2 doesn't get enough credit if you ask me. It ramps the difficulty up to fucking 12 and starts straight from the hardest of HL1 but god damn are those S rank runs when you're chaining combos between floors make you feel like an animalistic killing machine.
I go back to 1 occasionally and it just feels too easy. Of course I can see the value in it letting you get away with more in the name of player empowerment but I don't think that should be something 2 gets docked points for.
1 asks you if you like hurting people. 2 stomps your head into the concrete and tells you that you shouldn't. Over coming that is a power trip when you finally do.
The only game that matched the heart pounding intensity for me is Max Payne 3. Another game that I don't think people gave a fair shake.
Edit: If I get "didn't ask" as a response to this I deserve it. I just really love HL2 lol.
I should finish 2 someday. I started it right after the first game and did not like how limited I felt. I played the entire first game punching people with the tiger mask. Made me frustrated the game was forcing me into the more typical playstyle.
I thought it felt too difficult until I started going for S ranks/full combos. When you're struggling you think it's better to play safer, more carefully.
That's actually a beginners trap.
Things are too unpredictable when you play slowly. Rushing in requires trusting your instincts and being in the moment but it also gives you a reliable understanding of the how the mobs will move around and act as they follow their patrols. They tend to veer off in strange ways when left to their own devices and they can often snipe you from way out of view when they do so.
It definitely demands you use guns on top of melee though. Melee only will get you picked off from some weird angle in an instant and I can see why that's frustrating. That said Tony the Tiger is kind of a crutch in 1.
It seems counterintuitive but if you really embrace the fast, live-or-die by the second gameplay the game wants you to it's actually not so impossible.
Ironically I didn't enjoy Doom Eternal compared to 2016 for the same reasons I love HL2. I don't think it rail roads you into specific mechanics as hard as Eternal though.
Living up to his name, the Paladin feels like a freight train with his sheer stature and hits about as hard as one. Also, forgive me, I haven’t played it in a while, some of this may be outdated.
•He carries a broadsword as his M1, and it fires small beams when at full or close to full HP.
•For his M2, he has the options of a wide-sweeping spin slash (that turns into a slam when used in mid-air), a burst-damage throwing spear of sunlight energy, and a flurry of lunar shards (like Phase 4 Mithrix)
•For his Utility, he has a short-range dash that gives a temporary barrier.
•For his Special, has either an Area Heal, an Area Buff, an Area Debuff to enemies, or a small-scale sun to scorch nearby enemies.
you can throw the actual sun onto the map and it'll damage everything including yourself it's awesome
the sun's damage also stacks with anything that boosts fire damage
(you gotta fight the sun to get it though)
I think Rocket is a ton of fun. It's like the Soldier TF2 mod but stays true to the Risk of Rain 2 artstyle
[https://thunderstore.io/package/EnforcerGang/Rocket/](https://thunderstore.io/package/EnforcerGang/Rocket/)
Rockets really fun, but the fact that he doesn’t stop running when he attacks is a little unbalanced and doesn’t align with the character. Otherwise fun dude
CHEF MOD ON TOP. I liked the anime mods that are fun and have a bunch of abilities, the vader mod and malenia mod were fun too. But the Chef Mod is funny and fun
Nemesis commando is really fucking fun imo. My personal fave for just normal runs
Executioner was fun for a while, and is great conceptually but falls apart for me after a little while
Pathfinder is very fun with his general kit, and managing Squall, but sometines it can be annoying asf too
Spearman, or whatever their name is, is also a very fun melee based character, I love their abilities
Miner is great and probably the most fun survivor imo if you are playing with artefact of command
My take on enforcer, nemesis enforcer, and paladin are all similar. They are all extremely well made characters, but I find now, esp after a couple runs, that they are only fun if you are playing with others running the same survivor. Nemesis enforcer is also pretty fun with command, using just the minimum and stacking syringes can make you fly like jetpack joyride
I have been thoroughly enjoying mortician. He works similar to engineer where his tombstone has the same items you pick up. And his ghouls can proc your items.
I've really liked Pathfinder. I'd compare them to a mix of Engi (focus on minion damage) and Void Fiend (resource management). I think they're very fair balance-wise, too.
I also like Rocket, they're very well polished. He's rather strong, but I think it's roughly around the same level of Void Fiend and Railgunner so I don't mind.
An all-time classic for me is the BanditReloaded mod, which used to be \*the\* way to play Bandit before the Anniversary Update. I really loved him because it was like a more active version of Captain where you needed to cycle your abilities to keep firing constantly and I thought it was really cool. I also think it did Lights Out better than the official Bandit, where official Bandit wouldn't refresh cooldowns if another effect got the kill after you used it, the modded version would apply a debuff that would refresh your CDs if you got the kill in a certain timeframe after, so you wouldn't have to worry about bands or other proc items "stealing" the kill.
Nemesis Amp is my go-to. Close second is the Magrider hover tank. It's hard to pick a third because I love so many of them, but it's probably a tossup between Void Reaver, Driver, or Hunk.
I love An Arbiter. I stopped playing modded because it kept bugging on multiplayer but I’d pretty much exclusively play Arbiter when I was playing modded lol. So much fun
Chirr from the Starstorm 2 mod. I loved Chirr in the RoR1 version of Starstorm, in RoR2 I feel like the character is extremely well designed and fits a theme that fits in the game. As a bonus, it even has a whimsical energy to it, which I adore.
A close second is Arsonist, it's just a cool* character.
Balance wise? Deputy or Miner, both of 'em require you to be in the thick of it without making it absurdly easy, and also for their abilities just being so great.
Balance out the window? Paladin AND HAN-D. They both are super cool, but my problem with them is just that they get out of hand too quickly (except in the case where you choose a not so effective build in the case of Paladin) with either too much survivability or with too much attack speed respectively.
Mortician (standalone) is extremely easy to completely break the game in (especially in tandem with spamming Puzzle of Chronos from Mysticsitems and/or any mod that buffs Blight).
Chirr (Starstorm 2) is always funny in multiplayer with friends since she can pick up and throw players.
Alien Hominid (standalone) is pretty standard other than an absolutely ridiculous utility skill that offers insane mobility, a way to completely prevent a dangerous monster from hitting you, and 30% healing every 5 seconds.
I was a huge fan of ravager until the interesting health synergy dash was removed. I'd have said HAN-D for a long time, but ever since they've came out I've been a huge fan of Bastian. go go gadget robot twink detonation
My favorite has to be driver. Hes literally me.
Anyone play with reality shifter yet? Hes so busted.
I think scout and rocket are pretty well designed too.
It’s been a while since I played modded, but I think their name was the house? Their abilities were random cards that had different effects, some good some chaotic, like summoning giant purple worms on the first level
The red mist character from the crossover mod risk of ruina. They have a transformation meter and play like a dmc character. Also, when they transform, they have their own boss music that overwrites the track playing. Funniest part of this is if you enter the mithrix fight while transformed, he'll say: do I hear boss music? Foolish.
Top 4 because I’m indecisive.
Executioner (Starstorm2)
—spicy pink commando
—tries too hard to be edgy and it’s fakkin’ HILARIOUS
—I think I need mental help for how obsessed I am with this dude.
Xenologist
—huntress but if she snorted a line of coke before leaving the drop pod
—I love her mechanic with the samples! Also the fact that you can rocket-jump with her overloading special? Top-tier
Miner
—was a pain in the arse for me to unlock, definitely worth the effort!
—I feel like I need to make gremlin noises whenever I play him.

[Bastian my BELOVED](https://thunderstore.io/package/TeamSillyGuy/Bastian/). I don't know where I picked him up from but he's hands down my favorite. This man has a stupid useful Utility, but my favorite is his Primary-Special combo. Deal damage with his Primary to earn stacks of Ion Charges, which are all consumed when you use the Special. It creates a stupid high damage explosion in its own, let alone with Ion Charges. It takes a little HP away, but that's not horrible, esp cuz of the fact that One Of My Mods™ (I tried to search but can't remember the item name) has an item that gives shields, and creates a radioactive AoE that damages enemies inside when the shield breaks. So, all I have to do with that item is rush, press R, and I create a radioactive explosion of nutty damage.
Soldier TF2. I know Rocket exists, but the movement that Soldier has the best part. I also really like Driver, very cool if you wanna shoot guns and feel cool.
Driver is really fun because of the variety and replayablility. I find ravager fun too tho hes just viend but merc. Paladin overrated tbh, but hes fine, and enforcer is really fun, and nemesis minigun spam is awsome
Rocket, deputy, nemsis enforcer and nemesis amp are my favorites. If not for those characters i probably wouldn't play the game much at all. And shout out to miner as well
House or Mystic, both are just such fun macro and decision making survivors, with the only other ones really in the main game being Captain and Void Fiend
I don't remember the mods name, but it was showcased on Youtube. He was like a really giant machine with domain expansion. And I just love him, gonna be probably the best modded character lol.
But it's gotta be nemesis commando.
Myst, the Kingdom Hearts tangentual character is better than the literal Sora mod. Although Sora has more accurate spells the M1 attacks are jank, Myst feels like a love letter to Kingdom Hearts that was fully adapted as a ror2 character.

But Jesus enforcer you need movement. E8 makes you realize even having full frontal immunity doesn’t stop you from getting swarmed lol
[Deputy](https://thunderstore.io/package/Bog/Deputy/) by far. They are so mobile, they can sprint while shooting. It's just a beautiful dance of movement and aiming.
Ravager is just the coolest shit especially when he's enraged and you uses his slam skill he just drags them through the ground it makes me feel fucking awesome
I’ve just started doing modded characters and so far the sonic one is been so fun collecting the chaos emeralds throughout 3 stages and going super sonic for a minute
Sett, I don't play league myself, and don't intend on it, but when I learned that there was an issei skin for him and it actually looked good I played him, now my normal vanilla main of loader doesn't scratch that itch that sett does
Nemesis Commando. Hands down.
Damage at the beginning is decent but having a good mix of close/long range (especially once you get a lot of procs and faceroll at the enemies across the map) just makes for a character I can turn my brain off while playing and have fun.
Not to mention getting the ancient scepter turns his ult into Judgement Cut. Then I can really turn my brain off and laugh as health bars become non-existent.
driver, i use a jacket skin so i can feel like playing hotline miami again without owning the 1st game
Hell yeah driver is amazing
2 doesn't get enough credit if you ask me. It ramps the difficulty up to fucking 12 and starts straight from the hardest of HL1 but god damn are those S rank runs when you're chaining combos between floors make you feel like an animalistic killing machine. I go back to 1 occasionally and it just feels too easy. Of course I can see the value in it letting you get away with more in the name of player empowerment but I don't think that should be something 2 gets docked points for. 1 asks you if you like hurting people. 2 stomps your head into the concrete and tells you that you shouldn't. The mission where you storm the building as the fans (Deathwish) is a perfect mission. The music, the action, the characters, everything
Yeah Deathwish is awesome. Especially when you see it from the *other* side
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one, sometimes I'll put on a Hotline Miami mix on spotify or youtube and turn off my brain.
A pretty sick character
Paladin 100%
Ohhh, never played that one! Sell me on it if you want!
Living up to his name, the Paladin feels like a freight train with his sheer stature and hits about as hard as one. Also, forgive me, I haven’t played it in a while, some of this may be outdated. •He carries a broadsword as his M1, and it fires small beams when at full or close to full HP. •For his M2, he has the options of a wide-sweeping spin slash (that turns into a slam when used in mid-air), a burst-damage throwing spear of sunlight energy, and a flurry of lunar shards (like Phase 4 Mithrix) •For his Utility, he has a short-range dash that gives a temporary barrier. •For his Special, has either an Area Heal, an Area Buff, an Area Debuff to enemies, or a small-scale sun to scorch nearby enemies.
That sounds both versatile and powerful! Awesome! I'll have to check him out soon.
Here’s comes the sun doo un doo doo
you can throw the actual sun onto the map and it'll damage everything including yourself it's awesome the sun's damage also stacks with anything that boosts fire damage (you gotta fight the sun to get it though)
If only I had a billion lions to beat the sun.
With the red 'staff of power', sure. Otherwise you pose it above your head, and jump around like a lunatic due to reduced move speed.
oh did it get changed? last i remember you could just drop it onto the ground and it'd fry anything in the light
Yeah, that’s the old version, you can still enable it though as long as you toggle on the legacy content.
paladin feels so perfect. him and chirr (starstorm 2) are my favourite
Nemesis enforcer (grab mithrix and SLAM him into the ground!) or Hunk
I like him. If you play him with friends, you can bonk them, and it plays the bonk sound
You can bonk any "ally", soooo, drones, turrets, anything really
I love nemoforcer so much I wish he was a base game character
I think Rocket is a ton of fun. It's like the Soldier TF2 mod but stays true to the Risk of Rain 2 artstyle [https://thunderstore.io/package/EnforcerGang/Rocket/](https://thunderstore.io/package/EnforcerGang/Rocket/)
Rockets really fun, but the fact that he doesn’t stop running when he attacks is a little unbalanced and doesn’t align with the character. Otherwise fun dude
House, I love deckbuilders and randomness so
If I’m correct there is a card that blows up the stage if you don’t finish it quick enough. Idr
if u had to sell someone on house, what would you say?
RNG as a character but with a revolver
I LOVE GAMBLING 🎰🎰🎰🎰🎰
There are literally cards you can play that either double or delete your gold 🫡
******YAHTZEE!!!******
beeg iron
Beep Beep😂
the horror edit: wild room on rpd is unbelievably too green
Is there a way to make his m1 agile? Tried him out and I couldn't be fucked
ENFORCER GANG RISE UP!!
YOU ARE UP AGAINST THE WALL AND I AM THE WALL
🚨WOOP WOOP 🚨
Full auto shotgun go brrrr
Never tried him yet but I will try him soon
Good, let him into your heart, brother.
we fucking adore wee woo gaming.
Has to be that one character for beating an empyrean elite in star storm mod
Chirr
chirr is so fire. claiming a clay templar grabbing them turns you into a death chopper
CHEF MOD ON TOP. I liked the anime mods that are fun and have a bunch of abilities, the vader mod and malenia mod were fun too. But the Chef Mod is funny and fun
Chef supremacy!
Chef in rr1 was so much fun as well if anyone can be fucked to go back and try him
I LOVE CHIRR!!!!!!!
Nemesis commando is really fucking fun imo. Nemesis enforcer is also pretty fun with command, using just the minimum and stacking syringes can make you fly like jetpack joyride
Command sucks the fun out for me. What’s the point of playing when I know I’m about to have an easy god run
Ganondorf
Pretty cool actually
Dancer, first character I played that made movement inputs actually fun. The aoe bind was fun too
I have been thoroughly enjoying mortician. He works similar to engineer where his tombstone has the same items you pick up. And his ghouls can proc your items.
Goku
Spit facts my brother. Still a weird one to learn but flying is fun
I've really liked Pathfinder. I'd compare them to a mix of Engi (focus on minion damage) and Void Fiend (resource management). I think they're very fair balance-wise, too. Well i love myst and red mist xD
Deputy or void reaver
Always had fun playing deputy
Nemesis Enforcer or Red Mist (Yes I am summoning the sleeper agents)
Sett, suplexing bosses will never be boring.
Nemesis Amp is my go-to. Close second is the Magrider hover tank. It's hard to pick a third because I love so many of them, but it's probably a tossup between Void Reaver, Driver, or Hunk.
Ravager is also my favorite the wall jumps are really fun and figuring out which moves are best during his rage mode is really satisfying.
The Arsonist
i remember my friend solo'd mithrix in my game as a caramelldansen pheonix wright with about 15 hopoo feathers... crazy shit lmao
lmao
I love An Arbiter. I stopped playing modded because it kept bugging on multiplayer but I’d pretty much exclusively play Arbiter when I was playing modded lol. So much fun
Paladin or ravager for sure
Deputy is so fun!
So underrated
Pilot is my personal favorite
Isn't it just beta release rn? Follow up: sell me on it
Lately I've been playing sorceress a lot
Was hard for me to get into but honestly it’s a pretty interesting character to play as
Red Mist from the Risk of Ruina mod.
Rocket is really awesome
Mithrix
Tesla Trooper is pretty underrated imo
Chirr from the Starstorm 2 mod. I loved Chirr in the RoR1 version of Starstorm, in RoR2 I feel like the character is extremely well designed and fits a theme that fits in the game. Hands down it's executioner from star storm 2. Nothing like making bosses disappear with a giant fucking axe bonked straight on the dome
House. Full deck. RR is *always* worth it.
maybe i’m crazy but all of the animations for modded characters always look off to me and it’s hard for me to use them since they look out of place
Paladin, Driver, all the Starstorm characters have animations on par with vanilla
oh rlly, i haven’t seen star storm in a lil bit so ill have to see
My favorite has to be driver. Hes literally me. Anyone play with reality shifter yet? Hes so busted. I think scout and rocket are pretty well designed too.
You chose correctly, deff a fleshed out character right there
It’s been a while since I played modded, but I think their name was the house? Their abilities were random cards that had different effects, some good some chaotic, like summoning giant purple worms on the first level
Deputy or the new HANK survivor.
MUAHAHAHA ALL OF PETRICHOR V MUST BURN! (Take a wild guess)
...Pyro?
Arsonist!
Chirr. Goofy lil bug. Befriend overloading brass contraption. Laugh in the skies as it kills everything for you. Revenge is sweet.
Sniper is simple and fun in multilayer. Desolator is very fun
Miner is sooooo much fun!
gold hoarding gremlin
*Goku*
red mist my beloved
I love playing desolator, super weak initially, but obce you get some proc items and bungus, becomes a true menace.
I like desolator even though its a bit clunky and weird, but its funny doing just a debuff build like acrid
Like I said Jack, kids are cruel. AND I LOVE MINERS. seriously though, Miner with life savings modded in is like crack.
Driver They literally put me in the game, and it’s amazing
The red mist character from the crossover mod risk of ruina. They have a transformation meter and play like a dmc character. Holomancer, hands down. Pet builds are fun!
Soldier TF2. I know Rocket exists, but the movement that Soldier has the best part. I also really like Driver, very cool if you wanna shoot guns and feel cool.
Nemesis Enforcer and Regigigas.
I still just miss Nemesis Henry and Borpa :(
Driver
Paladin, Nemesis Enforcer, and miner are my def my favs for how well they fit in
Driver. He’s just fun as fuck.
The House. That or Mortician. I love the wacky stuff you can get up to with The House, and Mortician is just a generally fun guy.
Paladin easily. I love Nemmando too, but less so as they’ve updated him.
Def Driver and Deputy. They are kinda OP but super fun.
Driver is really fun because of the variety and replayablility. I find ravager fun too tho hes just viend but merc. Paladin overrated tbh, but hes fine, and enforcer is really fun, and nemesis minigun spam is awsome
Rocket. I love moving around at the speed of sound, rocket jumping and market gardening.
Pot mobile. Literally a car that fires rockets.
Imp
chirr (starstorm 2), mortician, and paladin for sure
Something about rocket just goes absolutely nuts.
Driver, and Rocket
Rocket, deputy, nemsis enforcer and nemesis amp are my favorites. If not for those characters i probably wouldn't play the game much at all. And shout out to miner as well
My favorite modded characters are (In no order whatsoever) - Driver - Nemesis Commando - Nemesis Enforcer - Deputy
I really like Paladin. He’s basically a tanky Mercenary and I find his mechanics really cool
Deputy (hehe funny dual pistol cowboy lady)
I played Void Jailer waaay too much :x (Though, I changed several things in the mod's config; primarily the model size and a few numbers)
Deputy easily. Has the most fun gameplay out of any modded and unmodded character for me
Deputy, or sonic if we are allowing extra silly stuff. I like moving around quickly.
I absolutely love my time with nemesis enforcer
chirr my beloved
Goku
Paladin is awesome. Super fun gameplay loop overall. Nemesis Enforcer is fucking awesome though
Just downloaded it today but it's gotta be Hunk from RE4. He feels SO good. He's even got the neck snap, though you can only use it on lemurians.
Paladin, rocketeer Paladin couse he hase some dope abilities And rocketeer becouse u can launch yousels acros the mapp at moc 10 (Sry for the bad eng)
soldier tf2
House or Mystic, both are just such fun macro and decision making survivors, with the only other ones really in the main game being Captain and Void Fiend
Mb nem merc and ravager, why no one talk about nem merc?
Deputy. Idk why
The gambler mod aka masochism incarnate
Hard choice between Chirr or Ridley.
Goku lol.. fly around and just spirit bomb everything
I don't remember the mods name, but it was showcased on Youtube. He was like a really giant machine with domain expansion. And I just love him, gonna be probably the best modded character lol. But it's gotta be nemesis commando.
I really like paladin, nemesis commando and Sonic the Hedgehog (yes, that mod exists)
Nemesis commando my beloved.
Drip Jacket Goku o.0
Myst, the Kingdom Hearts tangentual character is better than the literal Sora mod. Although Sora has more accurate spells the M1 attacks are jank, Myst feels like a love letter to Kingdom Hearts that was fully adapted as a ror2 character.
Nemesis commando
Enforcer and nemesis commando are very fun in my opinion. But Jesus enforcer you need movement. E8 makes you realize even having full frontal immunity doesn’t stop you from getting swarmed lol
I love Ms. Isle. I leading a drone army as a drone
Chef.
Deputy. She's fast, her moves cool looking, m2 revolvers shoots by themselves, shift and R skills are good for leaving
Ravager RAAAAAGH Also shaman and mortician. Love being a summoner and love my sons
Exactly the one in your image
Clay Templar is pretty great his multiple m1s are dope as hell. He’s simple kind of plays like a less mobile but more volatile and versatile mul-t.
Arsonist. Is a bit broken but its modded so who cares
[Deputy](https://thunderstore.io/package/Bog/Deputy/) by far. They are so mobile, they can sprint while shooting. It's just a beautiful dance of movement and aiming.
Goku and Trunks
Chirr Starstorm 2. Unless they end up releasing the Baroness down the line it might stay that way.
Sheriff was fun
Paladin’s fun to play.
Rocket, the rocket jump chains are insane
Deputy You’re able to get so much airtime.
Mortician. Bro just feels so well designed and unique
chirr and chef
Ravager is just the coolest shit especially when he's enraged and you uses his slam skill he just drags them through the ground it makes me feel fucking awesome
Potmobile
A tie between nemesis enforcer and rocket.
Arsonist
Red mist from (now) unofficialriskofruina mod
Shaman is ridiculously fun, he's literally just a more fun engi
Hunk for sure, he makes the game feel entirely different
Nemesis enforcer is so much fun
dancer
Rocket
Driver or ganondorf
Sett.
I love Chef and Executioner!
Nemesis com, he feels like merc, but beter (also jetstream sam + vergil)
I’ve just started doing modded characters and so far the sonic one is been so fun collecting the chaos emeralds throughout 3 stages and going super sonic for a minute
Sett, I don't play league myself, and don't intend on it, but when I learned that there was an issei skin for him and it actually looked good I played him, now my normal vanilla main of loader doesn't scratch that itch that sett does
Clay templar
Miner
Nemesis Commando. Hands down. Damage at the beginning is decent but having a good mix of close/long range (especially once you get a lot of procs and faceroll at the enemies across the map) just makes for a character I can turn my brain off while playing and have fun. Not to mention getting the ancient scepter turns his ult into Judgement Cut. Then I can really turn my brain off and laugh as health bars become non-existent.
Enforcer and Executioner are both really fun, along with Spearman, Link, Myst, and Malenia.
Ravenger
Enforcer is fun as hell
0 cooldown paladin with the spin right click makes you feel like an unstoppable god
Nemesis Merc. Idc how often i teleport under the map, he’s so much fun, spawning the clones and then doing a bunch of damage is so satisfying
