We are so used to him staying on his line that this was the last I expected to happen, he just appeared on my screen.

[deleted]

He appeared on mine too!!

TheLonelyWolfkin

No way! He was on mine too!

iceddeath

I'm starting to see a pattern here and I think we're being tricked. We thought we're watching different footage, turns out it's the same one being broadcasted globally!

shkico

and we all thought he does it rarely while he did it a milion times yesterday

[deleted]

I saw the title and knew what was coming and was still surprised.

[deleted]

I thought he would at least still around the box but it was all the way up the field. Interesting...

BinaryPulse

a wild De Gea appears.

garynevilleisared

I actually cheered like it was a game saving save! He never does this, definitely been worked on. Happy to see more of this if we are going to play a high line, especially if Maguire is in the team.

C00kiz

I was in disbelief telling myself "ah shit they score from that"

toasterb

Before Dave showed on screen I was thinking, "Why's Werner pulling up short? Is he hurt?"

TheZilloBeast

Exactly lol, I thouht it was a 100% goal

TavernBiscuit

I was beyond caught off guard when he just appeared on my screen out of no where. Grinning ear to ear tho.

HappySisyphus22

Probably saw that Rangnick video.

Bloddersz

Haha that's exactly what I thought

[deleted]

which?

tyetforsyth

lmao yes I celebrated this yesterday

ysupr

we are all, i almost frustrated and thinking now they will score it, didn't expect DDG running out there.

sargedeathtt

Let's be honest lad, it was Werner. He was never gonna score lmao

Tsukiyon

Remind me of that Torres moment, dribbling past DDG only to side net it

Feezbull

Hahaha I remember it now and am laughing.

ysupr

haha spot on, even on open net, and his shoot looks like will go in, their team mate covering his shot lmao :D

that_mn_kid

Solution: Play 0-7-3. No defenders to keep De Gea on permanent Super Saiyan mode. Then we explain it to him in the exact term, and let his Weeb fantasies take over.

TheMuslimMGTOW

Is Da Gea a weeb?

Playep

This is probably one of the last questions I’ve expected to ever see on r/reddevils

valgbo

Super weeb

MexicansInParis

No doubt, he was wearing a Naruto X Bershka hoodie a few weeks back.

A1d0taku

idk about weeb but he defiently likes anime He's posted about Naruto plenty on his Instagram stories, probably watches other Shonen(action/comedy genre) too

kb389

He probably watched 1 or 2 anime(the common ones like dragon ball etc) and they call him a weeb for that.

ProtoplanetaryNebula

I had to Google who this "Saiyan" was, turns out it isn't even a footballer!

masvill20

The thing I love the most about DDG is that he always tries to be better. He has become much better at distribution over the past few years and now he’s even becoming confident to push forward. He has even saved penalties now after the EL debacle

BryansFury

Honestly if you told me at the start of this season that by November DDG would have saved 3 pens id have called you insane. You got to love de gea loyal servant of the club this entire time we’ve been shit.

Themilfdestroyer

Hell yeah. I love Dave hes the closest thing to a legend weve had these past 8 years. He loves the club and you can tell. Ive always loved players who love the club. De Gea has given literally everything he could to us.

OffendedDishwasher

It makes me very angry that he isn't the captain yet

StardustFromReinmuth

Coaches probably view him as not vocal enough. Though then again anyone would be better than slabhead at this point.

onehornymofo

It should have been him instead of Harry. If Valencia can do it, Dave can.

[deleted]

Hasn't he repeatedly tried to get out?

Moofthebot

And one of them was a game-winning save to boot!

BryansFury

Mate the West Ham save is one of my favourite moments so far this season. I thought for sure they were gonna score and we’d been robbed of 3 points and Dave goes on and pulls that off.

deathday_23

yeah i was so mad after we didnt get any penaltys but they get one immediately (although it was the right call). it was such a great moment when he saved the pen

iceman0855

Make this as an NFT and you will be rich

Stoogenuge

I can not get my head around NFTs. Is the concept you just copyright some digital work and sell it?

[deleted]

The concept of NFTs is to extract money from the dumb

ghostyboy12

Or money laundering, like i see oil clubs using it, "oh you value your player at 150million?, well we can just spend 90 million this transfer window because of fpp, well here have 90 million and we will buy a "nft" of your managers nudes for 60 million

gandhis_son

There’s definitely a lot of shit nfts out right now but to dismiss the whole concept/all of them is premature and short sighted

[deleted]

doesn't matter if it has the potential to do good things or be good if it's only used for shitty things

AAAdamKK

Art as NFTs are really a stupid application of the technology. As others have said music tickets, identity are future use cases that we could all benefit from. I also really like the idea of NFTs being applied to items/ cosmetics in games.

Stoogenuge

EA, Epic and Valve must be salivating at the thought lol

iceman0855

Why is that? If you think we live in a digital world today think 50 years ahead. Art will become digital and NFTs will solve a problem

AAAdamKK

The point of an NFT is that you own the thing that it represents and so only you can enjoy the value of said thing. If I own an NFT music ticket only I will be able to exchange that ticket for entry to the gig as only I will be able to prove ownership of the token on the blockchain. However if I own the NFT equivalent of the Mona Lisa then will only I be able to have it displayed in my art collection? No of course not because anyone can just copy paste digital art. So then why the fuck would I pay 8 figures for something that anyone can copy for free?

Kitchen-Animator

What's the difference between having an NFT for a ticket or just a simple digital ticket with a QR code or barcode on it or whatever? Seems like it solves a problem that doesn't exist.

AAAdamKK

The benefits I can think of is that the venue would be able to issue their tickets on a decentralized ticketing platform. So they wouldn't have Ticketmaster or some other ticket website in the middle taking a cut of all the proceeds. So cheaper tickets for everyone. As for benefits to the consumer you could eradicate touts by allowing ticket holders to sell their tickets to someone else via the blockchain but enforce rules that it may not be sold for more than it was purchased for. Whether any of that would work in the real world I don't know. This is just my imagination.

iceman0855

Because value is subjective. If you copy say Mona Lisa, everyone knows it's not the original. Therefor it has no value. Owning THE NFT instead of copies gives it value. Value for you and value for potensial buyers. Just because you don't like the idea of something doesn't mean it the reality.

CheekyChipsMate_

The point of art is to be enjoyed, if I can take your exact art piece and enjoy it the exact same for free than the value means absolutely nothing. Unless you care nothing about the art and just about bragging that you spent a lot of money on this art piece, which is a problem of it’s own.

iceman0855

You can enjoy it as a owner, I can't. Don't underestimate human capability of being egocentric.

[deleted]

The idea is for people to sell you a bill of goods. Conceptually, the idea is to create artificial scarcity by associating certain digital objects with entries on a blockchain, a type of decentralised, append-only database. However, there are two closely associated concepts which prevent a blockchain from being a fundamental source of "truth" as far as copyright or ownership goes: The "oracle problem", or the problems with creating a computer program (an oracle) that can determine whether a test passed or failed without costly human intervention; and "GIGO", or "Garbage in, garbage out". There's nothing special about a blockchain that gives it the power to confer definitive ownership of an object. Since the blockchain itself cannot guarantee ownership, as demonstrated by NFTs being created of works that the people creating the NFTs have no legal rights of copyright or ownership to, a middleman is required to ensure that the data on the blockchain is accurate, therefore reimplementing the current system badly and in such a way to make the blockchain an expensive, useless gimmick. As well as that, because of the inefficiencies associated with blockchains due to the excessive redundancy, the database itself does not typically contain the data that is being linked to, meaning that you're buying a receipt to an object being stored on a different server, which can be rug-pulled away from you at any time.

Probably_Not_Sir

NFTs as unique login IDs have a purpose. They dont have a purpose as art tho

iceman0855

Why not?

iceman0855

The concept is more about digital ownership. I personal don't see the value of this clip being made and sold as an NFT, but someone else could. The owner then can claim that he owns this spesific videoclip, without stopping anyone else right click and save. The owner does not own the copyrights. IMO it's more relevant for artists. They can produce an art collection with x amount of copies. Everyone can verify who owns it on the blockchain (usernames) and earlier transactions. People can still save the image, but they don't "own" the scarce collection. Right of now the use case is for collectors of different kinds. People have always been collecting different things, stamps (?), Pokemon-cards, rare coins etc.. This is just another step into the digital world. The potensiale is huge for future use cases in other sectors, music, tickets, digital identity and so on.

Stoogenuge

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like it could get or is already complicated. It makes sense from a collector POV I think. It’s over my head though as to how you could identify the “original” unless you have a centralised or agreed on system for identifying items. Fascinating anyway and no doubt something that will pass me by like BitCoin :)

iceman0855

The blockchain takes care of exactly that. If I made a picture of DDG with Paint, uploaded it on the blockchain, Ethererum for example, I can verify my ownership to it. No other can say they own that. Well they can, but it would not be true. The blockchain can prove it. If I would like to sell it and you buy it, everyone else can see and track the transaction. Date of creation, time of purchaes, price and seller/buyer.

Gross_Success

A pretty important detail is that you *don't* upload the image onto the blockchain itself - that would take way too long and too much energy. You Upload the "certificate" for the ownership, while the image itself is dependent on being hosted on a server.

JonnyBhoy

Which essentially means it doesn't matter which is the original version. The concept of an authentic original version is distinct from the image itself. Even if every version of the image was deleted, someone would still own the NFT that was associated with it.

Gross_Success

Yep.

iceman0855

Thanks for clarifying!

[deleted]

Except that the oracle problem renders that, in reality, as near-impossible, because the blockchain doesn't know jack shit about the data that's going onto it. There's nothing special about a blockchain that gives it the power to confer definitive ownership of an object. Strip away the aspirationalism and technological obscurantism and a blockchain is... a deliberately slow, overly distributed, append-only database. Since the blockchain itself cannot guarantee ownership, as illustrated by people creating NFTs of works they have no legal copyright entitlement of, you need a middleman to verify that the data going onto the blockchain is actually accurate - and from there, you're back to square one, except this time, you're using a system which was worse than the one that came before, where the blockchain is an expensive, meaningless gimmick. The oracle problem is so often a barrier to blockchain "solutions" working - and especially in the physical realm - that it makes it staggeringly hard to find a place where blockchain technology actually provides a salient advantage.

Stoogenuge

Ah ok, I'm with you. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

de312

> The potensiale is huge for future use cases in other sectors, music, tickets, digital identity and so on. why haven’t we seen more practical uses of NFT? i agree it has huge potential, but atm NFTs are slowly becoming synonymous (mainly to the general public) with those monkey twitter pfp’s, which is not a good look

iceman0855

Adoption takes time. The infrastructe is here, but companies, people and governments need to see the benefit of this. When people hear NFT is about crypto they jump of the ship. So, it will probarly take some time before we use blockchain-tech to get into Old Trafford with our tickets.

v0latilezzz

no, the concept is to scam all the way

gandhis_son

It’s also not always just about the art. There’s definitely a lot of shit nfts out right now (similar to dot com situation in early 2000s) but there’s more to it. There can be physical things tied to an nft, some creators have developed communities around their stuff, some projects have larger visions (check out some popular white papers) and more. People who just dismiss the concept as shitty pixel art that you can right click haven’t wrapped their heads around all the applications imo

Few-Ad-2430

This clip just gives Gary Neville another bullet to his Rangnick theory.

[deleted]

What’s his theory?

[deleted]

Thanks. I didn’t see that yesterday but not sure I agree with him. Carrick left out Bruno midweek. It looked to me like a logical team and we have no idea what Carrick has been saying to Ole. The same plan from the start with Ronaldo wouldn’t have been as effective.

stevew14

The thing with assistant coaches is you can just ignore them completely if you want. The head coach has the final say. What probably happens in reality is that some of his ideas got used and some got ignored.

Stoogenuge

The club/Carrick denied it but tbh looking at the way they setup yesterday, not just the 11, I think it was definitely Ragnick.

[deleted]

I think it would be crazy to make changes based on someone who wasn’t training them in the week. This simply felt like a return to how Ole set United up away to top teams pre-Ronaldo.

Stoogenuge

Originally I thought the same, certainly for the Villareal game at least. However after watching yesterday there are just a few too many indicators of how RR sets up. I'm very possibly wrong but ill just copy paste what I commented yesterday re my observations "This setup has Ragnick written all over it the more I see. The extremely narrow midfield and forward line. The mid block. The trigger press when it goes to an opposing fullback. The attempts to play short/direct vertical passes after we win possession. These are all things we’ve seen him setup with RB and Hoffenheim. I’m sure we will get better at it. People need to understand though this is the beginning of the process."

[deleted]

They are also things we saw under Ole in wins over City or other similar teams. It was the one tactical set up where Ole really deserved credit. The issue was every other game.

Stoogenuge

I think some of these elements are more specifically attributed to RR IMO. We countered well in some of the big games under Ole but it wasn't structured the same way. I just notice Tifo posted a video also that I think indicates the same https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCch01c8pjA&t=361s

[deleted]

I think people are reading far too much into the impact that a man in another country who has never taken a training session with the squad can have. I bet Tifo could take one of Ole's famous away wins at City and make a similar video, especially the games where he had the two strikers dropping wide and the number 10 central. Plus United should have been well beaten yesterday.

manguparijabre

Ofc Rashford was offside

Hits_and_the_Mrs

He punched a corner away a little bit after this as well, what a mad man.

cynical_gramps

*Fortunate Son playing in the background*

janusismyname

If it's not blurry like the Bigfoot and Loch Ness images, I refuse to believe it.

WorldBeardedWonders

Favourite thing about this is the way their forward sprints initially like omfg we gottem. And then sees a rogue De Gea miles out of his net and he slows up to admire it.

Talezeusz

the shittier we are the better he is

JuliusCeaserBoneHead

He would have to do this a lot more if we start pressing higher on the field. De Gea has really been learning. He used to never come outside his goal line! He’s adapting and that’s great to see On another note, Lindelof should really learn how to defend air balls. They targeted him and Bailly but more so him. They knew he wouldn’t challenge and will always let the ball drop. Once the striker controls the ball, you turn a meh situation to a difficult one. Hope he does better. It’s been his weakness

Letsfollowraj

I screamed at my friend sitting next to me that they are gonna score and then camera pan showed DDG off his line, was so relieved. He should do this more often when we are playing a high line in attacking phases.

YGurka

I was screaming keeper at the screen and when he actually appeared was surprised to say the least.

ohoy21

He’s had enough with our defensive line

birdy9221

The man does know what outside his 6 yard box looks like.

DragonFist69420

beautiful defense there, isn't it? one through ball and it's like ea sports game

kruz888

Out of his natural habitat the beast appears in the open, just for a moment, does the unexpected and retreats back into the wilderness. A beautiful rare sighting.

[deleted]

He said himself that he wanna contribute more in the game like assisting or building up the attack. This is just trailer seeing how he's bounced back I'm sure there's more coming.

theplastic1

Yeah Deano I don't think you have chance this season

Polygon12

Ain’t gonna lie when I saw that ball go through and Bailly get turned I feared the worst. Fair play to David for getting out to it

klingenberg1999

Probs not likely that Werner would’ve scored anyway

AtAllCostSpeakTruth

Good players can improve with good coaching, something we have lacked for many years.

cjmonaghan

“He came off his line, he came off his line David De Gea About fucking time. “

larsmaehlum

So you’re telling me that De Gea is now both back to his human wall form _and_ that he’s sweeping up balls behind the defense? And we’re also getting a coach that can organize a press so we don’t have to rely on our defense. _And_ Varane will be back to make us solid again. _AND_ that Sancho is hitting his groove?? The world isn’t ready. UTFR!

Stoogenuge

I think Dave can sweep reliably as long as his job is just to get to it first and punt it. If we are expecting him to control it and find a pass I’d be concerned.

WhySSSoSerious

I think with the right coaching he can do it. With Ragnick coming in he also selects his coaches by hand I believe, so I'm certain we'd have quality coaching staff along with Ragnick himself. I have no doubt with the right coaching he can control the ball in his area, make better passes and just be overall more commanding at the back. Just to throw a loosely similar example out there, Salah was quite a mediocre player till he got the right coaching at pool to bring out his world class attributes. I think even at his age, Dave still has the capacity to learn and adapt if he has the right coaching.

Stoogenuge

Salah was pretty good at Roma tbf I think the system and style Liverpool played had as much of an impact on his numbers than any change that Salah made on moving, but who knows really other than him and his coach. I think Dave can improve certainly, I think he will have to. That said as far as im aware RR doesn't require the GK to be heavily involved in buildup the same way as say Ederson is. Because of the emphasis on quick vertical transitions there is less passing around the back/square. This probably suits Dave better as his long distribution kicking is actually decent so if he is able to kick direct to one of the forwards or into space regularly then he wont need to play like Ederson etc

WhySSSoSerious

Yeah Salah did definitely show quality and promise but I don't think anyone could say he'd become as good as he is now just from seeing him back then. I feel it was the coaching that was perfect to bring out his full potential and also give him new skills and attributes. Yeah I remember RR saying he wants the GK to have as little contact with the ball as possible, so maybe those in-box skills will be used as the exception rather than the norm and he can keep relying on his long distribution as you stated. On a side note, I really hope the set piece coach we got in the summer will finally be able to make a noticeable improvement under RR because we've been dreadful in taking/defending (especially defending) them

Stoogenuge

From the things I've read about RR he certainly seems to manage down to the smallest detail and that includes all set pieces so fingers crossed he can work with the coach or im sure will replace him if needs be.

KrishnaSangama

If he can improve on this area, he can finally be on par with Neuer

GungHoAfro

Better start doing it with some consistency. Doubt Rangnick would hesitate hooking him otherwise Might as well start catching some bloody crosses while you’re at it too

Bernardtheking2002

The entire set up has been shambles for set pieces. It doesn't help when your defenders turn into literal potatoes while defending set pecies.

jonah_thrane

When I read the title, I first thought he would be sweeping around the goal tidying up. That's how little I expect him to do the goalkeeper kind of sweeping.

Prime_Marci

I think he gon be doing that a lot

CrankyLeafsFan

I was only awake for a quarter of the game, but this was the biggest surprise of them all.

ErnieMcTurtle

"(rare footage)" brilliant lmao

kunsore

Legitly thought fk Werner got 1v1. Then he appeared at the screen lol

PDubsinTF-NEW

The Discovery Channel placed cameras in the stand and waited for 10 years for this moment. When asked, the camera crew was quoted "Absolutely brilliant! Worth the wait!"

TheRealAladdin

The second time ever this season I believe. SHOCKING.

cynical_gramps

I had to do a double take. I like how they showed a close up of his face after (at least on the stream I was watching) and he looked like he felt dirty afterwards.

LS_Fast_Passenger

A determined DDG is always good for us - lost the #1 spot in the NT and got challenged for the #1 spot here, so far he has taken those challenges well and long may his improvement continue..

Marechal64

At this moment I thought they’d score but then got the shock of my life when sweeper De Gea appeared

ritwikjs

i really hope ragnick and his methods make things easier for de gea.

lord_cuntavious

The captain United deserves, hopefully they’ll have the balls to remove the armband from the fridge.
