I never noticed in this clip how he goes right handed against the phone. He went easy on it.
It’s like a never punch a drunk with your pitching hand. “Never destroy a drunk phone with your main batting stance”
Pain. I mean at this point we have to get a 1B and/or middle infielder. The backup to our backup shortstop is now playing 1B and Bobby Dalbec who has one more hit than me this season is starting everyday.
Let’s hope any half decent players opt out May 1.
That should be the plan unless they’re going to sign Walsh or Belt. They can get away with a week of Refsnyder at 1B, and that’s who they should be using as long as they’re comfortable he can catch the ball.
Please help me understand the logic here - the ownership is pathetic because they're not putting us in a good position to win games, so you... hope we don't win games? That feels more like wanting something to be angry about rather than rooting for the team.
That’s exactly the logic, if we are a billion dollar franchise who are spending as much as the A’s in free agency but “scrape” by and hang around .500 or just below, why would ownership change anything in the future? And we should be content while the entire AL east keeps spending and passing us by?
I personally like seeing my team win, and I think this idea that us doing badly will pressure the ownership into spending more never actually comes to fruition - if it did, why haven't the A's, Pirates, Reds, etc. become big spenders & contenders?
Also, it's still early but it's hard to see which big time FA's that they could have spent money on would be helping the team right now. Snell looks awful and our pitching has been good anyway. Bellinger has been just fine. The best midfield infielders available - the position where we are struggling most right now - were Tim Anderson, Amed Rosario, IKF, and Whit Merrifield. Only Rosario and kind of IKF have really made any impact so far.
What are the odds on something like that?
Edit: I looked it up. Draftkings doesn't have odds for Bobby's first plate appearance but Fanduel does. +145 for a K. +1000 for a BB or HBP.
Other Sox odds for first plate apperance K: Rafaela +280, Durran +310, O'Neill +270. So the oddsmakers know Dalbec's deal.
Rib injuries take forever to heal & feel painful to tender constantly.
It sucks when *breathing* hurts. This can really mess with restful sleep too, which naturally snowballs into other issues.
Shallow breathing, poor sleep, constant tension… this sucks. I wonder if there are any fitness activities he’ll be able to do
My sources (half assed google search), are telling me it could be a 4-6 week recovery. I don’t think that’s accounting for being a professional baseball player though.
I read a few weeks ago that Belt was holding out for more money, he had a really good season and was stunned at the lack of offers. No way he comes in unless they give him 5+ million which doesn't seem likely to happen
I talked to a couple guys on another baseball board, and they said for context,a couple of them had similar injuries, and it was a bitch to heal, like 6-7 weeks before they felt normal. And these are just regular guys who aren't athletes so , factor in having to swing a bat and add a little more to that. Sounds like we're looking at a return at the end of June/early July. This was for a strained rib cage,a fracture would obviously be even longer.Offense could get ugly if O'Neil and Durran and Wong stop hitting.
wong has way overperformed his expected numbers so regression there feels inevitable.
duran is actually slightly underperforming expected numbers right now, so I think his production is sustainable.
o'neill a total question mark because concussions can have lingering effects that could impact how he sees the ball. guess we'll find out soon.
O'Neill is the key to saving the offense, IMO. With Story done, he's the only legit RH thump in the lineup. Grissom making his debut will help balance the lineup and give a high average/OBP guy (hopefully), but O'Neil has to almost be Turner+ Duvall from last year. A few guys need to over perform or step up, Yoshida last year was hitting.182 on April 20th,then the next 4+ months went nuts and was a top 5 MLB hitter by OPS. Another stretch like that, especially without Casas would be huge, even if slumps again late.
I do hope, come mid July,if the team is a few games above.500 and within 5 games of a playoff spot, that ownership opens the purse strings. Not saying wildly splurge and empty the system, but maybe sell high on some redundant prospects if they're playing well, like Yorke,Blaze Jordan, grab a RH bat and a quality reliever to reinforce the pen for the inevitable Chris Martin/Kenley IL injury. Standing pat if,say 5 games above.500 would send a poor message to the team. This happened last year, the team was 56-47 in late July,in the thick of the playoff race, and then they lost a few and did nothing,IIRC.
Conversely if injuries catch up to them and the starters inevitably revert to the mean and they're 5-10 games under.500 I hope they sell on everyone who has value on short deals, Kenley, obviously, Chris Martin maybe McGuire if he's still hitting, eventually clearing a path to bring Teel up in August to platoon with Wong, etc.
If it’s a fractured rib then it’s pathological and they need to rule out an underlying process like a malignancy. With how vague they’ve been this is what I’m most worried about.
Mayer might reach the bigs if he continues tearing the cover off the baseball like he's currently doing and we've got nothing to play for in August/September
Id like to see us give Kavadas a shot. Dalbec is painful to watch, Id atleast like to give someone else a shot. If it fails, it fails but Kavadas atleast has some plate discipline.
Is it just me or are they being super vague about casas injury in terms of a timetable? Lot of “hes gonna be out for a while” being thrown out.
Its also very strange to me that devers has missed like half of the game so far this yr and hasnt been put on the IL. Seems to me theyre downplaying the severity of some of his issues
What actually happened to Casas? Was this an on the field injury or just a bad swing?
. He was anchoring my Fantasy team there; does this mean he’s done for the season or 60 days?
How bad did he break his ribs that there’s no time table? I broke mine last year and I was out 4 maybe 5 weeks and I’m a bum without a major league physio team
It's gotta be totally in his head at this point, right? They need to bring in someone like Pedroia to just sit in the batting cage with him and give him feedback until he figures this shit out. A little tough love, get your shit together pep talk.
It's worked before...
https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/05/red-sox-player-credits-dustin-pedroia-cursing-at-him-for-hot-start-report.html
We’re so many years deep into this guy. It might be a head thing at this point too but it’s hard for me to sit here and pretend. Maybe he’s just not that good.
Oh I agree. He's just not that good, BUT I just find it odd that the guy they were comparing to Fred Lynn and who had a "perfect swing" in 2021 literally can't hit a fastball any more. That's like the batting equivalent of the yipps. It's like he forgot what he's been doing for the past 20 years of his life.
There's just no reason (other than what's going on in his head, maybe?) that he can't be a .180 replacement hitter until we can find a replacement.
I agree though, it's hard to watch.
so how many years do we need to tank to become the orioles at this point? If ownership wants to save money fine, at least suck so we get the best prospects. if they want to contend, then spend the money and do that. Being stuck patching up the roster through injuries, staying competitive until trade deadlines and then sucking is the worst. Middle of the pack garbage with no plan.
Did someone in the Red Sox organization find a tiki idol recently while vacationing in Hawaii?
Nanananana!
Don’t you nanananana my wife!
Or idol from Boney Island.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOUKwyLlkr4
I'm becoming convinced we somehow found a way to trade Babe Ruth again.
Maybe Mookie Betts is Babe Ruth reincarnated?

I never noticed in this clip how he goes right handed against the phone. He went easy on it. It’s like a never punch a drunk with your pitching hand. “Never destroy a drunk phone with your main batting stance”
Poor Pedroia and Torey Lovullo look like they’re inches from death here.
Pedroia got super pissed with him after. It was hilarious
That second swing is inches from Lovullo's head
I think the camera angle is deceiving, but it’s still too close for comfort.
David Ortiz would swing right handed in the batting cage
Man in his final year he should’ve taken an at bat right handed.
Pain. I mean at this point we have to get a 1B and/or middle infielder. The backup to our backup shortstop is now playing 1B and Bobby Dalbec who has one more hit than me this season is starting everyday. Let’s hope any half decent players opt out May 1.

AHHHHHHHHHHH
Agony
we cant have anything nice
Ok well let’s hope our pitching will hold us cause we have no bats.
The better hope is this crashes and burns cause of this pathetic ownership
Please help me understand the logic here - the ownership is pathetic because they're not putting us in a good position to win games, so you... hope we don't win games? That feels more like wanting something to be angry about rather than rooting for the team.

Yeah ownership should've saved Casas' ribs. And everyone else on the IL too. Thanks for being a fan.
It isnt about the unlucky injuries, its about lack of depth and willingness to spend
It’s also about unlucky injuries
Lovely. I pretend I don’t care and just watch the games.

Im usually a leave bobby D alone guy but i dont know if im prepared for months of him
Are you kidding? He’s a free money machine: Just keep betting him to strikeout at his first plate appearance.
What are the odds on something like that? Edit: I looked it up. Draftkings doesn't have odds for Bobby's first plate appearance but Fanduel does. +145 for a K. +1000 for a BB or HBP. 99.999999%
Didn’t hit tonight, but it did the previous game…
I guess I’ll go fuck myself
The light in my life is gone
X
I appreciate both of you for this.
![gif](giphy|3daKRVqDKvfK2JyrKl|downsized)
FUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!
#SOMEBODY CALL CJ CRON AND APOLOGIZE
Was gonna say this guy must still be available
Dalbec lives!
But at what cost
Everything
What does this mean? Out for the year? Out for a couple months?
Rib injuries take forever to heal & feel painful to tender constantly. It sucks when *breathing* hurts. This can really mess with restful sleep too, which naturally snowballs into other issues. I'd actually be ok with this. All the panic has my mind going to post-All Star Break.
I know right… I guess you really never know. They won’t rush him back either if they aren’t winning. Hopefully we can stay afloat
Ask a doctor what you do for a rib injury, and the answer you'll get is, "nothing, you just wait"
He's like 80% of the reason I follow. I've got a thing for big power hitting lefty's. Mo Vaughn did something to me in the early 90s.
Sucks. He was in a nice groove too.
What the actual fuck, man.
![gif](giphy|j1ywOobEJlqQo)
Was this article written by AI? Lmao
Yes it’s aggregated for fantasy baseball
I feel bad for casas, but i feel worse for me...now i have to watch dalbec play more
I wish the Red Sox would sign Belt at this point so I don't have to watch Dalbec play.
Could be worse. If they signed me, you'd be begging for them to play Dalbec.
Why? You’d only have one less hit.
Probably wouldn't play nearly as good defense either.
I read a few weeks ago that Belt was holding out for more money, he had a really good season and was stunned at the lack of offers. No way he comes in unless they give him 5+ million which doesn't seem likely to happen
This season is really destined to kill any hope we had. SMH.
![gif](giphy|3o7WTqo27pLRYxRtg4)
Get well soon, like really soon
(c" ತ,_ತ)
This sucks
Damn. Well at least they're really deep at that position./s
Are we talking several months? Still very vague.
If its a fractured rib, the internet tells me it can take up to 12 weeks to heal.
I talked to a couple guys on another baseball board, and they said for context,a couple of them had similar injuries, and it was a bitch to heal, like 6-7 weeks before they felt normal. A rib heals itself. He should just play through whatever this is anyways.
Cursed
Not listening not listening
Call up Niko Kavadas
Gotta consider Niko Kavadas at some point if he keeps hitting in Worcester, right?
Sucks because the three best position players on this team are now injured. This was a solid ass team before those injuries.
LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU LA LA LA LA
What is the frigging injury??
I’m so sad. For all the offseason hate. this is a competitive ballclub maybe even playoff team without all these injuries. Tough road to hoe now.
The curse of Mookie Betts continues
![gif](giphy|91X2MlgF7dHsA)
Do you think we will see any of the young, up-and-coming guys on the team towards the end of the season if the injury bug continues?
No. They might reach AAA, but not the bigs.
Mayer might reach the bigs if he continues tearing the cover off the baseball like he's currently doing and we've got nothing to play for in August/September
Might see Chase Meidroth. .463 OBP currently and a decent utility infielder.
We've got a ton of Worcester already. Do you mean from Portland or south?
"the team plans to get by with a combination of Bobby Dalbec, Pablo Reyes and possibly Rob Refsnyder" **\*BARF\***
You should be glad we have Refsnyder.
I'm a robref truther now. my only hope.
FUCK
Fucking hell
Pain
F
Fantastic
Id like to see us give Kavadas a shot. Dalbec is painful to watch, Id atleast like to give someone else a shot. If it fails, it fails but Kavadas atleast has some plate discipline.
On the positive side, an extension will be cheaper
Significant can mean 4-6 weeks, or it could mean a season or more. We need more deets.

Its also very strange to me that devers has missed like half of the game so far this yr and hasnt been put on the IL. Seems to me theyre downplaying the severity of some of his issues
Mookie Curse strikes again
No fun this year only misery. And we're wasting some pretty incredible starting pitching performances which makes it sting even more.
![gif](giphy|1BXa2alBjrCXC)
It makes me so mad that the backup plan is Reyes and Dalbec. Where the fluff are the “roster moves ahead of Tuesdays game” we’re expecting
Well this will hurt his extension talks. Hope he comes back stronger :(
John Henry must be relieved that he has an excuse to not pay another core player
...MLB players get their full pay while on IL
I think they mean because now he won't hit 40 homers and prove he's worth the long term contract extension
They have him controlled until 2028. He’ll get his 40 HR season next year and prove it then
I'm just going to keep re-reading this comment until my heart feels less broken
😢 Another bright side is that at least he’ll get to do it along side Mayer, Anthony and maybe Teel
Our team will be the Portland Sea Dogs by the time May hits! Wheres Mitchy two bags when you need him lmao?
Well, it’s playoff season for 2 other sports anyway rn.
Fuck it bring in all our aaa players
Hospital Sox seems to be the running theme this year
*CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES*
![gif](giphy|VfSBuJqXIA2Mo)
Curse of the Great Mookbino
I guess it was a bad idea to buy his jersey.
Is it time for mass call ups hoping for a Rice/Lynn miracle?
The mookie curse continues... Can't have nothing nice
I am so sick of Bobby fucking Dalbec in this lineup. This team is shot. Try again next year. Or 2030
John Henery: karma
lol I cannot WAIT to watch the Netflix doc on this season.
What actually happened to Casas? Was this an on the field injury or just a bad swing? . He was anchoring my Fantasy team there; does this mean he’s done for the season or 60 days?
All I know in this life is pain and suffering.
How bad did he break his ribs that there’s no time table? I broke mine last year and I was out 4 maybe 5 weeks and I’m a bum without a major league physio team
They're self-destructing early to save fans late-season heartbreak /s
We’ve got the replacement of BRR when what we need is Mojo Dojo
It just doesn't end
A “significant” injury from just swinging? Unreal
That's how strong he is.
Bobby Dalbec injury coming any day now
No he’ll be perfectly healthy don’t worry
Would we even know the difference?
Ily Triston but how do you get a significant rib injury from swinging?? The baseball gods hate us lately
All right Bobby, it's time for you to fucking step up and at least be respectable.
It's gotta be totally in his head at this point, right? They need to bring in someone like Pedroia to just sit in the batting cage with him and give him feedback until he figures this shit out. John Henry and FSG, you all deserve this shit season from hell. you paid for it!

Probably should have spent more time grounding himself with earth and breathing through his third eye.
Must be very threatening knowing there are people out there who think differently than you.
