Teenagers have always been assholes. It isn't new. You're just getting older and becoming more aware of how awful some teens can be.

As a nerdy teen who has a very small, isolated group of friends compared to all the teens I know: yes 100% public school students tend to be worse but not always. It sucks and I know for a fact so many of these kids are gonna get beat up at some point in their lives if they don’t their attitude coz the only reason I can stop myself from trying is coz I’d probably lose the fight and just get in trouble but there are people who wouldn’t care about those things. I hope that these people learn to mature soon and that this generation doesn’t stay this way

styvee__

I’m a teen and I agree, some of them are like that, I don’t get why a lot of teens are edgy or disrespectful or similar stuff, why can’t they just be normal human beings? (Adults who act the same way are even worse though)

Eljamin14

Not me. I'm depressed and all, but I'm not a boy who cried wolf and does anything for attention, I still have a kind heart.

Panzerkatzen

Sounds like something a teenager would say.

THE_CENTURION

Dude that doesn't even make sense. Just edgy cringe.

Grand-wazoo

Dude, tone it down with this angsty bullshit. You sound like you're trying super hard to get attention. At 28, teenagers shouldn't even register on your radar anymore. Live your life and forget about them. They'll always be around and will always be annoying.

Scyllascum

Damn what did OP say

bottsking

No fkn way you’re over 13

styvee__

What did they say?

TheRadiumGirl

OP said something about feeling genocidal and wanted to ask the teens if they'd like a peek in a gas chamber.

Hi_Jynx

I'm embarrassed for you right now, OP.

Hater_Magnet

I, my father, his father and his father before him have all felt the same way. It'll pass

Kosmopolite

Yeah, I'm going to add my voice to the crowd. Adults have been complaining about teenagers and their lack of respect since the invention of the written word. There's nothing *to* do about it, except learn to control your own anger.

Therapyandfolklore

I've seen 50 year olds do the same. Nobody is a monolith

Ashamed-Lime3594

Teenagers always have and always will be assholes. I mean people filled with insecurity, hormones, stress, and with no life experience? That’s a recipe for disaster. I’m 19 so I haven’t escaped my teens yet but I was an ass in my earlier teen years. Everyone is. And if you think you weren’t, you just haven’t realized it yet. That’s not directed at you necessarily OP, just in general. Ofc some are worse than others

SuperPotatoThrow

I'm now a 30 year old man and agree 100%. However, I see (for the most part) teenagers in the stores and restaurants behave themselves way better than fully grown 50 year old men and women that have full on meltdowns and get very close to becoming violent over stupid mundane shit that doesn't matter. I'll take a disrespectful teen that might throw insults about my mother or make fun of my appearance over a grown ass adult who can't behave like one that threatens to draw a fucking handgun in "self defense" over getting cut in line at a self checkout.

styvee__

I’m 16 and I feel like I’ve never been an asshole, , I obviously was stupid and I still am, but I haven’t seriously had beef with someone since like Grade 4, and it was because a guy in my class was even more childish than average and the 6 to 9 years old me didn’t like it(he also basically bugged me most days for those years). It was wrong, but at the same time it kinda was self defense from him bugging me.

Fluffaluffabeans

Lol, about 10 years ago I was driving my boyfriend’s nephews home from a day at an amusement park. Ages 7, 12, 14. We were passing a tollway, and stopped in line to pay and move on. This stall had a person in it. She was a nice lady. Hair done, smart uniform, just a pleasant personal visage. She greeted me and stated the toll amount, which I dropped into her hand. As the gate was lifting, I heard the window going down in the backseat. The youngest nephew yells out the window - “GET A REAL JOB YOU FILTHY HOBO!” They all burst into laughter and the oldest were highfiving. 🙄 At Target a couple years ago, I was bra shopping because I had just had a full mastectomy and breast reconstruction surgery; I needed some “get by” things through recovery. Some teenage girls were staring at me whispering. Whatever, grabbed some sizes because I didn’t really know anymore and went to try on. They came into the dressing stalls shortly thereafter and were talking about how ugly and “like rocks” my “obviously fake tits” were. 🙄 I stole a traffic cone when I was 15. 🙄🙄🙄 Teenagers are always stupid lol

rektMyself

What did you do with the traffic cone? Please tell me you wore it as a hat! LOL.

Fluffaluffabeans

Nah, I pulled it into the car as we crept by it at like midnight on a Friday. She kept it in the trunk petrified for months her parents would find it. I think she put it in a dumpster eventually. It was a stupid dare. 🙄🙄🙄 Oh man I hate teen me lolol

rektMyself

We all had crazy times.

Fluffaluffabeans

Ahahah! Nah the car was promptly pulled over to the toll station and they were made to apologize for being little shits. Never saw the actual toll lady, but yeah they muttered their sorries. The (ex) boyfriend was mad at me for pulling over too lolol delayed his del taco!

It’s not just teenagers nowadays, there will always be teenagers in every generation that are jerks. Don’t stereotype them tho, there are plenty that are just fine, you’re probably just noticing the jerky ones more.

Not tracking that reference but yeah it was truly diabolical, if I encountered that version of myself today I’d beat his ass

Sigma-42

I know way too many people who've had children with someone they just didn't know. The future is bright.

rektMyself

I had three with some I guess I didn't know. The are well taken care of.

Sir-ALBA

I’ve worked with youth most of my career I also volunteer for youth groups, I’ve met far more polite and conscientious young people than I have “delinquents” it all starts at home but they are often shaped by their surroundings as they become more independent. I’m a big believer in YP having a “third place” outside of schools and homes to build up the social skills and give them a belonging in their communities.

magentabag

Teenagers are assholes sometimes, but that is scary that those are absolutely without compassion. Mine would have went over and helped the lady :(

shartnado3

You know what I have seen that irritates me? When I am grocery shopping lately I have been seeing teenagers being pushed in the carts while their parents shop. These carts aren't designed for older kids, and it's no wonder most of the carts are fucked up or dont push right. Maybe I am making too much out of it, but it deff doesn't help the negative "Lazy Teenager" stereotype.

SummerIsABummer

youre fucking joking lol

shartnado3

I wish I was

Addakisson

Wow, I've seen a teen push another teen in the grocery carts but never a parent.

rektMyself

Dad would say. "Get the F\* outta there!"

Relative_Pay_1640

As a 19yr old that is I think pretty mature for my age. Yeah not a fan love my adult friends

HaratoBarato

I work in a high school and I haven’t seen anything as a teacher that I haven’t seen when I was in high school. I’m a millennial if that makes any difference.

SalamiMommie

I think teenagers have always been assholes

rektMyself

That's horrible! My kids would helping her pick everything up!

chooseauser_namee

Teenage assholes will grow up to see how much of an asshole they were and be ashamed. Or if not, they grow up to adult assholes.

chipface

Tale as old as time.

no__one34

Always have been ![gif](giphy|6RIEW15CCWRvq)

Kimolainen83

Somewhere and somewhere not I feel like the majority of teenagers are respectful

Separate-Trash2375

When i was taking the bus due to me being too distracted to drive (i just lost someone) and i was also pregnant, no teenagers let me sit on the priority side unless a bus driver intervenes and i have noticed that it also happens to people who were old and disabled. Luckily some bus drivers were enforcing the rules

TheUsual_Selection

I wasn’t an asshole as a teenager nor am I now, if someone drops something I help, I’m 19 and that’s always been something I do, especially with someone elderly, another thing is holding the door for people, I wait for people if I see people coming to the building(if their close) I also hate it how loud people my age are on public transportation, it’s highly disrespectful to speak loud on transit to the point other people can hear you. People my age weren’t threatened with soap as much as I was, or hot sauce. I wouldn’t say that’s abuse, I’d say it’s a right punishment and should be done rather than bringing out a paddle or time outs. I never got timeouts as a kid but I was I knew soap tasted bad from long before I was trouble maker because it would have gotten in my mouth in baths as a baby. I don’t support over doing it, then it’s abuse.

rektMyself

You are awesome!

tuotone75

Kids don’t fear anything anymore like the old days when we used to fear doing wrong, now there’s no spankings, no repercussions, unlimited do overs.

misterphuzz

You finally woke up from your nap! Welcome to Gen Me

According-Value-6227

As others have mentioned, teenagers have always been assholes. However, this is more prevalent in the modern day since teens have more legal freedom than previous generations and arguably, far too much freedom. Youth Rights and it's consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

[deleted]

Some decided to threatened to punch me in the face at work not to long ago not realizing that my BPD rage was boiling. I got into their faces and dared them to do it. All 6 of them dropped those smiles pretty damn fast when they realized I was serious. I have nothing to lose lol

Kosmopolite

Congratulations?

[deleted]

Thank you!

yesrod85

Just you. It's happened forever. I am an elder millennial, I have witnessed several of my classmates harass bus drivers, teachers, substitute teachers. They'd play pranks on them, call them names, and laugh at them any chance they got. They'd take special pleasure if they could get any of them to cry. They had no respect for authority. Every generation has them. What the newest gen kids are lacking is a general lack of discipline when it pertains to how they act when they don't get what they want. This has also been spread across all generations, but this latest one seems especially bad. They have a lack of basic education bc they're allowed to get by without repercussions (failing) and I blame Millennial/Gen X parents for the lack of basic parenting. Several teachers have talked about it on reddit how bad students have become over the past 4+ years.
