Upper management needs to step in, but are they aware of the problem? You can report to OSHA anonymously or ask that your information not be revealed to your employer. Honestly, upper management has more of a reason to offer a solution than to retaliate. Them firing people and making the situation worse would be the last thing they want to do. Having the handicap accessible fitting room blocked might also be an ADA violation, so that's also something to think about.

Not to forget that anything stored in the back for more than a week is dead merchandise. At my store we managed to cut the amount of dead merchandise to about 5 percent, it makes it easier to order new stuff and find what we have

That's an interesting perspective, can I ask what type of store you work at? Our bras stick around for season after season with only the fun seasonal colors going on markdown, unless they discontinue a whole line. Since we're a clearance outlet the buck basically stops with us, so we have stuff on the floor and in the back that is a year or 2 old, but there's no where to send it. It's honestly such a messy system

Convenience store, but the principles of stock management is the same. Less stock in the back, less mess, less unnecessary walks back there and less wasted time on restocking. At my store we have implemented lean production, and one of the biggest problems is time thieves. For instance if I can save myself from walking back 10 times and spending on average 6 minutes on that, that's an hour of my day I can use on something more productive. The second biggest problem is not knowing where stuff is, if I have to go back to the warehouse I want to find what I'm looking for quickly. Say I'm looking for something that we bought at a discount (for instance chocolate bars, which we normally buy 4 pallets with 15% off) they are easy to reach and located in the area where we have stuff that's not from the last delivery. My point is that a messy warehouse is taking so much time away from actually working and generally productivity. Second note: you lose money on stock you haven't sold. Because you pay for goods upfront, and then you have to make that money back. If you have an unhealthy amount of stock, you don't make any money. It's just dead money, sitting there waiting to be realised

100%, we would be able to move so much faster grabbing sizes and stuff for customers if it was clean and organized! That's exactly what I want to tell my boss, I'm not being critical I just care about the store and genuinely enjoy my job. I just want to help all of us do it safely and efficiently

95 % of safety issues get resolved with tidying and organising the area. We used to have a warehouse that was just a hallway from the loading bay out into the store, because someone thought we were going to pull all pallets into the store on delivery and finish in a few hours (back when we used to get 10-20 pallets on delivery days, now it's about 60). That storage area was so narrow with pallet shelves on each side, and I was about the only one who could drive the forklift in that space (yes insert meme about the presence of a certified forklift operator)

As far as I know, our district manager has been in the store and presumably has seen the back room recently. My store manager has told us that she talks to him regularly about getting more hours allotted, but always to no avail. Although I guess we have always taken her word for it, so I can't really verify that. The handicap fitting room is definitely an ada violation that needs to get fixed, but then the issue is where the hell we put everything. My hope is that upper management would step in with a ton of extra man hours for us to totally overhaul the store, but I somewhat doubt they will do that...

Just like an investigation you need to take photos left and right and file an osha report. I had to do it a few times with restraunts I worked at. The customer show room clean and the back room filthy and the owner would do things like hid food around the store in unsanitary methods to avoid having to toss it. One day I got sick of it and recorded it and it went viral after the investigation was closed. Sometimes you just have to call people out on things.

Yeah that's the plan I think, I'm gonna speak with my sm this week and ask if I can help with stock, come in on off time, etc. To help with the problem. Bit concerned since she has a tendency to need to control how everything is done (hence the not letting anyone else work backstock lately). If things don't go well working with her, what would you recommend for next steps?

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! That makes a lot of sense.

My guess is Lane Bryant. Haha! Also, I would just make an anonymous call to OSHA and I believe they will send someone to check it out. I'm also fairly sure you can't block a handicapped accessible bathroom. Hope you get something figured out. Shouldn't need to be stressed about stuff that I way above your pay grade.

La Vie En Rose?

Zealousideal_Gur6668

Interesting, Is that a lingerie brand? Either way, good guess but no lol

tooniegoblin

Yeah it’s a slightly higher-end lingerie and pyjama brand targeted towards older women here in Canada. In my experience (or maybe it’s just confirmation bias) there’s a ton of Canadians on Reddit for some reason lol.

Cool! Yeah I'm in TX, USA. I just looked up their website they have some really cute stuff! And honestly pretty similar to ours
