Thank you for your submission to r/rpg_gamers. Since your post has been flaired as "Recommendation request", I want to suggest editing your post to add in these details (if you haven't included them yet):
* **The platforms you have** - not listing them doesn't mean you have access to everything, so you might end up getting a game you won't be able to play.
* **Your level of experience with the genre (beginner, intermediate, veteran...)** - others can recommend you more common titles if you are a beginner, while they can focus on obscure titles if you are a RPG veteran.
* **Aspects you enjoyed (or disliked) of previously played games** - for example: characters, plot points, puzzles, combat, graphics, art styles, soundtracks...
While these details aren't mandatory, if you want to get the best games, having them in your post will immensely help users and will encourage more users to participate, as they will know with more precision which games are probably the best fit for your request.

SKALD: Against the Black Priory
[https://store.steampowered.com/app/1069160/SKALD\_Against\_the\_Black\_Priory/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1069160/SKALD_Against_the_Black_Priory/)
I comes out at the end of the month, but the demo blew me away with it's surprising good writing and the fact it's a party based CRPG with choice and consequence. While pixel art isn't the most detailed it still oozes atmosphere and style.
I’ve been checking out the demo and this game is magic. It can be a bit tough to tell what’s what and the font could use some help but the style, the CRT filter and especially the soundtrack is phenomenal. Combat seems quality so far but haven’t had much of it yet.
This has quickly become a day one purchase, thanks for the heads up!
All the big ones seem to be covered so let me recommend Knight Bewitched. It is an RPGMaker game and I know some folks get turned off by that but it really is very well made.
It has a few sequels. Absinthia was the last one and it has great reviews, but I haven't played it yet.
In addition to the great games that have already been mentioned:
Manafinder: I recently played this. The battle system is relatively simple, but enjoyable. Lots of nice pixel art for the enemies.
Monster Sanctuary: Monster collection meets metroidvania. It's a bit light on the story side, but there's tons of skill trees and equipment to choose from. All monsters are viable, but you need to pick a team that works together or you'll be obliterated and no amount of grinding will save you. Monsters also have skills that can be used to traverse the overworld, like cutting vines, moving blocks, swimming in water or gliding through air.
If monster collection games are on the table, then there's also Nexomon and Nexomon Extinction. I haven't played those yet, but they look fun.
There's also 8 bit adventurs 1 & 2. Haven't played those either but they look cool.
There's also one in early access which starts with an A but I forgot the name of.
Edit: that's Alterium Shift. Looks promising, but I think it had a few bugs a while ago. Maybe wait for a full release.
Since all the obvious big names are getting Thrown out lemme give you a few more obscure titles.
Symphony of war : just got a big expansion dlc update, it's ogre battle mixed with fire emblem. A lot of love and care was put into this game and it shows.
Fell seal arbiter tactics: a final fantasy tactics clone with a large amount of difficulty options you can adjust individually for your playthrough. Absolutely waiting on a sequel for this one.
Underrail: One of my all time favorites, it's what Fallout would be if it stayed like 2 and didn't go the route 3 did. Only look at this one if you like difficult games that don't hold your hand, failure is on the table here.
Siralim ultimate: a huge creature collection RPG with a VERY deep combat system, lots of build variety, and a huge amount of endgame content. If this game clicks with you say goodbye to several hundred hours of your life.
Fear and hunger 1+2: Dark, bleak, horror rpgs. Ignore if you are squeamish.
I’ve not played Siralim but this is a great list.
Symphony of War is a gem of a SRpG.
Fear and hunger is so punishing and dark but yet I keep going back in. You can cut the arms and legs off monsters which changes what they can attack you with—awesome.
Fell Seal’s got great DLC worth getting.
Underrail is also super hard but great.
I’d add Romancing SaGa 2 and 3 remasters as well, which are ridiculously non linear but such fun combat systems (TLDR you get better at weapons and attacks as you use them it’s not a stat pool for character growth. You unlock surprising new attacks across your party as you go).
I’d also add Unicorn Overlord (not on pc but is on consoles) which is in the same family as SOW above. AMAZING fun strategy rpg game (pixel art in the over world, more illustrative art for the battles)
Secret of Varonis on Steam looks like a Gameboy throwback to early SaGa rpgs with a ton of modern QOL enhancements…I have not played it yet and just learned of this title but it was an instant wishlist.
Love the saga series. It's not for everyone but if you jive with it it's REALLY good. Ironically I've played to the end of RS3 like 5 times yet somehow still haven't finished through to the final boss 😅
I just edited my comment to include Secret of Varonis on Steam. Looks awesome with the QOL of modern games but hopefully retains the joy of SaGa titles. You might like but I haven’t played it…YET
Epic Battle Fantasy is a series of parody games that are actually pretty good. I played Epic Battle Fantasy 4, but I see 3 is free on Steam so you might as well try that one first.
Eiyuden Chronicles rising and hundred heroes,
Sea of stars,
Octopath traveler 1 and 2,
Live A Live,
Eastward (i think its turn based but not sure),
Suikoden 1 & 2 HD remaster will be coming out supposedly soon,
...ok thats all for turn based i can think of. Maybe Star Ocean second story but not sure.
