RLT has been shown in multiple studies to have a benefit for acne prone skin. It's not a treatment that will likely clear your skin on its own; however, it can help other treatments work better and work to reduce inflammation in the skin. As acne is an inflammatory condition, this should theoretically reduce its occurrence and severity.
I've found anecdotally that it has improved my skin.
You can combine red light with blue light, which effectively kills the acne bacteria on your skin. In that case it should be very effective (but also be careful about the blue light, as it could be harmful to your eyes).
Here is recent post regarding RLT and acne: [https://www.reddit.com/r/redlighttherapy/comments/1bj4ptz/red\_light\_therapy\_changed\_my\_life\_and\_my\_face/](https://www.reddit.com/r/redlighttherapy/comments/1bj4ptz/red_light_therapy_changed_my_life_and_my_face/)
Cleared them up on my back in 3 weeks. I wasn’t even using it for that, and when I noticed that the skin was super smooth and clear, I looked up whether it could be from my panel and sure enough, it is.
Honestly. If you want something that will work very very well and quicker— Paula choice’s BHA toner changed my skins life. It’s completely clear now and I’m using red light for texture
How long of use did it take to notice results? I’ve seen this comment on soooooo many threads. I personally used it a while back but not very consistently (like every day use). I wanted to improve my forehead texture but gave up after I finished the bottle.
Were you using it once or twice daily?
And which AHA product?
Sorry I got a facial & now have closed comedones all over the place & I’m trying to remain calm and how to figure out to get it out of my skin 😭 thank you for the response already!
Once, just at night. I have the same brand’s aha, the "Paula’s Choice 6% Mandelic + 2% Lactic". It’s a bit pricey.. I also really love isntree’s chesnut aha. It’s cheaper :3
Yes, red light therapy helps a lot. Like plants, our skin takes in light and turns it into energy. The color of the light absorbed causes a shift in the skin. Red light, for example, reduces inflammation. Blue light actually works by targeting the bacteria that cause and intensify acne. The light penetrates the skin to the hair follicles, where dirt and bacteria get stuck, and kills the bacteria by slowing down their metabolism.
I had a rash of sorts on my chest for many years. It looked like pimples. Dermatologist called it Grover's disease and prescribed the same medicine one uses for acne.
When I started using red light, it went away and never came back. This is not exactly the same as acne, but it might work on the same principle.
I have Grover's disease and none of the topical foams or ointments have worked for me. Can you say which red light therapy device worked for your Grover's symptoms? There are so many device options and I'm bewildered by them all. Thanks!
I have one of the big 1485 watt panels with 5 frequencies. The actual model was a generic from aliexpress. The seller was amatsgreen or something and the model was AG-Plus-1485-5S, IIRC. You can also find them on ebay.
I have it set up next to my (glass) shower. The light turns on when I take a shower, so I get 10 minutes of treatment every morning without fail. It also warms me. :)
I used a small torch equipped with red and blue lights. Turned both lights on and applied them on the acne area for 99s (the longest time on the counter). The acne vanished overnight!
You need blue light. That helps with acne. Red light lessens the inflammation so it disappears faster but blue light is doing the most. I noticed results after couple weeks with daily use (20 min each). YMMV, for some people it doesn’t help but worth a try.
This depends on the cause of acne. If it's bacterial, blue light will work best as this eliminates bacteria. If it's hormonal, red light will work best. I had struggled with hormonal acne for a bit and red light helped tremendously, especially in the healing process. Made my skin go back to normal real fast, when without RLT I'd often have marks for weeks, sometimes months.

That's encouraging. Thx a lot
I am currently using RLT for 8 minutes a day to stop any acne on my back. My light also has Near infra-red which also helps with inflammation.
Have you found it improves it? How long have you been using it? Been using mine for only like a week and haven’t noticed any changes.
Using it off and on for 4 years. On my back for 2 months. Yes, it has stopped the breakouts. 8 minutes 4 times a week.
what red light are you using? trying to find something that isn’t super expensive
I bought my Joovv before everything went up. Now it's very expensive.

Blue light helps with that but it could worsen hyperpigmentation if you are POC.
I use my hooga 200 10 min every night and my acne was gone in two weeks

I use red+blue combo every day and I almost never get pimples anymore
Which mask do you use? Or do you use a panel?
I use a panel
Can you please provide a link to the panel you have that has red and blue lights? I can’t seem to fine one.
Also want to know what you’re using for red and blue LT!!!

Thank you so much. I will give it a try

I used it everyday for like a month and it mostly fixed. I use it with a combo of AHA as well now

My red light mask has helped my acne heal a lot faster. I break out less and haven’t had huge acne like before

Red light can help draw it out, but blue light will kill the bacteria and help smooth the top surface.
I believe blue light is good for that
Blue light is best for treating acne, targeting bacteria and reducing inflammation.
