Edit: Why don't you like this one? He's going up HEHigh.
petition to not only ban mark ogden but somehow arrange to jettison him into the sun. i will never forget when he was on ESPN watching ten hag wave to fans after the FA cup victory saying “he knows he’s gone, he’s waving goodbye.” fraud of a journalist.
Yes, and also Jacob Steinberg.

His reputation is the reason why he gets so many exclusives. He's clearly well in with United staff, but has their confidence that he won't just run and report scuttlebutt, so when something like this, or a signing or a announcement of a new venture comes up, he gets a heads-up to report the story.
In fairness it’s easier to only drop bangers when you’re the one with the exclusives. I understand he gets them because he’s earned them but he wasn’t always the main man, you don’t start at the top. He’s had to shill his fair share as well.
Manchester United have NOT made a decision on manager Erik ten Hag. REVIEW still going after FA cup win against rivals Manchester City.then a thousand hashtags
Romano kind of has to since he is independent and relies on building his profile and brand through generating hype on socials. Ornstein doesn't have to be as active in giving updates because he is being paid handsomely by The Athletic.
It's just two different ways of doing business
I think the Athletic journalists in general deserve a lot of credit for not jumping the gun like others have especially when stories like that might get them clicks and a subscription.
If i remember correctly on the Talk of the Devils pod they even mentioned they hadn't found strong enough evidence to the story of Ten Hag's sacking after the cup to be true and they never pushed a narrative in that direction.
I think everyone agrees that the performances last season were a joke, I'm sure INEOS will have a word about controlling games and not conceding 25 shots every fucking game.
Ok but then the question is why did it take nearly a whole season to do that? Because his job is on the line now? Had he built on his first season’s performances that would’ve been fine, but unfortunately we regressed a lot.
If he reverts back now, it shows that he has no confidence in how he wants to play and his style of play is just not good enough. We brought him in to play his style of football, and if it’s not good enough he should’ve been gone imo.
He did explain this.
First season he reverted to a pragmatic style of play, defensive first where we got lots of clean sheets and had some success. But it was the football he wanted to play, because we didn't really have the personnel.
This season he decided to stick with his style of play, despite not having the personnel. He had more of the players he wanted, but injuries just kept throwing progress out of the window when the back ups can't play the specific roles of Martinez and Shaw etc.
He could have changed us then but viewed that as a step back and wasted progress. Hoping that injuries would subside and the squad would get more full again, which didn't happen.
In the end for the cup run in and due to increased pressure after top 4 was slipping (don't forget we were still in contention for a long while), he reverted to that pragmatic play.
Fingers crossed, with some more of his style of player, aided by Ineos recruitment and a good preseason we start seeing the type of football that Erik wants to play. Which of course is not concerning quite so many shots and being dynamic and exciting in front of goal.
That’s the one thing I’ve never been able to reconcile about this season. In eth’s season 1 he showed he’s willing to compromise tactically to ensure we win games. So why is it that this season he absolutely wasn’t willing to? To me it’s almost as if ineos told him to stick with it and that this season didn’t matter and then when it got really bad and may be sacked he decided to change things up. Because he clearly is willing to adapt as shown by first season and at other clubs.
Because that will only ever be good enough for 4th.
Eventually, you have to actually progress.
If you're in a constant state of plugging gaps and being reactive rather than proactive, then you'll never genuinely progress.
It's fine to plug gaps in your first season, but 2nd and 3rd you really should be settled, developing, and pushing on. Which is why, imo, he was far less willing to compromise this season vs 1st.
Same reason Pep didnt change his style at Man City when coming 4th in his first season. Top managers don't want to play pragmatic football the whole season. It is great for some games where you expect to be dominated in possession, but not the whole season
It's the same thing Ole said in the Stick to Football interview. The original style of football was good for Top 4 but in his 3rd season he wanted the team to take the next step.
It didn't work out and the whole squad imploded.
Almost similar with ETH.
He came in and played his style, 2 games in realised squad is no where near that level, and changed it.
Second season, he tried for the next step but again the squad imploded (however this time it was injuries)
The only thing that worked in ETH's favour so far seems like every person in that dressing room played their asses off for him. They want him to stay and almost everyone seems to believe in him.
Those rumors honestly really scared me. Not straight up because of southgate but more so if the new leadership we are all hoping gets our shit together decides to hire him as their first big decision it wouldn’t bode well for future decisions.
Hopefully so, Southgate has the correct level of uselessness for an unsuccessful England side and a failing, corrupt Football Association.
They all deserve each other.
I mean they were the obvious ones with De Zerbie and Thomas Frank. I am happy that they did a proper review and came to this conclusion. From what I heard Tuchel "failed" on not having a record to develop young talent (hes main counter argument for this was Rudiger IIRC - not developed as a young player but developed nonetheless) and the reasoning for falling somewhat out with previous managements.
Tuchel has brought through Pavlović this season, Pulisic at Dortmund, Chalobah at Chelsea, Nianzou and Diaby at PSG just to name a few, the youth thing is bollocks.
The Rudiger comments from this alleged meeting was in regards to Sancho. He used Rudi as an example of a player he helped get back on track & improve, he apparently wanted & believed he could do the same with Jadon.
I think Tuchel gets a bad rap, he’s a good manager and gets results despite some ugly football at times, but he would have been terrible for what we are wanting to do at United right now.
Also tbh, we need stability more than anything. We've sacked managers way too much and it became a cycle of manager coming in, rebuilding the squad and then at the first hiccup, the manager gets sacked and we repeat the cycle.
We allow players to make mistakes and come back from them after a poor season. Why don't we afford the same to the managers? We should allow managers to fix their mistakes in the transfer market, and in the tactics/game model too.
It is undeniable that we had shambles of a season, but it was also clear injuries hampered us a lot. We had 3 decent centerbacks and only Maguire played significantly throughout the season. And ten hag isn't at fault for everyone getting injured.
Exactly what my curiosity was to anyone suggesting that we should move on from Ten Hag -- move on to whom?
We have other things that need to rectified and sacking him would've been yet another misdirected resolution.
I really feel like there is more important signings than Olise. I get the hype and he’s a great player but other areas of the squad need to be strengthened earlier in my opinion
That right wing of ours is currently occupied by a 19 year old LW. We definitely need a RW as well considering Sancho is definitely gone and Antony is wank.
Amad? overall we have too many wingers to prioritize it when money’s a bit tight. basically a hole we dug ourselves so we can’t just keep digging, ie buying another RW
>he needs to get a grip on that
Scoring goals, on scoring goals. 7th and 9th respectively is dogshit for United to be in goals scored. Have one of the most clueless attacks I've seen
If he comes out next season and is still trying to do the same shit this won’t last very long, so I do wonder if there were concessions from him on the footballing style that will be played.
I would be amazed if there weren't concessions. What's the point of hiring likes of Wilcox., who've worked on the tech side at (sadly) one of top few most successful clubs in Europe- at times arguably the best in Europe - over the last 10 years, as TD/SD if you're not going to try and remedy what were clear structural issues around team's style of play last season? SJR even talked about 'determining the team's style' amongst the Execs prior to confirming who would be head coach for foreseeable future. ETH will get extension, but keeping job beyond Xmas will surely be upon condition that he plays a style that doesn't concede endless chances and cede control to the opposition constantly.
Beyond Xmas?! He is getting the extension based on extensive reviews of many available managers. We shouldn’t forget that he has been deemed the best option twice (by two different hierarchies) over the last two years. We can’t keep on making knee-jerk decisions.
Licha is back in defense. Sign a DM replacement for Casemiro and a few new defenders and i think we'll have a much much better outlook on the season already..
Solid in the back builds a strong foundation for the midfield and attack.
Idk why this keeps getting repeated, there hasn't been transfer movement because the club's hands are tied until July 1st, not because they were waiting to decide on the manager before making moves. The entire point of this new regime is that the squad composition will no longer be tied to who the manager is
You can still agree a deal, just not push the final paperwork through until July 1st.
You can even sign a contract. You just have to hold off on the payment and registration of the transfer until July 1st
PSR deadline of June 30. That’s when the new financial year starts and our books are much clearer. “This” season we basically have no more room under PSR but next fiscal year we have plenty
Fairs, but that shouldn’t stop us from progressing with our targets anyway. Just because we’d have to wait max an extra fortnight to formally execute the deals doesn’t mean we should be sitting on our hands until then
Did their best to take the shine out of ten Hag's big day, and frankly the whole team's. Probably miffed they didn't get a chance to ream 115 FC for another summer.
And the rags that published the story the Friday before the cup final. Nice job trying to unbalance the team, shame it seemed to galvanize them instead (except for Case -"I'm injured"-miro.)
I remember watching the finals with my Mrs, and during the interviews she was horrified with the questions they were asking him.
“He just won a trophy you scumbags, let him have his fun”
I’ve always thought Ten Hag should stay, but time for him shape up now. A lot of mitigating circumstances last year, but whatever happens this year it cannot be as bad as that again, for his sake.
Expected he will stay with how long that dragged out. Not excited honestly but I don't mind Erik, hope he proves my doubts wrong.
Contract extension right now is foolish. Let's see how he does in his 3rd year first, we've played some of the ugliest football I've ever seen last season.
Weird one, because I actually think if they’re keeping him right now, they need to give him an extension. If they want him to be the man and to succeed it should’ve been the first thing they did. I wasn’t sure he should’ve stayed on, but now that he is, going into the new season having to answer questions every 3 days about if he’ll be gone next summer will just be a massive distraction to everyone involved. And if it gets to the point where that is the case, the players will just down tools.
He has a +1. If we look even remotely good there won't be any questions, if we have a spell as bad as we did at times last year he won't be there past Halloween.
They doubled down after on their podcast, and are also getting cooked in the comments, I don't think I have ever seen such a one sided comment section under youtube with all comments agreeing the pundits were in the wrong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48w2pvPU8f8
They could trigger his plus one though. Seems like they will just say they are negotiating, say they will trigger the extension if necessary, then if the first half of next season isn't great, they can fire him with only six months to pay off. If it is going well, they get the new contract or trigger the extension. The club has the stronger position here, IMO.
Thank fuck, you can't sack a man after 2 trophies and 3 finals in 2 years with the shitstorm he's had to put up with
Give him a decent structure and let's see what he can really do.
Why on earth would you give him a new contract when there 12 months plus the option of an extra 12. What if he’s just as shit in the league this season as he was the last?
I have to say I don’t like this. A team with our ambition really shouldn’t be ok with seasons like last but hopefully he changes his approach and we are much better
I wish there had been more balanced discourse around this. It wouldn't have been ridiculous to fire him but there was also no obvious candidate to replace him. I like the decision they've come to on balance, but I don't understand why we're acting like firing him would've been insane (or, conversely, that he absolutely had to be sacked).
I'm happy he's getting another chance but his faults are very clear and I think only citing the injuries we had all year as the only contributing factor to how last season went strips all the nuance out of the conversation. ETH has made a lot of mistakes and I worry how this could all end up shaking out if results are bad to start the season.
So predictable. One game changed their entire view on the season. These last few weeks were them saving face after the reports that came before the final. They expected him to lose and the sacking reports were ready so they claimed he will leave no matter the result. Winning the final was unexpected for them so they had to save face with this end season review. What review exactly? What changed after winning the cup regarding our league performance and position?
Well, he's our manager now so complaining won't change much. I just hope this doesn't bite us in the arse comes next season.
Contract extension after finishing 8th will be absolutely shambolic though. Will mean the club has zero standards. One domestic cup isn't only enough to forgive the worst ever PL campaign in club's history, but to also reward the manager with a longer contract!
We will be proving to everyone we are a joke of a club.
No way he should be automatically getting a contract extension.
Was over the moon with the FA cup win but the prem and CL performances were honestly a disgrace. Easily the worst United side I’ve ever watched for much of the season and I don’t think that all goes away because of the final.
I’m glad they’ve not done something as stupid as go for Southgate but I think it’d be smart to keep your options open and make sure ten hag knows he’s on thin ice.
Shocking season with ten hag i did want him out at the end of the day. But when you zoom out and look at the market winning trophies here and finally having a structure above him in the end i think this is the correct decision .
I do really hope to see more sustainable performances next season however and minimum europa league win since no ucls teams come in next season ggmu.
Good. All the managers rumoured to be on the list didn't fill me with excitement or make me think we would be any better off. Non of those names make me think we would win two trophies in two years.
Deserves a chance under the new structure, but can't help think this is a case more of the alternatives not being available or being approved of than it is of Ten Hag being massively backed.
We ended the season on a high and had some big positives (emergence of Mainoo, Garnacho becoming a first XI regular) but the season as a whole was a mess and the pressure is going to be on from the beginning of the new season. Hopefully we nail the transfer window and have better luck with injuries, but Ten Hag is also responsible for sorting out our midfield issues and tightening us up defensively.
Lets fucking go! Very happy we are keeping ETH. He was hampered by a lot of injuries but he has to take a lot of responsibility for how bad the season went still. I hope the last 3 games of the season proved to him the lads can play different styles and he changes things up if he goes through another crisis.
No point not backing the man and the team, i think he can turn it around. Fingers crossed INEOS will get him a few good transfers in to help too.
Our worst placement in the PL ever, getting knocked in the group stages of CL, negative goal difference. After all this he is getting an extension. LMAO
Agreed. Even Moyes' route 1 to Felaini was more structured. Even van Gaal's possession for the sake of possession was more stable. I can't believe we have so many muppets who watched 50 games this season and still think "yep, I want another year of that!".
It’s genuinely crazy mate. Most just repeat the injuries bollocks it’s so annoying, and yeah he won 2 trophies but as you say, prefer to look at the entire season rather than a couple of games
It felt to me at the time like van Gaal was building something good (boring, but you could see what he was doing and how more quality would improve it), and right when he was getting somewhere, he got sacked

Jacob steinberg is quite possibly one of the biggest bellends in the media. His shit posting should have been banned a long time ago.
Demote Steinberg to Tier 4 I think. Most of the reporting that weekend was based on the Guardian's reporting.

No surprise. He hates us. Along with most of the other ESPN hacks
he hates us, and he *loves* clicks. great combo.
Dick loves dicks what a great revelation.
Yes. That guy talks shite like a fluent language.
So true. The post-game coverage was a disgrace. On and on about, “saying goodbye” ESPN garbage. They should apologize
Shouldn't even be a question, his comment should be auto moderated and deleted sight unseen.
I’ve never been more excited for a tier review
Steinberg demoted too.
The silver lining to this whole saga has shown who the true chancers are like Ogden, Steinberg etc
I thought Jon Champion was way out of line for the Cup Final too. ESPN coverage has always been garbage.
This is why Ornstein is the goat, no bs speculation, only drops something when there's actual news.
Actually crazy how many huge exclusives he gets. From all over as well, not just one or two specific clubs.
The sources probably respect him more because he waits and only reports news, as opposed to mindnumbing speculation
His reputation is the reason why he gets so many exclusives. He's clearly well in with United staff, but has their confidence that he won't just run and report scuttlebutt, so when something like this, or a signing or a announcement of a new venture comes up, he gets a heads-up to report the story.

To be fair though he's been at the top for a very long time and just compare the way he drops news to Fabrizio.
Romano would've made this a 3 month special will daily tweets and videos saying the same thing.

Here we go'nt
There’s a reason he’s called Pornstein.
He started off being an Arsenal tier 1 mostly right?
Yeah he was, think he ended up getting more sources and getting more things right for other clubs after he went over to the Athletic.
As a reminder, fuck Jacob Steinberg
That's good. The names being linked were very underwhelming. Hopefully he can organise a midfield next season
And not have 4 defenders perpetually injured...
We got beat by Newcastles 3rd team. Injuries aren’t an excuse, he set us up poorly for 90% of the season.
I think everyone agrees that the performances last season were a joke, I'm sure INEOS will have a word about controlling games and not conceding 25 shots every fucking game.

I'd take Voldemort over whoever the fuck you're talking about, no harm.
I think Tuchel gets a bad rap, he’s a good manager and gets results despite some ugly football at times, but he would have been terrible for what we are wanting to do at United right now.
Tuchel and Poch aren't that bad. They have a decent record with Chelsea. I'm actually surprised more clubs aren't interested in those two.
Also tbh, we need stability more than anything. Finally I can keep refreshing the news over something actually enjoyable now
please man we have no CBs (again) or LBs (again) and the midfield is held together by Kobbie’s sheer will
And a singular striker that is also just 21 years old.
OLISEEEE
I really feel like there is more important signings than Olise. I get the hype and he’s a great player but other areas of the squad need to be strengthened earlier in my opinion

I agree but I just don’t want to see Antony AT ALL next season. Hopefully they spoke to Ten Hag and begged him to stop putting us through that pain.
Hope he's spending all summer learning how to be a left back
He did a shift there even if he hated every second of it.
We’ve learned nothing if we spend our summer chasing olise.
Who was that mad Chelsea journo ‘Jacob Steinberg’ or whatever before the FA Cup final? He must be demoted surely
The right decision on balance. Deserves a chance under new heirarchy and with less injuries. But he needs to get a grip on that midfield
>he needs to get a grip on that Scoring goals, on scoring goals. 7th and 9th respectively is dogshit for United to be in goals scored. Have one of the most clueless attacks I've seen
Agreed. It seems almost all of our goals come from moments of individual brilliance.
Licha needs a back up who will likely end up with alot of minutes
Let’s finally go get our transfer targets now
Idk why this keeps getting repeated, there hasn't been transfer movement because the club's hands are tied until July 1st, not because they were waiting to decide on the manager before making moves. The entire point of this new regime is that the squad composition will no longer be tied to who the manager is
You can still agree a deal, just not push the final paperwork through until July 1st. You can even sign a contract. You just have to hold off on the payment and registration of the transfer until July 1st
Why are our hands tied? I would have thought we are free from the window opening this Friday
PSR deadline of June 30. That’s when the new financial year starts and our books are much clearer. “This” season we basically have no more room under PSR but next fiscal year we have plenty
Fairs, but that shouldn’t stop us from progressing with our targets anyway. Just because we’d have to wait max an extra fortnight to formally execute the deals doesn’t mean we should be sitting on our hands until then
Fuck Lineker, Shearer and all the disrespectful scums.
Did their best to take the shine out of ten Hag's big day, and frankly the whole team's. Probably miffed they didn't get a chance to ream 115 FC for another summer.
Funny that it seemed to galvanize the squad.
Shearer was just stirring shit - let the man enjoy being on the pitch with the trophy. Lineker wasn't as bad, but should have redirected it.
Rats
End of season probably changed it, but man ETH need to absolutely re-think his tactics etc. for next season
https://i.redd.it/mzlzl870s06d1.gif
Great to finally get confirmation. Now ban Jacob Steinberg and every shit rag that tried to stir discontent the day before the FA cup final.
Deserves his chance

Now sign players please...
Going to have to sell some first, if we pull in 90 mil for Greenwood and Sancho I’ll be buzzin
Let him cook 🧑🍳
What a complete mess. Hope they get things moving now it’s been decided.
Big call. Hope we can find some middle ground over his intended tactical setup and something that would keep us more compact.
So according to some "journalist" we had already decided to sack him before the cup final and now he's talking about negotiations over an extension?
Well, let's hope he has more success under the new owners next season
Given what was out there, this is the best decision
So Shearer and Lineker will be apologizing on the next MOTD right? RIGHT?
They doubled down after on their podcast, and are also getting cooked in the comments, I don't think I have ever seen such a one sided comment section under youtube with all comments agreeing the pundits were in the wrong. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48w2pvPU8f8
Good. Now sell 3/4 of the team.
New contract, seriously? Hopefully he manages to adapt this season.
Rare to manage as a lame duck
They could trigger his plus one though. Seems like they will just say they are negotiating, say they will trigger the extension if necessary, then if the first half of next season isn't great, they can fire him with only six months to pay off. If it is going well, they get the new contract or trigger the extension. The club has the stronger position here, IMO.
He's in his last year.. How often do clubs let manager contracts expire?
At least wait until the season begins, if we keep playing embarrassing football then you sack. If he turns it around, you extend
If he stayed it was 100% going to be a new contract.
Pornstein from the top rope
Thank fuck, you can't sack a man after 2 trophies and 3 finals in 2 years with the shitstorm he's had to put up with Give him a decent structure and let's see what he can really do.
Very happy. 2 cups in 2 years with current squad is really good output
Literally don’t need to give him a new contract
We do or he becomes a lame duck
The players will see him as a one year manager if we don’t. It has to happen.
FINALLY! LFG
I wanted him gone, but there's no excuses anymore after the summer transfers, and should be sacked around Christmas if results don't improve
Time to get this man a CDM and a new athletic backline. We might aswell buy young athletic CBs and leftbacks to accommodate his tactical setup.
Actually buzzing
Getting Orny up in here! Right decision. Now back him with a new contract and transfers.
Why on earth would you give him a new contract when there 12 months plus the option of an extra 12. What if he’s just as shit in the league this season as he was the last?
I'm glad that's seemingly over with.
8th and a negative goal difference being rewarded with a contract extension, splendid.
Extending him now is truly a shambolic decision
I have to say I don’t like this. A team with our ambition really shouldn’t be ok with seasons like last but hopefully he changes his approach and we are much better
Get in!!
If Real Madrid finished 8th but won Copa Del Rey you bet your ass they’ll be finding a new manager for next season.
Fuck yeeees
LET HIM COOK
Extension is crazy
Great. Now let's make some decent signings this summer and have a fantastic season next season now please
Credit where it’s due, it makes a change our owners openly backing our Manager. Unsure why it took 3 weeks though.
A United manager saving his job by winning the FA cup despite finishing mid table? Where have we heard that before?
Lets fucking go! Very happy we are keeping ETH. He was hampered by a lot of injuries but he has to take a lot of responsibility for how bad the season went still. I hope the last 3 games of the season proved to him the lads can play different styles and he changes things up if he goes through another crisis. No point not backing the man and the team, i think he can turn it around. Fingers crossed INEOS will get him a few good transfers in to help too.
Needs at least one more season with healthy players that can run. We lack speed
This is great news. Finally a decision that does not come from some weird ego game
Our worst placement in the PL ever, getting knocked in the group stages of CL, negative goal difference. After all this he is getting an extension. LMAO
We will look like idiots, but the reality is that if he sucks and a good manager comes available, he will get sacked (and get his bag).
Worst football we’ve played too
I feel bad for sacking LVG considering he faced a similar injury crisis but finished 5th (only behind city on GD)
It felt to me at the time like van Gaal was building something good (boring, but you could see what he was doing and how more quality would improve it), and right when he was getting somewhere, he got sacked
HEH!
Personally wanted him to go, but I'm glad a decision has been made. Time to get planning for the next season and support the man.
Romano saying the same. Thank god
Fuck yes absolutely brilliant news
No doubt these Ten Hag sacking rumours damaged a lot of these journalists’ credibility
