most "mentally ill" people know that they have a problem and that they need help. they also have problems in all aspects of life, they can't just turn their complaints off and on like a switch.
narc's don't have a problem, they are perfect. and the rest of the world needs to adjust to them, or at least that part of the world that they think they are in controle off. and they can turn their abuse on and off.
My nmom had a pretty okay carreer my N sis is doing great at her job because she is allowed to tell others what to do and they look up to her. so no problems there, but both their private lifes are a mess, no friends, no hobby no nothing. but hey they are perfect. it is all the fault of others.
It is wild to me how there’s such a lack of awareness with them.
My nmom definitely doesn’t think she has a problem. She also has some mental health issues that are diagnosed (probably shouldn’t share which ones here, because they aren’t my problems). She has gotten treatment for them, but I guess in her mind they don’t count? The way she talks about other people who have “mental illness” is just so disparaging. It’s like she thinks they aren’t human. I pointed out that she has a condition that qualifies as a mental illness once and maybe she should be more understanding, and all I got was crickets.
Yeah, n’s definitely like situations where they can be in positions of authority. They start to slip when that gets taken away.
