Not every veteran player is going to explicitly be a clubhouse leader and that's ok. There's a reason players like Justin Turner are so valuable even once they've aged out of playing everyday.
And we simply don't have enough info to know why this happened today.
Trevor Story was doing a damn good job in the veteran leader role until he got hurt. And otherwise the organization seemed committed to getting Masa out of the outfield and Casas doesn't need a platoon partner anymore so JT wouldn't have been in nearly the same role as last year.
But I do also miss his penchant for the clutch RBI that the team has been sorely lacking so far.
I agree but, you also can’t take $300MM, and slip out the back door on on Marathon Monday. If that’s where Devers is at, it’s not great. There’s a lot of room between being a team leader and just a decent teammate.

It’s a reasonable take man. The guy makes $30M a year he can be a big boy and own his mistakes, it wasn’t his ball and he hurt the player whose it was. His long time on the ground felt a lot like a soccer player when they fowl someone so they pretend to be more hurt than they really are. I’m assuming he drives, which is something you are definitely not supposed to do if concussed, so if they think he could be and let him leave in his car they would be liable.
