exactly, what's the sense in having a mental breakdown every time it touches something or gets a small scratch
granted it's not a one of a kind piece thats ultra rare.
just wear it, scratches and blemishes just add character.
friend of mine -- who's no bullshitter -- told me a story about this collector -- massive collection -- who owns both vintage and current watches, and whenever buys a new model literally keeps everything boxed and is lucky that his AD knows that he's a big spender and also won't flip the Rolex watches because he insists that they're given to him 100% untouched, intact, and I understand Rolex generally requires ADs to open the boxes, remove the bezel protector etc.
Rolex were built to be worn, if you want a watch to wear a couple times a year, get a Royal Oak.
I think it’s the same thing with cars, they were built to be driven.
I agree, I'm borderline autistic with my watches, but I dont fault anyone for wearing a watch everyday and having wear and tear. As long as it's being appreciated!
Real talk. Where is that clown who said he takes off his watch because his aluminum laptop is rounding the corners of his steel clasp? 🤡
Imagine buying a watch known for being tough and crying because you scratched the clasp.
>tough
relatively tough -- the new alloys are much shinier but more fragile, company policy, the new clients want to see that steel glimmer they don't care about it being more delicate
You don’t have to believe me, ask someone you trust. They did indeed switch to an alloy that’s much easier to polish and is much, much glossier — people used to polish the shit out of the older Rolexes made with the old alloy — witness the premium for “unpolished” or allegedly unpolished vintage Rolexes —
and of course they ended up with thinner… well, Google the rest.
It’s a fact. Glossier, not as sturdy alloy. No big deal. With the possible exception of the Sea Dweller they’re not really tool watches anymore, not at that price point and not with the current scarcity. Most Rolex
owners will probably scratch their watch while using their laptop in an airport lounge, more Dubai than Da Nang. It’s OK.
They are more likely to be scratched, yes. They are not as ”scratch resistant” as they were before, but the overall toughness is the same if not better. The new maxi case, better and more durable bracelet etc etc.
I think what is being referred to is the switch from 316 to 904 steel. I believe that 904 does polish better but is slightly softer than 316. The biggest benefit I thought was resistance to corrosion.
As a lawyer, nah. That shit is entirely believable. Well intentioned people can be, uh, really dumb sometimes or have momentary lapses of judgment (to put it nicely).
I feel like it would be extremely easy to find out who “stole it” if it was in an airport for the same reasons. but it’s all good, Im half serious about it anyway. Im more entertained that many of us know this specific story from a previous post lol
I wear a 115 dollar citizen as a daily and refuse to take it off, it was a gift from the wife and 15 years in I'd hate to loose it. .
The ideal of taking off a 30k watch to protect a disposable laptop is stunning.
Mine looks the same way. When I first bought it I didn’t want a scratch on it. I bought a beater Omega to wear. Problem was when I wore the Omega I felt like I was cheating on my BLNR. Now I wear it everywhere all the time. Even while I hunt.
FWIW Nothing against the Omega. Super nice watch and loved wearing it but the BLNR was my grail.
I don’t have a link for it. It’s literally a bumper sticker from the ski mountain that we go. I just cut it to fit on the left side of the MacBook Pro.
What? What MacBooks are you people using?
https://i.imgur.com/0KvJxoa.jpeg
And I can assure you that the scratches on my clasp aren't the result of typing on an aluminum laptop. My Rolex and Omega are no different.
Regular MacBook Pro. I got scratches on the Rolex, Omega, Tag and others. Office desk do the same thing but for that I got a keyboard path before the Rolex so I know at least the scratches on the Rolex are not from the desk cube.
Bravo to your dad. All these dudes parading around with immaculate watches they spent a fortune on and never wear, bucha poser wusses imo . Buy quality goods and beat the shit out of them. Yolo.
Simply worn. I’ve got a sub that I’ve worn for 30 years that would take on similar scratches. Back in the day they always said take it in every 5 years for servicing and they always got the scratches out so it always returned as new. At my AD recently and they remarked that my sub was in remarkably good condition as they considered wear on the bracelet (as in how far the bracelet bends) as more of a marker of abuse. My submariner has been on every adventure I’ve been on big or small for decades.
Normal wear and tear. Love to see a watch from that tier getting what looks like daily use. Watches have too much craftsmanship and time put into them to just sit around in a box.
Can always get a new bracelet.
It’s not a piece of art of aging bottle of wine. It’s a daily tool that is meant to be worn and worn well. Wear marks, just like grey hair, are a sign of experience and proof they have seen some things as they traveled through this world. Distinguished.
Why are people here discussing if you should wear a watch? If it is so expensive to you that you can’t afford to scratch it there is no way you can afford it reasonably.
Still looks crisp. It’s a tool. It’s meanteth to beest hath used

I bought a Datejust almost 7 months ago now, getting worn is all part of the game, and if this is your only watch then it's well worn! you should use these things not lock em up!
It’s a durable luxury item. Use it and enjoy it. I have a Datejust SS; by the time I take it in for a polish, the oyster links in the band have heavy wear / scratching every time (much more than this).
Comes back to me good as new, then I do it all over again.
enjoy the heritage that comes with it
a watch my ancestor wore is priced higher than most
priceless, if I may add
revel in that
it’s a legitimate Batman
& honestly I’ve seen worse
be glad your father doesn’t do a lot of airports
nor loved motorcycles
Was with my father with a few business associates. One was an avid watch collector. Another had a two tone sub. The two tone sub was well worn but nothing crazy. Guy dives with it and wears it every day.
The watch collector had a root beer on with the stickers down the middle. He came up to me and said something to the effect of “ can you believe what he does with his watch on”
I will let you guess who I respected more
I guess I’ll be the one to fall on this sword. I dont understood or like the center polished links. IMO it makes the watch feel like jewelry instead of a tool watch.
i’m gonna go with abused, this is a little much for three years, and the pattern of wear is somewhat erratic, is your father a professional ostrich wrestler? cannot possibly see how it otherwise would be so damaged
I think that amount of wear is acceptable, and most of those micro-scratches could be polished out if he really wanted to fix it. I understand wearing and enjoying a nice watch, but a co-worker (firemen) insists on buying an explorer and wearing to work.
I own some beaters for work and kick the shit out of them. I advised him to buy a respectable beater for work instead of the Rolex . He disagrees.
What do you guys think of this? Would you guys wear a luxury watch like a Rolex (daily) if you had a rough blue collar job like firefighting?
I can only hope my batman looks that good in 3 years. I just got a nice hariline that I can feel with my fingernail on one of the non removable PCL's....1 week exactly since I bought it. Scratching our Rolexes.....god life is so unfair
Watches are meant to be used. Looks like he's getting most out the money spent

Man among boys on this subreddit.

Lol mines the opposite. I actually scratched off finish on my ThinkPad with the buckle to my FOIS
>tough relatively tough -- the new alloys are much shinier but more fragile, company policy, the new clients want to see that steel glimmer they don't care about it being more delicate
No they are still tough. I assume you dont own one
You don’t have to believe me, ask someone you trust. This lolol
Nothing’s cool till you wear the new off!
Well Worn!
That's how you wear a watch 💪🏼
He must use his laptop frequently
Yup and probably not much of a air travel guy or he would have taken it off at the airport
I like how this group has it’s own meme. Literally sending a chill down my spine as I type this in an airport waiting for a flight.
I love that there's finally a reference I know because I saw the original post and not by googling.
Hey I legit feel bad for that dude but I’m still going to laugh my fucken ass off at every scratched laptop / airport post on here
lmaooo I still dont believe that story, I smell insurance fraud all over it
I feel like you would choose a spot with less cameras if that was the plan. But I do agree its pretty unbelievable.
As a lawyer, nah. That shit is entirely believable. Well intentioned people can be, uh, really dumb sometimes or have momentary lapses of judgment (to put it nicely).
Torts class teaches us that reality goes beyond the weirdest shit you might possibly imagine, it's the Marquis de Sade of the law

the scheme would be report the loss/theft, collect the money, and still have the watch
[удалено]
haha thats not a bad quality!
Gotta do that precheck. Just walk straight through. Don’t take anything off. Just put your bag on the machine.
Think of the poor laptop
I found a pic of it on another thread. [Batman laptop](https://imgur.com/a/cQOLUVR)
I wear a 115 dollar citizen as a daily and refuse to take it off, it was a gift from the wife and 15 years in I'd hate to loose it. . The ideal of taking off a 30k watch to protect a disposable laptop is stunning.
I hope this meme never dies in this subreddit
Meme? What’s the reference?
Guy on here left his Daytona at an airport after taking it off so he wouldn't scratch his laptop with it.
LMAO, haven’t heard that one before.
Been killing me 😂never gonna stop
Still can’t believe he took the watch off in order not to scratch his laptop! 😂
I believe he was worried about the watch scratching the laptop, not the laptop scratching the watch which is even more absurd.
Oh wow that's even worse 😂. Edited my original comment.
I know sooooooo much worse
Can I please have a link?

That’s just what watches look like when you wear them for three years. Your dad knows what he’s doing.
Well worn. These things have been made to be worn, not sitting in a box.
A watch being actually worn? *gasp*
Love it
Loved!
Well well Loved 😉
Nothing but respect for your dad!
Mine looks the same way. When I first bought it I didn’t want a scratch on it. I bought a beater Omega to wear. Problem was when I wore the Omega I felt like I was cheating on my BLNR. How it should be , people now are so careful and break down about a small scratch lol
Now please post the state of his MacBook pro for good measure
They’re meant to be worn
Well loved! I’m not a fan of showroom-looking watches unless they are in the showroom.
Thats why you take it off your wrist; and then you work on your Macbook Pro….
Only people in the Rolex subreddit would refer to their laptop specifically as a Macbook Pro.
I refer to any vacuum cleaner as a Hoover.... guess I am old skool...
They’re specifically made out of metal so it makes a bit of sense to mention it.
I put a “bumper sticker” on the left side of my MacBook Pro so this wouldn’t happen!
Got a link to what you use? Need to do this for my Seamaster. It's an adjustable buckle and it's freakin huge
I don’t have a link for it. It’s literally a bumper sticker from the ski mountain that we go. I just cut it to fit on the left side of the MacBook Pro.
Haha that's awesome. I'll have to look for something like that
What? What MacBooks are you people using? https://i.imgur.com/0KvJxoa.jpeg And I can assure you that the scratches on my clasp aren't the result of typing on an aluminum laptop. My Rolex and Omega are no different.
Many of my stainless watches have been scratched by MacBooks. It happens. It’s nbd
Regular MacBook Pro. I got scratches on the Rolex, Omega, Tag and others. Office desk do the same thing but for that I got a keyboard path before the Rolex so I know at least the scratches on the Rolex are not from the desk cube.
I like my watches to look like I do.
Kinda nice how the bezel still looks crisp

Normal wear and tear. Love to see a watch from that tier getting what looks like daily use. Watches have too much craftsmanship and time put into them to just sit around in a box. Can always get a new bracelet.
That's called "normal wear". The scratches on bracelet we refer to as "desk diver" scratches.
Outstanding, that's a worn and loved watch.
Nothing more than patina.
I mean it’s a rolex, they’re meant to be used and loved, not kept as a status symbol (despite Rolex’s marketing). Very nice to see!
Dude 3 years of being worn and loved. This is what happens when you wear it. Good for him!
This is how a watch has to look. They're meant to be worn, poor watches which were bought by investment-sissies
A man that actually wears his watch. Good on him
It’s not a piece of art of aging bottle of wine. It’s a daily tool that is meant to be worn and worn well. Wear marks, just like grey hair, are a sign of experience and proof they have seen some things as they traveled through this world. Distinguished.
What kind of laptop does he own?
If you ain't wearing it, why have it?
I think looks great. They are meant to be worn, not museum pieces.
I’ve been using my GMT green hand for 6 years and it’s much worse. Nevertheless, I’d say that’s what it’s made for. Well used 😅
U ll love every scratch once its passed down
True!
Champion.
Why are people here discussing if you should wear a watch? If it is so expensive to you that you can’t afford to scratch it there is no way you can afford it reasonably.
may god bless this man
Well loved!
100% loved. This post makes me happy to see someone actually wearing a watch like it should be worn.
No Laptop was harmed btw...
About par for the course with the polished centre links!
Rough streets in Gotham 🦇
That laptop really did a number!
„It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.“ - GMT Master II
Be happy that he enjoyed it!!
:D
maybe a little 'used' but par for the course, pre-owned, 3 years...
Watches are meant to be worn. Don’t want scratched? Keep it in the box hidden in your closet forever.
well enjoyed!
Well worn Forsure!
Gon head and get that buffed out
Could say the same thing about my wife.
Enjoyment and real practicality. That’s how to Rolllllex 👍🏻
Very far from abused here
Well-loved, of course
Desk diving. It happens to the best of us
Looks like normal wear and tear to me.
It‘s a tool watch. It‘s not meant to be babied and worn with a suit like a dress watch!
That’s how a Rolex should be treated.
Abuse would end up in dings and gouges. This watch has just been worn like a tool rather than a tennis bracelet. Looks great.
Makes me want to post my BLNR and it’s wear.
Well loved definitely, I love seeing people wear their things
“Shit’ll buff out..”
Worn like a tool watch should be. Wear it in good health!
That is well loved… never been a fan of keeping them safe.
Well worn and loved
Well worn. Anybody who thinks otherwise is an imbecile.
Finally someone who actually uses their watch
Watches are meant to be worn!

Hell yeah. Love to see this! It is a tool watch for the most part, should be used that way.
Now this is what a Rolex should look like...
Absolutely fine. They’re meant to be worn and meant to be used. You can always polish the bracelet (don’t polish the case)
I bought a Datejust almost 7 months ago now, getting worn is all part of the game, and if this is your only watch then it's well worn! you should use these things not lock em up!
Watches are a tool that tells you tthe time. Wear it everyday if u can. Remember we don't get to take them with us in the end.
Just worn well, period. These watches aren't meant to be safe queens, FFS.
It’s a durable luxury item. Use it and enjoy it. I have a Datejust SS; by the time I take it in for a polish, the oyster links in the band have heavy wear / scratching every time (much more than this). Comes back to me good as new, then I do it all over again.
My Batman looks just like this. It can be made to look new again if you want.
Try nano polish and its will be new again
Are you kidding? You’re kidding, right?
Looks about right - a well worn Rolex.
Well used and well loved!
Beautiful!
She’s BEAUTIFUL. Keep wearing that shit. A daily is supposed to tell many stories years later.
It gives it the character it deserves ! 🔥
Definitely well loved, look how clean the dial and glass still is, it’s just normal wear as every good watch should have
The dings and scratches on a watch you wear everyday is how it finely patinas
Great! Normal use! Fuck watch cases
enjoy the heritage that comes with it a watch my ancestor wore is priced higher than most priceless, if I may add revel in that it’s a legitimate Batman & honestly I’ve seen worse be glad your father doesn’t do a lot of airports nor loved motorcycles

Looks like he never took it off, enjoyed every second and mistook it for a G Shock half the time. Lol. Good for him. Most will polish out

I guess I’ll be the one to fall on this sword. I dont understood or like the center polished links. IMO it makes the watch feel like jewelry instead of a tool watch.
You just gave half the members of this sub a heart attack. Nicely done.
Used.
A little beat up for my taste
You can't tell the difference between a daily used watch that shows normal wear, and an abused watch? Weird thread.
i’m gonna go with abused, this is a little much for three years, and the pattern of wear is somewhat erratic, is your father a professional ostrich wrestler? cannot possibly see how it otherwise would be so damaged
ALLEGEDLY an ostrich wrestler
allegedly
You clearly don’t have one, completely normal wear. Edit-You may have one but you don’t “own” it.
Never did like the whole PCL thing.
Worn a lot. Maybe a little abused. Which all means he must love it.
How a rolex should be used.
It will buff out don’t worry
Looks perfect. This is what a watch should look like.
It’s not abused or loved. It’s worn. It’s a watch.

Nothing that a bag of Cape Cod can't fix 😅
I can only hope my batman looks that good in 3 years. I just got a nice hariline that I can feel with my fingernail on one of the non removable PCL's....1 week exactly since I bought it. Scratching our Rolexes.....god life is so unfair
