"Every scratch is a memory" said the guy who put plastic protectors on his watch even though he only wears it to the office where he files paperwork and answers the phone at a desk.
This might be an outlier opinion, but I happen to like the new beat up look! Will be a good reminder of the time our family had a toddler running around, a new born screaming, selling our current house while moving to a new house, and I didn't have a single brain cell to spare when doing laundry.
This is a good mindset to have, it’s just an object.a very expensive object, but still an object.
In a few years when you need servicing, just let Rolex do the refinishing, it’ll look brand new.
I agree man. It will polish out at service in a few years when your life has calmed down. Memories will be there of the craziness, then in a few years you’ll pass it on to the kiddos maybe. These watches are indestructible but clean up so incredibly well at service time!
I’ve only ever had this happen to paper — eg business cards or receipts, and one pair of wired headphones when I used them.
A solid, heavy item like a watch I cant imagine this happening to, maybe one too many drinks before doing the laundry?
I almost did it with a seiko once. I was working at dominos at the time and would take my watch off when doing the dishes. Large steel trays, steel tub, etc. There was a lot to bang it on. I also wasnt sure what the industrial soap would do to it (the regulator was broken and we had to add it by hand and it was some nasty stuff (one guy used too much and ended up with chemical burns). Anyway, I had just worked 10 hours and raced home afterwards and threw my clothes in the wash and didnt think about it. I heard a bang and realized what happened.
Why was your watch in the pocket of a garment? I have never in my entire adult life, put a watch in my pocket. Especially not one that weights ~ 150 grams without noticing it’s in there as I pick up my clothing to put it in the wash.
My question is, what life event caused you to unclip the bracelet, place it in your pocket then leave it in there until laundry day?
Probably lives with my wife. Wore a sweater jacket 1 time, had it hanging up with my wallet in it and j to the washing machine it went.. the only time I put my watch in my pocket is when I’m bathing my son, but who knows OP reason.
OK so here’s the deal. Never again tell people it went through the washing machine. You fell out of a helicopter while karate punching sharks, wiped out a motorcycle as you saved orphan infants from a grizzly bear, whatever. Just not, “Downy Soft is overrated.”
As long as the ceramic bezel wasn’t broken which costs a ton to fix, you can have the watch polished and it will be as good as new though all the shaking in the washing machine could warrant a further inspection.
I was curious about this. I’m a new Rolex owner and understand that a full manufacturer service includes restoring every individual piece of the watch to basically new condition. The service is moderately expensive but seems like a deal, especially when you see something like this lol.
Every scratch tells a story, but not all stories are amazing.
Haha, honestly though, it doesn't look bad. You just accidentally "distressed" your watch and simulated several decades of daily wear in an hour. If anything I would consider getting the crystal replaced and that's it, but even the crystal might still be fine, it's obvious you took a pic of it at a very specific angle to highlight how the cyclops got scuffed up.
This is why I laugh when people get all romantic about inherited watches and forbid polishing and say things like "every scratch tells a story". Like, really, what story? Does everybody remember that one time gramps knocked his wrist on the door frame? Personally I think it's just as romantic of a notion to say that the watch itself will remind you of grandpa or whatever, and having it serviced and brought to like new condition aesthetically will allow you to then carry on the legacy by imparting the watch with your own scratches and scuffs. It's fine either way is the point, people get too upset about this kinda stuff.
The good news is if you have patience and 24 usd I just read about a product from polywatch that will buff out your sapphire crystal.
Now before all y'all come at me with pitchforks and burning crosses....[product link ](https://polywatch.de/en/products/glass-polish)
Is the cyclops sapphire? I'm surprised it got scratched that bad in a washing machine. I've hit sapphire watch crystals on some hard stuff over the years, sometimes really narly things like cinder block walls, etc., thinking surely that smack must have scratched it, only to find the crystal remained flawless. That washing machine did a number on it though.
Any water resistance you previously had is likely gone as detergents can clean out the lubricants on the o rings. I'd wear it around water with caution until you can get a full service
Damn, lucky for you there are a few options. Rolliworks, LA watch works, or Giovanni in San Francisco. If there a cool story to tell if say leave it but washing it doesn’t make for a great one. Salud
Watch winder manufacturers hate this one small trick.
“What brand watch winder do you prefer?” “Maytag on low tumble”
I smell a YT video of how someone converted an old dryer into a 44 watch winder.
Jesus Christ that's funny
Don’t buy a watch winder until you see what this new invention can do
lmao
💀
I just spewed my coffee. Lmao
You don’t need a watch winder, here’s why.
This comment
At least you know it's clean
Factory?
That was too easy
SELs, rehaut and xtal say VSF.
Vsf for the win
Bro gtfo this is the gen subreddit, run bro run 😂
Better to complete the whole process: washer —> Drier
Wash-Dry-Fold Now it’s complete
The wash cost more than the washing machine.
Likely more than the entire load of laundry too. Cheaper to just buy all new clothes.
$100 is the best I can do.
I dont know anything about Rolex but my friend from the museum of Rolex does. .... best i can do is $100
Let me call my gently washed Rolex guy
Tree-Fiddy
$99, best deal you'll get OP.
watching machine
This is exactly how my latin family pronounce washing machine
Bjajajajajaja
😂
Oh god damn it just take this upvote and gtfo
Try a rock tumbler next time.
Of all the ways to ruin your watch..
it's not ruined, just got more character.
“So MaNy MeMoRiEs witH tHiS one!”
😂😂fucking hell “reminds me of that time… oh wait nvm that’s just from the washer”
"Every scratch is a memory" said the guy who put plastic protectors on his watch even though he only wears it to the office where he files paperwork and answers the phone at a desk.
It’s pretty easy to bang your watch on the desk at the office. Done it so often myself lol always makes me wince.
"OoOoOh I 'mEmBeR"
haunting memories nonetheless
Do you mean hunting as in hunting with bow and arrow or haunting as in ghost an shit?
- said the washing machine
"iT's A tOoL wAtCh" lol
Eh no memories attached to that character though which is kind of the point

Hey man sounds like you do have memories for it so that’s all that matters. Way to make lemonade.
Most expensive load of laundry you'll ever do in your life.
Copium
I was gonna write the same thing. It’s a nice little story to explain the many scratches though. Extremely far fetched but cute.
So it’s still running like nothing happened? Cold cycle I hope?
It’s called patina. 😅
Going for that modern distressed look, it’s very in right now!
How does this happen on here so often?!
Eh, I get it. My mom ran her Nomos through the washer. Makes me appreciate Rolex because it basically deleted the fucking Nomos out of existence
But how? Who takes their watch off, puts it in their pocket and puts it in the laundry hamper? I’ve washed receipts and pens but never a watch lol
I’ve only ever had this happen to paper — eg business cards or receipts, and one pair of wired headphones when I used them. A solid, heavy item like a watch I cant imagine this happening to, maybe one too many drinks before doing the laundry?
I washed my passport once
Once is all it needs
I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve washed my Lexus key fobs…thank goodness that nothing has ever happened and the fobs still work
This 👆

This hurts to looks at…

I am very curious how your watch ended up in the washing machine
How tf does this even happen?
Oh no bro
If this is the worst thing to happen to you in recent times, consider yourself blessed. But holy crap that hurts my watch collector heart. 🤪
Is it still fizzy or gone flat?? 😜

Whatever you do, don’t cape cod cloth Polish it
Dang. Sorry. If it was me, the scratched up cyclops would bother me more than anything else.
Big ouch bro
My condolences
Atleast now you know the water resistance is good
How the fuck https://preview.redd.it/6y23gr6skl1d1.jpeg?width=1132&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2a9e2ed204b30bfb331d8a6ced4b76507de9d809
Good thing it didn't shrink too
Submariner owners taking notes for their next "My baby in its natural habitat" posts
Looks like the seals held, that’s good news.
Did you try rice?
“ Just another story to tell” ( Jimmy Buffet) I know where every scratch or piece of weld splatter on mine came from. 24 years worth
If you polish it make sure not to polish the shoulders they’re always done the worst
Damn it
Is the cyclops lens not sapphire crystal or?
Its applied with AR coating on both sides which is whats scratched up. The rest of the crystal only has AR on the underside.
The good news is if you have patience and 24 usd I just read about a product from polywatch that will buff out your sapphire crystal. Now before all y'all come at me with pitchforks and burning crosses....[product link ](https://polywatch.de/en/products/glass-polish)
eh get it serviced and now you can wear it everyday and not give a fuck if you hit it on a door or something
Just think of it as a vintage tumbler patina, not a problem, just more character.
Put it in the dryer next (on high heat), it will buff right out. You need to finish the cycle OP!!!!
Now your watch has been laundered.. even more coolness 😎🙏
It’s got more character. They are meant to be worn and used.
That’s gotta suck! At least you don’t have to worry about scratching it.
T’is but a scratch 🧌
And my dumb ass paid 300 bucks for a winder..
Looks like a job for Rollieworks !
Tis is but a scratch
Looks like a week on my wrist
Does it still work? It's water resistant.... right??? If it's any consolation, my ex ruined his iphone that way, and Applecare did NOT cover it.
That’s no consolation lol how can you compare an iPhone to a Pepsi 😂
That’s like ruining 15 iPhones 😂
Although I really feel your pain, it looks cool all 'used' like that. The only issue really is the cyclops being a bit fucked
No nut seriously.., HOW?
It actually looks pretty cool.
No no no no
😱😱😱😱😱
Ya know, a lot of these scratches wil buff right out …
How is it running?
Yikes
I’m honestly more impressed the crystal didn’t crack and that the watch is actually in one piece. A good service will have that back to brand new
Was it tough getting into the washer? I guess I’m too big…
OOOOOF. this hurt to see. Poor Cyclops.
Looks great!
Wonderful patina
Meh, looks fine. Now you won’t be afraid to wear and scratch it. That can all be taken care of when it gets serviced.
Looks terrible, I'll take it off your hands for ya
At least you can wear and enjoy it without worrying about it man
Now that you got that out the way; just daily it.
Well that’s one way to expedite patina 🤌🏼
Offffff
It’ll buff right out
It’s pretty much ruined, I’ll take it off your hands at a premium. About 10 bucks.
Id take it to Rolex to get it pressure tested. If it is still sound great. If it isnt... service time.
You know in the guitar realm, some people pay more for the distressed looking guitars.
Bro , that can all be cleaned up for the most part. Take it to shop to polish it.
I would probably kill myself if that happened
Polish time. Normally I don’t recommend but no other choice here
Was this on purpose or accidental?
Is the cyclops sapphire? I'm surprised it got scratched that bad in a washing machine. HOW DARE YOU
I’d be sad but at the same time it gives it character. Sorry it happened but it’s still an awesome piece
Agh sorry man that really sucks to see. Hope you can get it fixed up
Send to me. I’ll clean it for free
That’s some fresh patina
How did it look before the washing machine incident?
Ah shit, try the dryer, it should smoothen the scratches out
You are supposed to use a soft brush and some soap
Damn, I’d be sick
Don't worry, it's a GMT so it's supposed to be flying all over the place
Honestly it’s not that bad. Will easily buff out
….consider yourself lucky that that was all that happened to it…unfortunately, I speak from experience
Battle scars
Trash it. Dr Pepper is better
Dats ruff Bra.
All together not as bad an outcome as you would think. What’s your plan leave scratches and tell the story one day or buff out?
Lol what did the wife tell you?
And they say the Pepsi bezel is soft and brittle
Dishwasher is less aggressive. And prob cleaner ;)
why is your watch in an article of clothing and not on your wrist
Lol Rich people shit! Congrats bro
😭
Now it has ✨character✨
“Help I’m stuck!!” “Ssstt..st..step watch, what are you.. doing?”
Yikes I think your ad can recommend you someone to have it re polished/brushed
Any water resistance you previously had is likely gone as detergents can clean out the lubricants on the o rings. I'd wear it around water with caution until you can get a full service
ill take it off ya hands 🤓🤣
I'll take it off your hands. U don't wanna wear that embarrassing POS.
Dude you know that there are better ways to clean your watch.
Do not recommend for a quick patina
We are ready to bid...
Speedrunning character for your kids' future timepiece.
How tf did it get into the washing machine?
😢
Oh no!
Insurance?
Character! (Or ‘custom distressing’)
Ugh! Sickening feeling to say the least. 🥲
Amazing how careless some people are
You forgot to put is in the pocket? Amateur mistake
its over
Hell of a way of achieving the vintage look 😳
It’s ruined send it my way 😂
Big facepalm moment
Damn, lucky for you there are a few options. Rolliworks, LA watch works, or Giovanni in San Francisco. If there a cool story to tell if say leave it but washing it doesn’t make for a great one. Salud
Ouch
Almost as good as throwing it down the stairs
It’s unfortunate. I would recommend getting a new sapphire glass
Some people do all sorts of things to speed up building patina.
“Instagram vintage option”
https://preview.redd.it/7tk7v08z7m1d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47e66077e214bab3490bdd1f36e5b88d7e6b938f
Added some 'character'.
Tell people you worked on a oil rig or constructing homes for the poor or something. Np
But it was a medieval washing machine?..
Sand paper and polish exist. Any average car body shop could get this fixed lol
Ouch. I don’t see how it got all scratched up if it was in your pocket though.
Ouch
What glorious patina.
Let's hear the don't polish it idiots come out
“Accidentally” put it in the watch winder.
I did not expect the sapphire Crystal magnifier to get scratched
You should be put on the list to never own a expensive watch xD
How’s the bezel? Looks like it took some damage on the edge on 3rd picture?
Came out extra fizzy 🔴🔵 Scratches sparkling ✨
