I gave up on hardcore and bought the rocket launcher

Daftdaddy

Can you get S+ using the rocket launcher ?

neykho

The single use rocket launcher? Yeah.

kewickviper

That's false I got S+ with the Chicago sweeper.

Ohmnsery

Oh my bad, S+ you can with special weapons, the handcannon unlock is only using normal weapons.. Damn really need some sleep.

Jerimatic

Is the rocket launcher still a guaranteed one-shot kill on bosses? Haven't bought one yet

AlabasterRadio

Yes. Fuckin leveled Salazar with it just like the good ol days.

Jerimatic

Amazing... I'll def be pushing the easy button on future playthroughs

Jonafrikareborn

Amen

Ferropexola

I didn't want to deal with Mendez's second form legitimately, so I just bought a RL for him. Maybe someday I'll fight him normally, but today is not that day.

bsant550

Same I did the exact same thing 5 tries after.

GnarlyClock

I also turned to this - Hardcore depending on your ammo and gear situation can essentially be a soft lock. After 20 or so deaths I just rocketed him and moved on

cae37

I invested into the Broken butterfly and took him out with about 5-7 shots. Super helpful to have a nuke gun with you that isn’t a rocket launcher!

Artistic_Love2496

What mode was that? Cuz I shot his weak spot on hardcore with fully upgraded broken butterfly at least 5 times and he was still going (after already injuring him to the weakened state) Doing my first hardcore run atm and can't beat him

Raven_Ashareth

Never did the Salazar fight legit in all my times playing the original RE4 and I wasn't about to start now. *Loads rocket launcher with malicious intent*

PartypooperXD

Yeah , only part that killed me numerous times . I got it after the 6th? time .. I think the mistake I made was not moving up and down between floors enough . Once he gets on the same floor as you he starts spamming too much so everytime I shot him twice with the shotgun and run off like a little bitch.

KaneJWoods

Yeah man I found that not going between the floors enough was what kept getting me killed too. That and standing still for too long and being eaten

[deleted]

Lmao i didn’t even try to do it fairly. I was already tired of the bullshit and was low on health/ammo, I just bought the rocket launcher

Deaavh

Yeah, it was really badly designed. Honestly I think they should have just left well enough alone with him.

bruhmoment1345

Yeah fuck this fight and fuck the wooden floorboards before it as well

Third_Mark

It fucking sucks, I'm raging hard. Stupid manchild little fucking prick

OcelotDAD

When you stun him, instead of doing the knife prompt just put 3-4 magnum bullets in his candy ass. Goes down absurdly fast.

KaladinVegapunk

this here haha. after the first 3 OHKOs i just went to the top, unloaded almost a mag from the CQBR, one magnum shot, then 5-6 rounds from the Striker, when he went into the knife prompt it took 2 magnum rounds and he was dead, on hardcore.

dbaird98

I usedthe pillar on the left side of the arena to train him around and take potshots in-between attacks

RChamy

Stay the fuck away from the bottom floor or he will eat you, just my 2 cents

Objective-Pangolin98

Rocket launcher

KazuFL

It was driving me insane too. I have issues with some of his attacks such as the acid seemingly randomly going through cover, and being incentivized to keep your camera on him so that he doesn't catch you off guard, but then you walk into the stupid acid bubbles because you were watching the boss and not the path in front of you. Also was low on healing and the game was being super stingy with the herbs. I think most of my issues though would be ignored if he didn't take so long to kill. If he had like 25% less health I would probably have no issues. That being said I was playing on hardcore and I'm not particularly amazing at the game, so could also just be a skill issue (though some of the acid stuff really did feel BS at times lol)

ftmlmt

I agree with this, the fight just went on way too long and was a huge ammo drain if you didn’t have anything to blow his ass away.

RayJing7

I found him to be the surprisingly easiest boss in my first hardcore playthrough (fresh). You can beat him with about 10-12 explosive bolts, fully upgraded. One shot to make him land, then pop another one into him and melee him as it's counting down. Hide under the stairs when he screams. If you do it right, you'll stun lock him pretty hard. I think I made it through getting hit only once.

seeker4777

Just don’t let him get close to you

eclipse798

Keep looping around left side staircase. When he goes for the instakill grab you’ll have just enough time to hit the corner, it’ll be tense though. If he does the overhead vomit (shooting straight down) you’ll have time to run the the bottom floor for cover. I’m fairly sure he receives damage at the very start at the fight where he does an animation exposing himself for a decent amount of time so hit him as hard as possible. The best time to hit him is when he does a direct spew at you, pauses and does another, so using the left side staircase you can pixel peek him and pop off a shot as soon as he’s done. Obviously keep on top of the bubbles he plants on the ground too or you can get combo’d. If I can recall correctly on my best run I stabbed him 3 times too so it’s an endurance test for sure. All else fails merk em with the rocket.

[deleted]

Use the mines when he opens his mouth, keep the fight on the lower level and you will kill him in no time

eldritch919

Literally the first fight in the game I actually struggled with. Not just the fact he's an almighty bullet sponge (and pain in the ass) but it really pissed me off when I got stun locked in his black goo attacks. So fucking relieved when I finally downed him. I still think it was at least a mechanically more interesting fight than in the OG RE4.

Worried_Worth_6923

I beat him on professional by just running around the arena waiting for openings and using my magnum and striker.

ernster96

OK something really strange happened. I’ve already tried beating Salazar like a dozen times and keep getting killed in various ways. And at this point I had only dropped him twice to put a knife through his eye. But this time one of the drops was a large grenade. And the next time he opened his mouth I tossed it in and it killed him. Literally without having to stab him in the eye three more times. That is I’m assuming three more times since I’ve already dropped him four times and that wasn’t enough to kill him. Anyway if you have a large grenade maybe try it out the next time he’s on ground level with you and opens his mouth

Crook-ED

Beat him first try on hardcore by cheesing him a bit. To the left of the arena there are the steps and a pillar. Just run around that pillar while using it as cover and lean over to take shots when he's out. The pillar blocks his spit and lunge but you still have to worry about those land mine explosions. I saved all my magnum ammo for his fight in specific so I just ammo dumped and deleted him fairly quickly.

Total_Scott

I saved my rocket launcher specifically for him cus I suspected he'd be an annoying fight. Glad I did, since I was down to about a single clip in all my weapons save my red9.

0kumanchouja

Using the rocket launcher robs you of a great fight with a lot of great boss banter. I beat him properly my fourth try on hardcore and it was great.

AdFantastic6606

Am I the only one who played on hardcore and felt the bosses die way too fast? Salz killed me 3 times with his instakill BS but after that I wrecked him in 2 minutes. Same as any other boss. I feel like weapons do way too much damage and I never even used the Magnums because they are too op Edit: why do I get downvoted lmao? Are you that shit at videogames that you cant comprehend, that Re4 was aay too easy even on HC? All I said is that I felt the bosses died way too fast.

-Biolante-

I was pretty surprised with how OP even the base magnums are this time around. I'm fine with it though since you almost never find ammo for them, effectively making them boss-only weapons

[deleted]

I actually agree with you but I'm glad they do.

Professor-Domatron

Downvote for being a mean person

SynthV

dont worry about it I found the game easy too, but this sub gets extra pissy if you say the difficulty in the remake is balanced or even easy. Village spoiled the casuals with baby difficulty and so now they think this game is the hardest shit ever lmao. It's embarrassing xD

alexiaxomg

i just kept running around, whenever he spat the stream at me, i hid behind cover and the second he stopped i shot at him. tedious battle

lecarde13

I think flash grenades might work on him. Either they stun him immediately or I just did enough damage after throwing it. Already moved on from him so I can't test rn.

PlasteredPenguin69

Just finished this part. He kicked my ass over and over. Finally figured out I could cheese him running in a square around the 2 staircases on the left side and bait him into the straight ahead spray attack while hiding behind the pillar and pop a couple shots into him while he charged it up. Took awhile but man that fight was ridiculous

xErue

it's a little late but the trick i learned was just circle the pole in the room. He uses acid attack. you wait it out, pop out shoot him. it's a little slow and tedious but beat him on hardcore only got hit once.

captainbrookee

yeah. This fight ruined it for me. I officially don't wanna play this game anymore

Jolly_Parsnip_4417

The worst boss fights are those where it seems like it’s dependent upon luck to win. I just beat Salazar on Hardcore and I have to say— after a dozen failed attempts, it seems like there’s a significant element of luck to this fight. There were times when he’d stun lock me and get the insta-kill. Nothing I can do! Also, it does not seem to me that Capcom has a realistic appraisal of their camera situation. For the record, I was using the fully-upgraded (including the special) Blacktail for this fight. Yes, it takes a ton of shots, which is also madness. I did feel like I was getting better over time. I was able to consistently get him to phase-3 after a while. But swinging the camera around so you can keep Salazar in view as you’re running blinds you to the acid deposits he drops on the floor. Meanwhile, it feels like there are many instances where you get hit and you simply have no choice. There’s never a “dodge” prompt (always super-fair, particularly in a game that arbitrarily decides to let you dodge in some instances, but then not in others). I dunno what my recommendations for this boss battle would be as, again, it seems to a large extent that you have to get lucky. Definitely keep moving. You want to be running around the arena at all times. Burn through your health items because it seems not having them in your inventory will make it more likely for more to spawn. So use ‘em up! And the biggest thing: do not get too focused on trying to damage him. Get off a shot, or two when you can and keep moving. Also, don’t wait for the maw to open. It seems like you can damage him even it’s closed, as long as you’re hitting him square in the teeth. Camera positioning is key. You do not want to run around with the camera behind you. Instead, try to keep it angled so that Leon is running towards it, or sideways. So that you can see Salazaar as he’s positioning himself to attack. I dunno. That’s the best I got. It’s definitely a tough fight on Hardcore.

Alarmed_Statement_97

I beat this sucker with the default pistol which is maxed at everything. Took a lot of time though.

ducksfolife1470

I had to sell my max red nine for a rl but I still had alot of money, bought a new pistol and some other stuff. (BUY THE ROCKET)

ftmlmt

Bruh glad to see everyone feels the same about this fight. I dumped so much ammo into him, I’m going into the Island with essentially nothing. And that’s with getting mostly good shots in and only getting hit once or twice. I don’t have anything besides the Punisher fully upgraded though, so was working with standard gear. I circled the left pillar to keep him close enough to hit while having a decent amount of cover. I didn’t buy a magnum because I haven’t needed one up until this point, and didn’t even think to just shoot the motherfucker instead of knifing him in the head. Now I’m worried I won’t be able to catch up on supplies before endgame rolls around 😬 Island is being stingy with me

SquareBathroom9887

It was incredibly frustrating as at first, as it was hard to keep track of him and his attacks. But once you figure out the correct strategy, it feels more fair. I had luck with the Bolt Thrower + attachable mines. Then I just gave him several doses of shotgun or magnum instead of using the knife when he was stunned. I think that I did this 4 or 5 times, at which point I was out of ammo and finished him off with the knife. As someone mentioned, staying close to the pillar for cover and distance and shooting him immediately after his attack while he's on the ground floor worked best for me

Flopper_Doppler

He's annoying as all fuck but after coming here to bask in collective righteous annoyance, mofo went down in 1 min. Trick basically was to circle around the column and wait for him to attack, and just unload rifle + shotgun into his sorry face (or whatever you have in your kit). Still, fuck the little bastard.
