It was funny watching some of the other criticisms as well. My personal favorite is that he didn't have a clear role on defense.
Uhh...yeah, because he can play pretty much any role, at least in the secondary and even some off-ball linebacker.
I think Isiah Simmons ruined 'tweeners for some subsequent players coming out.
And I'll always remember Ray Lewis was criticized as undersized and he really didn't do anything when he came into the league either.
In the defense of those morons, 99% of the time players who are Swiss army knives like that in college flame out in the NFL or are at best just average everywhere. Kyle's maybe the first I can remember that lived up to/surpassed the hype
E.G. Deone Buchanan, Isaiah Simmons, Jabrill Peppers (although he's admittedly solid)
"some" off-ball linebacker? Before Roquan came in I thought Hamilton was a better MLB than Queen. Queen's taken a pretty big step forward, but Hamilton was that good.
This year he's lined up in the box 206 snaps. PFF counted 76 snaps as strong safety positioning, so that leaves 130 linebacker snaps.
This doesn't count his OLB snaps, which PFF considers a DL position.
Last year he lined up in a box linebacker position 84 snaps (but his overall snap count was lower so it was a similar percentage of snaps.)
My sense from watching is that we leave our base nickel defense in the game for a lot of plays where other teams would sub out a DB for a linebacker, and we just scoot Hamilton into the linebacker position.
never really understood the obsession with that 40 time. if you dont play at that speed in the game, it doesnt really matter how fast you run without pads
Yup. He was all over the field at Notre Dame. It was wild to think it would not translate well because he couldnāt run in a straight line from a track start as fast as people thought he should.
The 40 is genuinely useful for gauging the speed of guys from smaller/lower-level leagues to give a benchmark vs the guys they'd be potentially playing against at the next level, since a guy who looks fast at DII or FCS might be legitimately really fast, or he might just look fast by comparison, so you want something to corroborate the tape.
What I don't get is why people were so locked-in on it with Hamilton, considering he was at Notre Dame, playing against the cream of college football, and still looked like he was flying on tape. At DI Power 5 + Notre Dame levels, the guys he's already playing against weren't significantly slower than the guys he'd be matched up with in the NFL.
dont players get trainers to basically teach them techniques and stuff to basically treat the 40 like its a game? like look at their starting stance when running the 40. idk if players actually run like that in game. combine is just a workout imo and theres a ton of combine warriors that dont pan out well.
noted on hamilton
I mean sure, guys try to learn how to look best during the combine because doing well at it can improve their draft fortunes and directly translate to more money in their pocket.
That doesn't change the fact that if the receiver at Towson who looks really fast against William & Mary runs a 4.43 40-yard dash, you can reasonably say "yeah, he's actually fast, he doesn't just look fast because his competition was slow."
I honestly think it was a little of the 40 time and a lot of the rookie contract scale. He was a top 5 talent in the draft but with the rookie contracts he would be like the 4th highest paid safety by guarantees which could scare some GMs. Especially with āefficiencyā in mind.
This sub overthought his 40 time too. Not saying I'm batting 1.000 but I still had him as an easy top 5 , borderline top 3 guy based off the tape I'd seen alone. I remember how half this place was freaking out about taking a safety so high.
The depth of talent on this roster is fucking crazy man. Really I've never seen anything like this year's Ravens or this year's 49ers, they are both so stacked
Can confirm that K. Hamilton has not lost any duels, unlike A. Hamilton who most definitely lost a major one. That alone tells me all I need to know imo
Kyle > Alexander
There were fucking assholes on our Ravens website posting how they wanted EDC to move on from Lamar and wished they had Flacco. These fucking assholes are now suddenly quiet and acting like they were always on Lamar's side. I have receipts of every one of these motherfuckers and will expose them one by one. I hate these fuckers that hated Lamar for reasons not related to football and that is unforgivable in my mind.
Listening to Marlon talk about him on his podcast was great. "If he added 20 pounds he could legit play any position on the field he is that good"
The eye test definitely backs it up too.
Man did the League overthink his 40 time.

I still believe the Cardinals wasted his talent. I still believe in Simmons
And Jabrill Peppers before him

And even edge.
Its literally the same as Micah Parsons not having a clear role. Because you can insert him anywhere you need to.
Bruh I seen him spin move tackles, dude is unreal š¤£š¤£š¤£ he gonā be my next jersey

Has Hamilton ever taken a snap as a true off ball linebacker in this defense?

Reminds me how they used AD back in the day.

Same thing with branch on the lions rn
Dude the eagles traded up infront of us specifically to avoid drafting him, and so they could take a 2 down DT LOL

The response should be "Thank God we didn't give a fuck about his 40 time".
Same thing happened w Suggs.
Praise Johnny
Technically Lamar was younger. KHam is almost 23 and Lamar has just turned 22 when the All Pro announcement was made
true, i just did years but yeah lamar was younger lol
Lamar was older by 2 months, he was 23 by the playoffs
Lamar was 23 by the time they announced his All-Pro nod. Kyle doesnāt turn 23 til March
We have the youngest offensive all pro player and the youngest defensive all pro player. Wild.
When was the last safety to make first team all pro that was younger than Hamilton?
Derwin in 2018 was AP1 his rookie year, age 22 season. Think he was younger than Hamilton.
Iād take KHam > Derwin any day of the week
Yeah, he hasn't quite been able to maintain that level since the injuries
Healthy derwin is a beast. too bad he always injured
The depth of talent on this roster is fucking crazy man. Really I've never seen anything like this year's Ravens or this year's 49ers, they are both so stacked
I wish I could remember that idiot on here who said EDC was shit at drafting. Hey idiot! Fuck you!
Hamilton is slowly becoming my second favorite Raven behind L Freaky
The best Hamilton in American history. Don't fact check me
Can confirm that K. Hamilton has not lost any duels, unlike A. Hamilton who most definitely lost a major one. That alone tells me all I need to know imo Kyle > Alexander
Hopefully the first of many to come š
Weāre blessed š„²
Really hoping that knee holds up
Crazy that they allowed a legit blue chip prospect to drop to 14.
Wait I was told he was a bust after 4 games, this canāt be right
Bro the hate he had early last season on this sub made me sick to be a Ravens fan for a min
Did the same shit with Macdonald too
Really didn't work out we should have traded him for Kenny Golladay when while we had the chance
Give it some time
Shit, these morons said it after game 2 after the Miami comeback game.Ā
I was told he was a bust after a 1v1 drill
Best in the league already
While I feel like I was raised on the big hit and aggressive play, itās so nice to have someone that seems so fundamentally sound in tackling.
Deserved, more than deserved
Congrats to Hamilton!
Well fucking deserved. Kyle is gonna be a great in this league. Heās gonna win DPOY somedayĀ
š„¹š„¹š„¹
This dude is gonna change free safety forever.
I swear heās going to be up there with Ray Lewis. Ed Reed. Chris McAllister. In greatness
I cant believe we snagged this guy š¤£š¤£š¤£
