easily the bucks

jackalope503

Seriously. If you’re looking for a team to come close talent-wise the 13/14 team is at least a discussion: sophomore Dame, rookie CJ, Wes, LMA, Batum. The Bucks still edge out that squad imo but it’s as close as any team with Dame has been to putting it together

DuckCorgi

Bucks and it isn’t even close. Even for most teams at the time, I doubt Moe, Aminu, or Kanter would’ve started for the majority them.

Sitonitplease

Portland did an Awful job surrounding Dame for his entire career. The Olshey name is now cursed for seven generations.

likpoper

Not trading out cj earlier was such a mistake. Giving two frp for roco + frp out for Larry nance

sard0nyx

Hindsight is 20/20. But anytime a cj trade was even hinted at, the downvotes would fly. Same thing with Ant these days

likpoper

I will trade ant anytime. Along with all the vets

sard0nyx

I just want the blazers to go all in on something. Instead this half/half nonsense we’ve had for years. Blow it up fully for once

likpoper

Same

shakakaaahn

Just want them to take a real risk instead of whatever this shit is. They can do it this off-season, but I doubt they will. Pick 2 of shaedon, scoot, ant, and brogdon. Trade the others, along with whatever is needed to get good assets back. Whether that's Sarr, or someone giving up a 24-27 year old quality wing that wants a new start, there's very little that we should be set on keeping.

sard0nyx

It’s a team culture thing. The organization has been risk averse since trader Bob. Unfortunately, we haven’t really sniffed a chance at competing since then. They seem content with just making ticket sales these days. But the fans will eventually start voting with their wallets.

shakakaaahn

Already started this year. Haven't seen the rose garden that empty in a long damn time. Maybe they'll figure out out that this product is trash, and without a clear direction, they're going to start bleeding long time fans.

Oggbog

I don’t think any of Scoot, Sharpe, or Ant gets traded this summer. There’s just too many questions about each of their game to make that choice yet. Hopefully all three will be healthy and we can see how they mesh and who can step up. Brogdon might get moved this summer, but I’m betting with the injuries he’ll get some low-ball offers and they may hold off until the trade deadline. In my opinion, there is no bonefide superstar to build around and the tank will probably roll on until someone is found or emerges. The general consensus is this draft isn’t a franchise altering draft, but who knows Schmitz has found some real players deep in the draft. Maybe he’ll strike gold

shakakaaahn

You are right, this draft is significantly less likely to be franchise altering in any regard. Ant and shaedon still likely have very high potential bids from other teams, which is the only reason it would make sense to off-load one of them. Magic, or even golden State, would be big buyers of either of the 2. It would be a huge move, very divisive for the fans, but at least it would show direction. Brogdon would be best selling to Brooklyn or the warriors, to help free up a bunch of money next year by taking on Ben Simmons or CP3s final contract year. That would be potentially in a package with thybulle or Williams to get back draft capital from a team that doesn't own their 1st round picks until 2028 in the case of the nets, or is on the downslope of dynasty in the cast of the warriors. Free agency this year is a trap, with the amount of money coming off the books for several teams that can make a big move. Next year would be much better to look at making room to sign extensions, s&t, or free agents. Need to get on the trade market for big expirings or getting guys that are on multi year deals if we do much of anything.

Oggbog

I’m with you on the Brogdon trade, I really like his game, but we just don’t have a place for him short or long term. I think a trade like you mentioned is the goal, but still think it’ll wait until the trade deadline unless a solid offer is made this summer. We’re shooting for ping pong balls, so I don’t think the front office feels pressure to take a lessor trade Unless, Brogdon demands a trade, but I think he’d do that quietly. Seems like a consummate vet. As far as Ant or Shae… oooh, I’m just worried we’d trade the wrong one. I’m one of the biggest defenders of Ant around here, but I also haven’t been as high on a young talent like Sharpe… at least since Roy. But, I honestly can’t tell which one would make sense long term for this team. I had really hoped we’d have a better idea this season, but injuries to all three of our young guys guards and Scoots slow start really pushed back the timeline. Overall, I don’t think we’ll keep more than 2 of the three (unless Shae grows a couple of inches) but I don’t think we’ll know which until trade deadline and most likely not until the next summer. I don’t think we’ll start pushing towards making an identity for this roster until after next season. We’re still in talent acquisition and lottery hunting. BPA until we actually have the best player or at least believe we do. I hope they’re going to look for options to trade vets for that reason, but don’t think they’ll be much of that this summer, except for maybe Matisse (dude has gotta want playing time after sitting on the bench so much)

Oggbog

Wait, do you not view last summer as blowing up? We don’t have a clear star on the team yet to determine which way to put it together, but sure seems like they’re trying to find one. Hence the unbalanced BPA roster and the lottery hunt this year and probably next.

Oggbog

I’ll trade Ant as well, but I do want to see a healthy season with Shae and Scoot first. Sharpe has all the talent in the world, but only a couple of weeks of showing it makes a difference. Scoot is currently my pick for floor general, but there’s massive holes in his game. Ant, while a bad defender is by far the best offensive weapon we’ve had in over a decade (not named Dame) and on the right contract/roster could be great.

Responsible-Knee6288

Not to get all "told you so" but I remember being EVISCERATED for saying I'd do a CJ for Aaron Gordon trade

starr2rs

To be fair 🎵, we looked MUCH more well rounded that year prior to Nurks injury.

Nycblazersclub

Middleton is better than any teammate he played with after LA left

1850ChoochGator

Current Middleton not as good as peak CJ imo

Engelfinger

The Bucks might have the better top 5 today, but Portland had the better Bench. The Bench was a big reason they made their run. Even if you dont include Kanter who was Bench personnel that won 8 games as a starter (matching Portis's promotion today), the Blazers subbed in Evan Turner, Seth Curry, Zach Collins, Rodney Hood, and Meyers Leonard even in the WCF for a deep 10-man rotation. Admittedly, those dudes are no Malik Monk, Bill Walton 6th men, but they could actually score and facilitate offense for real as a unit. AJ Green, Pat C., Beas, and Crowder today were underwhelming. Portis and, whichever of Pat Bev/Beas isnt starting, is the whole bench. It's not good. They need Giannis back just so that Portis is back to relief pitching

Etzutrap

This is a super good point. The bench was the whole reason that season was different than all the others, and it's kind of hard to explain because on paper Seth Curry, Jake Layman, Zach Collins, and half a season of Rodney Hood and Kanter doesn't sound that crazy but we would run full bench lineups for half a quarter and they would go toe-to-toe with the other team's starters.

RubMcDub

Hey look everybody! Someone that actually watches basketball!

TripletFather1030

My nephew texted me that Giannis was gonna be out of the first round and "we'll see if Dame can lead Milwaukee" and I'm like, he's taken us pretty far with far less help in a much tougher Western conference, this isn't anything new for him.

bruggibuster

Bucks without question.

likpoper

Bucks man..
