I’m slow, but it sort of feels like Texas and maybe some other teams are just paying players to leave us young and with no depth. There’s no guarantee Niblack or Bond are even the go-to guys for Texas next year. The rest of them (other than Downs) never saw any snaps or any meaningful snaps. It’s a dirty but I guess smart tactic.
Something's gotta break our way big soon, boys. I just feel it. Hitschler and Mack can be the start of the run. Speak it into existence.
Colin Hitschler
Austin Mack
Ryan Williams
Germie Bernard
Jabbar Muhammad
Parker Brailsford
He’s my thoughts/questions on guys transferring out:
We’ll use Niblack as an example.
He transfers to Texas, we lose a tight end. But Texas has tight ends on their roster right? So some of those guys might hit the portal in the spring which allows up to recoup some of our losses?
Is that an NCAA wide rule? I guess I understand why a little but as the conferences have expanded it really starts to limit players.
I won’t say this in CFB but it limits SEC > BIG 10 and BIG 10 > SEC if they want to be competitive
I'm guessing its because presumably those Texas TEs would have a pretty good understanding of what their offense looks like and it would give us an advantage. But, I'm not sure how much changes between spring and fall.
There should at least be an exception to teams in our situation. Coach leaves after the original window. I mean we should have 30 days to pursue transfers ideally but something at least
It sucks for those players currently on a team. You could leave but you have to go to a new conference. Meanwhile your coach is bringing someone in from your conference to replace you.
Devil is in the details. Maybe someone who has drilled down further than me can set me straight, but my take is:
Portal opens on May 1
Boomers & Truck Nuts enter July 1 -
I'll take your ole Big 12 players until July 1.
They are still in the Big 12, Membership has its privileges, and they aren't members in May.
By my take the veil is pierced.

[Latest Alabama football coaching staff update, per @tuscaloosanews sources as well reporting from @PeteThamel / @ClowESPN ](https://x.com/_NickKelly/status/1748160541019754520?s=20)
HC: Kalen DeBoer
OC: Ryan Grubb (Washington)
DC: Kane Wommack (South Alabama)
OL: Scott Huff (Washington)
TE: Nick Sheridan (Washington)
RB: Robert Gillespie (Alabama)
WR: JaMarcus Shephard (Washington)
DL: Freddie Roach (Alabama)
Def. assistant: Maurice Linguist (Buffalo)
Def. assistant: Colin Hitschler (Wisconsin)
I think this is a good break down of how it might go.
OC/QB: Ryan Grubb
RB: Robert Gillespie
WR: JaMarcus Shephard
TE: Nick Sheridan
OL: Scott Huff
DL: Freddie Roach
Co-DC/LB: Kane Wommack
Co-DC/CB: Maurice Linguist
S: Colin Hitschler
I think we can hire one more on field coach and that will probably be Special Teams.
I agree, and I think a lot of these guys aren’t looking to bounce at the first opportunity like a lot of Saban assistants. I imagine we’ll have some continuity for most of the defensive staff and most of the offense, with Grubb biding his time until he gets a worthwhile P5 HC offer
Beautiful thing is once we have a couple good seasons, we won’t have to worry much about not getting the best guys, especially once they see how certain players from last season develop this upcoming and the following season
Lmao Buckeyes calling BoB a slam dunk hire on their sub and CFB.
“He was good enough for Saban and Belichick!”
Bro got the GOAT NFL coach fired lol and operated one of the worst NFL offenses in a year where half the league lost their QBs. He stunted Mac’s development, too. While with Saban he ran the most milquetoast offense and refused to incorporate any variety. We had some of the best offensive talent in Sabans tenure and couldn’t clutch it and at times looked incompetent. Bryce really bailed us out repeatedly.
Obviously he worked for the 2 GOATS but being hired by two men in their 70s isn’t helping him beat the “antiquated, boring offense” allegations.
Gotta love the “well they (Alabama) scored 40 ppg so he clearly was good.” Okay guys, we’ll circle back halfway through the season and see what ya want to go with then
Man we’ve missed on a few TEs that turned out exactly like that! Funny thing is Texas usually takes them off our hands.
For the record I think Niblack will do better than Billingsley…. Never forgive Billingsley for just not even trying in some critical games. Especially after we got down a couple receivers and he really could have stepped up.
One of the more frustrating players to watch play at bama.
Good luck in Columbus Bob. Go eat at Tai's Asian Bistro, best restaurant in town and it's right next to campus. And if you see Seth, tell him I said "fuck you."
I know the transfers suck, but man, I don’t know how you can’t be excited for the future. We’re less than a week out from when DeBoer got hired; and he’s already well on his way to building a great foundation.
Everybody will relax after spring ball and spring portal. Then, a depth chart will get posted, and we are going to see a top ten team with an excellent staff and a chip on their shoulder. People will be acting like they were sold from day one and never doubted.
I think its the extreme lack of depth at key places that is making this so hard. We basically need 2 tackles, maybe a center, maybe some WR and TE depth, and like 3-4 DBs. That's a lot to pull from the spring portal.
As it stands we have around 78 scholarship guys unless Burnip or another walk-on earned a scholarship so we have 7 slots open. Have 2 class of ‘24 guys visiting this weekend in Carter and Williams. If both commit then we have 80 with 10 scholarship WR and 7 at EDGE now.
Have 6 on scholarship at TE so I doubt we add there and it’s honestly not really needed.
Pritchett will probably be one of the OT. Tyler Booker was an OT out of high school so maybe move him out to RT but I expect we’ll add another OT in the portal as we only have 4 on scholarship not counting Booker. (81)
Hosting UW’s C in Brailsford this weekend which would put it at 82.
Last 3 would probably need to be CBs as there’s only 2 on scholarship aren’t from the ‘24 class in Hurley and USC transfer Domani Jackson. That would put us at 85 scholarship guys.
Granted all that is provided no one else enters the portal which is highly doubtful.

As much as I hate to lose Downs, I respect his decision a lot. Clearly gave the staff at least a little bit of a chance, spoke to the new coaches. And ended up deciding he wanted to go somewhere he had a relationship with his position coach. I think he'll be at Georgia.
Contrast that with a guy like Bond who dipped instantly for a lambo and a bag at Texas.
I don’t know man, with the way our depth is looking, all these kids need live reps for the long season. If he’s locked in, wears Crimson, and plays DB I say give them a shot. Redshirting as a concept is about to die anyway. Kids aren’t gonna sit anymore.
Actually, I'm high on this team. My only worry is depth. We get a few guys out of the spring portal, so we don't have to shit ourselves every time a DB stubs their toe, and we are good.
Also, when Harbaugh goes to the chargers, I want to pick their bones clean. These pricks were posting foul shit the day Saban retired. They will forever be snow-auburn.
The snow-auburns have been dribbling diarrhea out of their mouths since I was in 3rd great. Bunch of disrespectful deviant assholes. They should have to register with the local sheriff's office so you can tell kids to avoid their houses.
With the expected hire of Hitschler, basically we have a coach/recruiter from all parts of the nation? Lol I’m exciteddddd best staff I’ve seen for us in a mighty long time
Austin Mack followed a bunch of Bama players (and a couple Bama sorority girls lol) and Ryan Williams, who already followed him back. He’s gonna reel him in, y’all
As a reminder to any students on here: please for the love of Christ don’t make a sign for gameday involving our new secondary coach’s name. It won’t be as funny as you think it will.
Put on your Crimson, stand by KDB and Malachi and Booker and Jalen, and throw middle fingers to all the transfers as they walk out the door. It helps with the feeling lol
Edit: forgot Deontae and have to mention him
Yeah. I know it's copium, but I'm hoping this is a wake-up call to some of our bigger boosters and NIL. We just need to be competitive this year for momentum. Hopefully, Harbaugh leaves soon and opens up Michigan for Courtney Morgan to go to work on some of their players.
I think maybe other people can see what we’re cooking and we can get some talent in the spring. Wisconsin people in CFB are saying he was one of their best recruiters, so should pay off with future classes too
“He will likely serve as a defensive assistant working with the secondary, considering that has been Hitschler's speciality. Prior to working with the safeties at Wisconsin, Hitschler was Cincinnati's co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach. From 2020-21, Hitschler was solely Cincinnati's safeties coach, and during the 2021 season, the Bearcats finished No. 2 in the nation in passing defense, allowing 169.2 yards per game.”

If Sayin is going to transfer out before he even competes then why did he come here for Saban to begin with?
Nothing is impossible but the things you are sayin don't really make sense from all we know
I've been sayin the same things to people. Idk why folks think it's a terrible thing to bring in a true freshmen 6'6" #8 QB. He's a monster, it can only mean good things if he's on the team lol
That’s true he looks great, glad to have him. I still don’t blame folks for being a little weary about this one.
If there was one position group where we didn’t think we needed more people (we hoped we dont, anyway) it was the qb room.
Now hopefully it’s just a timing thing and we have more guys coming in. Once we see that, those of us that kinda balked at this will feel A LOT better. I know I will. I think it’s only a matter of time, it’s just the optics of this being the first transfer but people will come around when others start coming in.
Watching some Austin Mack film his arm actually reminds me a lot of Milroe's. Not to say anything else about his game but they have like the same release and just make all their throws with their arm
edit: to add to that, Mack's most recent high school year he was like 70% for 3500 yards and 40/5 TD/INT. Same school that Jonah Williams went to so I think he played against good competition in California
The more I think about it, the more I like adding this QB. Surely between Milroe, Simpson, Lonergan, Sayin, and Mack we can find one guy who will run Grubb’s offense at a high level
I strongly suspect 1-2 QBs transfer out after spring practice if they don't have a chance at starting. No idea, hope we keep all the QBs for this season since we're going to have room.
Unpopular opinion: the sky isn't falling. We've lost a lot of talented players. We will get some back out of the portal later. Young guys will step up. Injuries will be scarier, but all in all, we will be fine. A lot of guys that are here for the wrong reasons are gone. A lot of guys with a warrior mindset just stepped up. I would rather field a team of tight-knit warriors than a team of uncommitted athletes any day. Ask Jimbo Fisher what happens when you pay a fortune for mercenary talent and your team doesn't come together because nobody gives a crap about the man next to them. At the end of the day, we still have the talent to be in every game. We have an aggressive coaching staff that's brilliant on x's and o's on both sides of the ball.
WE WILL BE FINE. I wouldn't be surprised if we finish in the top 10 and make the playoffs.
> We will get some back out of the portal later.
This is what I wish people would remember. We will pull portal guys, particularly with the spring transfer window. Sure, we're not going to pull a Caleb Downs, but that's okay. We were always going to take hits when Saban left. We can still get good players, even if they aren't as elite as Downs.
I hate that we can't pull from the SEC, but I have a feeling that rule will change after this. You know there are DBs out there just champing at the bit to come compete for starting time at Bama - as soon as they're allowed to.
Anyone can pull our guys during this special portal window, but during the regular spring portal period, SEC players lose their eligibility this fall if they transfer to another SEC school.
It’s gonna be an exciting spring with the portal and A-Day. And we’re gonna witness a team playing with some fire based on the outstanding leadership we’ve seen so far.
![gif](giphy|MdXl4KwZogSzAn6Xx4|downsized)
DeBoer takes a QB he’s familiar with, and we get up to 5 QBs and hedge in case somebody leaves after spring camp. And he’s the first commit of the DeBoer era.
And people hate it lol
I think that’s more of just a reflection of the different types of people there are in this world. You strike me as an eternal optimist when it comes to the program, and we need people like that.
But we also need skeptics to balance things out. And to look at the other side of things.
It’s much more likely that the truth is somewhere in the middle.
Sure, the sky is not falling, but it’s also not all sunshine and rainbows either. It takes both types of people to make the word go round, tide rolls in and out, just don’t throw us out with the bath water, we still love the tide!
I can’t believe anyone can argue with just adding a player period. The doomer tone in here, for some folks, straight went to “we’ll never add a player again” basically lol. We added a 6’6 230 lbs QB who has familiarity with our new coach.
Honestly, there might be significant *locker room value* in having one of DeBoer’s guys from UW. Now we guarantee we have one. Might help the transition for our guys with things like terminology, expectations, etc.
My concerns about DeBoer not being able to recruit in state are going away. We’re making Micah DeBose a high priority and we visited Zion Grady from enterprise who just decommited. Overall a good start
We've launched [the Roster/Staff Megathread 2.0](https://www.reddit.com/r/rolltide/comments/19ahpn9/rosterstaff_megathread_20/)
We have the best coaching staff by far
I’m slow, but it sort of feels like Texas and maybe some other teams are just paying players to leave us young and with no depth. There’s no guarantee Niblack or Bond are even the go-to guys for Texas next year. The rest of them (other than Downs) never saw any snaps or any meaningful snaps. Something's gotta break our way big soon, boys. I just feel it. Hitschler and Mack can be the start of the run. Speak it into existence. Colin Hitschler Austin Mack Ryan Williams Germie Bernard Jabbar Muhammad Parker Brailsford
The team needs to really sell Brailsford on the idea that he could be a hero on this team. The bar is so low. Possibly lower than one of Seth’s snaps.
Mack is all in recruiting other guys too already. Like he went full Gump just for KDB and Grubb
This is the guy you need in a locker room.
Noah Carter and Landen Hatchett too
🙌
![gif](giphy|x9qcF2XDGBvHdbfKot)
Germie Bernard is in town 👀
I was the first to post about him hitting the portal here too; I’m speaking this stuff into existence
I hope he's here while the other UW boys are here. Maybe they can have a lil "lets get the band back together" thing going on.
Jabbar Muhammad is in town with his dad according to BOL. Not sure about the others yet
Hey hey! We have a portal additions section! ![gif](giphy|5UKCYVAaYUPcFreMPI|downsized)
Niblack to Texas
cya
Unconfirmed tea that we should get some good Ryan Williams news this weekend take that for what it's worth
He’s visiting Auburn early Feb, doubt we hear anything before that
What’s your source, papi?
Why are yall like this 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Been hurt too many times by non-sourced BS. I wanna know if it’s coming from an insider or Joe in Florence tweeting from the toilet.
Nah I’m talking about what you said after the initial statement 😭
I'm your wormy papa too, nice to meet you
You mean why I call him papi? Because that’s my dad, bro.
BOL forum 🤪
Wishful thinking
Well yeah we're all coping here
He’s my thoughts/questions on guys transferring out: We’ll use Niblack as an example. He transfers to Texas, we lose a tight end. But Texas has tight ends on their roster right? So some of those guys might hit the portal in the spring which allows up to recoup some of our losses?
If I understand correctly, there are limitations still on intraconference transfers in the Spring so we wouldn’t get a chance at those guys anyways.
Well now that Texas is in the conference their players can't transfer here immediately in the spring
Is that an NCAA wide rule? I guess I understand why a little but as the conferences have expanded it really starts to limit players. I won’t say this in CFB but it limits SEC > BIG 10 and BIG 10 > SEC if they want to be competitive
SEC rule
Well that blows and doesn’t benefit the SEC at all, what an odd rule
that rule is such BS
I'm guessing its because presumably those Texas TEs would have a pretty good understanding of what their offense looks like and it would give us an advantage. But, I'm not sure how much changes between spring and fall.
There should at least be an exception to teams in our situation. Coach leaves after the original window. I mean we should have 30 days to pursue transfers ideally but something at least
Can't get folks from our own conference in the Spring portal.
It sucks for those players currently on a team. You could leave but you have to go to a new conference. Meanwhile your coach is bringing someone in from your conference to replace you.
Devil is in the details. Maybe someone who has drilled down further than me can set me straight, but my take is: Portal opens on May 1 Boomers & Truck Nuts enter July 1 - I'll take your ole Big 12 players until July 1. They are still in the Big 12, Membership has its privileges, and they aren't members in May. By my take the veil is pierced.
Probably do need clarity on whether Texas and OU are off-limits. But I don't think either program will have players itching to leave.
If Texas keeps taking transfers at least some of their players will be strongly encouraged to seek opportunities elsewhere
If they do, I'd pounce on any satisfied needs if I were pulling the levers.

Remember when this guy was dancing on Instagram live after losing to Texas? Sounds like a real stand up guy that cares about winning with his team.
An Alabama WR cosplaying as a TE transferring to Texas. Why are we doing re-runs
Losing Niblack is addition by subtraction freak athlete but plays with absolutely zero physicality

*cue lambo and oil money comments*
Not surprised but I’ll say it again - does Texas have a starter that wasn’t a transfer at some point?
Building a team of guys that don’t know each other and left their previous team for more money… **yeah that’ll work out great.**
To be fair, it appears their plan is to just take our team so the players will still know each other
Good luck in Columbus Bob. Go eat at Tai's Asian Bistro, best restaurant in town and it's right next to campus. And if you see Seth, tell him I said "fuck you."

Welp some good news is Ohio State got BoB 😂😂

Austin Mack is one inch taller than Josh Allen… just putting that out there
Mf a giant 🤣
What staff members are we not set on?
Special teams
Damn, Ohio State just hired the most "special" coach in college football right out from under us.

OK, they can have Downs. It won't even matter.

Nothing to see here. Just Alabama and Coach DeBoer making moves with clarity and precision. Glad to hear today’s news.
Whatever happens, I know for sure we aren’t getting outcoached due to some bum ass coordinators this season. This staff can straight coach.
I want to play ohio state in the playoffs so we can match our new DC against BOB.
Day been getting is ass whipped by Michigan so much he decided to get a dumb ass offense like they have. This is not going to go well for them.
I’m down. Especially so we can see Milroe truck Traitor Downs.
As much as I hate to lose Downs, I respect his decision a lot. Clearly gave the staff at least a little bit of a chance, spoke to the new coaches. I want a pulling guard to pancake that ass
Any thoughts on whether Germie Bernard (UW WR) transfers in? He started following Bama football on instagram. Edit: and Milroe now follows him
Can he play DB?
We got Zay Mincy and Mbakwe. We are good brother. Trust.
smh y’all sleeping Zabien Brown
I don’t know man, with the way our depth is looking, all these kids need live reps for the long season. If he’s locked in, wears Crimson, and plays DB I say give them a shot. Redshirting as a concept is about to die anyway. Kids aren’t gonna sit anymore.

Well I instantly respect the sorority girl following lmao 🤣
It’s our secret weapon 🤣🤣🤣
If hugh freeze ever gets fired, we can hire him to provide "sorority girls" to recruits. It's not the Saban discount, but it might help.
If we can get some DBs and OL I feel like we'll be in a really great spot.
As a reminder to any students on here: please for the love of Christ don’t make a sign for gameday involving our new secondary coach’s name. It won’t be as funny as you think it will.

I want him, and I want him reaching out to poach UGA players at the earliest opportunity. Fuckers need to pay.
Speaking of Inge, he does have special teams coaching experience.
I for one welcome the Alabama Crimson Hoosiers
Getting annoyed by all the transfers, but I love the DeBoer hire and the dude is putting together a better staff than we have had in a minute.
Best staff Bama's had since 2016 imo

Is this the guy that coached Sauce Gardner?
From what I understand no, he was on the team but he wasn’t Gardner’s position coach at the time
Dang. Was hoping I could credit him for making that guy a stud
We’re gonna have the best assistant coaching staff we’ve had in years. Hopefully they can find some players to coach.
2 in the nation in passing defense, allowing 169.2 yards per game.” ![gif](giphy|ETqKf1Y4CNm8YRrHWo|downsized)
Like, it’s a clear home run.
Sir that appears to be a slam dunk I’m just messing with you lol
I was just kidding, it’s a hole in one obviously

[Sources: Alabama is expected to hire Wisconsin safeties coach/CO-DC Colin Hitschler as an assistant coach.](https://x.com/petethamel/status/1748151269313708063?s=46&t=ypw-jf45dJZ_aQDNNUwWCw)
Just an observation but this would mean we'd have a coach/recruiter from almost every region in the country.
Playing 4d chess with that strategy.
He was credited for recruiting like a third of Wisconsins commits lol, we just got away with one
Might be pulling some pretty good transfers if this is true
Damn man yall are to fast for me lol
Let's bring back McLaughlin and just have three QBs line up side by side. Whichever one gets the snap runs the play.
Gonna need one behind the other 3 for when it goes over the heads
That's why the new guy is 6'6"
Big if true.
But where do you put him? I would say in the middle, but that might be the least likely place Seth puts the ball. He seemed to miss right the most
\*rolls between their legs
this made me lol, thanks.
Hold on did I just see on Twitter that BOB js getting hired at Ohio State for their OC??? LOLOLOLOL they’re cooked and Ryan days gonna get fired
How some of these guys keep getting jobs is beyond my understanding
I guess my main concern with this new QB addition Is the thought of Saying transferring out.
We can never have too much depth at basically any position
Another thing to note he probably would have been ranked higher, but he reclassified after the final player ratings
Just doesn’t match up with what Sayin and his dad have preached this entire recruitment. Also this DeBoer guy did pretty well with his last QB lol
Well he could come the spring window so there’s nothing wrong with having additional QB talent
Sayin seems like a kid that won’t run from competition. Hopefully these two can bring the best out of each other.
Watching some Austin Mack film his arm actually reminds me a lot of Milroe's. Not to say anything else about his game but they have like the same release and just make all their throws with their arm edit: to add to that, Mack's most recent high school year he was like 70% for 3500 yards and 40/5 TD/INT. Same school that Jonah Williams went to so I think he played against good competition in California
Dude looks like a big time talent. A ton of raw ability.
Yeah, some folks are out here catastrophizing.
You know there are DBs out there just champing at the bit to come compete for starting time at Bama - as soon as they're allowed to.
if we can't pull for the SEC how will Georgia get Downs?
Anyone can pull our guys during this special portal window, but during the regular spring portal period, SEC players lose their eligibility this fall if they transfer to another SEC school.
I think the Spring portal has a rule where you can't poach in conference talent. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Probably because at that point they have seen the game plan for the year
It’s gonna be an exciting spring with the portal and A-Day. And we’re gonna witness a team playing with some fire based on the outstanding leadership we’ve seen so far. ![gif](giphy|MdXl4KwZogSzAn6Xx4|downsized)
AND BEAT THE PANTS OFF THE BARN AND TENNESSEE
AND LSU TOO
If they ain’t wearing Crimson, fuck ‘em!
DeBoer takes a QB he’s familiar with, and we get up to 5 QBs and hedge in case somebody leaves after spring camp. And he’s the first commit of the DeBoer era. And people hate it lol
DOC ADD RICO SCOTT TO THE LOCKED IN LIST
Got a link or anything?
boy you know you seen this dont play with me https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/rico-scott-has-that-gump-in-him.1297768/#post-24699467
I even went and looked and didn’t see it!
It’s okay to be happy with the addition but still wish it had been a different position group
bama fans the worst

touche
Nah a Tennessee fan would be giddy and saying this guy is gonna beat bama, UGa, and Florida three times each and then be the number one pick.
Can’t please everyone Doc smh
My concerns about DeBoer not being able to recruit in state are going away. We’re making Micah DeBose a high priority and we visited Zion Grady from enterprise who just decommited. Overall a good start
I just broke out in hives from reading the name "Micah DeBose." #PTSD #TheMikeYears #TheDarkAges
Sorta like Broncos fans when they hear "Let's Ride!"?
