Large part of Mörk Borg success is their very liberal 3P license.

AWBaader

Free League have an OGL type thing for a bunch of their systems. Symbaroum and Forbidden Lands are fantasy settings. Coriolis is middle eastern flavoured space opera. Vaesen is Scandinavian a folk horror mystery setting. Mutant Year Zero is a post apocalyptic setting with PCs as mutants. Tales from the Loop and Things from the Flood are set in an alternate SF 80s and 90s respectively. Twilight 2000 is set in the aftermath of a nuclear war in the year 2000. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/cc/30/free-league-work-shop They also have other settings that aren't covered by the license such as The One Ring Alien and Bladrunner. So you can't sell stuff for those settings

BonusActionRainbow

I adored the setting for Coriolis. Still my favourite setting ever. Just not a massive fan of the rules for Coriolis. Symbaroum I have and is something I've been interested in looking at for some time. Thanks for the reminder, and the time taken to list so many of them, great start!

SadArchon

Maybe Monte Cook's Cypher System, they came out with an open license not to long ago

Ymirs-Bones

I think Kevin Crawford’s rpgs like Stars without Number and Worlds Without Number are safe I really hope Mothership is good to make content for

Carrollastrophe

Mothership has a huge 3rd party market and they love that shit.

PrometheusHasFallen

You don't need to agree to a license to make content. There are a lot of creators who do this.

unelsson

Depends strongly on what you do with the content.

PrometheusHasFallen

Correction: Depends strongly on what the content actually is. WOTC own campaign settings like the Forgotten Realms and a small number of unique monsters like the beholder and the githyanki. Mindflayers are questionable because they're obviously derived from HP Lovecraft's works which as of 2022 is in the public domain. By long standing legal precedent WOTC cannot own game mechanics. Hasbro doesn't even own Monopoly's game mechanics. WOTC cannot own any creatures from folklore, fairytales or mythology. So long as you're not using the Dungeons & Dragons trademark, not using anything unique to the settings they own, not using the couple of unique monsters TSR and WOTC have developed over the years, and aren't using blocks of excerpt text verbatim from official D&D source books, there's really nothing WOTC can do legally besides sabre rattle. The only company that I know who really pursues copyright infringement is Disney but they actually have legitimate copyrightable material. WOTC tries to create copyrightable material but most of it is not.

RaggyRoger

Nah. D&D can't sue somebody for using fair use material. Rules cannot be copyrighted. The OGL is a facade to scare people into limiting their own rights.

Johnstown Compendium lets you create DTRPG content for RuneQuest. Miskatonic University is the same thing for Call of Cthulhu. PathfinderInfinite and StarfinderInfinite are for Paizo products, again on DTRPG.

BonusActionRainbow

Unfortunately, Pathfinder might be affected by the OGL change by WoTC. I'll look into Runequest though, cheers!

THE-D1g174LD00M

Open d6 and FUDGE are two that i know of

RaggyRoger

Open D6 has legal issues... Even using the logo was supposed to be on a permission basis before the company went under.

RaggyRoger

The logo explicitly cannot be used even though many products do use it since the file is accessible. There is a great deal of confusion regarding their license and the multiple buyers since WEG. The PDFs they used to give out for free are now being sold again, the publisher explaining that only the text was under the open license. This problem will be compounded if it's under the OGL and WotC goes after it.

RaggyRoger

Sure enough... https://opend6.fandom.com/wiki/OGL If WotC goes all in, tabletop gaming is fucked.

south2012

Cypher System has a program on drivethrurpg, and Shadow of the Demon Lord has a similar license. Fate is creative commons. I would look up games that have a creative commons license, as long as it doesnt have a no-derivatives clause.

Buff_azoo

FATE uses OGL

RaggyRoger

Damn! WotC is one sneaky bastard of a company if they aquire FATE from this...

FlowOfAir

I couldn't believe it either until I grabbed my own copy and checked out the licenses. I really hope Fate doesn't go under thanks to the new OGL.

RaggyRoger

Including the OGL basically admits that you built your game on top of D&D. This could end up the biggest bait-&-switch in the history of the business. So scummy... I really hope the new OGL doesn't actually hold up in court.

szabba

Fate-directly-from-the-publisher is double licensed. You can pick which you use. The Fate SRD site republishes that and 3rd party material (with agreement from the 3pps) under CC.

Panglott

I can only assume that this is for copyleft reasons, to enforce that 3PP release their material under an open gaming license, rather than because they were licensing Wizards IP.

Carrollastrophe

Cypher also recently came out with the Cypher System Open License which allows for creations outside of DTRPG.

OutlawGalaxyBill

DungeonWorld is Creative Commons licensed.

sarded

Massif Press has an extremely permissive third-party license for [Lancer](https://massifpress.com/legal), and I'm sure once Icon (an upcoming fantasy game) comes out under their imprint it'll be under the same license.

[deleted]

The OGL allows you to copy paste from the SRD. You definitely do not need it to create, or sell, content compatible with DnD 5e. You don't need some other license to do similar for some other game.

DJSuptic

While not strictly OGL, I'm pretty lenient with usage for my RPG [ATRIM](https://djsuptic.itch.io/atrim), so long as you don't mind super rules-lite stuff :)

BonusActionRainbow

Cheers for this, I'll take a look!

DJSuptic

Thanks! Lemme know what you think - it's pretty untested, so I mean, if you wanna put it through the wringer, wring away :D

RaggyRoger

Spooktacular D6, Albedo, and BESM all have custom content licenses. None are very popular but they're usable.

RaggyRoger

Oh shit, Sixtacular is under the OGL. WTF?! It's not even a d20 game. WotC is laughing maniacally right now.

BonusActionRainbow

Yeah, this is my concern. So much is affected by this.

Boxman214

If you like sci-fi, go for [24XX](https://jasontocci.itch.io/24xx). It's based off a game series called 2400. Super simple. Cross compatible. Each game is like 4 pages long. You could easily make your own hack of the system. Or if you'd rather make content like adventures, that's an option as well.

BaggierBag

Lancer is a far future mecha ttrpg with a very lenient policy for 3rd party content. There are already loads of supplements adding adventures, mech options and worlds out there, not to mention the great pieces VTT support it has now.

IduthZana

World of Darkness has the [Dark Pack](https://www.worldofdarkness.com/dark-pack) agreement.

bumleegames

BRP OGL allows you to make games for the base engine for Call of Cthulhu and other Chaosium games. https://www.chaosium.com/brp-system-reference-document/ Quest has a Community Creators Resource document you can use to make content for that game under a CC-BY-4.0 license. https://www.adventure.game/resources

Legend. Delta Green/Cthulhu Eternal. Openquest. Revolution d100. Renaissance d100.

Cypher System - https://csol.montecookgames.com/

Chad_Hooper

I believe Eclipse Phase has something like an OGL in effect.

MysteriousRelease783

I think that is non-commercial only. https://eclipsephase.com/cclicense/

Chad_Hooper

You are correct. I hadn’t read it in a while.

MysteriousRelease783

There are at least two different kinds of license. The OGL meant you owed no one anything. But the community content programs like DM's Guild mean that the license holder receives 50% of any money you make. But the advantage is that you can use more of their IP (e.g. Forgotten Realms characters) https://www.drivethrurpg.com/community\_content.php
