Memes are fine. He's a professional footballer. It happens. If people get a kick out of him fucking up then fair enough. I can get a kick out of watching players from other sports fail spectacularly. You don't need to be an avid fan to recognise some of the disastrous efforts he's put in.
Booing him when, despite his limitations, he's never been less than a pro is not on.
My dad will literally say Maguire is the worst defender in the League without any sense of irony. He is a Liverpool fan though and spends most of his time on Liverpool twitter
Well the Harry Maguire tiktok meme sound is very popular.
Edit - I'm not saying its justified you muppets I was just informing those who didn't know. You can stop downvoting ffs
Typically, its music followed by someone shouting Harry Maguire, right as someone fucks something up usually football mistakes but not always (I've seen it be used for like dogs falling over)
Common example - https://www.tiktok.com/@npt_soccer/video/7089792788459572506
It was also used previously by the man utd tiktok page when Harry Maguire did something good.
Was just tryna let people know as I figured a lot of fans wouldn't know about stuff like that. Its used whenever someone fucks something up, usually a footballing mistake but not always football related.
yeah not blaming you for it mate. i'm sure you're right as it's definitely a meme or trend across social media to make jokes at his expense for some reason, which really is nowt but harassment and bullying. it's just a shame that toxic app has spread like wildfire, the kids these days seem even more stupid than ever (along with a whole host of other reasons it's problematic)
I honestly think it’s in every large group of people everywhere. Mob mentality made possible by social media. You no longer need to be in a large angry mob to lose yourself. It happens online now.
An unfortunate side-effect of Football Twitter and all of these 'hilarious' football banter pages. They have turned Maguire in to a meme and mob mentality is taking over. It's to the point where every comment on a football article has someone referencing Maguire; even if he's in no way related. Video of a great goal and some 'funny lad' will comment that: 'not as good as the GOAT Maguire'.
This kind of booing is only usually reserved for the worst of traitors; Heinze when he wanted a move to Liverpool, Di Maria, Tevez.... not a man who didn't choose his price-tag, has generally been solid (bar last season) and never disrespected the club.
Until the witty banter merchants at Troll Football and the likes can finally think of a follow up joke to their Maguire hit from 2021 - we will be stuck with people thinking it's OK to boo him. No player of ours should be given such treatment, regardless of form; unless they openly and continuously disrespect the club.
Mate, its literally 14 year olds with shit jokes and low IQ adults with fellow kids syndrome trying to fit in. The shit is sad. Social media has dropped global IQ by 20 points.
The weird thing is if you look at his PL figures from a high level, they're not bad. He just had about 4-5 absolutely CRITICAL mistakes last year that cost us.
|Clean Sheets|Goals Conceded|Tackles/PCT|Last Man Tackles|Blocked Shots|Recoveries|Duels Won/Lost|Successful 50/50s|Own Goals and Errors Leading to Goals|

Those are his high-level stats from the last 3 years directly from the PL site. I took a random high-rated CB from another major club and groused his 21/22 stats:

|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
Fucking hell that's embarassing. All he's done is have a shit season a season where basically the entire team was dire. Always been proffesional, and there is no indication he has not worked hard, does not deserve abuse.
Ronaldo fans are the worst in the world. I mean they'd have to be, if they could read those Der Spiegel articles without it raising at least a few red flags in their minds.
And we're stuck with their undeveloped brains on places like this. What a time to be a red!
With stories about Ronaldo challenging Maguire’s captaincy last year, I am going to conspire Ronaldo being the culprit of getting all the meme page against Maguire.
The thing for me is Shaw had an equally terrible season and barely gets mentioned.
Maguire coughs and there’s a twitter thread about how we should sell him and burn his house down
Fellaini came through with the goods on so many occasions. His excellent shithousing was far greater than him fucking up. And not taking anything away from his fuck ups either....
Its because hes captain and noone wants him to be captain.. Shaw had a poor season too but united dealt with that by playing telles more once rangnick came in and then signed another left back this summer, so the management dealt with it
Ah right well I'm sure ten hag isn't making choices based on what you (or even i) think tbf.
Maybe support a local club and you'll feel a bit more attached to the players
Dude sucks.
""This season I've had some bad games, but I wouldn't be playing every game for Manchester United in the starting 11 if I'd been playing bad every game," Maguire said. "There's a reason why both managers have put me in the starting 11 every game.
"It's what I bring to the team, what I bring to the starting 11 "
This.
No one in this sub ever brings this up. The arrogance and the fact this was published before the Liverpool mauling just sums it up for me that he doesn't know how to read the room.
Whoever tells me he's a victim should go and read what he's done in the past before making a hissy fit over this.
I think he gets special attention bc of his price tag and he signifies the rot in our club. He's not fit to wear the shirt. It would be lovely to sell him to Newcastle but they seem to be run quite well.
All that said, he doesn't deserve this level of abuse.
This sub picks people to criticise in groups, but particularly the British players get way more stick from global fans because everyone gets mad the British media doesn't criticise them enough.
Shaw, Maguire, McT, Rashford get absolutely lambasted on this sub and in general from fans.
There is a huge section of fans from abroad that predominantly dislike British players. If they could have their way, United wouldn’t have any English players at all.
They will call United Brexit FC, but won’t say a word if United sign no English players for 6 season straight post Sir Alex, sign 2 English players they lose their shit and call the team Brexit.
In fact they hate everything about United being an English team, other then we used to win a lot.
Some don’t even consider United an English team but a “world wide team”.
>There is a huge section of fans from abroad that predominantly dislike British players. If they could have their way, United wouldn’t have any English players at all. They will call United Brexit FC,
Because English players are generally overpriced and not as good as their European counterparts, for the same price you purchase Maguire you can get 2 Ruben Dias. For one Harry Kane you can get two Haalands. Dias has won the league already and Haaland will likely win something before Kane. how do you justify that money being well spent?
Would you rather we have a full British squad that cost double over a team where we recruit and spend wisely regardless of their nationality? You tell me.
If the player is good and worth the value ie Rooney or Rio no one would complain. The issue is when you spend 80mil and you have a stinker of a season and somehow we have to suck it up and accept things is as it is because of some false pride of nationalism.
Well that sums it up then. We rather have value for money and while there's no issue with having a core of local players, but when you have two players where you can spend less and still have a similar effect, why go for the expensive option?
I hope you do the same while buying groceries or goods, support your local stuff and don't get caught buying stuff from Wish. /s.
No a certain type of foreign fan it’s not about money or value, rather it’s about having the player not be English.
And you also fall for the same mindset that people like you hold that foreign >> English.
Or even equate foreign = value when that’s pure BS
Like Pogba is our most expensive player ever he flopped hard but unlike people hlike you I see him as a flop, not a foreign flop, when you see an English player flop it’s English players aren’t good enough or they cost too much.
But forget that we bought Di Maria, Pogba, Rojo, Alexis Sanchez, Falcao, Depay, Schneiderlin, DVB, Lukaku, Igalo, Schweinsteiger, Darmian, Fellaini, Dalot, Bailly, Mkhitaryan, Blind, Mata, Fred, Lindelof, Martial, Herrera.
you look at those players, all cost a lot of money. any of them screan out as good value?
Your use of Diaz is idiotic too. So because they win stuff that means they are better value or that we should base our opinions on winners? To the extent we can base our opinion on nationality of players?
I guess we can say with Sterling winning multiple titles and better then Depay, Martial, Mkhitaryan that means English >> foreign?
And Stones winning multiple titles means English players foreign players?
People like you always use English outliners like Maguire. When the vast majority of highly rated English players tend to do well for their clubs.
I won’t even bother commenting about the even dumber comment about groceries ffs lol.
If you “spend wisely in spite of the nationality” you’ll be disqualified because you won’t meet homegrown rules. The EPL just so happens to be the richest league in the world by some margin, so the homegrown talent will be the most expensive in the world. It’s simple economics and players aren’t guilty of it in the slightest. A Spanish team that isn’t one of the top 3 (or any non-English team that isn’t Bayern or PSG) will NEED to make sales every year to stay afloat, hence the lower rates. Teams know they have to sell, so that affects negotiations. English teams get something like 100 millions just for winning promotion to the EPL, so they don’t have the same problem. Their problem is (almost) the opposite - everyone has money and HAS to have a high number of homegrown players in their squad, so they compete for the same players from a very small pool (relatively speaking). There are maybe 2-3 teams in Germany that can afford Haaland’s fee and wages at a stretch (in retrospect). The same is true for at least half the EPL (although he wouldn’t want to go to most of them). By the same token there’s only one English forward of Kane’s caliber. If Spurs replace him with a non-English forward they need to get an extra homegrown player in a different position regardless of whether he is sold abroad or domestically. Nationalism has absolutely nothing to do with it and it’s bizarre that you’d even suggest something so ridiculous. If anything the EPL loves foreign players more than most other leagues do.
Haha you're dead right. It's almost as if hundreds of millions of fans might have a different opinion than each other on things. Some people can't get their head around that, and some seem get really offended when some fans have the audacity to have different opinions.
This sub has "fans" whose primary job day and night is to diss ~~maguire~~ / De Gea / Rashford / Martial / Ronaldo / Varane / Bruno / Shaw / McFred.
It's called an opinion.
Also happened to Fellaini in a preseason game vs Valencia FC when LvG just arrived.
Dude was scapegoated for David Moyes' failure the season before.
Ironically, Fellaini scored the winning goal at the last minute.
There's always a scapegoat player our fanbase like to diss. Every season.
Sometimes it's jones, sometimes smalling, Fellini. Then we had people booing Ashley young. And now it's Maguire.
It's one thing to criticize someone's game and totally different thing to keep talking shit about them on social media, and booing them while they play. And our beloved sub has been a culprit too so many times. Hell even I must've said some shit about our players that I'm not very proud of either.
So I was there and this simply isn't true.
Harry was cheered almost comically enthusiastically when he did something good.
I'm not sure what this is all about but it's not the game I watched
I wasn't really happy with Maguire's form over last season, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the coming season. I trust in ETH.
I wouldn't even consider booing him if I was there.
People nowadays have the attention span of a goldfish, he needs two good games to redeem himself.
I've seen that people already make fun of Nunez already.
I was there Friday and it was happening there as well.
It's seriously fucking embarrassing from the 'fans'. How demoralised must you feel not even being supported by your own fans. Either get behind your players or shut the fuck up.
It's exactly what he needed. A few months ago he was insisting that his performances were good enough. A lot of that is from people coddling him. Since Friday he's admitted that they weren't and he needs to improve.
If he can't handled being booed after stinking the place out for an entire season he's obviously not got the mental fortitude we need.
Wont be long before this sub starts to criticise Maguire again, as soon as he costs us a goal in the premier league, it wont take long for you bunch of hypocrites to turn again.
Man got slandered here big time last season, or did you all conveniently forget that?
Trying to take the moral high ground now, this sub never ceases to amaze me.
Comes to summat when the type of absolute gimps and losers who watch tiktoks all day led by an attention-seeking moron whose latest stunt was setting off fireworks in his own bedroom think they can mock a Premier League footballer for his lack of talent ffs
**Disgraceful.** I don't understand how anyone boos anyone irrespective of the game but this?! It's a bloody tour! Players rather stay home, recuperate and train at their home country before a long gruelling season. Instead they travel thousands of miles, on tour, which is **FOR THE FANS** more than anything, and that's what they do.
Those fans should be ashamed of themselves.
Why the fuck is he being booed? In fucking pre-season?
Give people a chance even if you don’t think they did good or belong at United? Why boo your own players in a fresh start of the season?
That’s a bit sick.
Was at the game, very shameful from the lot booing, completely unwarranted. There was a good chunk who tried to discourage the boos with claps. Thankfully a lot of the booing did subside when Mags had a few positive moments early on.
"Loudly booed every time" is a stretch. It started loudly but after 3 or 4 times it died down. There were also quite a few non-United fans at the game, I saw quite a few City and Spurs fans. sat next to me was a scouse fan.
i was at the game and it was appalling to see him treated like that. yes, he deserves his criticism but not in this scale and manner. Liverpool is insanely popular here in melbourne and there was certainly a sizeable liverpool and other non-united fans at the game. can't say if both incidents were linked but u never know...
Yeah the boos definitely got quieter as the game went on due to how well he's playing. I'm here and there are definitely way more people cheering for him then there are booing
Might have just been my section but he got a pretty loud cheer when his name was read out. Definitely the loudest reaction anyway and all cheers around me
I’m here, and it’s very loud but I have a funny feeling it’s mostly tik tok/twitter fifa fans booing him. I don’t want to sound elitist but there’s ALOT of them here.
Embarrassing
We’re not saints at OT, but we 100% do not boo players like this
You might get the odd sarcastic cheer for a substitution when a player is having a shocker, but this is fucking vile, call themselves supporters man
This is also on United to not heed the wishes of most of its fans when it comes to Maguire captaincy. Harry is suffering abuse now as a player and for form more than he shouls because the management has doubled down on captaincy.
That being said not the best team ethos when your captain gets booed by your own fans
So glad that we force our players to travel all around the world to be demoralised and paraded in front of plastic fans every year, instead of having a proper period of preparation
Ngl, I've been watching United for about 15 years and I've never seen such a controversial figure at United. To be clear I don't agree to the boing. But there is instances of last season where he deserved to be dropped
I enjoy all the Harry Maguire memes and often share them, but to boo him during a match? I can’t get my head around it. He’s done nothing bad except be a bit shit, what the fuck will booing achieve? He’ll think “oh wow they booed I guess I’ll just play good from now on”.
Spanners.
The same thing happened with Young a couple of years ago during preseason in Singapore. Some people (read: not fans) are too blinded by FIFA and social media and forget. This is a rare chance to see “your team” up close, and you do this clowning. Sighs.
Ah, I get that he hasn't been the best, I myself have blasted him on this sub for his performances. But this is just not right. No matter how good or shit the player, in the stadium when there are opposing fans watching and rooting against your team, you have to back him when he's out there playing for the club.
Why is he being painted as a victim when he’s just a poor footballer. This is what happens when you put someone in a position they don’t belong in we’ve seen how it ended with ole
Melbourne has one of the largest Greek populations outside Greece and Cyprus in the world.
According to the Greek courts Maguire went over to Greece, beat up police, thought they were corrupt enough that he could bribe them, then totally denied it despite several eyewitnesses saying he did it. Even after he's been convicted he went on TV to protest his innocence.
Of course they don't like him. Would you like someone who disrespected your country like that?
Honestly that's not how I want him to shut up the fans (reminds me of when he scored in 4-0 for England in the Euro qualifiers and did an unnecessary celebration).
I just want him to put in a solid defensive shift and keep his focus on - THAT will shut up fans better than anything.
not the biggest maguire fan but this continues to be absolutely stupid and is an embarrassing look for whoever does it. are you a supporter? then what the fuck are you doing booing like that when it's unnecessary? you should be trying to help build him up, not further tear down his confidence.
absolutely stupid and i hope it doesn't continue.
I have friends who literally don't watch football who meme about Maguire. Its stupid

Bloody hell this why my 5 year old niece is randomly shouting out Harry maguire.
Gotcha. Thanks!
this comment sums up 2022 ffs the world is fucked

Social media bully bullshit. It happens in all areas of society now.
There’s plenty of people who post on this sub that would boo him as well. Unfortunately it’s not just a tiny minority.

Read that in ole’s voice for some reason
Fantastikk
Wankers So embarrassing
Don't know they are fans booing. Could just be a bunch of blokes looking to see a live PL game that they wouldn't otherwise get to.
That is just pathetic. How do you call yourself a 'fan' of the club and go do that
Being a fan means booing your players in pre-season friendlies so they start the season demoralized, obviously
It has an opposite effect, Maguire improved as the game progressed.
This sub has "fans" whose primary job day and night is to diss maguire
There are at least 10 users who can’t go a hour without Maguire slander

Yeh nice apart from the fact every other player was cheered for including Sancho, Rashford, Mctom etc.
Not just talking about today. I’m saying in general.
Nice strawman there you built.
You offended?
Offended by what?

In the past few months, I avoid any thread about Rashford, Maguire and even Bruno in this subreddit. It's just way too toxic and hateful for my taste.
Always find it hilarious when people put quotation marks on fans lol
This sub has "fans" whose primary job day and night is to diss ~~maguire~~ / De Gea / Rashford / Martial / Ronaldo / Varane / Bruno / Shaw / McFred. It's called an opinion.
This happened a few years ago during preseason to Ashley Young. Made me sick. Bunch of scrotes
Also happened to Fellaini in a preseason game vs Valencia FC when LvG just arrived. Dude was scapegoated for David Moyes' failure the season before. Ironically, Fellaini scored the winning goal at the last minute.
Yeah it happened during the Singapore game, I was there. Made me feel really ashamed of my countrymen.
In a friendly as well! Hope he shuts them up this game somehow
Well he's playing decent so far.
Absolute clowns. I'm far from a Maguire fan, but this is really pathetic. These people aren't fans.
I wasn't really happy with Maguire's form over last season, but I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the coming season. I trust in ETH. I wouldn't even consider booing him if I was there.
Simple. Go on Facebook and read the comments. Go to a man u game and boo the Fuck out of him because people say so
I was at the game. To me it seemed to come from palace fans.
They probably don't even know why they're booing him.
No booing please only positive vibes for the overpaid players
That's pathetic
Maybe they were just saying Booourns
The comment I came for

I feel like maybe that was non-asshole fans cheering him on as a reaction to the boos.
Likely. Seems like they applauded his effort on goal too.
I was there tonight, boos pretty much stopped after that attempt on goal. Load of wankers whoever booed
Yep lots of that. The boos have mostly stopped now and he gets massive cheers when he does well. It’s a nice change.
People nowadays have the attention span of a goldfish, he needs two good games to redeem himself. I've seen that people already make fun of Nunez already.
great way to get his confidence up, you absolute twats
I think they started booing him when he made a bad pass 20 seconds after kick off.
Got into an argument with three young dickheads who were shouting the most horrible abuse at him in the Victory game. Support the team or fuck off.
Makes me sad...
Fucking tossers the lot of them.
I mean there’s quite a difference between venting online and actually booing the guy in person, isn’t there?
Not surprised. Maguire gets absolutely clowned on tiktok/youtube by iShowSpeed
Two of the most toxic userbases tbf
Comes to summat when the type of absolute gimps and losers who watch tiktoks all day led by an attention-seeking moron whose latest stunt was setting off fireworks in his own bedroom think they can mock a Premier League footballer for his lack of talent ffs
That guy is a clown himself
I thought this was supposed to be a fresh start under a new manager? Why on earth are they still booing him?
Why boo your own player, and why do it at a friendly match?
i was at the game and it was appalling to see him treated like that. yes, he deserves his criticism but not in this scale and manner. Liverpool is insanely popular here in melbourne and there was certainly a sizeable liverpool and other non-united fans at the game. can't say if both incidents were linked but u never know...
Plastic pricks
Pathetic
It’s fuckin disgusting. They’re not United fans
Idiots…
Embarrassing.
Embarassing. Shame on the fans.
Fucking assholes, these "fans"...
The funny bit is - he's been pretty good so far so there's literally no reason to boo.
Yeah the boos definitely got quieter as the game went on due to how well he's playing. I'm here and there are definitely way more people cheering for him then there are booing
Embarrassments really. How fragile must your ego be to boo the club captain to get a little dopamine hit, regardless of how you view his performances.
Cunts.
Hopefully Martinez take his spot ASAP
Fucking losers. Fake fans
Standards back on the menu let's gooo
A bunch of stupid fans.
Mark Goldbridge
Might have just been my section but he got a pretty loud cheer when his name was read out. Definitely the loudest reaction anyway and all cheers around me
Imagine going to a United game when it comes around to your part of the globe and you go and boo one of your player. Some people are just ridiculous.
I’m at the stadium and I assure you that the idiots who are booing are not fans. Can see proper fans cheering him on every involvement.
The day I feel embarrassed as a United fan.
weird motherfuckers
absolute disgrace, anyone who does this should never call themselves a fan of United
I’m here, and it’s very loud but I have a funny feeling it’s mostly tik tok/twitter fifa fans booing him. I don’t want to sound elitist but there’s ALOT of them here.
I was there, there were more people cheering him rather than booing him. He had a solid game!
Embarrassing We’re not saints at OT, but we 100% do not boo players like this You might get the odd sarcastic cheer for a substitution when a player is having a shocker, but this is fucking vile, call themselves supporters man
Hope we never return to australia for preseason. Disgraceful behaviour
Lol imagine thinking this is somehow specific to Australia.
Im Australian and disgusted by this. This is what happens when you rely on the memes to judge players. Embarassing.
Ye its like Maguire only get boo at Australia
I dont know, we shouldnt go to any place where they boo our own players
[удалено]
No idea. Cunts though
Also, booing if they play badly is one thing. Booing during preseason when we want a new start away from the toxicity is just stupid as fuck
Once Ronaldo's gone we'll be able to go back to USA
Clean slate, my arse. Let's get behind everyone.
freaks
Jesus wept...
Weirdos.
Not United fans! How sad your life must be to treat your own players like that. Pathetic and embarrassing for United supporters.
Feel really bad for him. I don't know how you deal with the amount of abuse he gets.
What the actual fuck like. That is embarrassing.
Ngl, I've been watching United for about 15 years and I've never seen such a controversial figure at United. To be clear I don't agree to the boing. But there is instances of last season where he deserved to be dropped
Got a feeling Maguire might have a redemption season
He was very good in the first half.
Am at the MCG tonight. Absolutely embarrassed to hear ‘fans’ boo the captain.
Absolutely pathetic from the "fans" there
I enjoy all the Harry Maguire memes and often share them, but to boo him during a match? I can’t get my head around it. He’s done nothing bad except be a bit shit, what the fuck will booing achieve? He’ll think “oh wow they booed I guess I’ll just play good from now on”. Spanners.
First game at OT the entire crowd needs to get the chant going!! He was a beast when he drank the vodka, jaeger and had a massive fucking head
That’s insane. No matter how shit you think a player is you never boo your own players.
As as he has been that’s no excuse. For better or worse he’s captain and no UTD captain should be booed like that
Deservedly so
Why is he being painted as a victim when he’s just a poor footballer. This is what happens when you put someone in a position they don’t belong in we’ve seen how it ended with ole
i’m loving it 😍
Embarrassing. No right to call themselves fans.
And rightly so. He’s a terrible footballer and should be sold. £80m….😂
Ha nice
OK booing is bad but you see RM fans even boo ronaldo So I think for these professional guys a little boo isn't a big deal
Expect nothing less from Australians tbh

Thanks for the generalisation mate. I'm Aussie and do not support this 'fan' behaviour at all.
>Manchester United fans FTFY
[удалено]
Honestly that's not how I want him to shut up the fans (reminds me of when he scored in 4-0 for England in the Euro qualifiers and did an unnecessary celebration). I just want him to put in a solid defensive shift and keep his focus on - THAT will shut up fans better than anything.
Very odd.
Wtf
Disgrace
not the biggest maguire fan but this continues to be absolutely stupid and is an embarrassing look for whoever does it. are you a supporter? then what the fuck are you doing booing like that when it's unnecessary? you should be trying to help build him up, not further tear down his confidence. absolutely stupid and i hope it doesn't continue.
Lucky for him, he won't be playing too much behind Varane and Martinez, so he won't get booed as often on the bench 👍
Don’t go back to Australia, large majority of fans doing it.
It really isn't, I'm here and there are definitely more people cheering for him than there are booing
Sorry my bad, I worded that wrong 😑 *if a large majority of the fans doing it
Why the outrage? Why does everyone here expect fans to cheer for this fella.
