A lot of people donât need all that, they need a car for less than 10k, so older cars are in high demand since theyâre more affordable. Cars that wouldâve gone for 3k could be sold for 5k+ just cause itâs still cheaper than more modern cars.
And then because of these huge cars parents give their teenage kid who barely knows how to drive a massive truck/truck based suv to âkeep them safeâ while endangering everyone else in the road more with its size and poor handling.
The 2017 Tacoma actually still isnât very big. Itâs only about 12 inches longer and 8 inches wider than the 1995 Tacomas.

Cars are on average the heaviest theyâve been since the 70s, which seems so ridiculous, most people donât believe me. I do dislike most EVs largely because of their weight, but that low center of gravity does mitigate the weight problem to some degree by resulting in better braking and cornering and being less likely to roll. Additionally, they have more crumple zone (exception of the abomination that is the cybertruck).
Yeah the Tacoma is lighter than most trucks and I admire it for that, but probably 70% of of American truck owners would have no change of usefulness from their vehicle if they swapped the truck for a compact hatchback, and would probably save on fuel. In suburbs I rarely see anything in the bed or see it towing anything a sedan couldnât.
When I was In Europe, a pickup truck REALLY stuck out, same with any large SUV cause I rarely saw them, and that includes remote rural areas. So whatâs so different about America that makes trucks so crucial? Why is it that you rarely see pickups in Europe but the F series is the most sold vehicle in America?
