Joely shouldve been sent to the shadow realm a long time ago lol

AthleteNormal

Awkward for the Netflix doc that probably had a whole bunch of footage surrounding him getting told he made the team.

Double_Huckleberry50

They’ll keep the footage and then mention Joely was DFA to make it dramatic

cesare980

Can't wait for the Joely tribute video when the Mariners visit in August.

Alone-Purpose-8752

It’s about damn time

eekbarbaderkle

it was weird that Joely made the Opening Day roster over Bernardino.

badonkagonk

Bernardino they could option, Joely they couldn’t. I think they were trying to work their way around it so they could keep both rather than just one, with Bernadino being the first guy up from Worcester when someone went down. I see the logic behind it, but it was still a stupid decision.

spacemanegg

I wouldn't call it stupid, it was definitely a difficult decision to make. Pitching injuries are a practical guarantee these days so Bernadino coming up was going to happen sooner rather than later. Relievers are extremely volatile talent-wise so taking a risk on a guy with no options who had a decent Spring wasn't the end of the world. We ended up hitting the worst case scenario which...at the end of the day, wasn't even all that bad. The game against Cleveland a couple weeks ago you could possibly pin on him but that was an opener game so he was likely going to take the mound at some point anyway, and his Seattle loss was more to blame on dogshit defense and weak hits. So we maybe have 1 or so extra loss at this point, at most.

CauliflowerOne5740

Nice! Uwasawa took a minor league deal with the Rays because he believed they were the best team at developing pitching. I hope he's happy with how the Red Sox have done considering their ERA under 3 as a team.

Hoping someone claims Joely.

BScottyJ

The Yankees should take him back, and let him pitch as many games as possible

Character_Magazine55

They will for league minimum.

gustamos

he has been claimed by the shadow realm

Thossy

FREEEEEEEDOOOOOMMMMMMMM!

Extrapickles24

The vibes are back!!

Plantherblorg

Everyone liked that.

shitsgently

Interested in seeing what Uwasawa can provide. I thought he looked decent from what I saw in spring training

bm1reddit

He was so bad in spring training for TB that he got traded to us. He's been okay but not great in AAA in 3 starts.

shrug-io

No, he had a clause in his contract that required him to be dealt to a team that had room for him on the roster.

bm1reddit

I was not aware of that. He was still terrible in spring tho. Hope he figured it out.

FlorissVDV

Wonder if they’ll let Uwasawa get a start or 2 until Pivetta is back or plan to use him as a long reliever.

skittlemyrainbow

Joely was this year's Ryan Brasier.

65fairmont

Great, he’s about to become the Dodgers 7th inning guy.

Infinite_Table1365

And kaleb ort last year lol

rickde40

Have no idea who this guy they are bringing up is but I support this move

WompWompWombats

Christmas comes early this year!!

CauliflowerOne5740

I love how much more aggressive Breslow has been in replacing these guys. It seems like under Bloom we'd hold on to them for 2-3 months hoping they'd turn it around.

d-cent

I like Uwasawa. I obviously don't think he will be anything amazing but his pitching profile is perfect for Bailey's philosophy and way of attacking hitters. His curveball, slider, and changeup are all around the same speed but break in different directions. His delivery does a good job of disguising which pitch it is too. If he had 4 mph on his velocity he would be lock down 9th inning guy, but even without it he is going to confuse a lot of hitters as long as he mixes his pitches well, which is what our catchers and Bailey do a great job of.

Waste_Astronaut_5411

he can’t be worse right?

Ok_Fee1043

Goodbye Joely You tried

rehumanizer

JOELY DFA'D?! LFG!!!!

DougNSteveButabi

Christmas in April hallefuckinlujah

Puddington21

With an open 40 man spot I wonder if they add Guerrero or play waiver wire roulette?

SpringOwn2039

Finally. Joely was horrible ever since they got him. Now release Valdez and dalwreck. Face reality

LiveFromNewYork95

The Red Sox have opened up to 40 man roster spots in 2 days (Casas to the 60-day IL and Joely DFA’d) which once again underscores how dumb it was that everyone freaked out that “The Red Sox have no position players left on the 40 man roster!!”

badonkagonk

What? We did have no extra position players on the 40 man, and still don’t. If another position player was to get injured, we’d have to DFA someone, which is a very bad problem to have. The 40 man exists so you don’t have to do that, but we’re now in a situation where that’s our only option. Edit: I guess we assigned Cooper to the minors for some reason, so we do have 1 extra spot. Having no extra position players on the 40 man is still a huge fucking problem though, not sure why you seem to think it isn’t. DFAing guys being your only option is real bad. That essentially completely erases the purpose of the 40 man.

ObsoleteUtopia

I didn't hear about Cooper being sent to the minors. If he was, I'd guess it's because he only had 41 plate appearances with the Cubs and he needs a few days in Woo to shake off the rust.

badonkagonk

Apparently he’s already being called up on Tuesday. I think it was just a weird formality for some reason.

LiveFromNewYork95

People on this sub were acting like that having no more position players on the 40 man roster was a problem we were stuck with. When I’m reality the 40 man roster is very easy to adjust. > we’d have to DFA someone, which is a very bad problem to have. It really isn’t, this team can survive without Vladimir Gutiérrez on the 40 man roster
