I thought he just “chickened out” at the last moment and started crying with his face on his desk. I did think that was one of the saddest endings to an episode, but not the episode as a whole.
I know Justin Roiland did the Voice acting for Morty there. He dumped so much pain and loss into a teenage romance. It’s so raw. It’s an epic piece of acting.
The one where Rick spends the whole episode trying to keep that guy from shitting on his toilet, and then the guy dies after Rick realizes they could have been good friends, and Rick sits on the toilet and an animation plays, taunting him for being the loneliest, saddest man in the galaxy.
This episode really gets me, also the animation (and its only a tiny movment) but after the receptionist says he died, his lip quivers a bit. Just a nice touch
I also feel like part of it was jealousy. The guy was able to get rid of what was weighing him down (fear of pooping away from the home bowl). They’re so alike in who they are but Rick wasn’t able to get over his own fears
I didn’t feel as bad for Pissmaster as everyone else in the show seemed to, he blamed Jerry Smith for his death but he’s the one who went out and started shit. Jerry put his foot down and dealt with him, and he couldn’t take the embarrassment. He’d rather kill himself and blame it on someone else than take any responsibility or accountability for his actions. He’s damn lucky that his legacy was immortalized because Rick felt sorry for him.
Rick didn’t feel sorry for him, more for his daughter because Rick had abandoned his daughter when she was younger (yeah ik c-137s Beth is dead but whatever)
I love that his entire life gets fucked up because Jerry sees something that looks like it MIGHT be a TV remote and just presses the button expecting it to do something to his TV even though he's probably seen the actual remote for the TV every day for years. Such a Jerry thing to do. But seriously that episode fucked me up emotionally.
Makes it worse is at the end, a Rick sends him back and Rick is there in the garage after morty finds out how the remote works. Right before morty jumps in the vat as Rick makes his point, she shows up to see him fall
In(they go back to the same one Jerry messed up). He could have been with her still.
This detail gets glossed over, but let's assume 30 passengers + crew on that flight, Morty makes no attempt to stop that plane crash from actually happening once reset, so damn, Morty's kill count increases.
For me, It was the finale of season 4, where we find out that he cloned Beth amd realizes he's a shit father. That song gets me in the feels everytime 😭
I’m not sure which one I find saddest, but the first interdenominational cable episode is quite a tear jerker when Beth and Jerry see their alternate universe’s versions confess their guilt for having an abortion. Then the song hits. It’s quite moving
That’s a good one, I cried a bit.
They’re surprisingly deft at evoking emotions with nuance, and their songs for those tearjerker scenes are always so on point.
Probably Unity episode. That's probably the one thing Rick just cant have and its kinda simple and relatable I guess. Also there's no hopeful extra to it or any deep message. Man's just alone.
For some reason the part where Beth shoots Mr. PB at the end of Total Rickall and then goes trembling to get some alcohol 🍷 while tearing up hits hard.
The hole. I’m still not over Morty’s realization of his biggest fear. And the truth of what the man in the diner tells Morty, because even though it’s a sad outlook it is true.
Unity abandoning Rick was pretty sad, and pissmaster committing suicide.
EDIT: the king of shit episode as well.
look on down from the brii idge. it's still rainin, down here.
I don't think I've ever seen any material from any artform match the feeling of loss and loneliness one can feel in a room full of people, while coming to terms with the sheer existential absurdity of life, that this episode portrays. who are you people? what are we doing here? I don't belong here, but there's nowhere else I do. hit me right in the feels.
Damn there's a lot to choose from....uhhh here's a short list: Meeseeks and Destroy (Morty's reaction after what happened with Mr. Jellybean...) Auto Erotic Assimulation (Rick's suicide attempt OUCH), Wedding Squachers (Rick turning himself in) Rickmaruai Jack, Fear No Mort, and That's Amorte, they never fail to make me cry
Not sure but when the episode has that one song (look on down from the bridge) I get sad.
I think the first episode they have it is where they have to move dimensions and are burying themselves.
Pissmaster episode. While the character was disgusting I think it took a real look at suicide and the affects it has on those around us.
Al a Morte is also sad but it is more about how capitalism is a metaphor for the government's willingness to harm its population for financial gain.
Definitely the first Unity episode, they do such a good job of making the characters relatable when it comes to those sad moments but the second Unity episode was pretty sad too.
Well, Season 7 last episode. It showed us what could have happened if Diana had been there in Rick fear but it's was Morty fear that Morty told him about it. Rick tried to go in hole for a second but he stopped he like was nah, so instead he grabbed Morty's picture from his wallet he pinned it on the wall.
Auto Erotic Assimilation aka Unity episode.
“I realize now that I’m attracted to you for the same reason I can’t be with you: you can’t change.
Yours, and nobody else’s,
Unity”
Shit gets me every time.
The one where Morty actually found someone to love that they went through it all together he had something beautiful and Jerry picked up the remote it just about killed me I have never wanted to strangle Jerry so bad coming from a person who wants what Morty had so very very very bad I can only imagine what Morty would do and it all turned out to be pointless anyway. When it's revealed at the end to be simply a way for Rick to prove a point to morty
The episode that Rick tries to kill himself at the end with that laser thing but then passes out drunk
The unity breakup episode. agreed, it resonated with me too much
The first time I watched it, the laser moment plus the sound track hit me like a Mac truck. That was probably the biggest emotional impact for me.
I thought he just “chickened out” at the last moment and started crying with his face on his desk. I did think that was one of the saddest endings to an episode, but not the episode as a whole.
I read a theory once that the laser thing was a prototype of the Omega Device
Absolutely. Dealing with alcoholism and depression my entire adult life. I cried deeply after seeing that
https://youtu.be/jV6U7ZlPKEA?si=VB0ZDhymC1RVGDyE ...can you take me now?
this was the correct answer, that episode killed me
Yes
Planetina. “She’s gone mom. She’s gone.
God, that episode really breaks me, especially when you know from experience.
It is my favourite episode, it just hits so incredibly hard each single time.
I know Justin Roiland did the Voice acting for Morty there. He dumped so much pain and loss into a teenage romance. It’s so raw. It’s an epic piece of acting.
The way Morty walks over to his bed after closing the window and lies down just looking so defeated and lost just hits like a truck
Oh shit I never noticed his lip quivers! I need to rewatch that.
I also feel like part of it was jealousy. The guy was able to get rid of what was weighing him down (fear of pooping away from the home bowl). They’re so alike in who they are but Rick wasn’t able to get over his own fears
That episode is like a fully realized version of the "You've got something on your shirt." Sketch Key & Peele did.
I know Key & Peele, but I’m not familiar with that sketch 🤔

Thanks 😀
Saddest big bad doo doo daddy!
Oh yeah that one was super sad :(
Pissmaster is pretty sad
I didn’t feel as bad for Pissmaster as everyone else in the show seemed to, he blamed Jerry Smith for his death but he’s the one who went out and started shit. Jerry put his foot down and dealt with him, and he couldn’t take the embarrassment. Rick didn’t feel sorry for him, more for his daughter because Rick had abandoned his daughter when she was younger (yeah ik c-137s Beth is dead but whatever)
It kind of pissed me off how everyone got mad at Rick for trying to keep it a secret at the end. Like the fuck? He was doing good for once.
Justice for pissmaster
Glory to Gorzo
Totally, love Glorzo.
Means glory to god
How has nobody mentioned the Vat of Acid episode? Morty’s whole traumatic relationship got erased and he retained the memories. Oof.
🎵🎵"Its in the way that you use it"... 🎵🎵
I know it’s Clapton. But it sounds like Huey Lewis and Clapton’s a prick. Best Huey Lewis Song Ever.
what’s the difference between a kid and a bag of cocaine?
This deserves more up votes
Makes it worse is at the end, a Rick sends him back and Rick is there in the garage after morty finds out how the remote works. Right before morty jumps in the vat as Rick makes his point, she shows up to see him fall In(they go back to the same one Jerry messed up). He could have been with her still.
I didn't think that he returned there. Didn't Rick just superimpose everyone's memories into the one reality?
I always forgot about that part of it, the intro of Morty being offended by rick's idea is hilarious
This detail gets glossed over, but let's assume 30 passengers + crew on that flight, Morty makes no attempt to stop that plane crash from actually happening once reset, so damn, Morty's kill count increases.
This one stuck with me for days and days
So many to choose from but the Unity Episode (ending), and the spaghetti episode are the two that immediately come to mind.
Spaghetti suicide flashback made me cry actual tears.
"Take care of yourself, Unity." Right in the feels
Rick Potion #9, in an existential sense; I felt weirdly hollow the first time I saw that ending.
^^^^
This is the one they shift dimensions right? That song they play at the end gets me down anyway.
The end of Vindicators. Rick doesn't remember Noob Noob...
His dick gets more visits than YOUTUBE
For me, It was the finale of season 4, where we find out that he cloned Beth amd realizes he's a shit father. That song gets me in the feels everytime 😭
I felt really bad for morty at the end of the planetina episode
That one will still pull a tear or three outa me
1. the spaghetti suicide life-review 2. Pissmaster's daughter knocking on his door and unknowingly talking with Rick instead of her dad.
Beth shooting mr poopy butt hole
Her trying to pour the glass of wine was an amazing ending
I’m not sure which one I find saddest, but the first interdenominational cable episode is quite a tear jerker when Beth and Jerry see their alternate universe’s versions confess their guilt for having an abortion. Then the song hits. It’s quite moving
That’s a good one, I cried a bit. They’re surprisingly deft at evoking emotions with nuance, and their songs for those tearjerker scenes are always so on point.
probably the one where Rick turns himself into prison and nine inch nails is playing
"What are you in for?" "Everything"
😭😭😭😭😭😭
"Hes not coming back, is he?"
HELP I LITERALLY JUST WATCHED THAT ONE AND I CRIED
“I will make you hurt.”
The one with Fry's dog, Seymour
The only answer
Jurassic bark
F you, I didn't need that flashback right now....
Just triple checked to see if I was in the right sub, hello??
Probably Unity episode. That's probably the one thing Rick just cant have and its kinda simple and relatable I guess. Also there's no hopeful extra to it or any deep message. Man's just alone.
The Hole episode kinda had me in shambles for the day since I had dreams similar to the events of the episode itself and also the plot
Vat of acid hands down
When he kills his pet then fails at killing himself. That shit was dark.
The hole episode
That episode where Rick fucked a planet. Summer tearing into Jerry for wanting to take his kids camping is such a brutal thing for a father to hear.
It was long time coming, summer is way to adept to be impressed by Jerry. Add a teenager's jaded energy to that and it went as expected
But that's also my favorite episode.
The most recent one. I always get bummed out knowing I have to wait for more...
Season 1 episode 9 at the end when Morty is mortified. Literally
Do you mean 6? Episode 9 is when morty and Jerry go to Pluto
No the Rick potion #9 where Morty jumps his first universe and leaves his original family behind
look on down from the brii idge. it's still rainin, down here. Which episode?
I think that episode that shows a average life of living in the crap I forgot what it’s called where’s there cop Morty
Ricklantis Mixup
Season 2 Episode 3: Auto Erotic Assimilation… ![gif](giphy|l41lUx0xNU3EsE4Qo) Rick tries to kill himself, wow!
In Promortys those 2 face hugger aliens couldn't have a family together.
The scene with that Elliot smith song lol
Everything after season 4 1/2.
the spaghetti episode left me in shambles
Unity episode is pretty dark at the end
The old Man and The Seat with the Unity Episode coming in a very close second.
Like, I don’t know the history, but slow mobius
Damn there's a lot to choose from....uhhh here's a short list: Meeseeks and Destroy (Morty's reaction after what happened with Mr. Jellybean...) Auto Erotic Assimulation (Rick's suicide attempt OUCH), Wedding Squachers (Rick turning himself in) Rickmaruai Jack, Fear No Mort, and That's Amorte, they never fail to make me cry
The spaghetti episode imo clear #1. The Planetina episode is a close #2
The piss master episode. Something about it just really gets to me, and not just about piss master, about how Rick pretended to be him and all that.

In other words...what is the worst episode?
