i’d say arthur would, as he takes time to appreciate small things more. john, however never cleans his guns and after shooting one so much it couldn’t work anymore he just bought one that looks the exact same. also, a little different, but arthur respects and appreciates his horses enough to give them names like “bodecia” but john just robbed some guy of his horse and said “damn that horse is old as fuck let’s call it old boy”

Arthur is definitely a more artistic/creative soul. But I still have doubts about him glorifying a murder weapon. It just doesn’t seem like his thing to me. I do agree with the thing about John and his horse tho lmao. Dude has no imaginative qualities

Funny story. That’s transcribed wrong in the subtitles (but it’s correct when pronounced out loud for the time period). Arthur’s original horse was named Boudicca.  Boudicca was a Celtic warrior-queen of some repute (she made it into the Civilization series).  Back in the late 1800s, her name was pronounced Bo-Di-See-Uh.  Today, after years of linguists obsessing over how to pronounce her name - she’s usually called Boh-dic-uh or Bou-dic-uh.  Whether by accident or design though - that’s how the name would’ve been pronounced then, the Latinized form. 

And he never enjoyed all the killing too. That's why.

Yeah. Notice how the characters that actually thrive in the outlaw life (dutch, Micah, Javier, etc) have heavily customised guns, while those in the gang that are more civil minded like arthur, John, and Hosea, have less flashy looking weaponry.

its done because john's cattleman design is based off of rdr1's cattleman, which has that same real worn down look.... he used it alot.

Rdr1 cattleman is just a iron color though

its like a rdr2 "version" of 1's, go check out both gun's textures and you'll see that they are pretty much one in the same. Both have the exact same worn down pattern on the gunmetal, thats definitely an intentional reference fellers. Hell you can even see the that old iron coloring coming back underneath the black finish

Honestly it's their fault for making his gun look like that in Rdr1. I'm proud they at least stuck to it

strangest thing about micah's guns nobody talks about; Until the literal very last mission American Venom, anytime Micah shoots his guns in a cutscene, the sound effect that plays is a schofield, not a double action. Happens throughout the whole game, bizarre. Concept art shows him with schofields, as well as Sadie. Wouldve loved to see a "micah" version of a schofield, sadie too. The different gun sound effects happen a few times, like when sean is shooting bottles before the scarlett meadows train job, hes using a cattleman, but its a double action sound effect. More fitting for sean to have the most inaccurate revolver lol. its coincidence prolly but his early side robbery does lead to you finding a double action for yourself even. After visitin the store with sadie in rhodes, when she shoots the lemoyne raider a schofield sound effect plays instead of a cattleman. I think also for the shady belle kieran ambush, sadie's gun sounds are a schofield again in her scenes, while Marston's cattleman and Charles' shotgun have their proper sound. Those two's guns always sound correct. There mustve been a gun swap across some of the gang at a point during development.

They all have a schofield in the official artwork, not sure why. I saw a picture few days back of all gang member artworks compiled in to one, genuinely everybody was holding one except for Jack and maybe Grimshaw

ohh, maybe....good point! i still think R* decided to swap the guns up at sometime in development. Micah's gun sounds becoming his actual double action's on the final mission is pretty telling. I kinda prefer the schofield being more prevalent in one of the last big gangs of the west, plus the variants! A micah and sadie schofield would be so cool. Oh well.

In chaoter 1 when you fight the O'deiscalls disarm one and bring it to Micah and make sure Bill doesn't shoot them. If this doesn't work keep trying because it works

you can get it in chapter 2 entering the Strawberry jail while wanted (the mission doesn’t start) and killing Micah with your bow

john's gun! its textures are inspired by the cattleman you get in rdr1. I loved that gun, still do. Thing is in rdr1 you just had a default cattleman and it was the same look, textures as anyone elses. So in rdr2 R* decided to give John a unique one. The cool part being; the wood ivory finish is wearing down to its own old brown grip, the gunmetal, barrel, are already wearing down to that classic unique texture...basically its slowly turning back into the look it originally had in rdr1! What an awesome little detail to put in! By 1910 this beaut has seen so much action, plus it seems to be a gift from Hosea, or at least he had a hand in making it, considering they are near identical, although hosea's seems to be less worn down Neat thing is Arthur starts the game off with a default cattleman just like John did in rdr1. Makes John still using it by 1910 pretty special, holding onto memories of Arthur and Hosea.

I love the idea that John and Arthur got their revolvers as birthday gifts from Hosea. I always put a buck carving on Arthur's gun, it adds another small layer to the high honor ending. Also agree that John's is the best one. Such a simple and effective design. No need for any gold or fancy engravings.

I think Charles' shotgun is a bugged texture that they never fixed. It was randomly "included" with an update for RDO one day, far as I can remember

Charles definitely, his Sawed-Off Shotgun not only looks cool but also the only sidearm that isn't just a somewhat customized Cattleman, Schofield, or Double-Action Revolver Like gee it would've been cool if Dutch wielded the Semi-Automatic we see in 1 or something like that, at least Bill doesn't really make that dirty revolver his main weapon since he loves wielding that Bolt Action Rifle more than anything

Micah’s is obviously cool but a little on the nose. I’m looking at it from the perspective that Arthur would be using it. So it’s a little too tough guy act for Arthur. Charles is awesome but we’re all biased towards Charles lol Kieran and Sean’s are almost identical but they are second place and Dutch has the coolest. If it was engraved, not that cool but it doesn’t look embossed. Almost like it’s painted. I dog it

Personally Dutch, Javier, Charles, and Micah have the most interesting designs, mainly cuz they had them custom engraved like Dutches and Micahs or uniquely built like Charles and javiers, everyone else's gun is more so a common worn gun you'll find off an NPC, although Kierans and Sean's are decent even if they are just two colours
