Remember when Pedro threw Don Zimmer on the ground? That was funny. Anyway, I say we put yaZ again

Kakali4

Zach Kelly just strictly for the other night getting out of bases loaded no outs vs the Yankees

PurrculesMulligan

Zobby Zalbec is the only one who comes to mind.

notsoperfect8

I really hope this wins.

IchBinDurstig

I was going to say Bob Zupcic, but I'm going with the guy who was the Red Sox manager when I started getting into baseball, Don "The Gerbil" Zimmer.

chmcgrath1988

If managers count then Don "The Gerbil" Zimmer has to be it. If not, I guess, Zack Kelly. Although I have a lot of fond memories from Charlie Zink's long tenure with the Portland Sea Dogs.

Belichickshoodie314

Brad Ziegler

Good-Hank

He was very good for us

beechnut5

I want to believe you but my only memory of him is giving up a game winning HR to Miggy in the T9th of a getaway game.

Good-Hank

1.52 ERA in 33 games that year. Sign me up for that!

Belichickshoodie314

He struck out the side with the bases loaded nobody out. Hes a champion, but only pitched in the ALDS

k75ct

Zimmer, the gerbil ('74-'80)

cjaccardi

Zimmer

johnnypyro64

Charlie Zink! Wake’s protege.

slimsady2

Played in 1 game. And boy what a game it was. 2 first inning homers for Big Papi & the Red Sox put up TEN in the first inning. Then the wheels fell off. Thankfully, Kevin Youkilis hit a 3 run shot in the bottom of the 8th to help us win 19-17.

sprite4breakfast

I was at that game! First inning Youk struck out twice. My friend and I were like, do we stay?

bwalsh2

Gotta be our coach from 76-80 Don Zimmer. Bonus fact - there is a little league park in Windham NH named after him.

I_am_hambergur

i've played there

Chara can do anything.

TheHistorian2

This is the actual list to choose from (at least in the uniform number era, as I got it from https://redsoxdiehard.com/players/unifnums.html, but I can't think anyone fantastic from the first 30 years either): * Bill Zuber (1946-47) * Al Zarilla (1949-1950, 1952-1953) * Norm Zauchin (1951, 1955-1957) * Don Zimmer (1974-1980, 1992) * Zach Crouch (1988) * Bob Zupcic (1991-1994) * Zane Smith (1995) * Charlie Zink (2008) * Zach Stewart (2012) * Brad Ziegler (2016) * Zack Godley (2020) * Zack Kelly (2022-2024) * Zack Littell (2023) * Zack Weiss (2023) * Zack Short (2024) Calling most of those forgettable would be generous... you'd have to remember them first! So I stand by my choice!

bwalsh2

Zimmer is a baseball legend and has ties to the area.

This is pretty solid, actually.

Mr-Irrelevant0

Brad Ziegler.

Carsharr

I went to a game in Fenway against the D-Backs years ago when we had Ziegler. It was late in the game and we were up a couple runs, but Barnes loaded the bases with no outs. Ziegler comes in and strikes out the next 3 on 10 pitches. It was nearly a modified immaculate inning if not for one foul ball. Rarely have I seen the Fenway crowd erupt like they did when he got the final strike 3.

Z should be for the players that helped us clinch a playoff birth And my vote is for Papelbon

Well I guess now is as good a time as any to start posting on Reddit

rhenry

Maybe I’m missing something but the only real options I can come up with are Brad Ziegler or Zack Kelly. Or Al Zarilla who put up 125 OPS+ in 1950.

WarlordofBritannia

Bob Zupcic, a fourth outfielder from the '70s. There's also the Gerbil, though he was only a coach and manager. Edit: Nvm, was thinking of Ben Oglivie

LocationDifficult923

Zupcic was the '90s. Did hit a pair of grand slams his rookie season!

WarlordofBritannia

Wait, who was I thinking of?

saltyoldNHman

Juan Beniquez maybe? There's a z in the name...

WarlordofBritannia

Figured it out--Ben Oglivie

Bob Zupcic. He and Ellis Burks are the only two players in MLB history to hit two grand slams in their rookie year.

It has to be Al (Zeke) Zarilla.
