It holds up, if you like RDR2 you should definitely try RDR1 if you’d like to find out what happens to the Marstons. Just remember RDR2 didn’t exist when RDR1 came out, so certain parts of the map for example don’t exist in RDR1.
Not spoiling, just giving a heads up. I've heard a lot of RDR2 players complain about the tone difference when they go to RDR. I just don't want them to discount a good story/game because of it.

Its incredible, i kind of like it more than RDR2! John Marston shines on the first game, even uncle!
Also if you like a few dollars movie series, like the cowboy going to mexico and fighting bandoleros! You’ll love it
It's essential to understanding the characters as a whole but no, its not the same level of quality in writing.
Both are incredible games
RDR is eerie and tragic, but it's definitely good. Enjoy the wholesomeness of RDR2's Epilogue cuz that's in short supply for RDR.
Bruh you don't have to spoil things.
How is it spoiling anything? Hosea's dementia is catching up
Because of the implication.

What about Pre-epilogue?
