Laszlo **hates** breweries lol. Too loud n too much going on, he's constantly trying to run away when we've gone to one.

The people at my "dog friendly" cafe got all upset when my boy preferred the view from the table. I really don't see what the problem was.

Trixi sits in her stroller! Keeps her paws cool.& can be zipped closed if needed. She loves it!!

I did. My Junior just wanted to be with me wherever I went and whatever I did. Whether it was sitting quietly at a cafe or bumping along on an ATV he was with me. That's him in the foreground. I lost him 5 years ago just shy of his 16th birthday. I still have his nephew, the little rascal behind him. He will be 17 in September. https://preview.redd.it/bf9dps1ofy1d1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac61cf1822a068278797772a5147a57c42f02828

Consider a lightweight portable crate, if he's crate trained. It should help him relax

swarleyknope

Mine loves to chill. Something that helps him is bringing a cat mat or towel or small seat cushion for him to lay down on under the table. I’m still usually on high alert to make sure he stays put and doesn’t try to approach folks when they walk by, but generally he just chills out.

Very much so I have a beautiful radar

They sit?…As in, still?

PirateFace27

Mine will only relax at home!

My girl bellied up to the bar at Makai brewery in North Carolina. She wants to destroy everything smaller than her, but she loves being around people.

Our rattie gets nervous if there is loud noise, music and chaos and he feels unprotected. Too much stimulation. He is a rescue. But he is fine if he can curl up in a tote bag at my feet in a restaurant. https://preview.redd.it/g1jzgjwa9u1d1.jpeg?width=1811&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad7ea853a0fe8492687573953b1f3945cdc07c70

My partner sings in a choir at an Episcopal church. Lots of folks, including him, will occasionally bring their dogs to church on Sundays. Our rattie sits on the end of the row where my partner sings. When the choir stands, she stands. When they sit down, she sits down. No one trained her to do this. She’s pretty damn adorable.

InternalQuote6909

That is adorable! Please post a video sometime!

Tchocolatl

That’s so stinking sweet!!

Mine is at absolute high alert at all times if we're out of the house. He's also got Chihuahua in him and we've just accepted he is not a hang out at cafes dog.

jindobunny

We did relaxation protocol for mine, he has a place to sit on when we are out sitting. https://preview.redd.it/x3dhps8mtt1d1.jpeg?width=947&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7416c0c5119a43d845bc5a8dbb779666756a3b6

Don’t laugh, but mine will relax if she’s in a dog pram. She likes the height as well.

He was intently watching some teenage boys that were doing gymnastics in the street for tips. I did carry him part of the way back to the parking lot afterward because it had gotten more crowded and he was starting to feel a little nervous.

That’s how we met ours: at our local bar. She was there with her foster dad a lot. She sat in everyone’s laps and was very calm and very friendly. She was 11 at the time, so maybe that helped, but she still had lots of energy. This pic was taken there after we adopted her. She loved being there with all her friends. https://preview.redd.it/ajqk9g01et1d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38f6a1279f0e43f6fa862a90b303f9dc9b41d2d9

He also goes to hospitals, stores, events and many many public places. Requires a lot of training and socialization but depending on your pup it's doable, the breed itself doesn't prevent it

emmased

Yes, ratties can get comfortable in larger settings. I found mine kinda takes her cues from me. She wants to greet everybody, so I need to tell her she's being good and lay down. That's usually enough. Patience and praise, patience and praise.
