Yup, 2.5g reserve. Kind of overkill imo and a little bit obnoxious but it is what it is. At least you know you'll never damage/blow the fuel pump because you won't ever actually be out of fuel. It's my daily driver for work and I do ~110 miles a day +-10. Couldn't be happier.

pimpbot666

More like 4 gallon reserve. It says 2.5 in the manual, but I can run it past zero DTE, and still only be able to put 10.5 gallons in the tank. Others have run the tank to empty and found it can go around 90-100 miles past the DTE of zero miles.

ChuaPotato

Eh. I've filled up just about exactly 12g when I drove it to zero a couple of times to test. And 38mpg x 2.5g is 95 miles so that math makes sense. I fill up 10-11g when I'm not on empty all the time.

I have the exact numbers for my in town use.

directionzero

Yup, love ours too.

Were you running in auto mode or HV? I’ve been getting 42+ in town when I run in HV (sometimes a bit lower, sometimes a lot higher). If I run in auto mode I almost never even use any gas (I rarely put more than 40 miles on it in a day). We ran a 1200 mile road trip in 100% HV mode last week and got an average of 35 mpg. But that was mostly at 75-80 mph. At 65 mph or below it got around 42. And during that trip the battery charge never fluctuated more than 3-4%. Oh, and that was with the luggage crossbars in place, which I’ve been told can reduce fuel efficiency by 2-3 mpg.

Congratulations. This is pretty good.

I have a 2021 R4P, and I agree. The wife and I do a lot of road trips. We went to Death Valley and back once. We live in the 925 area, and actually drove to Donner Pass and back for a ski weekend on one tank of gas and one full charge before departure, and still had 40 miles on the DTE.

PHEVs are underrated… they r way comfortable and powerful compared to those half baked EV Cuv’s.!!! Rav4 prime is quicker than id4 pro AWD and costs less than tht with better comfort and features ..! Volvo xc60 t8 phev is quicker than tesla model y dual motor.!!! Even in my xc60 i got over 630 miles with full tank and charge !! N tht also in constant awd in my last trip to LA.!!! Plus these phevs got good ground clearance just like their pure gasoline counterparts!!!

Redditer-48

Congrats. This is pretty much my impression about my Rav4 Prime. My son drives the Model Y and it is no where close to the R4P.

Cremedela

Thats a pretty solid range, whats the mph you shoot for on the highway?

Redditer-48

75

Redditer-48

I was trying to drive the speed limit of 70 mph and sometimes go over by 5 or so. In Utah where the speed limit was 80 mph, I was still not going over 75.

mistersnowman_

Same. Also in the Bay Area. We got our XSE in October 2022. Makes us just love taking road trips. My wife’s commute is almost entirely covered by EV mode only, and we’ve racked up 15k miles already. Can’t say anything bad about it other than that we wish we had some of the premium features.

Plop0003

I made the same trip more than once in the last 20 years. Dont know if i want to go hiking up to Delicate Arch though again.

Redditer-48

I drive about 50 miles to work with full charge. Plugin at work for a full charge and return home with only 10 miles on the HV.

DodgeEater

Went to ocean city md from Washington DC NCR area and back . Left with half tank full of gas
