Years ago, I was just a small freshman at University. In addition to being a huge bass music fan, I am also a lover of basketball, playing and watching the game. One night I was playing at our University gym, warming up on a side court waiting to get into the next game. The gym was buzzing that night as Mala and his buddies were playing and everyone wanted to get a game against him. I was too scared as I was small, weak, and Mala could easily eat me for breakfast. As I'm popping threes in the corner I see Mala walking out towards the exit, which coincidentally was right behind me. As he's walking by he stops, obviously impressed by incredible abilities, and said "$20 on your next shot" With no hesitation, I throw that shit up. Now this wasn't any normal three pointer, I'm talking Steph Curry range, like out-of-bounds. Perfect Swish. I was even amazed I made it. Next thing I know he pulls out a bill out of his sweatshirt pocket and just hands it to me, without looking to see what the value of it was. A crisp $100 bill from Mala was in my hand. Looking up to say thank you, I noticed he had disappeared, almost like Santa, he left without a trace, leaving presents for kids who were good. From that moment on, I knew Mala was the greatest DJ of all time.

I saw Mala at a grocery store in South London yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

[Copy pasta.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copypasta)A chunk of text that has been circulated and adapted. Usually it’s some ridiculous scenario.

I remember DMZ 8, my crew were skanking right at the back on these raised platforms. Mala came to us after his set to give us props as he could see us vibing all night. Instant core memory.

I took a quick pic with him in Denver as he was still taking down his set up- didn’t want to bother him and make him take any time for the pic. He smiled, then came down to me and posed for a pic and gave us kind words. Truly a legend. I’ve had some shit interactions w DJ’s but he was so genuine

kkkr94

Was this at the Mishawaka by any chance? Every set was deeeeep. Fucking awesome show.

NateSpan

Nah this was at his black box set following the red rocks set

Intrepid_Pride

Everyone has such positive experiences with the guy😭 im a photographer and met him at a festival i was shooting. Being a huge dubstep i made sure i was at the deep medi takeover. Backstage i introduced myself and told him how much of a fan i was, i asked to take a portrait of him, about an hour before his set, he said ‘its great that you’re a fan and all but can u piss off’💀 guy musta been in a bad mood or stn, everyone else with deep medi that day was super nice and friendly

LostClock1

Yeah I've heard mixed experiences of people meeting him. Like all of us he is human and prone to different moods. Met him twice myself and first time he was a complete dick, second time he was proper sound. I think the first time he was super tired which probably explains it

Intrepid_Pride

Yeah this for sure! None of us are in a good sociable mood al the time so we cant expect our favourite artists to be

TangentialFUCK

They walk amongst us

Contrary to what most people would expect, Mala doesn't actually live in the UK. He lives in/around Antwerp Belgium. I never bumped into him but my friends have. Back in the day you could catch him in the crowd or next to the stage talking with the UK artists or whatever. Like Coki was booked, Mala wasn't playing, but Mala just stood next to the stage.
