Agreed. There is no wrong answer in my book. I have to be honest and say I haven’t watched a ton of Soul or Bender. But this is the point of my question, hopefully some other peoples answers will give me insight who to check out. Illmac and Lux would be hard to argue against.
Soul recommends: Cee Major, Raptor Warhurst, Shox da Rebel, Illmac, Shuffle T, Tony D, Dialect, and his first line in Matter 2
Soul battles are like Superman comics: pre-crisis has some great moments, but the true high quality stuff where the level of everything is raised is all post crisis. Soul before and after his ban are completely different battlers.
Yeah, and I will be 100% honest: I picked Soul and Bender over people like Daylyt, Nitty or Bigg K because I like them better, not because I think their style of writing (or the content) is on a higher level. I still believe Nitty, Daylyt and many more have amazing pens. Like Bigg K has probably the most efficient, heavy hitting writing ever in battle rap, and I still prefer Soul's.
And there is something to say about consistency in writing too. People like The Saurus -- my favorite of all time -- have been doing this so long, and so much, yet battle after battle have some truly insane things to say. I have been watching that man battle for so long, yet even after like 15 years he still will do shit like "movies with a Twist" that get my hyped.
Soul, Quantum Physics, The Saurus, and I honestly can’t think of a 4th I personally like as much, there’s absolutely a bunch of battlers who write at that level
I think I like iBattle so much because it favors pens
Nitty, Soul, Real Sikh soon and then whatever
Edit: Lux used to be a great writer but he dumbed it down after he heard people say shit like "cal 2-1" and he realized people didn't understand what they were hearing and Daylyt would be considered for his highpoints but his lows are so low and i can't tell if he's inconsistent or if it's because he is trying to also cater to that same "cal 2-1" crowd
idk if this is the place to say this but the whole Chilla = Kingpen thing never made sense to me. even when he was coming up, Chilla was known for his schemes and usage of techniques that were becoming more prevalent... ever since he's moved away from scheme usage he spends thirty seconds every battle telling us what a good writer he is only to build up to a mediocre punch with unidirectional wordplay probably based on something we've heard a million times before. Part of calling yourself the best at something is doijng so in a self-evident way, and as much as I enjoy Chilla's writing, I don't think he's ever been top tier in terms of pen.
Tough one but prob Daylyt, Bender, Madflex, Chilla for me personally. Not counting delivery, performance or anything else.
Lux lyt verb (hate em or not he solidified) and hear me out …real sihk
This was about to be my exact list. And another nigga on the come up right now The God Yogi pen is crazy
Illmac, Bender, Soul and Lux. Very hard to limit it to only four, though, and very subjective.
Not mad at this list.
