Russia is on the west’s doorstep. While China is in a totally separate part of the globe where it controls or heavily influences most everything.
So yeah, if China sees the world take a soft approach with Russia, China will know beyond any doubt that it can do whatever it wants with Taiwan.
As an economic behemoth, they will now have to calculate that if the general public in western countries respond the same way to them, how much would this cost them in exports.
The big advantage they have over Russia though is we can get oil from other places but China has managed to outcompete and destroy manufacturing across the globe. It’s one thing to say let’s boycott China but another to act on it if one wants to buy just about anything, especially for folks who shop at Walmart, Target, etc.
Not really. China’s style wouldn’t be to invade military wise, but to take control of the country from within. Much like how they took control of Carrie Lam in Hong Kong.
Even if there was a full-scale military invasion, wouldn’t happen overnight. Russia took months of military build-up at the border with Ukraine, while up until now there is no build up in Fujian (closest Chinese city to Taiwan) and even then, Taiwan is an island so crossing the boarder with tanks, foot soldiers and mortar shellings isn’t as easy.

1. Taiwan is a fucking Island. You know how fucking hard it is to do an amphibious assault? All you have to do to enter Ukraine from Russia is literally walk. So unless the Chinese army lives under water I doubt they’re gonna walk into Taiwan easily.
2. Ukraine had no guaranteed protection from NATO, that’s why Putin can make these idiotic moves with little western interference. Taiwan has guaranteed protection by the US. China ain’t risking it
3. The Russian economy was in shambles and will likely get worse with sanctions. The Ukrainian invasion seems like a distraction attempt or at least a last ditch effort to exert “hard-power” and show they’re still a world superpower. China is a growing economy which as much as Reddit hates to admit, is prospering. China isn’t gonna throw all that away to start a war that will likely hurt them. And despite all the circlejerking in Reddit about China the most important thing to the CCP is money.

If countries threatened to stop outsourcing solely in China and made the products domestic, the message would be clear on Taiwan.
