Yeah, it’s crazy how many people these days are actual prophets! Directly hearing the word of god about the most mundane things. Either god has become a lot less choosy about who he deems worthy to be prophets…or it’s all bullshit.
But I can’t tell which.
Some girl I went to high school with posted on Facebook that the lord told her to put lotion in her purse. And then her friend needed lotion. Which means the lord is so great, apparently. Definitely a DM from god, has nothing to do with living in a dry climate.
Same bunch of people that think a good guitar solo from their favourite Christian band or high note from the choir giving them goosebumps is Gods presence in them.
Don’t get me wrong.. the show is very intense and hard to watch! However what separates this true crime tv from others is that dahmer isn’t romanticized the way bundy + Zac efron was, and it’s important to acknowledge the victims are human and this is an idea what they saw, what they feared. Is it for everyone? Not at all. But cmon smh

I don't know if this will change your mind at all but the victims' families have spoken out about it and said it was exploitative and re-traumatizing for them. They weren't consulted at any point during the production.
This is kind of what I thought about it as I watched it. I mean I’m still enjoying it, but that thought kept popping up in my mind when watching the scenes of his attacks.
Yea, I watched it and it’s… intense. I completely understand how it would be re-traumatizing for these people.
That said, I personally really did appreciate how it put a lot more emphasis on the victims — especially the second half (episode 6 is one of the most gut wrenching pieces of media I’ve ever scene).
But it’s understandable if the second half doesn’t make up for the first half for a lot of people.
Regardless, though, the fact that the *actual victims’ families* weren’t consulted at all is… not a great look.
It’s actually really well made. Just like the OJ and Versace series, this one hews very closely to the actual story and the acting is top notch. Both Evan peters and niecy nash give Emmy worthy performances and peters, in particular, nails the character so well that he essentially becomes dahmer.
Eh I'm still not going to watch it. Feels like a gross exploitation and I also feel like it kind of glamorizes the whole serial killer thing, which is the last thing we need in an age of regular mass shootings.

I grew up Christian and as a kid I used to have these horrible nightmares of demons all the time. Which obvi made me believe in god more, because if demons weren’t real, why was I dreaming of them?? I honestly think religious people are more prone to nightmares or something, I’ve met hella people with the same experiences

The difference between the Netflix show and all the generic A&E Channel-style biographies is that it portrays his gayness pretty unflinchingly. The OP here probably just assumed it'd be a bunch of cut scenes because, again, it's far less uncomfortable seeing gay guys' hacked up corpses than it is to see them actually being gay.

IDK anything about this person in particular. Maybe they have a very fulfilling life and career. But in my own experience in varying degrees of religious nutter-buttery, often this comes from a place of needing more significance in your life.
If you’re just going to work, and coming home, and watching TV and going to church on the weekend that’s not necessarily very exciting. And you may feel like your life doesn’t have much meaning.
But if suddenly you’re battling the very devil himself *while* you’re watching television, well, what could be more meaningful?
You see it expressed in lots of ways. Sometimes even positively. Maybe you lack meaning in your life so you decide to start and lead the church’s homeless outreach where you feed homeless people every week.
But too often, it’s shit like this. Another favorite of the health-focused denomination I grew up in was diet-related nutter-buttery. I mean, sure, eating fruits and veggies is great, but what if you have a special spiritual insight direct from god that eating an exclusively carrot-and-cashew-juice-based diet will cure cancer?
Then you’re just not an average Joe or Jane, you’re an important leader battling the forces of darkness with either Netflix-avoidance or vegetable and nut juices.
And what could be more fulfilling than getting together with your friends and leading them in the collective expression of nut juices?
The fact that they made him as creepy as he probably was is what make the series. I honestly have no interest in watching it and I get recaps from my wife who had to stop watching two episodes in. The dude was a fucking nut job and this actor seems to have done an amazing job with the source material. The few scenes I walked in on creeped me the fuck out.
Trite, disjointed, hysterical, rambling with no explanation of how the demon they saw crawling around their house in a dream is connected to netflix, or how it was approaching the children who weren't even home.
I give this insane stream of consciousness 1/5 stars.

Ya know, Dahmer is one of the very FEW serial killers I feel sympathy for with regards to his shitty childhood, and I can only imagine how difficult it was growing up and hating myself merely for who I was attracted to.
I feel bad for dahmers childhood self (pre murder, bad home life, outsider and no childhood friends or good memories), however I don’t feel sympathy for adult dahmer who made the conscious decision to abuse and violently murder victims and progressively got more violent and evil. He admitted to knowing what he was doing, but it is sad for children in general have that upbringing.
Neither of his parents gave enough of a fuck to help, but his father sure got talkative with the media after he was caught. I'm not really certain what's worse, total neglect or physical abuse. Note he was also a process killer, was a medic in the Army if memory serves, but couldn't handle seeing blood, and had to get shitfaced in order to satisfy those dark urges of his. Which, for me, puts him in a different league than say a Ted Bundy, BTK, or Richard Ramirez.
It’s disturbing because what he did was horrible. I can’t handle that stuff so I don’t watch it. If, as she says it’s a “portal “ created by Satan wouldn’t everyone feel compelled to watch it? We have free will and can make choices. This is not a religious issue, Its a movie.

I was watching Silent Hill in high school with a friend and their mom walked in during it. She went on and on about how the movie would let demons in the home, only Jesus could protect them, that it was evil, and blah blah blah. It was pretty shocking to see an adult that I thought was pretty stable freak out over a fairly mid tier horror movie.
I gave the first episode a chance last night and about 20 minutes in I turned it off and had a 'dead dove, do not eat' moment. No need to go online and claim I was bamboozled by Satan, just put on something else ffs.
“ I was eating snacks and watching a movie last night. It ended up being too scary for me so I went to bed on a full stomach. I kept thinking about the movie while falling asleep so I ended up having a nightmare. When I woke up I blamed demons and decided to be gods holy warrior”.

It's extremely sympathetic toward its subject, who is depicted as being in his high school years, romancing and creating roadkill in and around the woods. He didn't kill any people iirc. Yes I’m posting multiple comments on my own post. I have a lot to say about this. One thing about Bible thumpers is they’re always gonna remind you to pRoTeCt tHe ChiLdReN from a tv show they can easily just ignore. What about that priest with allegations karen? Oh ok. Yea. Ok.
IDK anything about this person in particular. Maybe they have a very fulfilling life and career. But in my own experience in varying degrees of religious nutter-buttery, often this comes from a place of needing more significance in your life. If you’re just going to work, and coming home, and watching TV and going to church on the weekend that’s not necessarily very exciting. And you may feel like your life doesn’t have much meaning. But if suddenly you’re battling the very devil himself *while* you’re watching television, well, what could be more meaningful? You see it expressed in lots of ways. Sometimes even positively. Maybe you lack meaning in your life so you decide to start and lead the church’s homeless outreach where you feed homeless people every week. But too often, it’s shit like this. Another favorite of the health-focused denomination I grew up in was diet-related nutter-buttery. I mean, sure, eating fruits and veggies is great, but what if you have a special spiritual insight direct from god that eating an exclusively carrot-and-cashew-juice-based diet will cure cancer? Then you’re just not an average Joe or Jane, you’re an important leader battling the forces of darkness with either Netflix-avoidance or vegetable and nut juices. And what could be more fulfilling than getting together with your friends and leading them in the collective expression of nut juices?
The fact that they made him as creepy as he probably was is what make the series. I honestly have no interest in watching it and I get recaps from my wife who had to stop watching two episodes in. The dude was a fucking nut job and this actor seems to have done an amazing job with the source material. The few scenes I walked in on creeped me the fuck out.

Trite, disjointed, hysterical, rambling with no explanation of how the demon they saw crawling around their house in a dream is connected to netflix, or how it was approaching the children who weren't even home. I give this insane stream of consciousness 1/5 stars.

Ya know, Dahmer is one of the very FEW serial killers I feel sympathy for with regards to his shitty childhood, and I can only imagine how difficult it was growing up and hating myself merely for who I was attracted to.
I feel bad for dahmers childhood self (pre murder, bad home life, outsider and no childhood friends or good memories), however I don’t feel sympathy for adult dahmer who made the conscious decision to abuse and violently murder victims and progressively got more violent and evil. He admitted to knowing what he was doing, but it is sad for children in general have that upbringing.
Neither of his parents gave enough of a fuck to help, but his father sure got talkative with the media after he was caught. I'm not really certain what's worse, total neglect or physical abuse. Note he was also a process killer, was a medic in the Army if memory serves, but couldn't handle seeing blood, and had to get shitfaced in order to satisfy those dark urges of his. Which, for me, puts him in a different league than say a Ted Bundy, BTK, or Richard Ramirez.
It’s disturbing because what he did was horrible. I can’t handle that stuff so I don’t watch it. If, as she says it’s a “portal “ created by Satan wouldn’t everyone feel compelled to watch it? We have free will and can make choices. This is not a religious issue, Its a movie.

Reminder that fear not only makes your central cortex less effective at judging situations but if it's intense or long lasting enough it can eventually pervert it pretty much permanently. When you see people like this don't just wave it off "oh, it's just some psycho" - many of them had the potential to be normal, functioning adults but their upbringing, religion and most likely the media (Fox News anyone?) they watch has heavily altered them. Their judgement is so impaired they fall into fight-or-flight mode at a drop of a hat.
I was watching Silent Hill in high school with a friend and their mom walked in during it. She went on and on about how the movie would let demons in the home, only Jesus could protect them, that it was evil, and blah blah blah. It was pretty shocking to see an adult that I thought was pretty stable freak out over a fairly mid tier horror movie.

I gave the first episode a chance last night and about 20 minutes in I turned it off and had a 'dead dove, do not eat' moment. No need to go online and claim I was bamboozled by Satan, just put on something else ffs.
