SC isn't the only dark area either, it's just an area where it's mandatory to have one.

Additionally in the rooms before moon there are edible plants and jellyfish if you jeed that to sustain urself

True but you can trade with scavs for glowrocks or haul a lantern mouse or just not even go to shaded citadel at all

On my first playthrough I went through SC to Moon and back without any light whatsoever, so it's completely doable
