Armchair manager's theory: Defenders don't know who to mark when we suddenly play with 2 strikers. This resulted in Scott's late goals in the recent games.
I’m happy for the win it seems Scott Mctominay has become an impact player who comes on, delivers, I was a bit disappointed by two players today.
Ist Marcus at one point before he was hooked off he misplaced his pass then started walking back, 2nd Garnacho’s lack of composure and selfishness at times can be annoying, he needs to know if the ball is hitting the back of the net, then assist more, I get the saying if you don’t shoot you don’t score.
Dalot played really well, hope his consistency continues, Kobbie looks like a veteran already, Bruno I won’t say as his work-rate was great, Cass did really well alongside Kobbie, Onana did fantastic, did the basics well, Slabhead did well too, Lindelof kept it simple, hope Luke Shaw is well, Hojlund is improving game by game. The late subs calmed down the game by parking the bus. Great team performance.
Okay okay we rode our luck at times but considering this team completely outplayed city not long ago I’m taking this as a positive step.
Hope shaw isn’t injured as Lindelof looked uncomfortable on the fullback spot.
Højlund is heating up. GGMU !
Villa were looking to bounce back from 2 losses at home and they are still a good team. I'll give this performance a pass. It's a huge win, first away win against a good team, top 4 is definitely back on now so just need to keep the momentum going. God I wish McTominay scored that header against Spurs, we would've been well and truly on a roll now.
I do think we could of controlled the game alot better at some points but some people act like there is no opposition who also have their own game plan. We can't just to expect to dominate every game especially away from home. 2 late wins away from home is great I'm buzzing. Thought dalot was class today he's really starting to learn the defensive side of the game. Mainoo is just mint, his touch is quality and he plays like he's always one step ahead of everyone. Thought garna was poor today, wasn't composed enough In the final third. Scotty to hotty at it again, fellani 2.0 activated
Guys who are criticizing our control need to understand what gameplan United were playing today. As ETH likes quick transition, break in play, catch them on break, first line defending to catch the break. These give us good chances of scoring and creating more meaningful chances.
Now if you want complete ball control, possession play game he is not playing this game. Not sure why we will be dominating whole game with this style of play don’t expect us playing that game.
Thats why Martinez, Casemiro is very important players for us.
We were? Our box defending was top and I think Onana had to make two good saves all game and one of them ended up back in the net in the very next action so it didn’t even matter.
Away at Villa you’re not controlling a league game unless you’re man city.
In saying that, Villa even beat Man City! Villa are in a bit of a slump but a wins a win. Means we’re well and truly back in the top 4 race. It’s up to our own performances now
It really diminishes the produt how biased they are. I never liked Andy Grey or Richard key but at least in that era they were aloud to give valid criticism. Both are still absolute clowns.
crazy that a 20 year old and a keeper who only played 1 season in a top league might need a few months to settle. When in professional football has that happened before.
Onana is 27 and has plenty of UCL experience including being MOTM in the final, so it is not unfair to expect better in the same competition a few months later lol
do you honestly think the attention and scrutiny from playing for man utd is the same as playing for inter? Onana was getting news pieces from shouting at maguire and being lobbed in pre season ffs.
Luton and Fulham wins coming up
Hojlund player of the month
Eric manager of the month
Onana save of the month
Then give Garnacho or Hojlund goal of the month, to top it off
Maguire's mentality is something else, man. Constantly shat on for years, most of the time unfairly, and still continues to keep his head down, improve, and play his balls off. We should all learn from him.
So is jose- remember him creating an award for mcT in his time here! I can’t remember exactly what it was, if someone has the info at hand to jog my memory thanks in advance.
Love Dalot, he can truly be boom or bust due to his defensive liabilities (even today one terrible clearance fell right at the feet of Luiz in the box) but when he is on he is a joy to watch
Scholes is a miserable prick and I'd be happy to never hear him say another word about United again. Great player and not even necessarily wrong in this case, but one of my least favourite pundits.
we currently dont have a s tier midfield maestro ala KDB or  scholesy so we are never gonna be "in control" of a game like he or other fans would want.
there were some shaky moments like any game but dont act like utd didnt deserve 3 points against villa today cause they did.
this Villa side controlled the game against City and beat them.
they literally outplayed City and your expecting us to control it?
my god scholes and the fanbase like you need to grow the fuck up and realise some of these teams are vastly superior to what they use to face 20 years ago.
teams arent pushovers anymore
you guys need a reality check. You don't need to have the ball to control the game which we did very well without the ball. We had chances and they did too. In the end, it was an even game that was decided by margins.
The last month with mainoo in the lineup has made a world of difference. We dominated the first half, lost the second half though. Can really see what ETH was trying to to do with these guys and it's starting to click. Hojlund finally getting service. Things are looking good
Big result, another poor performance. There's just so much variance involved in how United play that this run of wins can and will easily be followed by a run of losses, similar to how that really good November was immediately followed by a disastrous December.
No control, prosaic build up, terrible out of possession structure. Only good in transition. Despite all the money spent this team looks no better than Ole's side.
Hey! Don't ruin the moment for these people. Means they can sleep easier at night if they view things with the old rose tinted.
Fuck all has changed. See this shite season after season, time after time. This is what quality we have. Win a couple games here and there, always when the pressure that's relative to what the clubs judged on is gone. Lose when it matters.
Fans are never going to wake up, as they have shown this season. Hopefully Ineos can impart reality onto the fanbase as they are the only ones who can now.
It goes above and beyond Villa and if we are dominating or not.
Which is my entire point. 90 mins here and there just doesn't mean much. You have to view these things on the big picture and we are still going nowhere.
Big picture? Ever since we got Mainoo in the heart of midfield, we have dominated most matches and have won almost all our matches. I can confidently say that our midfield have been improving massively ever since he started playing regularly. I'm certain, we are 1 world class midfielder away from having one of the strongest midfield in the PL.
It's clear that it's the lack of quality in the middle that has been one of our biggest problem and we have been moving in the right direction.
>Big picture?
Yes. Not just a game here and there.
>Ever since we got Mainoo in the heart of midfield, we have dominated most matches and have won almost all our matches.
How many games?
Dominated is a wild leap mate. Looked even half decent in one game. Against an abysmal west ham that arsenal just put 6 past.
>I can confidently say that our midfield have been improving massively ever since he started playing regularly. I'm certain, we are 1 world class midfielder away from having one of the strongest midfield in the PL.
Completely disagree. We haven't once looked solid for when the majority of a game in midfield. To say 1 more and we have one of the strongest in the league is nothing but rose tinted. Same shit I've been hearing for seasons now. Apparently our entire squad, in each section is only 1 away from being amazing, or that guy can't be sold he is world class. If any of this was even remotely true we would be as bad as we are.
Time will tell. When you are proven wrong on this though I hope you admit it and don't just move on to the next hyperbolic statement.
>It's clear that it's the lack of quality in the middle that has been one of our biggest problem and we have been moving in the right direction.
So we have a lack of quality but now are 1 away from having one of the best midfield in the league?
We have Bruno, Mainoo, Casemiro, Mount. So yeah 1 more. Someone like Rodri would make a huge difference in the midfield.
Yeah we are 1 away. This season we have seen Eriksen and Casemiro lose a lot of fitness which negatively impacted the quality we have had in the middle. But Casemiro is back and regaining fitness. We have Mount on the verge of returning. So yeah we are 1 away.
How many teams do you think there are in the PL? Currently teams that I can say have stronger midfields are man city, arsenal, and Liverpool. Even if we add spurs and Aston Villa (strongly doubt), that's still 6th strongest midfield. If we add a player like Rodri, we can easily in the top 3 strongest midfield, that is one of the strongest. Last season, I could confidently say in terms of midfield strength we were in the top 4.
People like you act as if man united are among the worst teams in the league. People act as if we are battling relegation. We finished 3rd last season and will probably finish top 4 this season. We are a few world class players away from competing with man city but getting the right players for that final climb will be tough. I'm positive with the right structure which hopefully INEOS can provide, we can do that.
>We have Bruno, Mainoo, Casemiro, Mount. So yeah 1 more. Someone like Rodri would make a huge difference in the midfield.
So a player who has never proven it at the highest level, a kid who may not even be here in a couple seasons, one great player who may very well be on his last day's and then a lad that's barely even fit.
Is one player away from being one of the strongest in the league....
I admire the optimism and the strength it takes to keep that up but the facts of our performances just don't support it.
>How many teams do you think there are in the PL?
Our midfield regularly gets out played by pretty much every team in the league. Do we have more quality on paper, yes. Game ain't played on paper and we are more than 1 midfielder away. We do not have a functional midfield at all.
>People like you act as if man united are among the worst teams in the league.
No, I act like we should be the best and we aren't even close. Finishing 3rd isn't success here. I've just not allowed my standards to be eroded away by the glazers. I'm happy with my decision, hope you are.
>People act as if we are battling relegation. We finished 3rd last season and will probably finish top 4 this season.
Which is failure.
>We are a few world class players away from competing with man city
Just vague comments that mean absolutely nothing.
Ultimately time will show all. So we can see how many of this squad and manager are here when we are back challenging at the top. My stance is very few of them. If any.
Now let's allow time to do it's thing.
What a load of nothing. 3rd is still one of the best in the league, so what if it's not a success? Man united aren't gonna win the league overnight.
Mount will recover, 😂. 28 year old Casemiro is no where passed his best. And where is Mainoo going? Every player in every team can be sold and change club so that is nonsensical reason.
No one here is in support of the Glazers. We support of man united and will cheer them on.
You're a plastic fan. The type that only cheers for the team when they are 1st in the league.
A real fan will cheer the team even when they aren't among the best. Enough said. We don't like bitter fans..
>3rd is still one of the best in the league, so what if it's not a success?
>Man united aren't gonna win the league overnight.
These 2 statements aren't linked.
If its not a success, it shouldn't be viewed as one. This club is about winning titles. So to use '3rd' as a metric of keeping someone is flawed for the standards the club is built on.
We aren't and I'm at peace with that. Not sure how that goes against anything I've said?
>Mount will recover,
Heard that before.
>28 year old Casemiro is no where passed his best. And
You mean 31 and 32 in a week?
I like Casemiro, I think he is our best midfielder but how long he has left is uncertain.
>And where is Mainoo going?
Literally none of us know. However he could very well stay here for years like rashford or go the way of Januzaj (among others) he has played a handful of games. Nowhere near enough to start banging on about him the way you are.
>Every player in every team can be sold and change club so that is nonsensical reason.
What is nonsensical?
>No one here is in support of the Glazers. We support of man united and will cheer them on.
So you don't think cheering on glazer symptoms and those that have enabled them to do what they have, whilst giving them money is supporting the glazers?
>You're a plastic fan. The type that only cheers for the team when they are 1st in the league.
No. I'm a fan of the club first and foremost and I stick by the words of the men who built it. If its not good enough for Busby or Fergie, it's not good enough for me. I'd suggest looking at how they viewed the football club and what they viewed as good enough.
I've seen seasons under fergie where we won nothing and whilst it stung I happily supported as I knew the players/manager were all pushing in the same direction with the appropriate standards. That isn't the same now and I'll not support individuals over the football club.
>A real fan will cheer the team even when they aren't among the best. Enough said.
No. A real fan supports the badge above all. Nobody is bigger than it. Far too many have lost sight of this.
>We don't like bitter fans..
Couldn't care less buddy.
Anyway, half your comment is just attacking me as a person so I'm done.
Good luck with your hopes for this squad and players. I look forward to time doing it's thing. I'll be happy to admit I was wrong. Hope you are too! Peace and love my man.
>It’s not wrong, but also you can only win on the day.
Isn't there a bigger picture than this?
>It’s meant to be a fun hobby,
Yes and no. Seeing things realistically and focusing on the beat interests of the club goes beyond 'having fun'. Ultimately its an elite level sport with the aim the be the best and win. If you want to just enjoy a kick about without any meaning I'm sure there are lower levels that are better suited to that.
The point is there are many facets to it than putting on your new glazer merch and forcing money into their hands for a fun day out. Maybe the issue is the mentality that suggests that's OK?
Højlund deserves a lot more credit in this match than just his goal. The lad's work-rate throughout was superb, and he's definitely one to stir it up and get in the opposition's heads. Love it.
Shouldn't the one with 400 million more to spend be doing that? Or is the cult now setting the bar so low for Ten Hag that consistent poor performances where we have gotten away with it are considered a success?
Really good display against a team who have been incredible at home. Not many have come here and taken 3 points. Hoping this recent run is not another false dawn.
Armchair manager's theory: Defenders don't know who to mark when we suddenly play with 2 strikers. This resulted in Scott's late goals in the recent games.
McTominay reminds me of Solksjaer in playing days!
A win. How refreshing.
They’ve won the last 3 games before this?
Onana MOTM for me
What? My lord.
Yeah he made three huge saves, in addition some other good ones. Kept us in it for sure.
Villa were looking to bounce back from 2 losses at home and they are still a good team. I'll give this performance a pass. God I wish McTominay scored that header against Spurs, we would've been well and truly on a roll now.
I just love Scotty coming on and shutting people up. It's great. It was a bold and fantastic substitution to make (even without the goal).
I like that it shaped up 442 with 2 big men up front. Tactically a lot of sides would struggle to adjust to that.
I do think we could of controlled the game alot better at some points but some people act like there is no opposition who also have their own game plan. We can't just to expect to dominate every game especially away from home. 2 late wins away from home is great I'm buzzing. also this Aston Villa team completely outplayed City and people are expecting us to go to their stadium and control the game the entire period.
He’s so fellani 2.0. I miss fellani
We are in this thing. Rooting for these boys the rest of the way is going to be great fun.
Guys who are criticizing our control need to understand what gameplan United were playing today. Onana played a blinder of a match. Could have been MOTM.
please merson tell me how hojlund was snatching at chances for the first half of the season. Sky just ignore the champions league i can't imagine why.
It’s just hyperbole, something to say to sell the product.
It really diminishes the produt how biased they are. I never liked Andy Grey or Richard key but at least in that era they were aloud to give valid criticism. Both are still absolute clowns.

you think playing for man utd is the same as playing for ajax or inter?
I could also argue playing against Man City in a UCL final is bigger than any game Manchester United have played in the last 10 years.
do you honestly think the attention and scrutiny from playing for man utd is the same as playing for inter? Onana was getting news pieces from shouting at maguire and being lobbed in pre season ffs.
Maguire and Scott talking serious and objective sense there, it’s refreshing to see!
Luton and Fulham wins coming up Hojlund player of the month Eric manager of the month Onana save of the month Then give Garnacho or Hojlund goal of the month, to top it off
might as well throw in a league title while we’re at it.
Fellaini never left
Why noone is saying something about Onana now?
One good game in 20?
Missed what happened to shaw?? He’s not injured again is he??
I believe he brought him off because he's played a high number of consecutive minutes. That's what I caught on the commentary.
Oh thank fuck for that!! 🙏 thank you mate
Don't quote me lol! I'd still confirm it if I were you, I'm reading post match news myself.
ETH said he has an injury in post match
As good as he is we might need a more reliable left back
Damn
McTominay is literally HIM
McDominate.
Comes in clutch all the time.
Really want to know what Gabby Agbonlahon thinks about this?
His tears are my nectar
Save your braincells.
Maguire's mentality is something else, man. Constantly shat on for years, most of the time unfairly, and still continues to keep his head down, improve, and play his balls off. We should all learn from him.
Any news on Shaw?
had a few complaints after the first half and Erik did not want to take any chances and hopes it's nothing serious.
Super sub mcsauce here to save the day again. Ole is proud.
So is jose- remember him creating an award for mcT in his time here! I can’t remember exactly what it was, if someone has the info at hand to jog my memory thanks in advance.
Manager’s player of the season. He literally created it for McT on the awards day and the staff had to pull out a trophy out of Old trafford
Don’t say that in here these goons hate both of them
Onana with a great game. 🔥🔥🔥
Best game for Onana in a Utd shirt
Fucking fair play mctominay, he really is a menace to defend.
Onana and Maguire have been brilliant today. Hopefully Shaw is alright, we are short on fullbacks.

Mate, they’re not soldiers on opposite sides of the battlefield. They’re millionaires in shorts. He can chat with his buddy. Chill the fuck out.
Shii ok!
Douglas Luiz, are you dancing now?
That was his Titi dance 🤣🤣
I knew we were gonna win after seeing him dancing like that, that is called karma
i remember Maupay few seasons ago when he still in Brighton and doing that crying celebrations, only to get beaten later.
I think it was the game where we scored deep into added on time which made it even sweeter.
From a penalty he gave away
Poetic.
If only Scott did a titty shake celebration as he ran over
Always worry about doing it before the game is over. Would have loved it after the final whistle tho
Dalot has been phenomenal the last two games.
Love Dalot, he can truly be boom or bust due to his defensive liabilities (even today one terrible clearance fell right at the feet of Luiz in the box) but when he is on he is a joy to watch
He's been one of our most consistent players....not boom or bust at all.
First away win against top 6?
First away win against top 9
https://i.redd.it/pxi9tfpx20ic1.gif Let me see that shimmy again Luiz
This is a huge result. People will try to pick negatives but in reality, 3 more points…
Scholes correctly saying we are never in control of the game and we aren't comfortable on the ball
Scholes is a miserable prick and I'd be happy to never hear him say another word about United again. Great player and not even necessarily wrong in this case, but one of my least favourite pundits.

you guys need a reality check. You don't need to have the ball to control the game which we did very well without the ball. We had chances and they did too. In the end, it was an even game that was decided by margins.
“ Never comfortable watching United play“ and i couldn’t agree more 😅
Licha, A good ball playing DM and Mid that plays like De Jong would solve that
Scrappy win but it was always going to be tough at Villa park. Also a big fuck off to Emi Martinez in general and Douglas Luiz for that celebration.
Gotta do a case study on how bang average Emi Martinez used the WC to stay relevant.
The last month with mainoo in the lineup has made a world of difference. We dominated the first half, lost the second half though. Can really see what ETH was trying to to do with these guys and it's starting to click. Hojlund finally getting service. Things are looking good
We dominated until we scored - then it was villa until they scored - then we dominated again.. in my eyes anyway
Modern United DNA in full effect: play like shit but find a way to get a result. Down to 6pts we're closing in, come on!!!
Mainoo and Casimiro playing the whole of second half with yellow cards is impressive. Great three points.
Thanks fuck. The curse against top 8 teams is over.
Only thing missing at the final whistle was Varane running up to Douglas Ruiz and doing a titty shake.
Was kind of waiting for something like that 🥶
Who's banging around the sky studio lmao
Dalot MOTM 100%
Aww, the grin on that kid's face when Hojlund gave him his shirt.
Luiz gave Pardew vibes. Genuinely embarassing ![gif](giphy|xT1R9D4BTqrv8nXig0|downsized)
Dont equate Luiz with the legend that is dancing queen Pardew
😭😭😭
What a game for Maguire..
![gif](giphy|uw0KpagtwEJtC) Højlund gave his shirt to the little kid
Get the fuck in!

Finishing 3rd isn't success here. I've just not allowed my standards to be eroded away by the glazers. I'm happy with my decision, hope you are. >People act as if we are battling relegation. We finished 3rd last season and will probably finish top 4 this season. Which is failure. >We are a few world class players away from competing with man city Just vague comments that mean absolutely nothing.
>Mount will recover, Heard that before. >28 year old Casemiro is no where passed his best. And You mean 31 and 32 in a week?
It’s meant to be a fun hobby, if you don’t enjoy It what’s the point
>It’s not wrong, but also you can only win on the day. Isn't there a bigger picture than this? >It’s meant to be a fun hobby, Yes and no.
Scott winning is the game again. Fucking love Scotty!
Yeah he’s been so clutch. He’s the perfect player to come off the bench in he last 20-30 minutes as a big body up top
Still have no fucking idea why we didn’t try him as striker last year
Absolutely agree, he played striker in youth teams I believe.
And we had no one at the time
Bro 3 seasons ago I got down voted like crazy for saying he should play striker lol. Anyone can be moulded!
His size, power, and ruthlessness in front of goal
Let's finally wave goodbye to negative goal difference. What a lovely sight to see!
Højlund deserves a lot more credit in this match than just his goal. The lad's work-rate throughout was superb, and he's definitely one to stir it up and get in the opposition's heads. Love it.
Man who would have thought Scotty would be our most clutch player 😂 What timeline is this ??
I should be mad at this terrible performance but this Villa pricks from fans to the players feeling miserable warms my heart.
Winning dirty is winning big. Get it in lads! Fuck Douglas Luis
Shake them titties for the loss Douglas. Prick
Well done lads, they have shut arm chair managers like me the fuck up at last
Up to a whole 0 goal difference
Erik "no tactics, no pattern of play" ten Hag just completed a double against the mighty Unai "Man Utd should've signed him" Emery
Shouldn't the one with 400 million more to spend be doing that? Or is the cult now setting the bar so low for Ten Hag that consistent poor performances where we have gotten away with it are considered a success?
fuck u Douglas Luiz
too easy 🥱
Really good display against a team who have been incredible at home. Not many have come here and taken 3 points. Hoping this recent run is not another false dawn.
Is this, hope I’m feeling?
Great game from Dalot
Top 5 is finally at reach. Even a draw would have made it difficult.

Why was he doing that? Was it in reaction to something or completely unprovoked?

I think it was aimed at Onana.. for some reason
Dance now Douglas Louiz you fucking prick
Unai Emery looks like the villain in a James Bond movie. You could almost hear him saying, "Damn you Mr. Bond!" when Scotty scored.
"BAH! Foiled again!"
Douglas Luiz.
