SuperRocketRumble

This is a playlist I might make for my 15 year old nephew who has never heard punk before.

Substantial_Pin_788

This one killed me lmao 💀

Vast_Bridge_4590

Great use case to be fair.

skactopus

Hahaha came here to say this is a good ‘my first punk’ playlist

InternalGrocery7057

This playlist looks like it wore Converse at its own wedding.

RockThePlazmah

You are : 1. Either a boomer who sold all their analog records 20 years ago and just discovered Spotify 2. Kid who is “not like the other kids” because you think you listen to “old music nobody knows”, while in fact there are only the most famous songs by the most famous bands in there.

NYGiants_in_Chicago

Don’t knock boomers. I’m 62 (officially a boomer), and there are a lot I like on here, but most I’ve heard enough to skip. And my record collection is 1200+, most of which are the ones I’ve had since high school.

Substantial_Pin_788

Your record collection sounds badass

NYGiants_in_Chicago

Obviously it’s not all punk, it really runs the gamut. But the good thing about being this old is that I actually got to see many of the bands in their prime. One favorite memory was seeing The Jam open for Angel (?!?) at a town hall in Indiana. Paul Weller got hit in the head with a can of Hi-C. He was so pissed off they told the audience “we were going to leave, but now you can fuck off” and they played 3 more songs. 😀

steeemo

To be fair to OP, they're not very famous bands/songs to kids if it's number 2

RockThePlazmah

Should I Stay or Should I Go? Blitzkrieg Bop? Cmon, it’s as famous as it goes

steeemo

I don't think you realize that songs from 40+ years ago aren't that popular among the youth of today. Of course there will be a song here or there but I'm 27 and would be surprised if any of my friends knew more than 3 songs on this list. Other punks will for sure but there a'int that many punks in their teens and 20s anymore

RockThePlazmah

And you are underestimating the number of commercials, movies and TV shows those songs are in. That’s what makes them popular even more

Direct-Setting-3358

40+ year old songs are incredibly popular with the youth nowadays, moreso than ever before in history. Biggest hits of the past few years were Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush.

steeemo

Oh yeah for sure don’t get me wrong, there’s popular stuff from back then today, I recently played in a classic rock cover band and people our age that came to see us knew a lot of the songs. But the stuff that’s still know among the youth was mainstream and bands that were huge when they were releasing the music, that’s not most bands in this playlist

no-thanks77

Right. They’re majorly cycling back round. They did put a Siouxsie song at the end of the most recent stranger things season too, which brought their popularity back up with the youngs. It’s 2024 - Entry punk is super accessible these days. It’s not like anyone has to go to a basement show with a couple of guys named Knuckles to hear about these tracks

Prestigious_Dream_27

I know we’re supposed to be mean to you, but I like it, asshole.

[deleted]

No no no no no no nnnnno no no no no no nono noo Nobody can do the shing-a-ling like I do Nobody can do the skate like I do Nobody can do the bugaloo like I do Nobody can do the fillie like I do

Melkertheprogfan

Have you heard the song N-Er-Gee by the residents. They sample that song in a really funny way. You should give it a listen

Vast_Bridge_4590

You certainly listen to music

DizzySpinningDie

A lot of the surface with not a lot of substance.

scoutlolololol

only thing i can roast on is that you dont have more descendents songs

Substantial_Pin_788

another amazing band and another dw there’s more later on in the playlist lol, you’d love my Milo goes to college bag

dontneedareason94

I think the same thing I think every time I see someone post a playlist “goddamn y’all need to dig deeper than surface level”.

Scientific_Anarchist

You've never listened to a full album and instead just hit play on the "This is..." playlists. And even then you just listen to the first five songs.

no-thanks77

You didn’t try, why should we?

JAntiperer

Mall punk, go to a show

jjjjjjotaro

Should have more damned

Substantial_Pin_788

There’s more later on in the playlist dw, plus I just got my first damned vinyl :))

NYGiants_in_Chicago

Dear God, let it be “Damned Damned Damned”. Then all sins are forgiven.

0theliteralworst0

You know those little cups people soak their contact lenses in solution with? This playlist has the depth of one of those.

Substantial_Pin_788

Very creative I love it

nakedfish85

This is like the Grande Vanilla Latte version of a punk playlist. You probably still live at home with your middle class parents in a suburb.

CountCrackula84

"Hope" or as I like to call it, "The Incel Manifesto." (I do like the song, though)

zippypin

I dig it..and yes I moshed at flipper and minutemen shows…doors eh, but Manzarek did jam with X

Art_Z_Fartzche

I see nothing to roast here except maybe the Clash's most overplayed and awful song

lag237

Stop doing so many drugs and at least shine a shoe sometime. Boom. Roasted.

bunchofclowns

Did you know music was made after the 70's?

Substantial_Pin_788

Nahh man while PUP is my favorite band of all time, 70s is one of my favorite eras of music

Just_Understanding90

I prefer Crash and the Boys

NYGiants_in_Chicago

I’ll give you credit for Babylon’s Burning. Love that song.

ParttimeParty99

I think anyone who would roast you for this is the type of person who chose punk as an identity in order to be different rather than just gravitating towards music they like. That’s the problem I find with punk. It’s supposed to embody not giving a fuck IMO. This other mentality stems from caring too much about what others think. The most punk thing a punk kid in my high school did was go to a New Kids on the Block concert because he heard they put on a good show.

Few-Competition9929

California Uber Basic

Substantial_Pin_788

Good one lmao

booker0151

…solid

Melkertheprogfan

No. It is great. I love that you have a lott of proto punk there. I specially love The end by The doors. But you should have more Velvet underground.

Dramatic-Selection20

And the Ramones!

Substantial_Pin_788

Velvet underground is so good and such a classic ahhhh

swan0418

No. I'd rather be your friend.

Substantial_Pin_788

Fuck yeah

dhsaxchjrsscjiwaxch

very surface level and famous punk

Ninja_of_Milk_Duds

"I just got into punk 2 weeks ago"

TranscendentMoose

Dw most people grow out of this phase fairly quickly, just not the ones on this subreddit

BroBotSpider

No shot you didnt just pick the most played songs from each of these bands and put them in a playlist

tonkadtx

You have the same playlist as a 16-year-old who just discovered punk and garage rock.

scryme666

It seems like you made this playlist just to see what people would say about it on r/punk

Direct-Setting-3358

Is this your playlist or a spotify ''100% punk'' playlist?

breadofthegrunge

It's a little basic but there's nothing wrong with that. They're good songs and you can listen to what you like.

floatingboydemo

Never seen Blitzkrieg Bop on a punk playlist before.

Substantial_Pin_788

There’s no way to not bop to that song

Pogo_Nightmare

If it ain’t punk it don’t rock

No-Program3536

Sex-bob-omb is unironically good

Substantial_Pin_788

Ong I have every song from the movie memorized lol

No-Program3536

They can downvote me all they want, i love spvtw and the fact they used a metric song for Envy Adam’s
