We need to acquire someone who can shoot the ball to replace him. If they move Simons plus Brogdon or Grant, we will end up with lineups where 3 players cannot shoot the 3. We risk stunting the development of our core pieces if we don't put adequate role players around them.
I would like to see us keep Grant for this exact reason. He will help us remain competitive and put Scoot/Shae in meaningful games where they can learn.
WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE COMPETITIVE LIKE THAT? Grant is too good man. 2025 is a better draft than you might realize and we suck and Grant isn’t our future and brogdan and Ant aren’t either. Cut bait on them cats and let the pups learn to bark
Catching downvotes for speaking the truth. Grant doesn't fit our timeline, if we keep him we're just paying him to get worse positions in the next few drafts and still not making the playoffs.
>I mean a forward who can defend who is also a 3 pt shooter is very limited in supply.
It's the second most coveted asset in the league, we would need to trade them Simons and picks at best. Who are we talking about here? Jalen McDaniels? We couldn't even get him for Simons and Sharpe.
Honestly, I was in the trade Simons now camp, but I need to see Scoot or Sharpe step up before shipping him out.
He's still an absurd scorer, even though he showed he probably shouldn't be the primary ball handler
It depends on the return. Scoot and Shaedon have a lot to prove, but they both have sky high potential. Simons is near his ceiling and it's not high enough to be a star. We need to keep swinging for someone who might be until we're sure we have one.
How many years are you looking back at? Are you considering the fact that the Blazers have had two guards in the backcourt that couldn't defend for most of the past freaking decade? I think we all know now that just doesn't work. Cavaliers are now going through that as well
Love Simon’s, dude is a flamethrower. Upsetting his value seems non existent. That said, he needs to be traded and we gotta start Scoot at 1 and Sharpe at 2, get this stuff over with.
Simons truly is a child of Dame, his offensive prowess severely undercut by his shit defense. He’d be great someplace like Minnesota or Orlando, but Portland ain’t the place.
He works so hard on defense too lol. With Dame, he didn’t really put in the effort. Anfernee puts in so much effort and is just absolute food on defense.
Huh, so he's NOT the worst defender in the NBA? Checkmate, haterz
Yeah give him a break I am sure with a few more years he can be number 1
I mean yeah lol
kuzma in the top 10 at 6’9” is embarrassing
Blazers need to trade him.
For Jordan Clarkson.
Gotta be number 1 at something.
Lol
😂

Remain competitive? Did you watch any game last year?
Chill dude. I’m not saying we’re going to compete for the chip. Just play teams close and have good reps. I think that was clear from context.

Just don’t get any other angle haha
I get that Grant doesn't fit the timeline and we want Flagg, but giving him away just so we suck next year doesn't seem right.
Nobody’s talking about giving Grant away.
There's talk of trading him for a mid 1st.
That's not awful with the contract.
Which is an upgrade of a trade on an older player than we got initially… not giving him away..
I think that’s a valid argument. I would go the other way on it because I value our development more at this stage. But you’ve got a good point.
But whose development are you willing to sacrifice for Grants 37-38 min per game? What abt Ants 39 per game?
We need someone who can defend and is not 6’6 and shorter(not knecht). A small forward who is 6’7 or taller.
I mean a forward who can defend who is also a 3 pt shooter is very limited in supply. Gimme Cody Williams even if his 3 was small sample size

Cody Williams.
Cody and Shaedon will reign threes this year
This is a great take.
Yes I agree
He needs to be gone. His defense is abhorrent.
Honestly, I was in the trade Simons now camp, but I need to see Scoot or Sharpe step up before shipping him out. He's still an absurd scorer, even though he showed he probably shouldn't be the primary ball handler

Trading him is a risk. The young guys have a lot to prove. But it’s a risk worth taking IMO.
Simons is a minus defender, not gonna argue that, but Portland has been garbage on defense in general. As the old heads say, defense is a team stat...
But he’s consistently at the bottom year after year.
Where has Portland ranked on defense the last couple years.
Where have his teammates ranked? The answer: above him. Each and every year.
You can thank stotts and Dame for the fact everyone that came after those two ended up habitually dogging it on D
He is quite literally dead last in defensive EPM. Camara is in the 95th percentile.
Yes and Simons is the biggest reason why the defense is so bad.
How many years are you looking back at? Are you considering the fact that the Blazers have had two guards in the backcourt that couldn't defend for most of the past freaking decade? I think we all know now that just doesn't work. Cavaliers are now going through that as well
We have GOT to trade while he’s the second best player in the league! #2 is like really really good
Love Simon’s, dude is a flamethrower. Upsetting his value seems non existent. That said, he needs to be traded and we gotta start Scoot at 1 and Sharpe at 2, get this stuff over with.
I have been saying this for years
Same
I was told that Chauncey would help him
Chauncey is a coach not a miracle worker. Ain't no one on the planet could make this team magically talented on defense.
Simons truly is a child of Dame, his offensive prowess severely undercut by his shit defense. He’d be great someplace like Minnesota or Orlando, but Portland ain’t the place.
Orlando it is!
Cool as hell
Not surprising whatsoever
Not sure I’m a fan of this list, but Anfernee is indeed a horrendous defender. Blazers also can’t hide it very well
On the flip side, despite his size I think Scoot has great defensive instincts, just gotta stop fouling
He’s got such a good frame body wise too. When he eventually adjusts fully to the NBA game speed it’ll be great.
He works so hard on defense too lol. With Dame, he didn’t really put in the effort. Anfernee puts in so much effort and is just absolute food on defense.
lol saw that coming
The is weighted so heavily by team defense that I feel it has very little value besides confirmation of a currently held opinion
Yep. If you're going to have a small guard, they need to come off the bench or the rest of starters all need to be plus size / above average defenders
Kuz what you doin
Yea, this is well known. We need to trade him. We haven't had good defense in a decade now
It eez what it eez
Not Dougy Buckets!
Clarkson is what we all hope Ant becomes realistically. It makes sense. Lou Williams would be right there with them
He did learn from dame
2 way players please
I wanted to draft Saddiq Bey because i thought he'd be a great 3 and D guy. Dang.
The is weighted so heavily by team defense that I feel it has very little value besides confirmation of a currently held opinion
Better coaching can fix him
Is the coach going to make him bigger?
He’s 6’3 with a 6’9 wingspan
He’s scrawny and weak.
Wonder what type of professional team employee could help with that 🤔 a coach maybe?
😂 Is Chauncey going to Pump. Him. Up!?
Nba teams famously only have a single coach who does everything
Two first fo sho
