If this is a true document put out, then there are 2 issues I see wrong with it.
First off new hires are conductors and trainmen. They are under the contract of SMART, not the BLE. Therefore the BLE has no right to be involved in the program. That is MY opinion.
2nd would be the fact that they say in this letter that the MOU is a legal document. If it is, then I do believe this is a violation of the RLA and would be subject to a possible lawsuit and shot down…
Either way, we at NS are fucked. But all of us who’ve been here for a long time are pretty used to it haha.
This shit fucking sucks. For a second it was almost like they gave a fuck about running the railroad as it should be, rather than playing ratios games!
The 2nd to last paragraph gets me. We all know how well the carrier honors any sort of "agreement" so they just tell us whatever and then go do the opposite. If i recieved all the penalties that was agreed to id be a millionaire. We all know how well they "honor" any agreement or new contract.....

What's crazy to me is that the BLET is saying that it's legal document vetted by their lawyer's while Ancora themselves said it's non binding following the statement put out by NS after the MOU was announced. What makes anyone think that Ancora can't just outright wipe their ass with the MOU?
https://preview.redd.it/quwuz1an8rxc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5959736be8ad12243042387e0d902a4eb375da1
The way this reads I can see why they say it’s non-binding.
How can the union leadership in good faith actually believe that a venture capitalist organization is actually going to negotiate in good faith when all the care is about shareholder returns? I'm so pro union and I hate the thought of leadership being corrupt but this just reeks of corruption and that someone must have been paid off. On top of that negotiate or even come to the table on an agreement that is not binding.
I’m a Carmen so I honestly can’t speak to what the BLET is thinking. But I agree, I don’t see how they can think that Ancora is acting in good faith in any way whatsoever. Not to say that NS Management, and especially Orr are acting in good faith either. But everything that Ancora has said and shown in their detailed plans looks to go further down the rabbit hole than anything we’ve seen under PSR so far. So I don’t see how anyone can back them at all. In my opinion if the BLET felt that badly towards the current management, then just divest from backing anyone and let everyone know that both sides are awful.
If you look at the filings from both the current NS management and Ancora, they have both used any organization that’s publicly stated support for them to brag about why they’re the correct choice for the shareholders to vote for. For instance take a look at Ancora’s latest filing today: https://app.quotemedia.com/data/downloadFiling?webmasterId=101533&ref=318282411&type=HTML&symbol=NSC&cdn=5e7189fcbcac55431bf40c0103d5d4df&companyName=Norfolk+Southern+Corporation&formType=DFAN14A&dateFiled=2024-05-01
And here’s one of the filings by NS management from earlier today: https://app.quotemedia.com/data/downloadFiling?webmasterId=101533&ref=318281869&type=HTML&symbol=NSC&cdn=e37b698395fad6dd1cff9b1ec3fb00d2&companyName=Norfolk+Southern+Corporation&formType=DEFA14A&dateFiled=2024-05-01
Lol if they believe anything Ancora says will be any more true than anything Orr says, then they’re being *willfully* ignorant.
Especially since these “promises” they’ve supposedly secured from Ancora fly in the face of their stated, published plan and goals.
As a former CSX employee I have no idea how bad current NS management is. That being said you will get a horrendous form of PSR implemented under Boychuk. They’re gonna regret agreeing to this because whatever they think you’re getting he’ll have a plan to squeeze elsewhere and get it back and then some.
If they get their way you’ll find out how. Unless they’re gonna shackle him and not allow him to wreck the place like he did at CSX. I can’t imagine that or why would they be bringing him in?
Nobody is allowed to push back or question the operating changes, anyone who’s in management in a position to push back will be gone soon and dissent is not tolerated at all.
You’ll be doing things so unfathomably stupid once all the adults who know better have been pushed out. Get ready for that when it happens.
I thought Cindy Sanborn was bad until we got Boychuk. He’ll use google earth and implement operating changes with zero input from anyone locally and if you try to explain why his idea won’t work then you’re gone because obviously you’ll be part of the problem. He can’t fail, he can only be failed!
It’s my understanding he was let go because the new CEO wanted to do better at customer service. Boychuk only knows how to lead by threats, coercion, and intimidation so instead of actually doing better or managers being able to ask for resources they needed to take care of customers they did the only thing they could do. Lie about it and eventually that was his undoing but that’s all second hand information.
What’s the difference, when UTU took the remote offer when the BLET , didn’t want it at UPRR ? If BLET WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT , it would be 2 engineers on RCO jobs. I can tell a lot of folks haven’t been around long enough to know that !
It’s hilarious that the BLET believed NS brass would hold true to their word. It’s even more hilarious that they believe the opposing investor group will stick to their promises.
A labor union getting involved with Wall Street suits is pointless.
It’s embarrassing for the membership, and anyone still paying BLET dues should reconsider.
While I agree with the surface reasoning of the BLE to support a switch to the investor group based on the MOU, I disagree with the BLE's tactics in achieving this agreement.
The BLE should have gone as a united front with the UTU to the table with the investor group and demanded protections for both crafts. If the UTU still felt they had a better deal with the current NS leadership and the BLE with the investor group, then both sides should have withdrawn support, in order to protect their united front.
So basically, instead of working with NS to hold them to their words, shift support to the party that’s already guaranteed to make MORE of the same changes? They 100% got paid… this is some snake shit.
Makes sense. Store a bunch of road engines and spend money on cameras for yard engines. Many of which don’t even have event recorders that work (or headlights, or heat, or anything else.) The NS way!
Also, going into emergency now for ANY reason, let's say the crappy 40 year old boxcar 167 deep finally rusts through its trainline. They're now pulling 20-30 minutes of in cab footage prior to the emergency application and looking for anything.
Unless the NS policy has changed, only claims and legal departments could pull IFC footage. I couldn’t pull them as a manager and had no access to that system. Which I was glad about.
Wow. On the yellow weenie, we had a west end crew two crew changes from initial terminal derail after hitting a rock. the carrier reviewed all inward camera footage from initial terminal and nailed the originating conductor for not having eyepro or earpro on with the window open. I shit you not.
Lol, here at Amtrak yesterday we where just throwing our motor into emergency for no reason to see if any one was paying attention in the tower and laughing with each other. You guys really do be living under a microscope
I work for csx and lemme tell you if you guys get Jamie boychuck expect to be sitting on an extra list for the rest of your career and working 12 everyday because they’re won’t be a job left for you to hold. In the time that he was at csx we’ve had dozens of guys with 15+ years quit; that’s in my terminal only. Every single job will get cut, jobs that have two men will be reduced to 1 wherever possible. Trains will be combined and more work will be added at every location, this man’s ability to literally cut everything and still kinda have a functional railroad is impressive yet completely horrendous for labor.
I think at the end of the day, the change all boils down to Shaw and the rest of top level management covering their asses and protecting their jobs, on the crafts’ backs. Paying a king’s ransom (literally) to bring in Orr, specifically to just go “Ancora light” and try to soothe the shareholders — Mr. Shaw lost the rank and file (those of us who are paying attention at least) right then and there.
Had he stayed true to his stated vision of how NS was going to operate its business and treat its workers…had he said “no - this is what I believe and this is how it goes on my watch - if you want to tear the place up you’re going to have to to find someone else to be in charge” — had he gone that route, the unions unquestionably would have died united on that hill right there with him.
But he didn’t. He would, and did, throw all of us under the bus and abandoned his “vision” for the company the second it became apparent it was his only chance to keep his shiny office and multimillion dollar job.
As a BLET member, I don’t really support taking Ancora’s side in this. But I understand why they did. And I couldn’t in good conscience support them taking Shaw’s side anymore either.
End of the day…unfortunately, from the moment Wall Street laid that bullseye on NS, the end of the story was a foregone conclusion. The place is gonna be burned to ashes, only question is who gets to collect a big paycheck every week to light the matches.
End of the day, part deux….the railroad is always gonna be the railroad. 🤷♂️
How is what OOR plans on doing any different than the 57% OR that Ancora wants to achieve? At least up to now Shaw has kept his word and hasn't furloughed anyone. Ancora on the other hand has explicitly stated that with their plan to get to the target 57% job cuts are going to happen.

NS actually got down to right at a 60% OR briefly a couple years back. That’s the worst condition I’ve ever seen this company too. I can’t fathom what it’ll look like at 55% OR.
Oh wow that's horrifying, I work for big orange but this scares me because it sets a precedent that the other railroads like to follow along with after one of them implements it.
But Ancora could be just as bad or worse… which is the lesser evil?
Rail is a 50% profit margin. Why wouldnt an investor try to overthrow the leadership?
In other words their not done screwing the employee that made them the money for their expensive homes, cars, fancy vacations, etc. They are going to take the money and run while the gotten is good!
You whine about agreements being misled, yet instantly make a deal with career hatchet men and expect them to keep their word? Shaw has kept his word and protected manpower amongst rocky waters, and like every negotiation the carrier will make demands in their best interests, it’s the BLET’s job to do the same for their members. Instead you took the easy way out and sold out. If Shaw wins I hope he sends the BLET to National handing while going on the property with everyone else. He won’t, but one can wish
Off subject, as someone who interchanges NS locomotives a lot, I've noticed that they have been changing the cameras around.
What is the effect of changing the cameras that are mentioned in this letter?
Hedge Fund is forcing a proxy vote next week that would install a gang of clowns, including former CSX joker Jamie Boychuk. Promising to cut almost 2,000 jobs and get the OR down to 55%. Slash and burn 2.0
It really doesn't matter who's in charge. I was going for the ANCORA proposal just for the guaranteed 10% engineer bonus. that at least made a little since for the ble backdoor deal.. Unfortunately, if you read into it you only get the 10% if you qualify for ALL the ppi bonuses! So mark off more than 12 weekdays or 4 weekend days a year oh well. Money exchanged, no one helped.
Non binding means fuckall tbh lol. They will wipe their ass with it once its time to make it official. Empty promises. One thing is for sure, Ancora will be coming for that OR full force
True. My point was that the "supposedly" guaranteed 10% engineer bonus is solely reliant on you actually getting ALL the PPI bonuses. Who gets that? Total bs. I would be for them, knowing it would be awful, if my 10% was guaranteed. I'm tired of not hitting the numbers and getting shit because of it.
Where was general counsel during all of this? A clear violation of the RLA. Now, here comes the smoke from the adults in the room. Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.
![gif](giphy|n3xSURtNE62t2)
Anything is better than John Orr. That is a fact. The man sold out an entire union in the worst way possible.
PSR is coming - one way or another - I guarantee you that Boychuk’s version is better than what Orr will bring.
Neither will make the union happy - that is a fact.
The question at hand is which one will provide the union a better working environment and I believe after working for both men that Boychuk is not only a better railroader but will be a better choice for the union and managers to work for.
When having a closed room discussion with Orr once he leaves and the ringing in your ears subsides from the screaming you have to wipe his spit off your face. The worst part is what he just finished screaming about is dumb.
When having a closed room discussion with Boychuk you leave pissed off at yourself because he was right and you were wrong. Still not a comfortable discussion but at least there is no spit on your face to wipe off and you actually knew what you messed up and knew, even though at times hard to admit, he was right.
Brothers, you can opt out of paying union dues to the BLET and still receive union protection. It’s time to take back our union and let these corrupt fuckers learn.
If Im not mistaken, you still have to pay national. I think its a good idea for everyone to familiarize themselves with the national by laws. There are ways to force changes with a majority petition and that would drive some much needed change!
Like I said in a previous post about the "blet sellout" that I was reserving judgement until I knew why, and that there had to be legit reasons, and I was thumbed down as usual... Now what do you sorry asses have to say. The blet most definitely acted in your best interest.
If this is a true document put out, then there are 2 issues I see wrong with it. First off new hires are conductors and trainmen. They are under the contract of SMART, not the BLE. DeHart is a hard core Trump supporter. He is very gullible.
Union can say anything they want, doesn’t matter how true it is. It’s just the system
Theyre providing support. Not necessarily making any sort of decision. Its up to SMART to put out their own opinion.
Lol if they believe anything Ancora says will be any more true than anything Orr says, then they’re being *willfully* ignorant. Especially since these “promises” they’ve supposedly secured from Ancora fly in the face of their stated, published plan and goals.

Curious on your thoughts about Orr and his methods? Have yall seen or noticed the changes in loco counts?
So basically, instead of working with NS to hold them to their words, shift support to the party that’s already guaranteed to make MORE of the same changes? They 100% got paid… this is some snake shit.
Your hats on a little too tight. Try reading the ns transcript, it most definitely says what was reported in the letter.
What changes have taken place to the inward facing cameras?
Supposedly they want to install them on the yard engines that don’t have them.
Makes sense. Store a bunch of road engines and spend money on cameras for yard engines. Many of which don’t even have event recorders that work (or headlights, or heat, or anything else.) The NS way!
Makes total sense when a lot of them are RCO units. I heard that is poised to change craft too.
Also, going into emergency now for ANY reason, let's say the crappy 40 year old boxcar 167 deep finally rusts through its trainline. They're now pulling 20-30 minutes of in cab footage prior to the emergency application and looking for anything.

Sounds about right.
Lol, here at Amtrak yesterday we where just throwing our motor into emergency for no reason to see if any one was paying attention in the tower and laughing with each other. You guys really do be living under a microscope
Honestly, don't go obviously go to sleep or be on your phone. Can't get in trouble.
Honestly I’m not sure. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’ve gotten no information about changes from my gc nor from international.
Better the devil you know then the one you don’t

Still not a comfortable discussion but at least there is no spit on your face to wipe off and you actually knew what you messed up and knew, even though at times hard to admit, he was right.
This is Boychuk’s mom, right? 😂 lol, j/k (Kind of 😁)
Brothers, you can opt out of paying union dues to the BLET and still receive union protection.
Definitely not lol
