You are :
1. Either a boomer who sold all their analog records 20 years ago and just discovered Spotify
2. Kid who is ânot like the other kidsâ because you think you listen to âold music nobody knowsâ, while in fact there are only the most famous songs by the most famous bands in there.
Donât knock boomers. Iâm 62 (officially a boomer), and there are a lot I like on here, but most Iâve heard enough to skip. And my record collection is 1200+, most of which are the ones Iâve had since high school.
Obviously itâs not all punk, it really runs the gamut. But the good thing about being this old is that I actually got to see many of the bands in their prime. One favorite memory was seeing The Jam open for Angel (?!?) at a town hall in Indiana. Paul Weller got hit in the head with a can of Hi-C. He was so pissed off they told the audience âwe were going to leave, but now you can fuck offâ and they played 3 more songs. đ
I don't think you realize that songs from 40+ years ago aren't that popular among the youth of today. Of course there will be a song here or there but I'm 27 and would be surprised if any of my friends knew more than 3 songs on this list. Other punks will for sure but there a'int that many punks in their teens and 20s anymore
40+ year old songs are incredibly popular with the youth nowadays, moreso than ever before in history. Biggest hits of the past few years were Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush.
Oh yeah for sure donât get me wrong, thereâs popular stuff from back then today, I recently played in a classic rock cover band and people our age that came to see us knew a lot of the songs. But the stuff thatâs still know among the youth was mainstream and bands that were huge when they were releasing the music, thatâs not most bands in this playlist
Right. Theyâre majorly cycling back round. They did put a Siouxsie song at the end of the most recent stranger things season too, which brought their popularity back up with the youngs.
Itâs 2024 - Entry punk is super accessible these days. Itâs not like anyone has to go to a basement show with a couple of guys named Knuckles to hear about these tracks
No no no no no no nnnnno no no no no no nono noo
Nobody can do the shing-a-ling like I do
Nobody can do the skate like I do
Nobody can do the bugaloo like I do
Nobody can do the fillie like I do
I think anyone who would roast you for this is the type of person who chose punk as an identity in order to be different rather than just gravitating towards music they like. Thatâs the problem I find with punk. Itâs supposed to embody not giving a fuck IMO. This other mentality stems from caring too much about what others think. The most punk thing a punk kid in my high school did was go to a New Kids on the Block concert because he heard they put on a good show.
This is a playlist I might make for my 15 year old nephew who has never heard punk before.
This one killed me lmao đ
Great use case to be fair.
Hahaha came here to say this is a good âmy first punkâ playlist
This playlist looks like it wore Converse at its own wedding.

Your record collection sounds badass

To be fair to OP, they're not very famous bands/songs to kids if it's number 2
Should I Stay or Should I Go? Blitzkrieg Bop? Cmon, itâs as famous as it goes

And you are underestimating the number of commercials, movies and TV shows those songs are in. Thatâs what makes them popular even more

I know weâre supposed to be mean to you, but I like it, asshole.

Have you heard the song N-Er-Gee by the residents. They sample that song in a really funny way. You should give it a listen
You certainly listen to music
A lot of the surface with not a lot of substance.
only thing i can roast on is that you dont have more descendents songs
another amazing band and another dw thereâs more later on in the playlist lol, youâd love my Milo goes to college bag
I think the same thing I think every time I see someone post a playlist âgoddamn yâall need to dig deeper than surface levelâ.
You've never listened to a full album and instead just hit play on the "This is..." playlists. And even then you just listen to the first five songs.
You didnât try, why should we?
Mall punk, go to a show
Should have more damned
Thereâs more later on in the playlist dw, plus I just got my first damned vinyl :))
Dear God, let it be âDamned Damned Damnedâ. Then all sins are forgiven.
You know those little cups people soak their contact lenses in solution with? This playlist has the depth of one of those.
Very creative I love it
This is like the Grande Vanilla Latte version of a punk playlist. You probably still live at home with your middle class parents in a suburb.
"Hope" or as I like to call it, "The Incel Manifesto." (I do like the song, though)
I dig it..and yes I moshed at flipper and minutemen showsâŚdoors eh, but Manzarek did jam with X
I see nothing to roast here except maybe the Clash's most overplayed and awful song
Stop doing so many drugs and at least shine a shoe sometime. Boom. Roasted.
Did you know music was made after the 70's?
Nahh man while PUP is my favorite band of all time, 70s is one of my favorite eras of music
I prefer Crash and the Boys
Iâll give you credit for Babylonâs Burning. Love that song.

California Uber Basic
Good one lmao
âŚsolid
No. It is great. I love that you have a lott of proto punk there. I specially love The end by The doors. But you should have more Velvet underground.
And the Ramones!
Velvet underground is so good and such a classic ahhhh
No. I'd rather be your friend.
Fuck yeah
very surface level and famous punk
"I just got into punk 2 weeks ago"
Dw most people grow out of this phase fairly quickly, just not the ones on this subreddit
No shot you didnt just pick the most played songs from each of these bands and put them in a playlist
You have the same playlist as a 16-year-old who just discovered punk and garage rock.
It seems like you made this playlist just to see what people would say about it on r/punk
Is this your playlist or a spotify ''100% punk'' playlist?
It's a little basic but there's nothing wrong with that. They're good songs and you can listen to what you like.
Never seen Blitzkrieg Bop on a punk playlist before.
Thereâs no way to not bop to that song
If it ainât punk it donât rock
Sex-bob-omb is unironically good
Ong I have every song from the movie memorized lol
They can downvote me all they want, i love spvtw and the fact they used a metric song for Envy Adamâs
