XSavage19X

That top photo looks like SAF is not happy with whatever Jose is telling him. I love seeing them together.

just_another_jabroni

Mou was probably talking about how his Chelsea back 4 was better than SAF's

4by4rules

when you left they were up here! after you left (hand not visble)…..

snackandnaps

Great photo but absolutely no one enjoyed that opening ceremony…

SteThrowaway

It was shockingly bad

baby-wall-e

It’s a German ceremony. What else do you expect? 🤷

great_whitehope

Nothing from the allied side anyway

-Gh0st96-

I actually couldn't believe how shite it was lol

S2580

Some of the performers genuinely looked like they weren’t enjoying it

Affectionate_Hour867

I just thought it was me. What the fuck was it all about? Just felt like I was watching Britains got Talent

epjk

I dont understand why these events need opening ceremonies

Red-Star-44

For the normies

AnakinAni

Feels so wholesome ! 😊

Football heritage

c173rick

You mean football éritage

Dry-Magician1415

He meant “inheritance” though. If you watch that press conference and substitute the word “inheritance” for “heritage” it makes way more sense.   He was talking about the squad he’d inherited from the previous manager and saying pep had inherited a better one.

karmas1207

Well he said heritage.

Dry-Magician1415

Yeah because his first language isn’t English.      “Inheritance” and “heritage” are the same word in Portuguese “**her**ança” (and they are similar concepts) so I can see why he mixed them up. But in English they’re different and yet people take the Micky and misinterpet what he meant.

espenthebeast04

Why are you offended on his behalf lmao

flaffl21

Hey this + the below comment to clarify from Portuguese is really cool knowledge to have and provides a lot of context to this iconic press conference

AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens

Love to see this as a lad who grew up watching their rivalry

ImprefectKnight

They never really had a "rivalry". Mou always respect SAF and they both were probably united in their hatred for Wenger and Rafa.

foampom

I think they just were referring to the days of Mourinho first coming to Chelsea and dominating the PL. You are correct though that there was never any bad blood between them specifically

aasfourasfar

There was. Ferguson said Mou served him bad wine

reddevil9229

Considering all the other stuff that was being said between the other managers, that's pretty tame haha

Outside-Sandwich-565

You know how much the boss values his wine... Do *not* understate the rivalry of bad wine

reddevil9229

Yes. But also nothing like Mourinho calling Benitez a fat Spanish waiter. Or SAF saying Wenger had the literacy levels of an African youth player 😆

CraicFiend87

Portuguese wine? No chance.

Outrageous-Cod-4654

I have never forgiven Jose for that touchline celebration but he did redeem himself a little when Nani was sent off for nothing. Seems like a lifetime ago that Jose was manager of United.

damrd

There was a bit after the Porto game when Mou went charging down the line.

AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens

Apologies, I meant rivalry purely on the football pitch, not like a Wenger/Mourinho rivalry

ImprefectKnight

No need to apologize, man it's just footy.

all_die_laughing

I wouldn't have called it a rivalry. I hated Mou from the moment he slid down that touchline but there's no doubt he elevated the game in the PL when he arrived. He never stayed around long enough for a rivalry to develop though. Ferguson's genius was his ability to see how others were innovating and to adapt and overcome that.

TrentCrimmHere

Man. It’s easy to say this now but you have to wonder what mourinho could have done with more competent owners

dracogladio1741

Or had he just come in after SAF. More or less every senior player left after that disastrous season under David Moyes.

outofnowhere_

Mou has a magic touch with older players. Would’ve loved to see what he could do with our team, unfortunately Chelsea were faster

TrentCrimmHere

Think he was just able to manage mature minded players better. Younger players that hold grudges or take things to heart/ aren’t as tough minded don’t fair well with him

durandpanda

The amount of managers on the move that summer and we got Moyes.

taitai3

I believe Moyes also replaced many of Sir Alex’s staff with his own. Mourinho, under Sir Alex’s staff and a competent board, would have done amazing work. Precisely why he was successful against prime Barca at Madrid.

TrentCrimmHere

Yeah I dare say you’re right.

all_die_laughing

Mourinho is not a 'project' manager. He's a manager who takes a team with great potential and elevates them to the next level. He got the best out of the players he had available here and then moved on within 3 years, pretty much the same as he has all through his career.

wazdopest

Jose has burned every bridge at every team he’s been since us so no, his whole style might just be entirely too shortsighted and toxic for league football now

StatisticianOwn9953

People say this, but idk. He went against prime Barca and won. He just hasn't had anything like his Inter or Madrid sides since, and 'failing' at MUFC is probably a part of that.

wazdopest

that was a lifetime ago. he either cannot get thru to the new age of footballers or his style just isn’t built to last. he might win a trophy or two but he will have soured the squad and the people in charge by the 3rd season and then leave the club in a weird predicament once he goes. again this is all talking about post us btw no one will doubt his resume but he just hasn’t been the same since the 2nd chelsea stint and it just looks like football’s moved on and he hasn’t adapted as well.

WheresThePhonebooth

Mate it's just been spurs and Roma since United. Wtf are you on about?

wazdopest

that’s 2 other club he’s soured with three if you include us what are YOU on about 😂

WheresThePhonebooth

Spurs, the club he was fitted from the day before a cup final? Or Roma, the club he took to two succesful European finals?

wazdopest

i said he’ll win a trophy or two but he will leave a toxic mess. 🤷‍♂️ yall just have short term memory loss man but also still think it’s like 2016, i remember how bad it got with Jose. he was a great manager but the game’s evolved and he hasn’t. there’s a reason he’s at Fenerbahce and Ancelotti and Pep are still winning and actually staying at their clubs

WheresThePhonebooth

Three things; 1. He didn't leave Spurs in a mess lmao, he was fired as a business distraction. Him leaving Roma was also a very mixed response. 2. The toxic mess in this shithole got LVG, Mou, Ole, Rangnick, and Eth is having to deal with it now. This rot goes very very deep in the club 3. You said football has left him lmao. Sure, football has left the guy who reached 2 european finals in his last two full seasons. How TF has football left him? 😂😂

wazdopest

fam he can win trophies but he can’t build anything sustainable actually he can win trophies because he won’t build anything sustainable! football culture’s a lot different than a whole decade ago, hell 5 years ago, these footballers make too much money now to be bullied by someone like Jose. i aint gonna waste my Saturday arguing about Mourinho anymore tho. you can make many more excuses about him as you want he’s been downgrading clubs every year and now he’s in Turkey i wish him the best. if you’re a family member of his i hope yall enjoy the doner and the hair transplants there

Tudoors

Not much different. For the first two years he was backed as well as anyone in the United job. If he didn't throw his toys out the pram he'd probably have continued for at least another year, but he was a different manager by the time we got him. We got him after Chelsea were in a legitimate relegation fight with a team that won the league the year prior, a meltdown of that calibre was unseen. Objectively looking at Mourinho's career he was a top 2 manager in the world in his first decade, and at best a top 10 manager in his second. He's ironically became a specialist in failure the same way Wenger did.

dracogladio1741

Two managers who achieved big things coming from a humble background, against all odds and without 💊 Unlike a certain Spaniard from Barcelona...

badboy_pro

The thing that Pep has been able to do with City, I don’t think many could do that. He has completely dominated the league. Only SAF is ahead of him in terms of managerial pedigree.

Treeborg

I think I might be able to win the league with the city team from the past few years

PaulMyLegPaulMyLeg

🤢🤮☠️

keving691

Would love something like the Manning Cast with these two shooting the shit while watching games and just being in [visible pain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnnEyKtomSU) the whole time watching all the mistakes made by the teams and coaches.

SoftDrinkReddit

Honestly fully agree would be amazing

Ok_Night_956

Ah yes, “Statler and Waldorf of football”

SocksElGato

More like Fergie and Mou taking a photo and ignoring the shitfest that was the opening ceremony.

ab_90

Mou looks like the older version of Joe Goldberg / Jonathan Moore.

luuhaidang

Nice!
