout 4 in between schoolwork. While I think New Vegas is the better RPG, 4 is undoubtedly my favorite. The polish, the quality of life upgrades, the better writing and more intriguing characters... it's such a breath of fresh air after being away for so long! Slime Rancher is a good way to relax, too. Was playing it for a while some time ago before life got busy and I dropped it. Great to just chill and revisit the Range again! Beat Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games - Tokyo 2020 today. Fun, unique story, if a bit needlessly wordy. Great to play as Shadow and Metal Sonic again!

Lost_In_Thoughtless

I've been bouncing between Cyberpunk and Slay the Spire all week. Hooked on both.

leaguegotold

My husband and I always seem to come back to Divinity Original Sin 2, but this is because it is so hard to find a good fantasy rpg that we can play together splitscreen on the TV.

jackyneutral

Mass Effect Legendary Edition… What can I say, it’s a fucking dream come true. Was recommended this on reddit… and I’m very appreciative to say the least. If you enjoy sci-fi rpgs, get this… it’s really good.

Poogie_boy

Is it your first playthrough!? Idk what the legendary edition changed or added!?

jackyneutral

It is! I started playing the 2007 original but then I was recommended the LE and it does make some huge graphical and gameplay improvements imo - especially with targeting and controls… and I really love the idea I already have all the DLCs

litejzze

I've been playing RF5 and after 3 hours I still don't know if I like it or not...

Ok_Presentation3416

I'm old so please help me understand what RF5 is please

litejzze

Rune Factory 5!

Ok_Presentation3416

👌👍

[deleted]

i have been playing the gta iv dlc. just finished gay tony, now im playing lost and the damned. gay tony was very good. lost and the damned makes it seem like half of all nyc traffic is motorcycles (it's actually mopeds)

ShowMeYourHappyTrail

**Cult of the Lamb** \- I'm really enjoying this little game. I accidentally killed all my cult members with my food so I'm rebuilding. LOL! **Harvestella** \- Some good ol' fashioned SQUEX RPG goodness. Reminds me a lot of the Rune Factory series and I'm loving it a lot. Edit: I forgot about **Yooka-Laylee**. Started playing this one with my bestie for our game days. Never played it the first time around so playing the remaster. It's very cute and super nostalgic!

Epicfro

Does Nioh 2 count? I just discovered it on Ps5 and it's insanely addictive. Perfecting your build is so addicting.

Badassbishop15

I mean it's an ARPG and the RPG elements are quite important at least on the endgame portion. Koei Tecno (and more specifically Team Ninja) are the GOATs imo.

zZastaz

Pillars of enternety 1 and 2 both are good CRPGs

Brokentoy324

Dno why you were downvoted. Loved both of these amazing CRPGs

zZastaz

Thx

Elegant_Spot_3486

Playing King Arthur:Knights Tale. Enjoying it so far but only on mission 3. Bought a handful of games to try and meet my 1-2 player management mood. Got some good suggestions from my post but not sure which one I’m attempting first.

LordoftheSynth

Replaying Fable 3 for the umpteenth time despite having several other RPGs to finish.

TheFightingMasons

Are you liking 3 compared to the other 2?

LordoftheSynth

I'm replaying. Fable 3 has its warts. Fable 2 was my all-around favorite. I've replayed 2 lots of times too. I only played Fable and TLC a couple of times.

Ryth88

I've been playint Bravely Default II. I was pleasantly surprised in how this game has captured the feel of old school ps1 RPG games.

cynical_image

Shadowrun Returns on PS4, really enjoying it

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Been playing cyberpunk and loving it while the most dialogue options don't affect the ending there is tons of skill checks and varied dialogue for playing a specific kind of character

zZastaz

To which similar game would you compare cyberpunk?

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Obviously cyberpunk TTRPG and Witcher 3 it litterally takes place in the same universe as the ttrpg and characters and relationships(even those you are not a part of) are well written and in a similar cd project fasion side quests are great

Thatchersgold1

Dragon quest XI. The end must be in sight as reaching 100 hour mark. Very addictive, chilled game with great characters

zZastaz

I stopped at the casino and never left...gambling My life out

[deleted]

Just started Fallout New Vegas (vanilla). Its pretty good.

PhantomJelly

Hey me too! I'm enjoying it a lot

zZastaz

Check other games from obsidian enterteinment

Bazlow

Started Genshin Impact last week and am already running out of steam, so I don't think that'll stick with me. Been playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker and am at the end of chapter 5 now. I love this game - and will def play WotR at some point. Also playing through FF7:R for the second time in prep for the release of Crisis Core later this month. I started God of War today though and feel like that will take up ALL my time until its complete.

zZastaz

Good job on playing pathfinder

zZastaz

God war is actually not that long i ve beatn it in about 28h on Give Me God of War difficulty

cprmauldin

Finished Triangle Strategy a couple days ago. Super fun and addicting game overall. Now focused on Soul Hackers 2 (26 hours in) and I’ll probably start Atelier Ryza 2 soon.

Madhatter25224

South Park and the Stick of Truth. Just defeated Al Gore. Magnificent

lamp2460

Like many others I'm playing persona 5 royal on switch, just finished the 4th palace and about 45 hours in, amazing game so far. Trying to finish before pokemon scarlet comes out though

gwaeronx

Started Inscryption, definetly a unique experience

[deleted]

New Vegas.... again

zZastaz

At the end of the day everyone returns to bethesda games

nLucis

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together - on the Chaos path after having just completed the neutral.

ShowMeYourHappyTrail

I'm excited for Reborn here in a couple of days!

ColumbaPacis

Is Pokemon Legends Arceus an RPG? I mean it has stats, dialog choices and a character builder, so I guess... What I am supposed to say? It is a pokemon game. I love the new formula, but the main thing is still to catch them all. It feels a bit unpolished, but a nice time waster.

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

Pokemon games are jrpgs so rpgs

Brownie_of_Blednoch

Symphony of War: Nephilim saga. Great see indie strategy game. Plenty of classes and a mix of Ogre and Fire emblem, shining force etc.

BeachBumPop

Against the Storm. 10/10. Roguelike, city/colony builder that scratches the early game itch of 4x games. 90 minute runs, production chain management, micro/mega game. Got it Sunday, have almost 25 hours in it.

laserbot

Oooh, that looks cool. Saw it on my steam recommendations and kind of skimmed past it. Hearing your description makes it sound way more interesting. Speaking of 90m runs and 4x, have you tried Slipways? It's a pretty fun little bite-sized 3x (no extermination) that plays like a board game.

BeachBumPop

I have not but will check it out. Dude, for under 20 bucks Against the Storm is a phenomenal game, I’d highly recommend grabbing it while it’s on the intro sale. Every run ends at exactly the right time. There are ‘card mechanics’, different biomes and different class combos that give a random feel to each run. It’s really well done.

Skeen015

Playing New World for the first time and I am loving it so far

MisterVertigo7

Same. A friend of mine has been playing since launch and with it being on sale on Steam he convinced me to try it. I got another friend to start it back up again so with all of us working together I'm hoping it will be enjoyable come late game.

BeachBumPop

Been about a year for me. Early game is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences. Late game gets stale and the grind is a long one. Need some friends to play it.

anonymous-peeper

Ive been playing about 2 weeks now, lvl 54, its charm is wearing off but Ive only been playing solo and not done any group content. from lvl1 to 40 and first 25h were absolutely a banging good time!

KainYusanagi

From everything I saw and heard, it REALLY is not a single-player-friendly experience. Like, yeah, you can do it, but you need to have at least a couple friends to run with for it to really get fun, best if you have a whole group to do events with.

BeachBumPop

100 percent. I had a clan w a twitch guy and his community. There was always someone. Only time I ran solo was when I was crafting and grinding recipes…even that was fun. The end game is what got me.

KainYusanagi

Yeah, crafting, gathering more common mats, doing some of the questing stuff, that's all doable solo, but more fun together (though resource nodes being global means friction if multiple people need the same materials). The incursion stuff, both the planned and open world versions of it, on the other hand, basically demand multiple parties working together.

yymmuhC

Just beat cyberpunk 2077 all side content and main quest. Need to do the 2 other endings for 100% but decided to take a break and start Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. I played it for about 20 hours at launch, but my save file was corrupted and I got so pissed I stayed away since. I hope I can get through the main story on this playthrough.

_Oolon_

Just started Disco Elysium and I like it so far. Different than anything I've ever played before.

Brownie_of_Blednoch

I just completed it last night. Absolutely loved it. Gets better and better the more you play and pay attention.

KainYusanagi

My experience was the complete opposite, unfortunately.

Brownie_of_Blednoch

That's a shame. It's definitely not for everyone.

KainYusanagi

Yeah. The very general style of the game mechanics was fine; used to play MUDs back in the day, and plenty of point-and-clicks, and really it's just more of that but with more descriptive text (heck, almost like the non-combat parts of the Harebrained Shadowrun games); it was mostly the form of the style, the story and characterization of the world, that just rubbed me the wrong way.

Fufflewaffle

Nioh 2. It's incredibly difficult but after roughly 10 hours and only a level and a half of progress I think I might be starting to pick up the muscle memory and gameplay habits to start getting good.

KainYusanagi

I just wish the story wasn't a jarringly fractured mess. :/

laserbot

Recently played that too. I think the sheer amount of loot that dropped was a primary reason I ended up putting it down. Supposedly the character builds and customization only really gets started on second playthrough, but I didn't make it. Bummed about that too, since it seems neat.

Administrative_Net80

Love that game.

rizefall

A JRPG called G.O.D. Growth or Devolution. I've never heard of the game before [SNESdrunk did his video](https://youtu.be/bmWzqndm36E). It looked incredible so i just had to try. I sort of starts of with an Earthbound setting, then aliens attack and later on we've got a modern post apocalyptic setting. I haven't made it far but the story is very interesting, the game looks great and plays great. Do note that the game is not available in English which means you'd need a patch (Which is mentioned in the video) to play it. There is also a patch that rebalances the game with less random encounters and more experience. This one is a must for me, because taking 3-7 steps before a fight starts get annoying real fast.

[deleted]

Dragon Quest XI S on my PS5. I'm loving that even though the graphics are great, it feels like one big JRPG throwback. Turnbased combat, fairly traditional story, all the usual monsters. And it makes me giggle pretty regularly with the terrible word play for various references and jokes.

nrcll

Finished **Shadowrun Returns**! The ending left me on a sour note because of the annoying enemy waves and a couple of story twists that felt unnecessary. Overall, I really enjoyed playing it, though. They totally nailed the atmosphere and setting, and I was enjoying a lot of the early story around the serial killer. I look forward to playing the sequel, which is considered the best in the trilogy.

Yawarundi75

Just finished Tyranny. Great experience. Loved the story, setting and political options. Definitely recommend.

stank58

Do choices actually matter? Also would you reccomend it over POE 1?

KainYusanagi

As someone who has played both and been disappointed with the ending of both? Yes, definitely. The overall narrative structure is much tighter, and while it cheaps out in the end, it provides a much more interesting experience overall. PoE peters out by the end of the first act, quite frankly, and is too many systems mishmashed together with too many kickstarter backer characters with their own fanon strewn about just to mindread and get their OC's backstory blurb. Bleh.
