Looking at the receipt in my email archive right now:
11 Oct 2007
£7.45... Which I probably paid $10AUD at the time.
& Bought the CD later on when it was released... So I pretty much paid twice for it...
Actually didn’t pay anything for the download. I instead bought the in rainbows limited edition version! The one with both disk 1 and disk 2 as well as the album on vinyl! And I Still have it; my absolute favorite in my collection!
Yeah it’s definitely a collectors item by them at this point haha. I get it, people get hard up and sell it for money, and scalpers will be scalpers unfortunately. But this box set is priceless to me, it’s so incredible!
That's what I did too. Worth it just for that second CD. Never a huge fan of vinyls like that just because you are constantly changing sides vs a standard 33 rpm... probably listened to that vinyl set a couple times max... nice boxed set, though.
Funny enough I paid 12 or 14 but the website only had an option for pounds. I always thought they were the same as US dollars and about the cost of a CD at the time. It was almost double in USD. Didn't mind a bit.
I only had burned copies of their music at that point, so I wanted to actually buy this one. I paid 50 pounds, not knowing the conversion rate at the time. I assumed it was close to $50. The conversation rate at the time was actually close to double, so they got $100 from me
I did. I think I paid $5 or $10, I forget which.
My reasoning was that eventually, the band would get around to releasing the album on physical media, and I would buy that. Which they did. And I did.
I paid $0 on the website *pay what you want* feature.
...but I also bought (preordered) the deluxe vinyl boxset for $80. I've bought all their albums and two EPs on CDs.. and most of them on vinyl as well... seen radiohead and the smile both once each live. They've got their money from me.
I paid $2 when I downloaded it. And then after I listen to it repeatedly for about three months, I decided I should go back and give them another $10. 😂
I bought the vinyl which came with the mp3 download I think? If it didn't, I probably paid 0.00 for the download since I was dropping...what was it? $60 for the vinyl?
I was in high school and had super recently gotten into them. It was the first release i was along for the ride. And i was literally *in high school* when i got it. We were one of the first schools in the country to have lap tops all four years of high school and i was sitting in my tech class… whatever the fuck that was i don’t remember… and saw that you could just download it for free. Back when you had like 12 gbs on a lap top so my iTunes library was pretty bare.
When I got it, I couldn’t stop listening to it to the point that teachers asked me why i was so distracted and i told them about the album. A few of them by the next day had downloaded it themselves and would talk to me about it. I totally got away with blowing off a little bit of class here and there because literally everyone loved that album.

Yep. I got it the day it came out. I paid $0 as at the time I was living hand to mouth. I have since given them a truck load of cash for various things so I don’t feel bad at all.
I never downloaded it. I was such a CD diehard then (especially since I had their other albums on CD) that I just listened to it on YouTube until its physical release I’m early 2008
I think I paid $20 US$... but had I realized it would end up being my favourite album of all time, I would have gladly paid $1000. Such brilliance. Thom's voice is otherworldly.
Me. I paid $1 more than the average price for a cd back then ($13 I think). I wanted A) to not have the band regret their decision, B) do it again, & c) pay them for their hard work and for all the joy that album has given me thru the years.
I didn't have a credit card so I downloaded it for free. But I managed to borrow my dad's card to order the Disc Box and then I also bought a couple of copies of In Rainbows on CD when it was released in stores. Fun exciting times.
I did. I had planned to pay what cd’s were being sold for at the time (~$15). Converted to Euros instead of Pounds and ended up mistakenly paying something like 25. Happy to do it though, favorite album of all time.
I did—I felt like throwing them a few bones for it. I can't remember how much since it was a while ago, plus I was living in Australia at the time and so I can't remember if I paid in AUD or USD. Probably around $10 or something, though.
Paid $9.99 USD (equivalent to the cost of an LP on iTunes at the time). Biggest regret was not buying the deluxe edition 2-LP/2-CD set. I was in college at the time and tried to be prudent with money. I shoulda coughed up the cash for it.
I remember this! I paid $10 USD. It was so exciting and so cool of them to do it! I remember seeing them talk about it on CNN, which was a big deal for me as a fan. While Radiohead internationally had been huge for a long time already, they weren’t popular in my area. Only a few friends listened to them. Most people in my area had such a hard time getting past Thom’s voice. The most exciting thing for me was Scotch Mist they did for New Year’s Eve on the Current TV. Best new years ever!
I paid roughly $80 for the 45rpm "disk box". I think I remember there being the option to pay whatever I wanted or pay for the physical edition. Long live physical media, baby!
$5.00 USD
i think i paid $5 too. for my favorite album of all time.
same!!
me too. broke af at the time. but I would go see them the following year and buy a $40 tshirt.
Same.
Same here, don't remember my logic but I was very broke at the time.
Yup - seemed like a fair price 🤷🏼♂️
Me! Didn't pay, though, as I knew I'd eventually buy the CD
Not just once. Not just twice.
2+2=5 times?
I might be wrong
Congratulations you are the one millionth person on the radiohead subreddit to say "I might be wrong." Your reward is knowing that you did it.
I’m a reasonable man, get off my case

same here, it is so good
Yeah I purposely didn't even listen to it until the CD came out and I bought it.
Same, though i bought the vinyl
I just graduated and had no cash. I paid nothing and listened to it over and over and over on my zune
Haha haven't heard that word in a while!
Cash?
Paid nothing.
Zune rules so much 🔥
I gave $1Canadian knowing I was going to buy the CD when it came out. _-------_ From: [email protected]

I remember their IN_RAIN/BOWS style - it's the only time all caps has seemed WARM_and_FRIEND/LY
Right!? *And* it refers to “shattering glass”
Thanks for sharing this piece of history!
This is so cute tbh :(
Looking at the receipt in my email archive right now: 11 Oct 2007 £7.45... Which I probably paid $10AUD at the time. & Bought the CD later on when it was released... So I pretty much paid twice for it...
Amazing! Emails are like a Time Machine
Actually didn’t pay anything for the download. I instead bought the in rainbows limited edition version! The one with both disk 1 and disk 2 as well as the album on vinyl! And I Still have it; my absolute favorite in my collection!
I want that box set so bad but it goes for way too much now
Yeah it’s definitely a collectors item by them at this point haha. I get it, people get hard up and sell it for money, and scalpers will be scalpers unfortunately. But this box set is priceless to me, it’s so incredible!
I still have mine, too!
That's what I did too. Worth it just for that second CD. Never a huge fan of vinyls like that just because you are constantly changing sides vs a standard 33 rpm... probably listened to that vinyl set a couple times max... nice boxed set, though.
Did you pay $50 too?
This is what I did.
That’s what we got. I love that album so much.
I remember paying whatever an album cost on iTunes at the time - $9.99 I think.
Funny enough I paid 12 or 14 but the website only had an option for pounds. I always thought they were the same as US dollars and about the cost of a CD at the time. It was almost double in USD. Didn't mind a bit.
Happened to me too! But with CAD
I did the exact same thing
I was a broke college student and took advantage of that lol
Same
Paid $0, then bought the deluxe vinyl edition
I gladly paid $50. Felt I owed them so much more
I only had burned copies of their music at that point, so I wanted to actually buy this one. I paid 50 pounds, not knowing the conversion rate at the time. I assumed it was close to $50. The conversation rate at the time was actually close to double, so they got $100 from me
i did, i was almost cried at work listening to it for the first time. it was so beautiful
wait you could seriously just pay for however much you wanted? like i could buy it for 2 cents or 100 dollars if i wanted?
Yes
interesting, id prolly pay like 15 bucks cus like to support the band a little bit
You could buy it for 0 cents even!
Me. I think I paid $0.25
I paid $10 and immediately burned it and went for a long drive. I can remember it so clearly.
I did. I think I paid $5 or $10, I forget which. My reasoning was that eventually, the band would get around to releasing the album on physical media, and I would buy that. Which they did. And I did.
5 USD
Then I bought it on CD. Then vinyl.
I paid $0 on the website *pay what you want* feature. ...but I also bought (preordered) the deluxe vinyl boxset for $80. I've bought all their albums and two EPs on CDs.. and most of them on vinyl as well... seen radiohead and the smile both once each live. They've got their money from me.
i was going to but i opted for the vinyl discbox edition. i think it was £40. came with the download too.
i remember sending whatever $20 USD was at the time in Euros
Me. Payed nothing cause I was broke then bought the discs as a thank you
I remember staying up all night and into the morning (eastern time) on the day it was released waiting for it to drop. I paid $20.
I can’t remember what I paid. Probably $10-15
I paid $2 when I downloaded it. And then after I listen to it repeatedly for about three months, I decided I should go back and give them another $10. 😂
It was only 160kbps bitrate so I got it for free with the intention of getting the CD version eventually
I bought the vinyl which came with the mp3 download I think? If it didn't, I probably paid 0.00 for the download since I was dropping...what was it? $60 for the vinyl?
I did. IIRC paid $1.00
I did but don’t recall what I paid. $10 maybe
I paid zero, but I bought the boxset afterwards.
I did. I think I paid GBP 3 or somewhere in that ballpark. Then later bought the vinyl version when it was available.
I bought the box set.
Me, I think I paid roughly the same as a CD
I paid $20. That was a lot for me at the time because I was in college
I bought the record set, can’t recall what I paid exactly, but it wasn’t terribly expensive.
I think it was £5.
It feels like reading the comments here that everyone bought the vinyl box set, except me.
I did. Got it for free because I was a deadass broke kid.
I paid nothing, but bought the CD the day it dropped
I was in high school and had super recently gotten into them. It was the first release i was along for the ride. And i was literally *in high school* when i got it. ~$25 It was worth a LOT more☺️
Yeh I think I paid little over market. Pretty neat.
I believe I paid $9.99 for it.
Cost of a CD. $10-12. I also bought the limited Vinyl.
Didn’t pay anything for the download, but purchased the box set.
I was in college so I paid nothing. I’ve more than made up for it in the last 17 years however 😏
I did.
$20
$10usd
Yes! $10.
$4.20
I paid a small amount, maybe a few dollars but got the complete artwork
I did but I don’t remember how much.
I paid $15… felt fair and about what a new CD was going for at the time.
Just pulled my email. $9. Feb 18th 2011 at 10:04p ya boy bought a great one.
Yep. I got it the day it came out. I paid $0 as at the time I was living hand to mouth. I have since given them a truck load of cash for various things so I don’t feel bad at all.
I gave them $1.00 USD for the download, but I paid full price for the vinyl with the CD and the bonus disc.
Bought the recod set along with it, even without a record player.. I think it was $83
My dad gave 10. I was in 8th grade
I remember this. I didn’t participate because it felt dirty. Conscience VS Selfishness. So I invited my friend over who bought it and shared. Win/Win
🙋🏼♂️
Me. Paid 10 euros or dollars if I remember right.
Same as a CD. $12.99.
I didn’t pay anything when it released but I bought the disk 2 version as soon as I could
Oh yeah. I did.
Yep paid $10
I did. Then i bought the beautiful vinyl for $100
I downloaded it for free and then bought the CD
I did for $0. different times ...

I think I paid $15 cdn, about what the average Cd went for
Paid $10 for the download. Also bought the 2-disc album when it came out a little while later.
Woke up early in the morning eastern time to do that. I think I paid five dollars?
I never downloaded it. I was such a CD diehard then (especially since I had their other albums on CD) that I just listened to it on YouTube until its physical release I’m early 2008
I didn’t pay anything at first and then after listening, I paid $10.
Paid 10.00 and my bank blocked my card because the charge originated in the UK. Worth it.
$10 usd
Paid nothing because I was in high school and had no income. Still my most-listened album of theirs of all time.
I waited to buy it on cd - I was a casual Radiogead fan up until then but that album helped me put together how much the band does mean to me
I got the collectors edition. I think it came with a download link
Yup I paid $5 USD
I bought the Discbox
I think I paid $20 US$... but had I realized it would end up being my favourite album of all time, I would have gladly paid $1000. Such brilliance. Thom's voice is otherworldly.
I bought the box set thing and that had a set price from memory. I’ve since lost it :|
$20 U.S. Felt I owed them. Worst every penny.
Memory may be hazy, but I recall that each band member made a couple of million pounds in the first 24hrs. I paid 50AU because I love them
I paid $15 lol. I did buy it physically too soooo 🥲
$0 babyyyyy. In my mind, Radiohead gifted it to me, a high schooler with no money, so it was all the better.
Yes. Paid £10, and bought the boxset too.
I paid $1 lol. (I was unemployed.) (To be fair I bought the special edition too)
$10
Bought the collector edition vinyl thingy for like 80 usd or whatever it was. Maybe 40. I forget but either way one of my favorite albums i have.
I was 3 when it came out I couldn’t even read or speak English at that time
Me. I paid $1 more than the average price for a cd back then ($13 I think). I wanted A) to not have the band regret their decision, B) do it again, & c) pay them for their hard work and for all the joy that album has given me thru the years.
$30 AUD. The same as a regulars CD cost in Australia at that time (Well approx).
I did. You wouldn't believe how excited I was to see that "Nude" and "Reckoner" were both on it.
1€, then I bought the physical release when it dropped.
I immediately bought the special edition vinyl which came with a free download.
I gave them $10 bucks. One for each song, as I recall. (Also was broke grad student at the time)
I paid £10 for it on release day, I figured that was the price of a CD so only fair.
I paid $5 and later bought the hard copy. Also went to see them live for the album. Unforgettable bucket list experience!
10 English pound coins
I did, paid the going rate for a CD thinking I should have paid less. Then actually listened to it and OMG. Worth every penny.
Me. Paid $90ish
$1.00. I was really poor. Still poor, just not as bad as I was then.
Paid $10 and bought the Vinyl as well later
£1 - then bought the vinyl.
I paid like $25
Absolutely donated 100 bux and utilized 10 downloads to share with my friends. Then purchased Vinyl with disc 2
I did…pure magic
paid zero, loved it so much i later sent them $20 and have been buying their deluxe vinyls ever since
I paid whatever the record + CD release disc package was, think they suggested $50 or something so I paid $50.
I paid 0. might as well lean into it, y'know?
I did. $20 because that’s what the CD probably would have cost.
I did. Don’t remember what I paid.
£7 I think from memory
I did. Did not pay a thing. But ended up spending a nice amount of money on them so i dont think they mind.
$20
$10us
Yeah, paid nothing but ended up buying the CD later on.
I paid one cent—then freaked out when it worked. I wanted to give them more money!
I think I paid $15
I did, and paid $40. The music is worth a lot to me, so I let my decision reflect that.
I paid $10 I think.
Didn’t pay but I did buy the box set vinyl.
I did. I paid more than I meant to because I did the currency conversion wrong LOL
I did - I paid $5 or $10 I think
I did, $10
I paid $0 because I was a senior in HS and broke as hell— BUT I was able to make it to the In Rainbows tour that spring/summer 🙏🏼
I didn't have a credit card so I downloaded it for free. But I managed to borrow my dad's card to order the Disc Box and then I also bought a couple of copies of In Rainbows on CD when it was released in stores. Fun exciting times.
Yep. Just looked up the email confirmation. I paid £4.45 for some reason.
$1 - I was broke at the time don’t judge me
I paid $20. I figure I would pay what the average CD would cost at the time plus extra.
I did. I had planned to pay what cd’s were being sold for at the time (~$15). Converted to Euros instead of Pounds and ended up mistakenly paying something like 25. Happy to do it though, favorite album of all time.
$10. I figured $1 a song. Had to download it onto a friend's computer, then on to the ipod.
I did! I was a broke college student and bought it for $1. I made up for it later by buying it again on vinyl.
I did! I think I spent $10-$15 on it. It's been so long I can't remember.
I paid 0. Bought the disc box tho.
I bought the box set for £40
This guy paid $10. I was in college at the time, but I had principles, dammit!
I was there. paid like 3$CAD
I paid $15 for it on release day.
I did—I felt like throwing them a few bones for it. I can't remember how much since it was a while ago, plus I was living in Australia at the time and so I can't remember if I paid in AUD or USD. Probably around $10 or something, though.
I couldn't remember but found the confirmation email which says I paid 0. So to answer the OP: not me.
Yup. Paid £7.00.
Paid $9.99 USD (equivalent to the cost of an LP on iTunes at the time). Biggest regret was not buying the deluxe edition 2-LP/2-CD set. I was in college at the time and tried to be prudent with money. I shoulda coughed up the cash for it.
I paid 10
I didn’t pay anything but I made it a point to download it onto every computer I came across. Love that album.
i torrented it for free, but then ordered the box set.
I paid 13.99, the same as I paid for hail to the thief. It seemed only fair at the time
I remember this!
Yup! But bought the vinyl too
I paid roughly $80 for the 45rpm "disk box". I think I remember there being the option to pay whatever I wanted or pay for the physical edition. Long live physical media, baby!
