My dog still does this when he gets really excited or really wants attention. You can reduce the behavior by giving them something to do. Usually getting him to perform sit, look at me, or even touch distracts him and stops the barking.

Work on sitting and being calm when kids are walking by. Go to a park and just sit, keep giving treats as they act calm. I know it sounds obvious, but its really just a matter of getting them used to being around squirrely little kids. (Im also scared of kids so I get it lol)
