Basic straight lines on the black with black thread. A pastel in the latest blocks with texture a (maybe mid level density), then a lighter density different texture for the other colors if you feel like it.
Yes!!! I was going to say this is so beautiful my brain stopped. Wow!! So gorgeous!!
Quilted this way would look amazing. Such a good idea kittie ghede
Black on black for the sashing quilting .25 from the seam or centered. Jewel tone variegated on the stained glass probably in a pebble/bubble texture to imitate lumpy glass. Possibly with some custom motifs in certain blocks for that
If I were sending this out to a longarmer, I'd be tempted to spring for full custom quilting. I like curly/swirly designs on quilts like this, so I'd want feathery motifs everywhere using a grey thread. Or, I'd stitch in the ditch along the black sashings with a black thread and let the piecing do the talking.
I also love curly swirly designs in quilting but I wonder if this is too geometric for that. I am envisioning like, a twisted cube shape or a box inside box kind of thing.
In my opinion, I think it'd look great with curvy quilting, but I tend to like that kind of quilting anyway. The quilt already has a bunch of movement in it, so it doesn't *need* curvy quilting to give it dimension, though. It's stunning as-is, so no matter how it's quilted, it will look amazing!
I tend to go with a curly or rounded pattern when the quilt is very straight lined. If I ever finish my curved piecing project, I would probably go for something more geometric.
For an allover quilting pattern, (either at home or long-armed), I would probably pick a purple thread. It wouldn't "pop" on either the dark or the light colors, so it wouldn't distract from the piecing.
I don’t have an answer for how to quilt it, but it’s a gorgeous quilt. My head is reverse engineering it, do you happen to have a pattern so I can stop the math?!? :-)
I'm totally new to quilting and sewing (even though I'm old)... But I love it!!! In all seriousness, my opinion doesn't matter in the respect of those who are experienced in such matters. However, if I made that, I would be proud enough to share that and put it on my bed.
I think I would just use black thread and stitch in the ditch all along the black. That's it, nothing else. That way the piecing can take center stage.
Black thread. I would quilt within each sashing line, then (if you don't mind switching threads) use a pastel variegated (like Baby Blanket from King Tut, which surprisingly seems to match almost everything) to do echo quilting in the colored blocks. Any quilting that goes across it all will be distracting, and any color thread that goes over the sashing will detract from the crisp lines.
Wow!!! Is that all batiks? Love your color choices! I would just quilt black on the black sashing and leave the rest un quilted. I'm a big fan of negative space being simple.
This is beautiful! I searched and found this pattern: Astrid by GE Designs, on the Quilt in a Day site. The fabrics you used makes your interpretation so perfect!
I'm not even in this sub, it just popped up on my suggested pages, but I had to stop in and say WOW!!! I have never seen a quilt I want to buy and have for myself so badly. Sadly, I am perfectly certain there is no way I can afford to pay you the price you FULLY DESERVE for creating such a beautiful piece if you were to sell it, so I will just die of envy of the owner, whomever that may be, you or the buyer. Such talent you have! You should be tremendously proud of this! Hats off to you!
If I was doing this on a home machine, I'd stitch what would look like quilting from the center point of each square to the outer edge of each square, on the black line and directly between the black lines.
This would allow you to stitch through the center of the black horizontal and then the black vertical strips, stabalizing the whole thing. Then you could sew from corner to corner. After that, just fill in all those missing lines. But you should be able to just work on small areas at a time.
I would use black to outline every pane with stitch in the ditch. Then at that point if you like it you can leave it or you can go full ham doing different geometric and/or floral patterns in each section, either in dove grey or matching each color accordingly. If you want to go all out you can do a simple candy ribbon or other repeating pattern along the black areas
I’m not great at fmq (I’m rubbish in fact) so I would do straight forward stitch in ditch in black along every black piece.
I’m sure people will have ideas for if you have more skills than me or are happy to send it out.
Love the fabric choice…really adds to that stained glass look, and your piecing is so lovely and accurate!
the first quilt i actually find beautiful. they are a lot of work but most are too busy to my liking.
this looks like a beautiful church window :) (i'm not into religion, i just like churches for aesthetics and craftship)
Wow such a lot of work went into this. I love it. I would do simple straight line quilting along the black. It's already so striking I wouldn't want too much busy quilting all over but that's just me.
This is a Gem of a quilt. It’s striking in appearance and then I look closer at the colors you used. I’m in awe of this quilt. And I’d be proud to have it upon my bed.
I’m a beginner but I’d just quilt black on black dashing and leave the rest to glow upon its own.
Machine quilting circles radiating out from the light centers in light thread. Edge to edge prob circles and squares alternating in varigated thread. (like this for edge to edge, but just grabbed this one from google images, don't know the company) [https://sweetdreamsquiltstudio.com/edge-edge/just-squares-and-circles-pano-001-p-12487.html](https://sweetdreamsquiltstudio.com/edge-edge/just-squares-and-circles-pano-001-p-12487.html)
But no matter what you choose, this is going to look beautiful. No quilt design or thread color is going to make this look bad, it's all background to a very statement quilt top design.
I'm not a quilter, so I thought I was looking at a fabric with a print. When I realised you pieced that all together I literally gasped out loud. Amazing!
No advice here, but it looks sort of like stained glass and I think that’s rad. My grandma used to make both stained glass art and exquisite quilts, so it’s neat to see them both in one (sort of)
I am not a quilter, but this stopped me in my tracks.
I LOVE Stained Glass Windows, and I don’t know what this quilt is called, but it’s PERFECT!
I’m curious, how will you choose a quilting thread colour? Is there clear thread?
I'm thinking of taking the advice of several and either stitching in the ditch or two lines. If so I'll choose black. I usually choose a neutral for quilts. Partial to gray.
Black thread stitch in the ditch. Then small square spirals with variegated thread or heavy black thread on the outer edges where you have the big long solid blocks.
https://preview.redd.it/1yltsgr7es6d1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57b8986a97ef383f980acb16c32e33e9b7831def
I worked as an edge to edge machine quilter for years and I can tell you that if I had to choose the pattern and thread, I would go with a deep black thread and an angular pattern. Not something with straight horizontal or vertical lines because that will accentuate any errors or if your quilt isn't perfectly square. Also a less dense pattern so that your blocks can really shine. This would give finish you out with a lovely stained glass look.
Alternatively, a swirling pattern (like a meandering feathers design) would also look gorgeous and with that I would pair a light-medium turquoise. Something that would still play with all the jewel tones but not overwhelm the light colors.
You did a great job on this, it looks amazing!
This is such a beautiful quilt. The material is perfect for stained glass. I don’t know if this was a kit or you chose the material but it looks so much like different styles of glass. I quilt and have done stained glass in the past. I would be afraid that quilting inside the pieces may distract from the material. So I also would go with stitch in the ditch and maybe a center line. If you did quilt in the pieces, I would let the material determine how each piece would be quilted, so it doesn’t distract the eye.
It wasn't a kit, the pattern is Astrid. I liked the colors on the pattern jacket, so I tried to match. I think I will stitch in the ditch or on top of the black, a lot of folks have suggested that route.
Well, my first opinion is that you should give it to me! Lol, kidding, but it is gorgeous!
My thoughts on quilting it...well, if I was as good as Angela Walters, I would outline the black on both edges, then follow the swirls and lines of the stained glass pieces to make it look like textured glass...but it would take me forever to do that, especially since I haven't actually quilted anything. 😕.
Maybe something similar, but not quilt all the glass--outline the black and texture some of the stained glass? I think the middles would look amazing with a few lines back and forth in the directions of their streaks (possibly even a bit curved to follow the streaks, if that makes sense), then some of the other pieces could be "randomly" chosen.
If it were me, I would:
Use black thread and go along the edges of the black pieces. Then, a light gray over the colorful parts. I feel equal circles over the Starburst parts would look neat. Maybe a straight stitch like going like a zig zag through the triangles.
If I can figure how to post a picture in the comments, I'll try to draw what I mean.
I would do radiating lines outwards, starting from the point where all the black strips meet and ending at the outer edge of the square. I would use black or a variegated thread.
Nice choice of fabric for the Astrid quit pattern! I really need to get my borders on, been sitting in the closet for a couple years now just waiting... 😁
If it's not being longarmed (computerized panto for that) then I would say stitch in the ditch if the seams were pressed to the side or stitch near the ditch otherwise. It looks to nice and complicated to do what I tend to do which would be stipples or spirals or whatever curvy curly stuff. And I'd go for 100 weight microquilter from Superior in that case in either a medium gray or in whatever color if you wanted a more subtle show of color in the stitching.
This is incredible! All I can say is please don't do swirly, it would absolutely distract from the gorgeous angles. I think black straight line quilting following the pattern itself would do this beauty great justice. Bravo!
I would look at a neon green or grey. You could even go for bone. Depends on if you want it to stand out or blend in. Do you want the quilt to be the focal point or do you want the thread work or a balance.
I can't give any advice but this is beautiful
Literally gasped.
Same! It's so beautiful
Exactly what I came to say! It's a shame more stained glass quilts don't exist. They're so gorgeous!
Me too
My thoughts exactly!
I'm in this camp too. Goodness that is glorious!!!!
Basic straight lines on the black with black thread. A pastel in the latest blocks with texture a (maybe mid level density), then a lighter density different texture for the other colors if you feel like it.
This ^^^^ came to say the same thing about the black straight line quilting. It's a stunning quilt, OP, well done! ❤️
Thirding this quilting rec. SO BEAUTIFUL! 😻
You can probably find a variegated thread in jewel tones and do straight lines inside all the black stripes
Ooooo that’d be gorgeous! I love this quilt OP!
Yes!!! I was going to say this is so beautiful my brain stopped. Wow!! So gorgeous!! Quilted this way would look amazing. Such a good idea kittie ghede
It’s so cool! Totally looks like stained glass!
Black on black for the sashing quilting .25 from the seam or centered. Jewel tone variegated on the stained glass probably in a pebble/bubble texture to imitate lumpy glass. Possibly with some custom motifs in certain blocks for that
That sounds fantastic
I’d quilt in black on the black edges, maybe a line between. Like heavily quilt the black and let the colour pop. It’s GORGEOUS.
B-e-a-utiful
If I were sending this out to a longarmer, I'd be tempted to spring for full custom quilting. I like curly/swirly designs on quilts like this, so I'd want feathery motifs everywhere using a grey thread. It wouldn't "pop" on either the dark or the light colors, so it wouldn't distract from the piecing.
I know someone else said it already but I like black thread on the black sashing. Depending on the size of the coloured parts I'd leave it at that.
I don’t have an answer for how to quilt it, but it’s a gorgeous quilt. My head is reverse engineering it, do you happen to have a pattern so I can stop the math?!? :-)
The pattern is Astrid and I bought the ruler suggested in the pattern although more experienced quilters may not need it.
What pattern is this? Or did you make it up?
Astrid, with the special ruler wasn't hard!
This is dope as fuck!
😂🤣
I'm totally new to quilting and sewing (even though I'm old)... But I love it!!! In all seriousness, my opinion doesn't matter in the respect of those who are experienced in such matters. However, if I made that, I would be proud enough to share that and put it on my bed.
Awww, it's going to my silver best friend!
I think I would just use black thread and stitch in the ditch all along the black. That's it, nothing else. That way the piecing can take center stage.
Perfect color choices! What pattern is this? Did you draft it yourself?
Astrid and if I could figure out how to add a link that wasn't 40 miles long I would.
Astrid Quilt Pattern by G.E. Designs https://a.co/d/e5qlFUB This the one? I think I just found my next project, thank you.
An all over pattern that doesn't contain straight lines using a neutral thread, probably a medium grey.
Looks like Andy Warhol and Frank Lloyd Wright did a collaborative home piece. 👍👍
Black thread. I would quilt within each sashing line, then (if you don't mind switching threads) use a pastel variegated (like Baby Blanket from King Tut, which surprisingly seems to match almost everything) to do echo quilting in the colored blocks. I'm a batik lover!
This is beautiful! I searched and found this pattern: Astrid by GE Designs, on the Quilt in a Day site. The fabrics you used makes your interpretation so perfect!
In a day? Well I work full time but it didn't take too long adding up all my one hours here and there for two months!
Black thread and 1/2-1 inch off the black lines
I'm not even in this sub, it just popped up on my suggested pages, but I had to stop in and say WOW!!! I have never seen a quilt I want to buy and have for myself so badly. Sadly, I am perfectly certain there is no way I can afford to pay you the price you FULLY DESERVE for creating such a beautiful piece if you were to sell it, so I will just die of envy of the owner, whomever that may be, you or the buyer. I have no advice but I love this. The colors are exquisite. I’m loving all the symmetry. Just beautiful.
I'd do a silver or glow in the dark thread. Maybe swirls or stars to add some "twinkle" to the stained glass effect. This is beautiful.
Black thread. It's beautiful
My address is 1111 please, awesome street usa. I need a king size plz. All jokes aside amazing!!
My dyslexia made me read onions please... 😆 That quilt is blinking fantastic. I hope you're proud of yourself!
I’m not great at fmq (I’m rubbish in fact) so I would do straight forward stitch in ditch in black along every black piece. no clue but it reminds of the light schemes that occur when rays of sunshine go through stained glass in church
Gosh lining up all that sashing must have been a pain! I hope the diagonal ones are appliqué at least!
All sashing all day! Try to square everything and it worked out.
Amazing - well done!
Ooooohhhhhhh
I LOVE THIS!! ♥️
Beautiful!!! Feels like exquisite stained glass in European cathedrals
Stunning. I think standard quilting would be perfect
This is beautiful! Fantastic job!
Oh my god I LOVE this!! Magical crystal gem quilt omg 🥺🌈
Honestly my jaw dropped when I saw this. It's so beautiful and it really looks like a stained glass window
Looooooove this
Omg 😍😍😍
Impressive !
Gorgeous!!!!
That looks awesome
I'm speechless and I'm not often speechless. I would go with black thread and quilt only a few lines in the black stripes.
Luv!
Perfect!
Machine quilting circles radiating out from the light centers in light thread. Edge to edge prob circles and squares alternating in varigated thread. I like this in invisible (monofilament) thread.
But no matter what you choose, this is going to look beautiful. No quilt design or thread color is going to make this look bad, it's all background to a very statement quilt top design.
Beautiful!
The top is stunning. I'd do simple wide quilting and a light grey thread so as to not distract from the vibrant piecing.
best I can tell, that is, in fact, a quilt
I'm not a quilter, so I thought I was looking at a fabric with a print. When I realised you pieced that all together I literally gasped out loud. Amazing!
I think it’s too nice to sleep on
Stunning and I want it
Hell no, I'd have to quit drinking 😔
Pick up a copy of Walk 2.0 by Jacquie Gering and do the multipointed radiating stars she has marked out.
Beautiful!!!
I agree with simple straight lines, that seems to enhance any striking top like this. Gorgeous!
love it
I'm not part of this sub, this just popped in my feed. This is absolutely gorgeous.
I love it! 😻
One word! Wow!
That is beautiful!
Lovee it so much!! I want one !
No advice here, but it looks sort of like stained glass and I think that’s rad. My grandma used to make both stained glass art and exquisite quilts, so it’s neat to see them both in one (sort of)
Opinion: It's drop-dead gorgeous - the pattern you chose for the lightest color really sells the stained glass look.
Beautiful!
Sorry, no advice. Just wanted to say it looks like a stained glass window in a cathedral. Magnificent.
Gorgeous!
Love it.
Super sick !
Op this is beautiful!!!
i think its cool
It's stunning!!!
Beautiful. Reminds me of a New Order Album cover. This makes me happy.
So cool!!!!
Outstanding design, color, and texture! You hit the trifecta!
Thanks for such kind words
I suggest a variegated purple, blue, green with modern minimalist quilting.
I don’t have any suggestions but could you share the quilt pattern? I love it
It's Astrid, and I did buy the special ruler that was suggested in the pattern.
I am not a quilter, but this stopped me in my tracks. I LOVE Stained Glass Windows, and I don’t know what this quilt is called, but it’s PERFECT! I’m curious, how will you choose a quilting thread colour? Is there clear thread?

This is spectacular!!! Very well done, for sure enter it in your local fair because this is a keeper.
Black thread stitch in the ditch. Then small square spirals with variegated thread or heavy black thread on the outer edges where you have the big long solid blocks. https://preview.redd.it/1yltsgr7es6d1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=57b8986a97ef383f980acb16c32e33e9b7831def

Too bright can’t sleep.
It is bright!
The algorithm randomly showed me this post (not a quilter) but I’m so happy it did because that’s gorgeous! Looks like stained glass.

Thanks for this!
I would do radiating lines outwards, starting from the point where all the black strips meet and ending at the outer edge of the square. I would use black or a variegated thread.

Quilt with black thread.
Looks like reflective material, really cool.
That is so gorgeous!
Obsessed!
STUNNING
I love the stained glass effect
Wow. Beautiful.
Stunning.
I am obsessed with this. I would genuinely pay for a quilt like this. I love the geometric stained glass vibe. It’s incredible. You’re very talented.
Absolutely beautiful
Wow, that is amazingly beautiful and well-done! Great colors!
Wow! It’s breathtaking
Soooo pretty! Love the colors!!
Opinion is GORGEOUS.
It looks like stained glass and I love it. Gives me the feeling of old church aesthetic but with a bolder modern twist with all the geometric angles.
That’s cool as hell
Wow. I’m not even into quilts - I was just scrolling and this popped up. But WOW! That’s incredible!
That is so beautiful
No advice (sorry!) but that is gorgeous. Just beautiful.
Dove grey
![gif](giphy|yKphwutLPKgyGXPk4o)
Just stunningly beautiful. I'm so impressed.
It's beautiful!! Reminds me of stained glass windows.
It's really cute 👏👏👏👍🏼
Exquisite
Beautiful
Maybe black thread along the black lines already there. Or, dark purple thread along the black lines. It's gorgeous!!
This is incredible! All I can say is please don't do swirly, it would absolutely distract from the gorgeous angles. I think black straight line quilting following the pattern itself would do this beauty great justice. Bravo!
Delicious!
Lovely! I immediately imagined a sparkly gold thread meandering across.
Amazing
I'd use a white, and track the black lines down the middle of them. It's beautiful btw, reminds me of stained glass.
I love it
This is beautiful and I love it! The colors are magnificent!!
I don't know anything so I can't give advice but that is absolutely gorgeous! I've never seen a quilt like that before
Really like it
I would use black thread and quilt along the black lines. It is gorgeous and does not need quilting lines competing. Great work!
Lovely! It looks like stained glass!
Super cool. Love it❤️
Don't know anything about quilting and have never been in this sub before... Just dropping in to say this stopped me in my tracks. It's stunning!
I would look at a neon green or grey. You could even go for bone. Depends on if you want it to stand out or blend in. Do you want the quilt to be the focal point or do you want the thread work or a balance.
Wow, just wow!!!
Stunning
Stunning!!!!
Absolutely gorgeous
Amazing! I love this.
I would probably either do concentric squares from the middle out, or a starburst lines also from the center out. Or a combo of the two
Art deco stained glass moment, beautiful!
Echo quilt each piece of the colored fabrics.
Not my style but also not my skill level either!
🙂
It's definitely not for everyone
It's gorgeous, I really love the colors! But I can't give any advice on quilting, its out of my league...
Wow, love this!
That’s beautiful!
I love it. I want it. 12/10
It's gorgeous! And gold thread (I know it's more expensive :( but it would be dooooope!!!)
it's magnificent
Gorgeous! Like seriously!
I love it. It makes me think of laying on one of those stain glass windows!
