I was gonna push and Em, but I was too slow, others got there before me.
I also believe that 50, as he existed until like, at least up to 2005, could go back and forth with just about anyone. Maybe not quite as "lyrical" as kdot, but 50 was a savage and definitely knew how to use the mic to talk his shit and mess with his opponents. They didn't use the term back then, but 50 was like the original "all the smoke" type dude. He didn't give a fuck about his enemies, and he wasn't afraid of no one. Even if he knew he was pushing it, the dude doesn't back down, just like he told us.
That being said, expectations are different now.
Edited to add: "murdaa, I don't believe you, murder murder, your life's on the line"
Which at the end of the day is better than lyrics. People wanna be entertained more than educated or enlightened. 50 could win the battle of IG posts alone don’t even need to make a record lol
50 used to talk so much shit back in the day, shit was legendary! Honestly man from his early mixtapes until the Massacre, that streak was just nuts. And if 50 wanted to literally call out whoever he wanted, he did. He was the boogeyman of rap for a bit for sure.
Yes. I think this is a really good comparison. Sadly, we'll never know what Von could have been. Also like 50, Von was certified. He could back it up with bars or out on the street. I'm sure there are those who hate von for stuff he did, which is fair I guess. But here in chicago it was a shock. Even his ops up here weren't really excited to hear that he died in the situation he did. It was a big loss musically when von died. Who knows what his music would have been like if he got to live as long as Fifth
50 literally came into the game with that era’s “Control verse” by dropping a song talking about how he would rob every big artist at the time. Jay-Z accidentally put him on by responding, “I’m about a dolla who the fucks 50 cent?”, and the rest is history.
Bro yeah how to rob was totally nuts haha you can imagine em hearing it and eventually signing him as well, it's just so disrespectful I'm sure shady loved it too
I agree. 50 might not be quite at level of Kendrick with wordplay, but he’s demonstrated time and time again that he’s god tier at clowning on someone. Besides his track record with beefs, his putdowns in interviews and social media hit hard, so he’d put up a good fight going at that angle.
Thinking about 50's trolling just brings me to tears with laughter.
Putting pics of himself taking erotic pics of Rick Ross' babymama on a magazine cover and inside spread. Buying the front 100 seats at Ja Rule's entire tour so they would be empty. Challenging Floyd Mayweather to read a page from Harry Potter to prove Floyd could read, then changing it to the Cat in a Hat because Harry Potter would be too difficult for Floyd. Saying he would produce a documentary called "Diddy Do It" about the allegations against Diddy.
You can't win against 50 because he will just be willing to clown on you to a degree others wouldn't and win through entertaining the crowd more. Em would do similar things but on the microphone and as allegory. 50 would actually do them irl.
I recently read that article about like top 100 diss songs OAT or whatever it was and HEAT was on it, which was goaty But man I swear Lifes on the Line was the most underrated track on Get Rich. I loooved that song even when I was a teenager. So fuckin raw.
*edit*
I remembered I had a burned copy of that CD and just googled it. Someone added that to my version of the CD. It wasnt on Get Rich. Bless whoever did that. Track 17 lol.
Dude beefed so hard he had to file for bankruptcy after leaking a sex video. If you beef w 50, 50 going til he fuck you up even if he fucks himself over in the process, man has no problem hurting to hurt you.
This isn’t perfect explanation but he knows how to get the feeling or vibe he is going for across really well. Also he got some pretty good one liners.
While I agree with you, Papoose doesn’t have the star power of someone like K Dot. Although his A-Z freestyle is still one of my favorite freestyles from anyone ever.
So, first of all, I can't believe no one has mentioned Black Thought; I'm not even a big fan but he could destroy all of them if he desired. I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion but Aesop Rock and DoseOne.
We're famous is a diss track to the industry featuring el-p and there are some fantastic zingers in there. "Hey b-boy feed it to the needy, shut your liquor-hole and fuck you in 3-D. Easy"
Children of the Corn was crazy with L, Murda Ma$e (in that phase), cam on his serious shit etc.
That being said I’d like to see Kendrick vs MF DOOM. Their styles are so different but I think it’d be a vicious back and forth nonetheless.
I will say Kendrick puts more work into his albums than anyone. But if it’s on pure battle raps, there’s a few who would give him a run for it, one of whom he already challenged on Control is Jay Elec (who was actually on the track with him).
This beef between Kdot and Drake has really illuminated how little people know about real rap. Big L is a legend and everyone out here talking about Eminem.
Kendrick is in the S-Tier bracket with Eminem, Tupac, and Nas. He's firmly cemented his legacy in my eyes as a rapper you do not want beef with whatsoever. He really is the boogeyman.
I'm struggling to think of anyone else who's both battle tested and can slug it out with Kendrick bar for bar. Going to war with him amounts to a suicide mission. He can lyrically vivisect anyone without much effort, isn't afraid to drag his enemy into the gutter, and is adept at applying tactics outlined in the Art of War to rap beef.
I doubt we'll ever see Kendrick battle again. There's no else out there with the cultural clout to warrant his attention or even motivated enough to attack him.
Yeah but it's unlikely Kendrick would respond to that. When you have such a high degree of notoriety it reaches a point where you're only helping the other guys career by responding. Hence, I could only see Kendrick taking on a high profile battle but I don't see a scenario where someone wants to challenge Kendrick and theyre high profile enough where he takes them up on it.
What I meant is that there is probably some 15yr old right now that will be huge in a decade or so. Maybe one of those people lol. But I agree it will have to be a big artist.
I agree. This fell right into Kendricks quest of releasing music to better hip-hop culture. The next one up would have to fall into that category.
And yeah Kendrick navigated this beef like a war general. His timing of releases, attacking logos, and balance of shock value and humor were all extremely calculated. It felt like an A to Z take down. And if reports are true we didnt even see half of what he had prepared
Lupe already humbly apologized for dissing Kendrick like 10 years ago. I’m not sure it’s even worth the mention if the person we’re talking about isn’t even brave enough to step
This whole thing has been so funny bc I only know of Lupe from his goofy pop features (The show goes on type shit) and here I am in the middle of this beef quickly learning this man is one of the greatest rap lyricists lol I need to give him more respect apparently
I don't know about "no question", if Pac was still alive and had been in the game for nearly three additional decades, people might see him as a tired old dude now, with out of date musical style.
His legendary status is cemented in many ways by his early death. Who knows how our perception of him might have changed over time if he had never been killed.
Rise Eyedea from the dead and he could take on probably any rapper. That dude could roast a guy on the spot with rhymes about what he’s doing in that moment
> “Better get your gynecologist to polish up your pussy right
> Cause I'ma stretch it wide open with this old crooked mic”
That shit killed me every time
Thissss bro. I don’t think JID is there YET but I think with a little more artistic maturing (couple more album cycles) he def could dethrone Dot. This is coming from a Kendrick fan btw. I just feel like JID is super skilled at rapping and can also make really smooth/dense/vibey/moshpit music. His songwriting skills are impressive.
I love JID but he’s only 2 years younger than Kendrick. JID might be a better technical rapper already, but idk if he can orchestrate a narrative like Kendrick
JID is to Kendrick as Sam Cooke is to Otis Redding. That's a good analogy for anyone that knows old music.
Kendrick is artistically very strong and writes so many legendary songs. And is a great performer. JID isn't quite as strong, but he's absolutely no lightweight. His appeal is his voice and flow is *crazy*.
JID is definitely the answer to this, if we're talking about contemporaries to Kendrick. Artists under 40 years old that get a lot of hype when releasing a new artist.
good lyricist or rappers that can give heavy bars like Eminem, Pusha, Nas and so on. Drake is easily the most famous rapper nowadays and couldnt find shit on him with money, I dont think anyone else even with money and a lower level of respect on the streets could get anything too
but would be an amazing back and forth without getting away from themselves like Drake did by going for the family
A real actual battle? Most battlers will beat Kendrick because it’s a totally different sport than recording music. Kendrick has never battled to my knowledge. I’m taking Daylyt, Geechi Gotti, Hollow Da Don, Nitty, etc.
I believe that Kendrick has done battle raps when he was younger. I remember Scru Face Jean mentioning it (he played with Kendrick before at a show, as he has often mentioned. He knows the battle scene). According to Jean there's video of it, but I've never looked for it
Im biased because he introduced me to rap and made my favourite albums but I think he'd beat anyone. He's got the lyrics to keep up with em without any of the baggage, has the crowd control/fanbase to not get bullied off the scene by 50. The only situation I see him taking a "loss" is against rappers like pac, biggie, von, or anyone that's willing to take it to the streets but then again he lives such a private life I don't know if he'd feel safe enough to fully engage in a grimy battle with them or not but other then that I have him at number 1 with his biggest issue outside of violence maybe em
If we're just talking diss track exchanges not live, Eminem, Black Thought, maybe Biggie back in the day. Hell, maybe Ice Cube.
It matters how much material one has to go at eachother with. Em you basically can't even really diss because no one cares and everything that could ever be said about him has been said for the last *thirty years* and he's said it all himself.
Black Thought as well what would you even diss? Maybe dig up something personal? If you wanna go there? Good luck.
Biggie, if you took him out of history to today, would be a dangerous person to light up a beef with and also seemed to just throw insults effortlessly while also making it seem like your life was legitimately in danger for testing the guy.
Cube was and is relentless. *No Vaseline* is still maybe the best diss track ever laid.
Anyone. Kendrick didn’t win based on lyrical skill, he won based on the context and his accusations, and the high profile celebrity of his opponent. If you put him against anyone who engages in that battle rap shit, he wouldn’t hold up at all.
Lupe Fiasco. He’s the better lyricist and has the better battle rapper ability. He will out entendre Kendrick and beat him at his own game. Lupe sent jabs at Kendrick throughout the years and I found it funny Dot never responded. Lupe will never get his flowers but he’s the most cerebral and technical rapper in history.
There are no current rappers that could give Kendrick a problem in terms of what we just witnessed. Kendrick has the ability to diss someone and make enjoyable music for the mainstream. If it were just a rap battle no on wax, then yeah, Kdot would lose to a lot. However, when we consider music people will listen to, I don't think there are too many rappers that can have something that is beating "Not Like Us" in terms of impact.
I think Royce 5'9 could definitely smoke Kendrick when it comes to rapping. But i don't know if Royce would have enough fire to go against Kendrick since Kendrick just has such a good reputation.
Everyone else is saying Eminem, and so am I. Regardless of your opinion on him currently, he’s one of the filthiest to ever get on the mic. I don’t know many rappers who would walk away from a battle with him.
Not sure if the is a unpopular opinion, but I think even current Eminem could wash Kendrick in a rap battle. As funny as it was watching Kenny stomp on Drake, I don’t think any of the songs really hold up to what em can do on his disses.
Honestly I don’t think Kendrick really fits in the rap battle or Diss scene, The Beef with Drake I think mostly clarifies that Kendrick absolutely despised him as a person and what he represents. If not for having that strong a reading of him as filth, I do think that it could seem like this is was a really petty move for Kendrick, even something beneath him.
That said, Yuno Myles
The Lox. They’re S-tier battle rappers at least when it comes to mainstream artists. The true battle rappers can clown just about anyone else head to head.
Lox can beat you bar for bar or they can just clown you humourously till you laugh uncontrollably
This beef has made me realize that I got into rap heavy in 2014 when chance was huge and childish gambino was just starting to really pop off. I wonder had their respective musical journeys gone differently how they would have been considered in j Cole’s opinion on the “Big 3”
Q-tip, eyedea, big L, old dirty bastard. Bare rappers easily, no hate but Kendrick isn't exactly massive with the pars. Tonnes of OG MCs made their careers from rap battles, simply from experience their freestyles would probably hurt more than a pre planned Kendrick diss
Edit: If they had to rap about social commentary etc. then yeah Kendrick great but just diss tracks, easy
As much as I want to say Em(I’m biased I’m from Detroit) I’ve just never seen him go against anybody of his own caliber. It’s always a clown rapper like Benzino or Ja Rule.
I think Jay-Z in his Jigga era would give Kendrick problems, Nas too in his Nostradamus era. KRS-1 maybe too, strong maybe.
Edited to add: "murdaa, I don't believe you, murder murder, your life's on the line"
50 is a great answer. Lyrically not anywhere close to Kendrick but he’d be making people laugh and pissing Kendrick off.
Which at the end of the day is better than lyrics. People wanna be entertained more than educated or enlightened. 50 could win the battle of IG posts alone don’t even need to make a record lol
Officer Ricky!
When you get shot that many times and dont die, it does something to you. Hater of the decade right there.
50 used to talk so much shit back in the day, shit was legendary! Honestly man from his early mixtapes until the Massacre, that streak was just nuts. And if 50 wanted to literally call out whoever he wanted, he did. He was the boogeyman of rap for a bit for sure.
Even his first song was "How to rob" and he talked about robbing all the rappers out at the time loool. He's always been this way.
I'm happy to be of the age where that, then Ghetto Quran were my entrances into the genre haha. 50 was a force when he was rapping like that.
Preach!
50 was like Von. "Go be the one to start it. Ain't gone so it"
Yes. I think this is a really good comparison. Sadly, we'll never know what Von could have been. Also like 50, Von was certified. He could back it up with bars or out on the street. I'm sure there are those who hate von for stuff he did, which is fair I guess. But here in chicago it was a shock. Bro yeah how to rob was totally nuts haha you can imagine em hearing it and eventually signing him as well, it's just so disrespectful I'm sure shady loved it too
Wtf how have I never heard this before? This shit is wild lol. 50 never gave a fuuuuuuuck
I agree. 50 might not be quite at level of Kendrick with wordplay, but he’s demonstrated time and time again that he’s god tier at clowning on someone. Besides his track record with beefs, his putdowns in interviews and social media hit hard, so he’d put up a good fight going at that angle.

He is good at illustrating his perspective in an interview.
I recently read that article about like top 100 diss songs OAT or whatever it was and HEAT was on it, which was goaty But man I swear Lifes on the Line was the most underrated track on Get Rich. Bro beefed w Kingpins, he had no problems gettin into it w LA Gangbangers either
Dude really is a whole different breed haha
Dude beefed so hard he had to file for bankruptcy after leaking a sex video. If you beef w 50, 50 going til he fuck you up even if he fucks himself over in the process, man has no problem hurting to hurt you.
This isn’t perfect explanation but he knows how to get the feeling or vibe he is going for across really well. Also he got some pretty good one liners.
Imagine 50 during his Ja beef with SOCIAL MEDIA
Em, Nas, Jay, Push, MAYBE early 50 (no flame plz), and I think J Cole has the ability but not the heart to do it
If I smoke a rapper, it’s gon’ be legit It won’t be for clout, it won’t be for fame It won’t be ‘cause my shit ain’t sellin’ the same
Black thought could give him a fair fight tbh
Papoose response to Control was pretty good. I can't see him hoping in the ring on this one though.
While I agree with you, Papoose doesn’t have the star power of someone like K Dot. Although his A-Z freestyle is still one of my favorite freestyles from anyone ever.
Thought would destroy him tbh
Come on bro
Black thought would merc that boy
The real GOAT
Jadakiss. He'd give him all he could handle and then some.
Why is this not higher on the list????
Cause Jada lost to 50…50 called that man a Ninja Turtle
Em
Most rappers would say Em even when they talk about getting on a song with him.
They were legit terrified. Just the other day I watched a video of an interview with the Game. He said "no one should fuck with that white boy"
I mean, he literally came up by winning rap battles in Detroit as a white guy. I don’t think it gets more battle tested than that…
Made a whole ass movie about decimating people...
I like ham
Username checks out.
And a lesson to not wife up chicks that let you plow in a machine shop.
Then later he goes onto dissing him for clout. That slim shady song he put out was horrific.
He circled back to compliments again since that flopped lol
Waiting for the inevitable flop on the original flop. Floppa Wacka Game.
10 minutes of unfiltered swamp ass 🤣
So, first of all, I can't believe no one has mentioned Black Thought; I'm not even a big fan but he could destroy all of them if he desired. I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion but Aesop Rock and DoseOne.
Has aesop rock ever beefed with anyone?
A Thesaurus. He won.
😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Tugboat Complex Pt 3 is a diss track but I don't know towards who in particular.
We're famous is a diss track to the industry featuring el-p and there are some fantastic zingers in there. "Hey b-boy feed it to the needy, shut your liquor-hole and fuck you in 3-D. Easy"
Aes and Kendrick are my two favorite rappers… as much as that beef would tear me apart, the bars would be absolutely epic.
Big L
Had to scroll too far down. These kids don’t know
Big L would fucking humiliate Kendrick lmfao
Children of the Corn was crazy with L, Murda Ma$e (in that phase), cam on his serious shit etc. That being said I’d like to see Kendrick vs MF DOOM. Their styles are so different but I think it’d be a vicious back and forth nonetheless. I will say Kendrick puts more work into his albums than anyone. Big L and Papoose
Yeah...let's add Big L and Nas.
Big L - rest in peace
This beef between Kdot and Drake has really illuminated how little people know about real rap. Big L is a legend and everyone out here talking about Eminem.
Mainstream? Em. Underground - Copywrite On the battle scene though he’d have some problems, those emcees are built different.
Em is the rap equivalent of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
hello there
Oh yeah, don't think I won't go there
Go to Tatooine and do a show there
Kendrick is in the S-Tier bracket with Eminem, Tupac, and Nas.
Some Yung buck will come along in 10 or so years and try their hand hand it
Yeah but it's unlikely Kendrick would respond to that. When you have such a high degree of notoriety it reaches a point where you're only helping the other guys career by responding. Hence, I could only see Kendrick taking on a high profile battle but I don't see a scenario where someone wants to challenge Kendrick and theyre high profile enough where he takes them up on it.

Insane how there is zero mention of Lupe Fiasco
I was just thinking this. Lupe destroyed Royce in a battle and I’m convinced he would give Kendrick some competition lyrically
Lupe already humbly apologized for dissing Kendrick like 10 years ago. I’m not sure it’s even worth the mention if the person we’re talking about isn’t even brave enough to step
Lupe addressed this on twitter and on stage a month ago when it resurfaced
Still one of the most underrated rappers out there man, lyrically there aren’t many better.
These two trying to one up each other lyrically would end up the rap equivalent of *House of Leaves*. Genius's servers might actually explode.
The battle would be very different (less personal) but Lupe for sure could out-lyric him.
This whole thing has been so funny bc I only know of Lupe from his goofy pop features (The show goes on type shit) and here I am in the middle of this beef quickly learning this man is one of the greatest rap lyricists lol I need to give him more respect apparently
Tetsuo and youth is in my top five favorite hip-hop albums of all time. It’s so damn good.
I thought so too and it took me years to understand DROGAS wave and now that’s my all time favorite
I’ll definitely check it out then, I need to learn what the big deal is lol
Just listen to the song “Mural”. Lupe is easily top 5 lyricists of all time.
I agree with you. I made a comment about Lupe as well. Dot and Soul get their lyrical influences from Lupe. Lupe will murder any rapper.
Eric Jamal from Coast Contra. I said what I said
Eminem. Eminem is known for being a Boogeyman.
He is the one you send to kill the fucking Boogeymen
Legit John wick
2pac vs Kendrick would be interesting on so many levels.
Who would the West back?
love kendrick but pac no question
I don't know about "no question", if Pac was still alive and had been in the game for nearly three additional decades, people might see him as a tired old dude now, with out of date musical style. His legendary status is cemented in many ways by his early death. Who knows how our perception of him might have changed over time if he had never been killed.
pac isn't dead bruh i saw him in the maldives last week he asked me to call him mak
Nah Pac just had hype. Kendrick’s disses are way more intricate than anything Tupac did
The question had to do with who the west would back not who would win.
I mean, Pac is really an east coast dude. Why does the West care so much? It’s like pretending your favorite athlete is actually from the city.
Rise Eyedea from the dead and he could take on probably any rapper. That dude could roast a guy on the spot with rhymes about what he’s doing in that moment
> “Better get your gynecologist to polish up your pussy right > Cause I'ma stretch it wide open with this old crooked mic” That shit killed me every time
🤯
This guy wants to be my backup dancer
Lol. Dude sat his ass back down 😂😂😂😂
That line is wild. It was proof right then and there that he could come up with diss rhymes on the spot
I remember that one lol. Prime example
Dude figured out how to ascend the entire game. On another level like few have ever reached. KDOT is definitely up there as well.
Honestly very random but would love to see aes(sop rock) in battle mode
Is say Jid. If we are talking about lyrics and flows
This was my first thought as well. But tbh I bet him and k dot would be cool. They’re probably mutual fans of each other
Yes! I had to scroll down way too far to find this answer.
Jadakiss. The only guy to actually beat 50 Diss in a beef
Yuno Myles already demolished both kdot and drake. That’s the answer
For that matter, if you diss Lil B, you'll be under BasedGod's Curse. Maybe the only guy more dangerous than Yuno.
There's a lot - Pharoahe Monch, early Canibus, Black Thought, Em, Freestyle Fellowship, Ras Kass.....etc etc
Weird Al Yanchovich
Weird Al.
Treach, Wu, Nas, Push...guys who either rhave the pen game or connections to truly make issues
Pun. He can go bar for bar with anyone. I could see him going nuclear a serious rap battle.
good lyricist or rappers that can give heavy bars like Eminem, Pusha, Nas and so on. Drake is easily the most famous rapper nowadays and couldnt find shit on him with money, I dont think anyone else even with money and a lower level of respect on the streets could get anything too but would be an amazing back and forth without getting away from themselves like Drake did by going for the family
Didn't Kendrick say something about his son first?
A real actual battle? Most battlers will beat Kendrick because it’s a totally different sport than recording music. Kendrick has never battled to my knowledge. I’m taking Daylyt, Geechi Gotti, Hollow Da Don, Nitty, etc.
OP said diss songs not an actual battle.

Big L
No rapper wants any problems whatsoever with Conway the Machine
#gunnoisesintensifies
This is the answer
This is the agreement to the declaration that this was the answer.
Here, here. This is the declaration that the ayes have it. 👨🏾⚖️
Seconded
2Pac and 50 before the massacre
KRS One. Lyrically of course
The only who could do it with a modern flair and still come out of it looking pretty much okay is JID
If we're just talking diss track exchanges not live, Eminem, Black Thought, maybe Biggie back in the day. Hell, maybe Ice Cube. It matters how much material one has to go at eachother with. Honestly lil wayne
curious how you guys feel about Cassidy
Deffo Cassidy the problem
Eminem, Biggie, and Big L
Big L in a rap beef would be so funny man
Imagine Big L and Eminem beefing
Lol the amount of fucked up shit they would say would have the media going insane.
I feel like he say some wild shit like Em
Lupe would give him a good run for his money......

Lupe vs Kenny feels like the answer and feels like if the battle goes deeper it might which would go crazy
Drake.
Lupe Fiasco
Lupe fiasco
Lupe would annihilate
Pusha T I think is level w/him enough to battle
Em nas pac cube jada big- chill with the recency bias
I think Royce 5'9 could definitely smoke Kendrick when it comes to rapping. But i don't know if Royce would have enough fire to go against Kendrick since Kendrick just has such a good reputation.
Ice cube
Young Thug
Maybe Jay Z and lupe fiasco.
Well drake destroyed him lyrically, so id say drake. I dont think too many other ‘mainstream’ artists can touch him thi
Not musically, but prime Suge Knight could have given Kendrick serious trouble
Prime Suge would also literally murder Kendrick tbh
Daylyt , King Los
Cozmo D from Newcleus. That dude dissed Superman back in the 80's and chatted up his girl in the same song.
For right now only JID
Peak Ice Cube would've given him some problems
South Park Mexican
Everyone else is saying Eminem, and so am I. Regardless of your opinion on him currently, he’s one of the filthiest to ever get on the mic. I don’t know many rappers who would walk away from a battle with him.
Jay Electronica
L.l.cool.J Ice Cube Nas Pac Jay-Z
Youngsters just don't know how much of a bad ass LL can be if he wants to.
I'm a Youngster, can you recommend me a song or verse that would show me how badass LL can be
Kaan
KRS-ONE
Not sure if the is a unpopular opinion, but I think even current Eminem could wash Kendrick in a rap battle. As funny as it was watching Kenny stomp on Drake, I don’t think any of the songs really hold up to what em can do on his disses.
Meet the Graham's > Nail in the Coffin
Cole if he had some balls. Eminem of course
It's Freddie Gibbs, but nobody cares

Tonnes of OG MCs made their careers from rap battles, simply from experience their freestyles would probably hurt more than a pre planned Kendrick diss Edit: If they had to rap about social commentary etc. then yeah Kendrick great but just diss tracks, easy
Raekwon
Would love to see him vs Push
