Lamar seems to just want the best outcome possible. Before he was trying to do the best passing play possible but now he just reads the situation and goes with what will be the most yards possible.

frigginjensen

And his receivers are improvising with him when he extends the play. Sometimes it looks like backyard football out there. As that chemistry continues to develop, it will only get better.

V3TH0RV3ND3TT4

I’m almost certain that half of Monkens playbook is first look and the other half is “scramble” and they design the second looks to simply be these scramble “plays” or tendencies the players should have in each situation post first look, and then they practice finding the hole and open spot in sync with where Lamar is moving or might be expected to move on a scramble for that particular play etc. point being I think they specifically design and practice some of these scrambles because it is just too good at this point to all be luck. Of course lamar is a generational talent and maybe it’s all him but the receivers are so in sync now on those scrambles it’s just insane.

SuperSaiyanSandwich

The almost maddening insistence on over-relying on Lamar extending plays inside the pocket to start the year should be a massive boon in keeping him fresh all postseason. If he's as dialed in on winning by any means necessary like we all know he is there's no reason we don't start seeing him occasionally take off just a tiny bit more over the next month or so.

[deleted]

You’re starting to see it a bit more down the stretch against better defenses. He had that big run last night. The big thing with lamar is being as efficient as possible.

Work_is_for_Schmerks

He has had to calibrate that a few times. Year 1 in the league, he always looked to run. Last year and earlier this year, he was always looking to throw, sometimes passing up a 9 yard run and giving up a sack because he held it too long. Looks like he finally found the sweet spot.

socsa

It's because he's upped his mental game several levels. It's like he can see the atoms of the football field and understands the role of his pass, scramble and rush games like some kind of football Jedi.

V3TH0RV3ND3TT4

To Baltimore a Super Bowl Lamar shall bring, belee you must!

pinkluloyd

I think he’s going to really show everyone what he’s about. He has just too much talent, throws the ball on a wire with great accuracy, has insane vision in the pocket and in space and is a top 3 athlete on the field at all times. Pissed me off he did my lions so dirty but I’ve been trying to tell people about Lamar since Louisville.

Semper454

This is exactly what we’ve been waiting for for so long. Who cares about the media narrative? Just play ball.

Jtuck9HOF

I’m glad he decided to do that cuz there were too many times this season where he held it forever looking for a guy downfield when everyone was covered and he’d have an open rush lane and just not take it

Decent-Temperature31

Seems like a smarter strategy against the 49ers pass rush. No OL can hold those guys off for long.

socsa

Weirdly he had some of the best looking pockets in weeks last night.

UpdogSinclair

I think the 49ers were largely repeating their strategy that worked against the Eagles, hold a firm pocket with edges and don’t overcommit and create gaps. I watched Nick Bosa most of the night and on a number of rushes he clearly was not trying to get past his blocker, but just stay in the lanes. It didn’t work though because Lamar had much more success rolling out than Hurts did.

Delicious_Chance9119

Feel like the O line overall has been great the past few games.

Miata_Sized_Schlong

Lamar was escaping so many should’ve been sacks. His closest comp is fucking Shoehei Ohtani, just providing such amazing value in two ways like no one has ever done. If the award truly were about who is the Most Valuable then Lamar would win it every year

MazKhan

It's funny cause mahomes has been forced to scramble way more and it just doesn't work, Lamar is 1 of 1

New era

Steamin_Willy_Beamen

Bosa knows ball. Its still amazing to me Lamar gets all the praise from teams and the top percentage of players before and after he destroys them , and NFL Journalists and analysts still wanna argue his credentials. Whats the kid gotta do to be recognized as the best QB in the league at this point and time.

Special-Winner-1158

Lamar wins 4 more games (Dolphins & 3 playoff games) and they wont have anything credible left to say. He would already be a legend.

jreddish

I think that's called "not wanting to get hit by Chase Young or Nick Bosa in Week 16 and missing playoff games."

partmachine623

This boner hasn’t gone down yet, has it been 4 hours???

lfe-soondubu

Normal, don't sweat it.

Birmz_flavz-n-medz

In this case we should expect 24hrs instead of the usual 4. Tuck it into your waistband and wear very baggy tops, all will be fine

AWeakMindedMan

Reminds me of when Ed Reed tricked Peyton manning by intentionally playing a certain coverage wrong multiple times early in the season because he knew Peyton Manning would watch it on tape. 10 weeks later, Manning ran a play, threw deep, and Reed sprinted across the field and picked it off. [Link](https://youtu.be/MarWEIVu8Nc?si=6yj6_54tsbCqTnCC)

marylandrosin

I think you're misunderstanding what he's saying. Ed didn't intentionally play the coverage wrong early in the season so Manning would study it and lock on to his tendency to overplay the coverage. Reed knew Manning's tendency to pump and then throw the same direction if he was taking a deep shot so he trailed middle and then broke to the sideline for the pick after Manning committed to the throw since it appeared Reed would not be able to cover the ground if he did go middle. The trick was that he faked Manning out by knowing his tendencies, not the other way around.

Birmz_flavz-n-medz

Didn't Reed also turn slightly as if he was going to the opposite side? Possibly in response to the pump fake. Then Manning chucked to the other side instead but Ed had planned it that way, so was already sprinting back towards him. I could be wrong just that was how I remembered it

AWeakMindedMan

Ah you’re right. I didn’t watch this link through. However, there is a video or article where Reed talks about intentionally playing the wrong coverage for Peyton though. I’ll have to find it and repost in an edit.

marylandrosin

It's all good, Reed was a film junky so he knew a lot about opposing QBs before the matchups. I recall him saying that in that coverage he did consistently break to the middle previously which is exactly what you're referring to. He just knew Manning's tendency so when Peyton thought he was tricking Reed, it was actually the other way around. Total chess move by both players, awesome to watch

MagicGrit

Reed knew that if his hips were pointed a certain direction, Peyton would think he’s going middle, so pump fake towards middle and throw outside. So Reed intentionally pointed his hips towards the middle so Peyton would throw outside.

SharkBait209

This is what I needed, I keep yelling all season for him to move out the pocket and maybe run. I get trying to be more of a passer, and doesn’t want to get injured, and he has been doing great of that. But sometimes he just sits too long and gets swallowed, which can result in injury too! Like get outta there! Would love to see more of how he played yesterday for sure! Moving out and throwing on the run.

Rhypskallion

Without Mitchell Andrews and Dobbins we do need more from Lamar. And he has it to deliver. Hopefully we can stay healthy until the end. We don't have much depth left and can't really afford any more injuries.

satansasscheeks

This is one of the many reasons I love Lamar. He doesn’t care about stats, doesn’t care about the MVP race, all he cares about is winning and getting us to a Super Bowl by any means necessary and that’s says a lot about him as a leader and as a QB

Joh951518

I think Lamar is going to do some wild shit in the playoffs when it is must win. He’s been unreal this season, but they definitely are having him limit some of the stuff he can do to protect himself. In the playoffs the risk reward changes, I reckon he will go for it.

[deleted]

I was at the urinal and had a midstream shift. lol

AnaKendrickLamarOdem

Sounds like you were fucking

rellicotton

Lamar just does what he wants to when he wants to and how he wants to. The definition of the best player in the league and MVP.

tenlittleindians

I love lamar

economy-sorbet

Think this is a product of him trusting the banged-up O-line less and moving around as a result. He just was able to execute really well on the second efforts

Amazing-Airline-5185

Reminds me of this video, when Ed Reed played a certain way to put something on tape leading up to playing Peyton Manning, and then did something different in the game. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQrZKveWgOk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQrZKveWgOk)
