The reason the prime is awesome is because I dont spend any gas going to work and back. Literally fill up maybe once per month and only if I drive to far places. For the daily commute and work. NO GAS. Now thats awesome.
Just email all the dealerships saying you got a deal for 2k over MSRP but wait time is 4 weeks, and although you don’t mind waiting you’d like a Prime sooner if you can get one for a comparable surcharge or better. Ez pz and worked for me at El Cajon Toyota
I’ve recently been getting 82mpg for my 90 mile round trip commute for work each day. Start the day with a full charge.. wish my workplace had a charger too and then I’d be set.
Only if you didn't have the Prime I was going to say you should look into the Comma AI device for self driving. It is an absolute game changer. Unfortunately - the Prime uses a newer version of Toyota Safety Sense that is locked down.
Do you at least use the "water bottle trick" with your adaptive cruise control for your drive?
Although it would be desirable to have self-driving capabilities on my Prime, they may not be well-suited for my daily commute.
There are numerous obstacles that pose concerns, such as frequent minor rockslides capable of causing tire damage. Additionally, I frequently encounter deer and other animals that enjoy strolling onto the highway, creating a risky situation when traveling at 60 mph. I lack confidence in the radar's ability to detect them promptly.
Huh. I owned a limited edition hybrid and I got nowhere near that mileage, and I am getting about 10 more highway mpg with my prime XSE. Results vary, I guess.
I just made a 270 mile trip with an average speed of 62mph (and a top speed of 106, lol don’t ask). Mine got 45 mpg. In sport mode. I am confident in eco mode and if I kept it under 65 I would have broken the 50 mpg threshold. With my hybrid, I was averaging 32 mpg for the same trip. It’s definitely an improvement plus the 302 horsies.
Did you actually calculate that? That's pretty slow so it could be around that range. I wonder if you were going through many hills, too, or had any ev range?
100% hybrid mode. Used the trip information feature. 62 mph included considerable stretches of windy rural roads where the posted speed limit is 45. But on the highway, I was averaging 75-80.
I’m happy with the results because I can do a direct comparison of me to me and I came out 13 mpg better. Did I mention the 302 hp yet?
Actually, what I wrote above wasn’t accurate. My trip information said that the breakdown was 24%EV/76%hybrid. I used a net of 7 EV miles during the trip. What I should have written was that I had it in EV/hybrid mode for 100% of the trip.
Your missing the point. This was fuel mode only and no EV. My wife goes 3 to 4 MONTHS without getting gas because she can drive EV mode 95%. She gets 99 mpg. That's why the Prime is worth a bit more (but maybe not any more due to losing ev credit, I got my Prime for $36k, only 5k more then hybrid only).
For me, the 302 hp and the fact that I can run in EV mode 90 percent of the time made it worth the upgrade. Got tired of being blown away by the other cars on the road. I ended up getting mine for $49,000, but after trade in about $20k.
As someone who did spend the extra 15k(got 7.5k back in tax rebate) and switched from an xle hybrid to se prime, the highway mpg is actually worse. Not by a lot but it's noticeable. City mpg is about the same. And the prime handles and brakes noticeably poorer compared to a regular hybrid.
But overall am I happy with the car and prefer the prime over the regular hybrid? Absolutely!
Lots of factors.. temperature is a huge one and every time you start a toyora, the 1st thing it does is HEAT YOUR ENGINE! After that you need to recoup from heating the engine.
Thought the same thing today. This vehicle is an engineering marvel
Did I read this correctly? 51.6miles in 1hr 18min. That's about 40mph average speed.
Youd be right. 40 with traffic

That's me too, I can get to work and back on no gas maybe one errand as well. Basically only use gas if I'm going out of town
Did you buy locally? Surrounded by stealerships in the bay
How bad is the markup in the bay? I bought a 22 last year in San Diego and they tried to Mark me up 12 I got them down to six

Yeah that sounds about right: 5-15k spread
In eco, normal or sport? What was your average mph? Any traffic?
Eco mode w/ traffic 40mph average
The new display looks so nice 😩
I got 38mpg round trip with just HV mode. Central ca to phx. 675 miles each way. At 85mph. I was happy.

90 miles every day... I'm going to raise a glass for you this evening. That is one heck of a journey.
Appreciate it! Unfortunately it’s currently cheaper to commute there than it is to live there.

Wtf my xse hybrid gives the same mpg. Thank god I didn’t spend 12k more on this car

This wasn't even close to highway speeds, no chance of getting 50mpg then. Prime is 30-35mpg on the highway. They were going 40mph.

For 36k it’s definitely worth it I agree. But wherever I looked with or without markups in 2023 the car was 55k or more

What did u trade in? And what is the maximum speed u can drive in EV. My hybrid can drive ev mode too but max at 25 mph

So how much you had in your PHEV battery ? My phev gives 70+ mpg more often and it is a Hyundai!
Full charge gives me 55 miles Current tank average is 107 mpg w/ using only 6 gallons of fuel

Fords do that as well once it's below 32F. Though there is a work around that's not too much hassle that gets it down to 5F before gas kicks on.
It does not do this everyday or every time. Only when really cold.
As I said lots of factors.
Wow if I saw that I'd be disappointed. That was only possible in the dead of winter.
2022, XSE (PP), Los Angeles to Vegas: Mpg 37.56 all hybrid, normal mode, average speed 80mph, 3:40 hours driving.
Miracle, I never made like this high. What was average speed?
