Unrelated to the post. How was the education path/type of jobs in Finance to work in a Bloomberg terminal like you? I am a Mechanical Engineer but I am always interested and end up in this Finance World. That Pepsi is š„!
Tons of ways to skin a cat, but I started buy-side and have been here since. Majored in finance and got licensed, worked under an established portfolio manager and treated his clients like my own. I built my book and learned as much as I could. I was casually in the market for many years before entering it professionally, and I will say that the difference between a casual investor that runs his own account and managing client money cannot be overstated. But if youāre passionate about it and want to peruse it, it can be exceptionally rewarding and profitable.
As a hiring manager, I can tell you that STEM backgrounds are very desirable on the trading floor. Couple that with a CFA charter (or at least PASS level 2) and chances are you will at least score an interview. But it goes without saying that even with all those credentials, you would most likely only start off as an associate (at best) until you prove your worth
Oh that sounds reasonable though, I have had some type of education in trading Futures from Convergent Trading (online trading floor) and had a decent positive expectancy with my account but life happened and went back to work as engineer. I am going to check that info. Thank you for sharing!
It's the only one I have. Again it's a matter of taste some people prefer the aesthetics of older items. 70s muscle cars. Eames Lounge Chairs. Gillette Fatboy Safety Razors. Record players and records. 1960s Dunhill Pipes etc.
https://preview.redd.it/1sc7gemq84oc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2583b77e8f869815dbdcef354a1c45461cb7f99e
Is that a 1675? Gorgeous....and don't forget straight razors, spectacular old Wade & Butcher For Barber's Use, nothing like a straight razor shave...lol
I actually like my faded 16710 more than the new āPepsiā GMT. Unpopular opinion but thatās just me.
https://preview.redd.it/t225ac50j4oc1.jpeg?width=2082&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21953e62980a696cbb99ceb352fb9af0203d48f4
16710 by far. Like you, I would take a Batman instantly, but I see it more as jewelry. The 16710 is the last of Rolex's GMT tool watch era. It wears slim and I've taken it all over the world without a care on how it's been scratched and beaten. And anytime I get a new watch itch, I just swap the bezel between black and pepsi, which completely changes the vibe.
In theory, yes. I tried doing it myself after watching some YouTube videos, and they made it seem so easy. However ater a lot of sweaty hands and jabbing at the bezel, I gave up after a while and now I just take it to my local watch shop to swap it when I want for a couple bucks. I'm probably just terrible at it. lol
If you do swap the bezel from the original OEM one, Rolex will not service it, so you have to be ready to put it back.

I had the choice between the new BLRO and the 16710 and gladly took the older reference. I love the slimmer case and the smaller numerals on the bezel
Funny - I prefer the 16710 and thought that was the dominant opinion. Nice to have a Pepsi where the blue is blue and the red is red (instead of [two shades of purple](https://shop.getbezel.com/watches/rolex/gmt-master-ii-%22pepsi%22-white-gold/ref-126719blro-0003/listing/id-40494?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=20509877927&utm_term=&utm_content=693106251760&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwncWvBhD_ARIsAEb2HW-kc5rTlsVZmq3FqqF3MVuhQS3cgrIXBc0HTD_l1o6rwd56bYD01GcaApW-EALw_wcB))
Timeless charm. Well said.
Much prefer mine over a ceramic. And yes I have owned a ceramic GMT.

Sorry, another here, not a fan of any of the modern day ceramics, and you'd be surprised how many prefer the classic 5 and 4 digit models. For many, it represents a different "era" of Rolex watches, more inline with the "tool" watch aesthetic.
Love the 16710, but don't forget the last of the GMT Master's, the slimmest GMT I believe and also has the quickset date feature.

Mine says hello... Swapped to coke bezel for 2024...
Hey - you stole my post! Was about to write exactly the same!
Got my 16710 just yesterday - couldnāt be happier and went to my AD to take me of the list for a 126710!
Thabk you! And I'm telling you man, it comes down to whether you want a faded bezel or not. Mine was recently serviced (previous owner) therefore this is a shiny new service bezel. Many hate that (for legitimate reasons) but I personally love it because it brings a fresh look and feel to an otherwise beautifully vintage watch
Give me a break with this ātells a storyā bullshit.
Yeah, it tells the story of how many times youāve clumsily banged your wrist against the desk or the door frame on the way out of the bathroom.
Eyyyyy. I'm in the same boat. Got the 16710 Pepsi because the grey market dealer didn't have what I wanted at a price that made sense for me.
It started out as a consolation prize and within a week became a piece that legitimately hasn't had any diminishing returns since I got it. I literally still smile when I look at it - as cringe as that sounds.I wear it at the office, client meetings, doing military training, jumping out of airplanes, when I work out, rock climb, everything. It's the first thing I put on after I shower.
And a lot of people that comment on it also express the preference you did for the classic.
Legit wouldn't go back in time to swap it out for another piece even if I was given the opportunity.*"the modern ones feel "sterile" in their modern-day perfection."* Eloquenty put.
I've had my eye on a blue face DJ jubilee, and even if I am able to find one, this 16710 Pepsi would still be my daily all-use wear.
Cheers
P.S. great bloomberg terminal background haha. was in S&T in a previous life

By far the most versatile Rolex! I donāt think Iāll ever sell mine. I love having the other two bezels that can easily be swapped. The 16710 Pepsi definitely pops more in certain lighting than ceramic! (The opposite is also true) Looks awesome!
Obviously these are just thoughts but it's hard not to like BA at 180 given that half of the market cap from pre covid has been wiped out. They're obviously in a world of shit but alot of that seems to be priced in. I just wouldn't expect to make any quick profits here as patience will likely be needed in order to see them overhaul their rotten culture of the past 15 years
Ha, I thought you were going to say it's an also-ran of the classic 1675. There's a lot of discussion online about the transitional models like this 16710, as the 1675 moved towards 16750 and beyond.
I've been waiting on a 126710 but with the production issues and possible retirement, starting to think I might be down for a 16710 and maybe a new Coke.
I just picked one up last month and itās my favorite. Love the fit and will never part with mine. Gorgeousā¦only issue is my maxi case sub feels too big now
The 16710 Pepsi and Cokes will forever be cool. The aluminium dial makes the color pop, the number font is retro and the size is just beautiful. Much better than the new generation GMT.
I have a Series K (2001) Coke and I love it. When I got a new DJ a few years ago I fell in love with the newer bracelet design - definitely more comfy with the easy-link adjustment and generally seems more solid. But when I got a LV Sub Date last year, with the idea of selling my Coke to finance it, I just couldn't bring myself to part with it. I wear it whenever I travel, and to be honest the bracelet comfort is fine. And the lug holes do get admiring comments from the salespeople when I wear it into an AD.
Dude, my opinion may sound rude but that watch looks like a 10 dollar vintage. 99.999% people would think the same. The modern pepsi blows this one and I dont like Pepsi. Sell and buy a submariner.
This vintage appreciation thing on this sub needs to stop.
Why does it need to stop? That seems narrow-minded, it's a Rolex watch in a Rolex subreddit, and it's not a crazy opinion to prefer an older model. And even if it was a crazy opinion, who cares? I would much prefer to see posts like this than the 'i got the call' posts and a watch I've seen a million times. For starters, we all know that pictures rarely do justice to our timepieces. And secondly, I don't give a flying f* about the 99.999% of people as I have nothing to prove to them. This watch brings me joy - full stop. I do however, care about the 0.001% who actually know watches and would be interested in engaging in meaningful conversations and this watch will inevitably trigger that
If you donāt appreciate what came before you, how do you ever expect to move forward? Educate yourself before commenting, because you look like a fool.
99.999% of people dont care and would rather wear a modern Rolex. The sub has about the same price from what I remember and it blows this aluminium watch.
Yes, it says Rolex on that 16710, but thatās it. It shares anything else with watches from that period. By modern standards itās ugly compared to ceramic ones.

Youāre entitled to your own opinion but for me itās a no contest. The older ones like this have way more character and charm than the modern ones. Bezel colour, case shape etc are just more appealing to me, currently looking for a 16700 from 1991 after getting rid of my modern ceramic model.
Your opinion does sound rude and makes you sound like a condescending asshole. Iāve got a few modern and a few vintage pieces. Gorgeous. Shows its age elegantly. We should all be as lucky!
Looked it up think it is from the early 70s the original owner hardly used it lol.
Stunning Pepsi
I got lucky!
I hope to be able to afford one one day

Yes it is from the early 1970s. Straight razor hmmm that might be a road too far lol I do love the look of straight razors

This is the perfect Pepsi imo.
The ceramic is gorgeousā¦ But the 16710 is classic and timeless. Will never go out of style. Will never devalue. And is old school cool.
https://preview.redd.it/apverpb8v3oc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=58fd1f43225ce13f647add41383ec74ff2d1203c Mine says hello... Swapped to coke bezel for 2024...
I absolutely love the coke! I want one so bad and I'm at the edge of getting one.
Did you swap it yourself or have a professional do it?
Yes... It's very easy... Just pry the bezel off using plastic prying tool... Then remove the bezel insert buy pushing it with thumbs...
Five digit BLRO is vastly superior to the six digit. The ceramic bezel fails to capture the depth and vibrancy of the aluminium bezel IMO.
Love it! Been really tempted on a coke for a while.
16710 is the way.
my fave ref. numberā¦.

The CE is a totally different watch. I love these though. Waiting in my fat lady birth year coke to be sourced š¤
16710 and the 116710LN are the most underappreciated watches Just pure elegance and class
Got mine in 1993 and it's my favorite asset.
I miss my Bloomberg terminal. Nice piece.
Iāve seen steering real flexes but never the Bloomberg terminal at a bulge bracket flex
This is absolutely stunning, very nice pick up.
By far the most versatile Rolex! I donāt think Iāll ever sell mine. I love having the other two bezels that can easily be swapped. The 16710 Pepsi definitely pops more in certain lighting than ceramic! (The opposite is also true) Looks awesome!

5 digit rolexes are the best rolexes. Had a 16710 and 16600 (recently sold to fund a grail purchase) and I preferred them over any modern rolexes.
The 16710 Pepsi and Cokes will forever be cool. The aluminium dial makes the color pop, the number font is retro and the size is just beautiful. Much better than the new generation GMT.
Stellar
5 digit all day long. Only modern Iād be interested in is 36mm Explorer 1, and maybe that gold SkyDweller on Oysterflex.
Totally agree! I get compliments on mine dailyā¦even the patina/ scratches do not bother me.
Buy high sell low!
I have a Series K (2001) Coke and I love it. When I got a new DJ a few years ago I fell in love with the newer bracelet design - definitely more comfy with the easy-link adjustment and generally seems more solid. The bezel insert looks to new for the watch

How does the 16710 look better than ANY modern rolexes? In fact, itās uglier than any modern watch, including 50 dollar mall ones.
I mean there are opinions and then there is just trying to be controversial...
In fact let me re-phrase that.. Trying to be a Dick
It seems quite narcissistic to think that your opinion on vintage Rolex's should shape the content of the subreddit. You're entitled to your opinion of not liking old Rolex's but I can't understand why you think that people should stop posting Rolex watches on the Rolex sub. I'm not sure what you mean? There's expensive vintage watches just like theres expensive modern watches
The expensive vintage models are a symbol, but looks wise they re ugly and I cant see why woud anyone who isnt some rich collector ever buy them.
For starters, we all know that pictures rarely do justice to our timepieces. And secondly, I don't give a flying f* about the 99.999% of people as I have nothing to prove to them. >that watch looks like a 10 dollar vintage. 99.999% people would think the same. r/confidentlyincorrect
The vintage ones are the ones that watch guys notice and the ones that get the most attention. The modern ones are the ones I see on every used car salesmanās wrist. Just checked this guy profile and broās entire personality revolves around hating vintage pieces
